Quicktime 3gp conversion?

i require software to convert .3gp files to .Avi in order to post them on my website. Can anyone tell me if Quicktime 7 (the version you pay for) will do this and will they be able to be viewed using windows media player? Is Quicktime the best solution for me? i am using a viao laptop and windows xp

OK, again, if it's a stream (the PLS file is just a
playlist file; it's not the stream itself), you'd
need to be able to capture it in it's entirety before
you could save and convert it. QuickTime cannot
capture a stream (of any type), so you'll have to
look for Windows software that can capture an audio
stream. MP3 streams are fairly easy; streams in other
formats are more difficult and may require an
external recorder connected to the audio output of
your computer to capture.
Hey Dave, I am kinda of confused...
What I am trying to do is be able to access a Live Streaming station on my cell phone.. It was my understanding that it had to be in a special format for the cell phone. I am not sure what that format is... But I do know that recorded content is in the 3GPP format. (is there another format for Live Steams?) For example for Real Player there is .ram for Mp3s there is M3U.... I was looking for the format for 3GPP files... Can you help me?

  • Error Occured in exporting to Quicktime with Conversion

hello... I am gettin a general error on final cut pro and im needing just a little help... When i export to Quicktime with Conversion on the streaming medium setting... i get an Error Occured Message...
This error has never occured before on any of my other video's but with this one... i did add some music to the background and it is a bit longer video... almost 10 mins... What do you think i need to do to export this to quicktime with conversion on the streaming medium setting?
    Thanks again,

First, try exporting as a selfcontained quicktime with sequence settings and try using compressor for the conversion.
It's unlikely the audio being longer than the video is causing the problem, but try adding a big of slug to the end of the video track so the material on the video track extends to at least the end of the audio.

  • Selecting Quicktime Export Conversion from the Export menu kills FCE.

This used to work for me. Since upgrading to SL I've been experiencing the problem of FCE just quitting without an error on the screen when I select the export with quicktime conversion option. I've looked around and I was unable to locate anything that appears to be a solution. I thought I'd add that I found the following error message in the Console Log.
11/15/09 5:01:09 PM [0x0-0xe20e2].com.apple.FinalCutExpress[2441] objc[2441]: Class ProMetadataQTMDStorage is implemented in both /Applications/Final Cut Express.app/Contents/MacOS/../Frameworks/MIO.framework/Versions/A/MIO and /Applications/Final Cut Express.app/Contents/MacOS/Plugins/QTM Reader.bundle/Contents/MacOS/QTM Reader. One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined.
    Any thoughts?

Ian and Tom, thank you for your ideas. I'm reluctant to do a wipe and re-install as you can imagine. I use my computer for more than just the occasional FCE project and it would involve a lot of work. I just tried the removal of the preferences and FCE is still not working with the quicktime conversion yet. Export to Quicktime without conversion works fine. Hmmm... I have reinstalled FCE and updated to 4.0.1 but that didn't change anything. Perhaps I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling Quicktime 7 and see if that changes anything - though the error message seems to indicate some confusion in FCE and not quicktime.

  • Problems operating Quicktime MPEG2 conversion

    Hi there,
I have copied my friend's sd card with his movie files which are .MOD and .MOI files which I understand are mpeg2 format. I have therefore downloaded the program "Quicktime MPEG2 conversion for OSX" but cannot see how to use it. I thought that it may have acted as a patch or upgrade with Quicktime but this is not immediately evident.
    Would dearly love some help.
    Justin

Mpeg 2 is the standard DVD delivery format, not intended for further editing.
You need to convert the mpeg2 files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.

  • Quality loss when exporting to quicktime (no conversion)

i'm trying to export a fully rendered project in final cut pro (6.0.2).
i'm using the option i always used:
"export -> quicktime movie..." (not "using quicktime conversion")
the idea was to convert the movie later to h.264 (using the quicktime pro player).
normally this always gave me a quicktime movie with ± the same quality as when played directly in final cut.
no difference whether exporting as self-contained movie or referenced movie (besides the result file size of course).
only, now it's different, see here (quicktime player left, final cut right):
the text (done using LiveType) is displayed in completely unusable quality. (difference in color etc. doesn't bother me right now)
where does that come from? in final cut i don't see this rendered quality anywhere...
    i also tried:
deleting the render cache, rendering the project again, no difference
export -> quicktime movie, "self-contained" or referenced movie, no difference in quality.
i didn't have this problem with the same project some months ago. back then i probably wasn't running 10.4.11 and quicktime 7.4.1.
    any idea what to try?

    There is no quality lost.
The default of QuickTime player when showing DV is to display 1 field and double height the image. This is to avoid interlace combing on the non-interlaced computer display.
IF you type cmd-j and bring up the info for your clip, thusly:
In the lower right corner you'll notice the High Quality flag:
Setting it will take you from this:
    to this:
Alternatively, you can go into the QuickTime Player preferences and set the default there:
    Make sense?

  • Quicktime Video Conversion

    Hi Guys:
I have an AVI file. I can play that in Quicktime for Mac however when i insert that in iMovie, the sound is not matching with the video. There is a delay in the sound compared to the video. When i convert the AVI file to a DV, it is the same problem i.e. the sound doesn't match up with the video.
The file info. from quicktime is as follows:
Format: DiVx 6.0, 640X288, unknown MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 48.000 Khz
    FPS: 23.98
Does anyone know what the problem is? I am trying to burn this AVI into a DVD through iMovie.
    Please advise.
    Thanks

I can play that in Quicktime for Mac however when i insert that in iMovie, the sound is not matching with the video. At a guess, might assume the source file contains VBR MP3 and iMovie is converting as if it were CBR. If, as you say, the file plays correctly in the QT Player, would simply recommend converting the file to DV using a third-party MPEG based application like MPEG Streamclip (free) rather than letting iMovie perform the conversion as part of the import process.

  • Quicktime MOV conversion to FLV results in greyout video

    Hi,
I use FCP 7.0.1 on Snow Leopard and my end videos I export as Quicktime videos. Then I convert this MOV to FLV using Adobe Media Encoder CS4.
I didn't have any problems till yesterday when I did the adobe update, and my Media Encoder was also updated to the newest version...now my FLVs are all greyed out. Looks like washed out video. There is no white.
I didn't find the appropriate forum for Adobe Media Encoder CS4 so I posted this up here!
Please help! Any advice on what could be wrong?
    Thanx in advance!
    Imre

Are you sending your sequence to Compressor?  Using any of the H.264 settings in Compressor, ie. youtube sharing, web download 7 folder will convert to .flv.   Once you output the .mov file, rename or just add the .flv extension.  Hint: make sure that in your encoding tab you have "fast start" selected.
The renamed file works beautifully in my html editor (Dreamweaver CS4) and plays in my Adobe Media player.  The only problem I am having is with my PC clients.  We can not figure out why they can not play downloaded .flv files on their window based PC's.  I have files encoded in both Compressor and Adobe Media Encoder.  We did figure out today that the files renamed from Compressor (.mov) to .flv do play in the QT®player.

  • Quicktime Video Conversion Not Preserving Multiple Audio Tracks

    Hi All,
I'm trying to convert a H.264 video file to a ProRes MOV using quicktime pro 7.
This is a video file that was created using Handbrake.
In Handbrake I am able to rip several audio tracks from a VOB. In this case I need to rip both the 5.1 audio and 2.0 audio. Instead of splitting this up into separate exports, I can attach both audio tracks to the H.264 mov. I can view and edit them in the Properties window of the video in quicktime.
So what I'm starting with is a video file with two Audio tracks:
    5.1 Surround: C,L,R,Ls,Rs,LFE + 2.0 Stereo: L, R
What I'd like to do is unite the two audio files to create an 8.0 track: L,R,C,LFE,Ls,Rs,Lt,Rt
By changing the naming of the stereo track from L,R to Lt,Rt in the properties windown, an option appears in the audio export settings to use the SMPTE DTV audio output (L,R,C,LFE,Ls,Rs,Lt,Rt). But when I use it, assuming it will recognize my naming structure and rearrange the tracks according, the export results in a stereo file.
What am I doing wrong?? All logic makes me assume that this should work...
I should note that when I open the H.264 in quicktime the 5.1 audio track is not enables (or clicked on) in the properties tab. I must turn it on for quicktime to recognize it in the inspector window. However, when I try to save the video it requires me to save my file in an MOV container.
When I try to simply export the file as a 8 discrete channels, it will export with 8 channels, but the first two are a stereo pair and the other 6 are silent tracks.
The only way I've found to keep these audio tracks together is to extract each audio unit separately (5.1 and 2.0) and then add one of the audio tracks to the other using the copy and "Add to Movie" feature. This is not my preferred workflow since I'd like to keep the audio and video together. I'm creating a workflow that will be repeated several times so the more I can streamline this process the better.
Please help. Any ideas would be great.

I don't think Quicktime Pro is able to export individual audio tracks.  It sounds like Handbrake create an AC3 sound track and a 2.0 channel stereo track.  I don't think iMovie will handle multi-track audio and Final Cut Pro X won't let you assign audio channels to individual outputs.
If you have the original VOB file, DVDxDV Pro will break it out to individual audio channels into separate AIFF audio files which you can then import into Final Cut Pro 7 and remix the audio that way.

  • Mp4 - 3gp conversion error

I have an mp4 video (MPEG-4 ODSM 176x144) I want to export to 3gp with the video set to pass through as I don’t need to re-encode the video track just the audio from AAC to AMR-NB, but it fails every time with "Error -108: an unknown error occurred"
The same happens on other mp4 videos too, any ideas?
    Thanks

OK i sorted it, i reverted back to version 6.5.2 and all is working as it should again

  • How to go from VOBs into QuickTime Pro to Apple TV ?

How can I get a bunch of VOB files from a DVD so that I can use QuickTime Pro to convert to Apple TV ?
I have played for weeks with QuickTime Pro, MediaFork, HandBrake, MPEG StreamClip, VisualHub, iSquint, ffmpegX, Mac the Ripper, and more, and compared outputs. I have tried all kinds of bit rates, 1 and 2 pass, etc. In the end, I personally like the QuickTime Pro conversions best, and I find that I have had very few problems with QuickTime Pro.
I want to use QuickTime Pro to convert a few of my DVD for Apple TV. With Quicktime Pro I can read a single VOB file and convert it but I don't get sound or all the VOB files that I need. How can I quickly, without a lengthy conversion, pull all the VOB files from a DVD so that I can convert them to Apple TV with QuickTime Pro ?

    1) Pull the information off the DVD with NO video/audio conversion. This is not possible -- at least not possible to do without at least converting the AC3 Audio first. And, then it will only be possible if you have the QT MPEG-2 component installed. You appear to be operating under the misguided assumption that QT Pro -- a temporally synchronized, "frame-ro-frame" player/converter asset -- will work on a spatially synchronized file containing a single data stream of video data blocks interspersed with blocks of audio data. It won't. There are basically only two approaches here. Both require the use of an intermediate file format. (I.e., a conversion is required.):
    1) The first approach is to use an application like MPEG Streamclip to convert your VOBs (both audio and video) to a less compressed format and/or editable format like "animation/PCM" or the "DV" format. However, since DV is an exacting specification which may change the frame rate and/or physical dimensions of your movies, I'd recommend "animation/PCM" here. This approach allows audio and video to be converted by QT Pro during a single conversion which usually eliminates the likelihood of audio and video going "out of sync."
    2) The other approach requires you to use a third-party application (like MPEG Streamclip) to demux your VOBs to associated elementary MPEG-2 (M2V) and PCM (AIFF) files which QT Pro can handle either individually (may allow de-synchronization) or as a "resourced" pair (best approach) of files. In this case the M2V file contains the original, unconverted MPEG-2 data and the AIFF contains a stereo "mix-down" of the AC3 audio.
Recommend you try the second option here. Once the paired files are created, (without moving them) open the M2V in QT Pro by double-clicking it. This should open M2V which, in turn, references the AIFF file as a resource. (Not moving the files is to ensure the the resource path does not become broken.) In any case, you can now process the opened file(s) in QT Pro using the "Movie to TV" export option. Be advised that neither MPEG Streamclip nor QT Pro allow "easy" cropping of the video using this workflow. In addition, if you plan to customize the dimensions of a 16:9 "widescreen" 640 x 360 file to 720 x 405 or 854 x 480 for encoding, the dimensions must be changed in before selecting the export option.

  • Quicktime Exporting Black Movie

When trying to export, the movie file turns out black, with both export options (Quicktime & QT Conversion).
When I click on QT Conversion, the viewer goes blank, and the render bar appears. The video is completely rendered.
    Anybody know whats going on?

Can anyone spot the error in what I'm doing? It's got to be something simple. I've created a time-lapse using these steps (I think) before, so I don't think there's a bug in the program anywhere. Any help appreciated.
Not exactly an error, but I do have a question. If you are sourcing JPEG images to an image sequence file which creates a QT Photo JPEG compression file which is already import/edit compatible with iMovie and currently plays in the QT 7 Player correctly without a "black screen" problem, why are you exporting the data to the AIC compression format instead of simply saving the Photo JPEG sequence file and importing it directly to iMovie?

  • Do I have a Bug or a Virus?

I know Mac's are essentially virus free, but my Mac is beginning to act like a PC. Here are some of the problems or symptoms I've experienced:
    1. One of the most prominent symptoms was a thin, black border that appeared on many applications. It always surrounded one of the folder icons on my desktop. If I was asked to type in a password, the space where you type in the password would be surrounded with the black border. If I opened Disk Utility, the panel on the left that lists my drives was surrounded by a black border.
Curiously, that issue has apparently disappeared.
    2. On a couple occasions when I clicked the Apple icon to restart my computer, instead of seeing the choices Restart, Shut Down and Log Out MyName, it said Restart, Restart, Shut Down, Shut Down, Log Out MyName, Log Out MyName.
    3. The last time I tried to restart my computer, I got a message that it couldn't restart until I closed DataSettings, or something like that. I clicked Restart again, and it worked the second time.
    4. When I repair my disk permissions, I always get three "ACL" errors. I haven't researched this issue thoroughly, but I understand it's controversial and may not really be a problem. I've been told that the Leopard update 10.5.2 should fix it. However, I first noticed the problem AFTER I installed that update.
    5. I opened Photoshop, created an image and saved it to the desktop, only to discover SEVERAL copies of the image, one with the name I assigned, the others named Picture1, Picture2, or something like that.
    6. My external keyboard stopped working. At first, it stopped intermittently, making me think I was simply suffering from sticky key syndrome. But it got progressively worse until it simply ceased functioning, though the keyboard built into my laptop continued to work. When I restarted my computer, my external keyboard worked fine.
The first four problems I listed are essentially annoyances which have caused no problems that I'm aware of. The other two are serious problems.
My longest running problem relates to closing programs. Many programs won't close, unless I right-click on their icon in the dock and choose Quit or Force Quit. I would classify this as another annoyance; it can be a pain in the butt when I want to restart my computer but first have to right-click on several icons to make sure everything is closed.
In fact, I may have already found the culprit. I heard about a cool browser plugin in from http://www.piclens.com/ and installed it on both Safari and Firefox. It was a complete disaster. It doesn't work in either one, after which Firefox crashes and Safari freezes EVERYTHING; I can't continue until I press Command-Option-Esc and quit Safari.
I think the thin black borders appeared about the time I installed this extension. I think the second problem I listed - the thin black border - appeared about the time I installed this plugin. Many of the other problems I listed also popped up just recently, though the ACL permissions errors have been with me a little longer.
But is it possible for a browser plugin to cause such a diversity of problems? I contacted PicLens.com for technical support. I want to try and fix it before I uninstall it. In fact, I'm a little nervous about uninstalling programs, lest I do it wrong and make things worse.
Anyway, can anyone shed any light on my situation?
    Thanks.

  • From Final Cut Express to iDVD--need some help

I've read through the past threads on this topic and I still can't seem to figure out what's going on.
I'm using the latest FCE and iDVD6. Here's what's going on:
Put in chapter markers like I should in FCE.
Export to Quicktime (not conversion) with all proper options selected.
Video becomes a .dv file (is that Quicktime?) that opens in QT but no chapter markers show up.
Then, I open iDVD and drag the file in, but here's the rub--WHERE DOES IT GO? If I select a theme and drop it in (not in drop zones) it's just a video floating around in the theme main page. No chapters show up in the submenus.
Am I supposed to drop it into a particular place in iDVD? Or do I import it, or go to "Media" and then "Movies" and select it from there? I need to know how to make my chapters show up and how to get the movie where it's supposed to g (like if I was importing from iMovie).
I know this is long, but please help!
    Thanks.

Generally, I just drag the DV file from the finder to the iDVD menu window. Make sure you don't drag it to any Drop Zones, I think that might be your problem with the DV file showing up as the background. If you have default settings in iDVD, this drag and drop should then create submenus based on your chapter markers.
I'm not sure if you have any issues with the Chapters not showing up in QT. If you're expecting them to show up, then make sure that when you do the Export to QT that the option to include Chapter Markers is set. Upon conversion, you should see the Chapters within QT as well as when imported into iDVD.
    Hope this helps!

  • 16:9 DV sequence in iDVD shows up as 4:3 - Apple's workaround =Quality loss

    Hey guys,
Capturing and editing anamaphoric 16:9 from a DV Camera in Final Cut Express, then exporting using Quicktime (not conversion) gives a file that iDVD does not see as 16:9 but squeezes it to 4:3. After esearching this quite extensivly, Apple's workaround is to do the following:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1611
Which works fantastic but my simple question is... because I now have to use Quicktime conversion (as stated in the link above) does my quality of the video suffer at all?
    Any help greatly appreciated,
    Jazzy

To be honest I didn't try it yet, but at a first look the procedure described in your link doesn't seem to degrade the movie quality. In fact, even if you use QuickTime Conversion, that procedure simply uses the same codec as FCE (DV/DVCPRO-NTSC or DV-PAL); the Aspect Ratio and Dimensions parameters should only affect the "presentation" of the movie, not its intrinsic resolution, which should remain untouched (720x480 or 720x576). Then its effect should be the same as changing the Scaled Size in the Visual Settings of the property window in QT Player (but only if you have QT Pro), which does not touch the video encoding but only the way it is displayed.
But other posters might know more about this...

  • How to Choose File format of Exported Clip

I needed a clip from my movie for use in Live Type so I created Sub Clip from a longer duration clip and then exported it as QT movie. Or I thought I was doing that but the only choice of format I was given was .dv. How do you choose .mov or other format from the Export to QT menu choice?

    Hi(Bonjour)
Set in and out points in timeline (after your subclip was placed in it).
Choose export to quicktime with conversion. Select mov, and under video, select animation codec.
