Quicktime 10 won't play the audio on my .3G2 files??

How can I alter the set up for Quicktime 10 so that it will play the audio for all of my .3G2 files?

Is there no way to update a codec or something on QT X? Kinda silly to have 2 different versions of the same program to play different video...
All of the standard audio components should already be installed. The question is whether or not they can be accessed under the 32-bit QT operating structure and which specific audio codec is having a problem.

I was wondering if there are some codecs available on the mac to allow the audio to play on .3g2 files on Quicktime X.
    Thanks.

I just had a problem playing the .3g2 video files i uploaded from a cell phone. The video would play, but without sound. I found a solution, but could not post it on the previous topic I found because the topic had been archived. I simply changed the file extension (at the end of the file name) from ".3g2" to ".avi" and the videos played correctly in quicktime with sound.

Both the AVI and the MOV file extensions refer to the file container and not the compressed data the file contains. Both are generic file containers in that each may contain any valid combination of audio and/or video data that is compatible with the codec component configuration of the system on which the file was created. On the other hand, whether a file is playback compatible, conversion compatible, and/or edit compatible depends on the data actually contained in the file container. So, you are basically dealing with two separate issues here—the container and what is inside it.
Basically, if you want to make your files ediit compatible with iMovie, you must change your file container to one that is acceptable to iMovie and convert the data to edit compatible audio and/or video compression formats as may be necessary. The best approach is to determine what codecs were actually used to create the original AVI files and add them to your system if possible. In most cases a codec package like Perian can be added to your system's codec component configuration to may the AVI file playable. Once they are playable, in the QT 7 app then they can be chnged or converted to file types and compression formats that can be edited in iMovie. (While Perian handles most codecs commonly used to create AVI files, it does not handle all possibilities and, while the Perian codec package still works under cureent Mac OS versions, its development group has decided to drop further development/support of the package.)
Background: AVI is a file container originally developed by Microsoft back in 1992 but for which official support was discontinued about 11 years. Despite its limitations, Windows users still tend to use this file based on its open source ease of use and generic nature, thus, making its use so popular that most users are unwilling to switch to more modern but less generic file types. Since some AVI legacy compression formats have never been transcoded for the Mac or use beyond OS 9 or OS X PPC platforms, it is often important to know what specific compression formats are contained in the AVI file to know which codecs to add to your system and which not to add in order to avoid possible codec conflicts.
You can use many different converters to convert AVI files to iMovie edit compatible files. Most third-party apps contain their own buit-in codecs which do not relay on the Mac codec component configuration. Free ones, like HandBrake, usually have limited conversion capabilities while those that have more varied outputs are usually commercial in nature and will cost you additional cash. QT 7 Pro or the free MPEG Streamclip app allow you to access you own system's component configuration and use any available codec component like DV, AIC, MPEG-4, H.264, Photo JPEG, etc.—all of which are iMovie compatible for editing purposes—but only after making the AVI file QT 7 player compatible.
In order to determine what compression formats wewre used in your AVI files you can
    1) Try checking the Finder "Info" window,
    2) Use the "Inspector", "Media Info", or "Properties" window of any player app that will open the file, or
    3) Use a general media utility app like "MediaInfo" to read the file characteristics.

  • Starting in the middle of an animation won't play the audio

I was creating a frame-by-frame animation in Flash Pro CC that went with an audio file I added to the project, however when I start from the middle, or anywhere besides the start, the audio won't play, but the animation will. I chatted with a customer support guy and he directed me here. Is there any way to fix this?
    I'm running Windows 8 64-bit.

if that's an html5 project, no.
otherwise, assign your sound's sync property (in the properties panel) to stream, not event.

  • Completed a slide show - won't play the audio

I have completed a slide show and added 3 songs.  The songs are showing up on the audio bar at the bottom, but when I do full-screen preview there is no audio.  My speakers are working fine, i'm able to play songs from other programs.  I am working in PS Elements 9 on Windows 7.
And another question, if i want to burn the slide show onto a DVD - what type should I buy?
    Thank you.

1 - I suggest that you post information about the format of the music files that you are using in this slide show. Also include whether these files have any album art (which has been known to create problems within the slideshow process).
And I wonder - did you import these music files to the Elements Organizer and if yes, can you play each of these music files from within the Organizer ?? If not, try importing one music file which will not play in the slideshow preview to the Organizer then attempt to play it within the Organizer. (why - sometimes playing a music file from within the Organizer is a good indication of whether the slide show editor can use this music file)
2 - You are asking about burning a slideshow to a DVD - I suspect that you want to burn your slideshow to a DVD that will play in your TV DVD player and Photoshop Elements does not supp[ort the function of creating this type of TV playable DVD.  Adobe Premiere Elements is a separate video software product which does support creating TV DVD player DVDs. However, I suggest that you read my next point before purchasing Adobe Premiere Elements - because there is a simpler process you can try now.
3 - your Windows 7 software license provides a program of Windows DVD Maker which can be used to create a TV playable video DVD format.
Using Windows DVD Maker with the PSE slide show editor is a 2 step process -
    - First, create a WMV file output (standard definition 640 x 480) from the PSE slideshow editor:
    - Second, use that .wmv file (which you saved on your computer hard drive) as input to the MS Windows DVD Maker software.
4- Both for troubleshooting and for future potential use with Windows DVD Maker, I suggest that within the PSE Slideshow Editor you do the Output command to create a .wmv file (640 x 480 standard definition), give it a name and save it on your hard drive. Then attempt to play that .wmv file using Windows Media Player.  Do you hear the music with playback from Windows Media Player ?

  • MOVs play fine, but Premiere won't play the audio

I have a bunch of MOV files (from a cheap digital camera) that will play fine on say VLC, and they import into Premiere CS5, but when I play them in Premiere, or put them into a Sequence, the video plays but the sound turns to a high pitched beep after 1 second. Every file does this, and all other files (including MOVs from different cameras) are working fine in the same sequence. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem, I'll tell you how I solved it.  Understand that I am a newbie at video editing and Premiere Pro.  I shot videos on a DSLR (.mov) and then transferred them to my computer.  I then imported them into Premiere CS6.  The videos played fine, and the sound bars indicated that audio was playing, but there was no sound.  The clips I imported played fine in Windows Media Player.  I did everything suggested on the forums, but to no avail.  Then I thought of something no one else had suggested, and it worked!
I ordered my Rain Stratus computer already set up with Premiere CS6 installed.  When I opened a new project, it by default chose Black Magic Design presets, since that is the video card I have.  Being a newbie, I just went with that.  But since the video I was importing was not captured by my Black Magic video card, it was the wrong choice.  It took awhile to figure out, but I finally realized I needed to choose Digital SLR as the sequence preset when I created a new project.  Then the audio worked!
One more thing I had to do, though, before it worked: in PremierePro, go to Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware.  I had to change the hardware from Black Magic Audio to Premiere Pro WDM Sound, click ASIO settings, choose my speakers, and then check the box marked "device 32-bit playback" (even thought I have a 64-bit computer.)
I hope that helps someone else from going through the same frustration.

  • On a MBP won't play the audio for a Vimeo video. It will play audio for other video sites (YouTube, etc.).

I have Adobe Flash enabled. Everything is up to date. Am I missing a plug in?

I get an HTML5 media player to play the file by default.<br />
If I disable this nedia player then I get a Flash player.
On Mac there is currently no support to play MP4 files via the built-in HTML5 media player, so this might interfere and prevent the Flash player from being used.

  • QuickTime won't play the format my camcorder records in.

    Camcorder:Sony DCR SR 68
it saves recordings as .mpg files
I thought the latest quicktime was able to read these files, but it seems not.
Using VLC player at the moment, but would like to be able to use native applications (not to mention iMovie)
I have searched for this addition software, but to no avail.

I took your advice, and attemped to use iMovie with the files, but it fails to do anything.
Files must be imported into iMovie directly from the camcorder for iMovie to call the proper "Import from Camera" conversions/capture routines. Files already on your hard drive will be copied/moved to iMovie using "Import" Finder-level routines which do not convert the content to an edit compatibile compression format. So, if the files are not already edit compatible with iMovie, the import option will abort and fail when it determines the content is not edit compatible.
I will try the Quicktime component with the MPEG Streamclip.
As already mentioned by John, use of the free MPEG Streamclip app requires the $19.99 QT MPEG-2 Playback component also be installed. The advantage of this work flow is that you have the option to convert "muxed" MPEG-2/AAC fils into any QT edit compatibile compression format combination. (I would normally prefer AIC video with Uncompressed audio here, but you could also use DV/DV, DV/AIFF, Photo-JPEG/AAC, or other equally compatible combination of AV codecs.) Another free third-party option for converting "muxed" MPEG-2/AC3 content would be the free HandBrake app. The disadvantage here is that, like Lion's QT X Player, you are limited with regard to your output options—primarily H.264 video with AAC. Also be advised that QT 7 Pro, even with the QT MPEG-2 Playback component installed, will not handle AC3 audio natively.

  • You tube video's are suddenly downloading as Quicktime movies instead of FLV's. Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it? Quicktime won't play the files. I use safari and snow leopard and all updates are installed. JulieS

Is anyone else having this problem and how to fix it?

There are no preferences for Quicktime 10, only for QT 7.
Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)
For anything like Flash videos you should use QT 7.

  • IDVD won't play the audio right for the movie

    Hi.
I'm having a problem with iDVD 6. I made a movie I want to burn on DVD. The sound is fine on iMovie, but when I previewed it on iDVD 6 it was messed up. Does anyone know what to do?
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I'm having the same problem and "glad" to see this is not an isolated problem. An iPhoto slideshow sent to iDVD with the same music works fine but not if I turn the iPhoto slideshow into an iMovie (I wanted a variety of transitions, titles, etc. that iMovie permits) and then transfer it to iDVD. The sound appears to be playing at a slow speed.
However, I discovered that if I first transfer the iMovie file to Garageband in iLife6 and then transfer it to iDVD from Garageband that the sound track is working again. It takes a lot of time to do these transfers so if anyone has discovered why some of us have a problem in transferring from iMovie5 or iMovie6 to iDVD5 or iDVD6 I would appreciate an answer. I had hoped iLife6 would solve my problem but it hasn't.

  • Recently updated iTunes to 11.1.1.11 and now my Disney movies won't play - the audio keeps dropping out. Any help?

Never mind ... cleaned the cache, cleaned the disk, cleaned the Java cache - it works.

I've tried going through those steps prior to posting. This link that others and you have provided takes me to these instructions. There are no specific steps to uninstall and reinstall itunes. I did so anyway a couple times to see if anything changed. It did not. If I'm missing something, please let me know--it's really appreciated. I'm not using windows and it is my understanding that when you delete itunes (which I did through terminal) it deletes everything, so you don't have to go searching for random files as you would with Windows.
Note: This article is for Mac OS X users. If you're using a Windows PC, please refer to these troubleshooting suggestions.
Follow these steps to resolve your issue:
Ensure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Install software updates on your Mac.
Note: If an iTunes update is available, apply the update.http://apple.com/itunes/download
Check USB connections. iOS devices require USB 2.0 to function properly. If you're not sure your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, refer to the computer's specifications.
Disconnect other USB devices and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
    Restart your Mac.
Looks like I'll be making that phone call...
