QuickTime 7.0.2 crashes Mac and creates enormous file

Computer: Dual 2G Power Mac, OSX 10.3.9
Initial set up: xyz.mov created with Olympus C8080 (~15 Meg file). Plays just fine with quick player.
Edit the .mov and save it on top of the original file as self contained movie -> Quicktime freezes with beach ball rolling for ever. Any application (Finder, Terminal, ...) that tries to access the directory or sometimes even the volume where the .mov is will freeze as well. "Force Quit" clears the QuickTime window, but QT appears back on the running application list time after time. Computer will not shut down or restart from the menu commad. Only way to restart is to use the power button.
After reboot everything seems to be about normal, except that 128 Gb!!! has disappeared from the disk, where the save was attempted. Turns out that the 15Meg file has grown to whopping 128 GB. I believe it would have grown even biger, if the hard disk size had not limited it.
I saw one post from the past, with similar experience, but no good explanations for the behavior was proposed. Problem seems to be fully reproduceable. Any suggestions?

Exporting seems to work with various codec options, so I will be able to continue with my project. Data rate in the original file is rather high, but still within reason, given that video is 640x480. In any case, it should not cause the described behavior.
I think there is a serious bug in the QuickTime "Save As" functionality. QT was the first program in my Mac that has forced me to reboot by cutting the power to the computer.

    MY wife has an Iphone 4  and I have a 5. To date we have used one apple account to manage music purchases/library. I updated ny phone to the new OS version and all her texting is showing up on my phone.  I understand if i create an apple account for her I will not see her texts. Recently we bought a Mac and created a new apple account for her. How do I synched her phone with new apple account and get access to the music library under my account on the new MAC laptop  before I update her phone to the new OS?
    Going forward if I purchase music under my apple id and want her to have it on her device, how can I acheive that?

    You can continue to share an Apple ID for purchases.
    Sign her in to her new account here:
    Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (Keep on Phone if you want to transfer contacts, calendars, etc...) then sign in with her new ID
    Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Apple ID > Sign out then in with new
    Settings > FaceTime > Apple ID > Sign out then in with new
    Use the same Apple ID here:
    Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Apple ID

  • I just got my mac, and created a apple id. but when i tried to download iphoto, it said it was already used by a nother id! what should i do

    i just got my mac, and created a apple id, but when i tried to accept iphoto from the app store, it said: these app cannot be accepted by your apple id. it was already asigned to another id's purchases list. if you don't have accsess to that apple ID and want to receive future updates you will need to purchase.
    but i shoulndt have to buy iphoto, should i? what should i do????

    Content and Apple IDs -
    Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple Id to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with another Apple ID with a new ID.

    Hello myself,
    nobody has answered my question, so now I answer myself!!
    The wrong part is to read the file with "open dataset" and to create the inputstream with
    p_istream = p_streamfactory->create_istream_itable(
    table = g_xml_table
    size = g_xml_size ).
    Better ist to create the inputstream with
    p_istream = p_streamfactory->create_istream_uri(
    .......................PUBLIC_ID = ''
    .......................SYSTEM_ID = '
    applserver\I$\TEMP\Datei.XML' ).
    In this way no space is needed for the file.
    Best regards,
    Thomas

  • Search multiple folders for files with same name and create single file

     I have a project where I need to search multiple folders for a file name and when found append data from each file to a single input file.
     Example
    root folder to start search
    \\servera\sales
    \\servera\it\salesa\cmmstr.txt
    \\servera\it\salesb\cmmstr.txt
    \\servera\it\salesc\cmmstr.txt
     I need to create a a single cmmstr.txt on the root folder. I would like it to be able to run this with parms to pass in folders to search and file names to search and single file name to create. I'm going to have a least 10 differnt files to
    search for and create output file for. The folders to search
    will somewhat be static.
     Thanks.

    I tested this out on my own seat and I think it should work for you. I wrote it as a function, all you have to do is pass the root folders you want to search and the file your looking for. The function will then search that directory and all sub directories
    for that file name. you will also have to provide it a file to append to, if the file dosen't exists the function will create it. If you run into an issues let me know and the links Mike
    Laughlin posted are a great resource.
    Function Search-Files{
    Param([String[]]$Locations, $SearchFor, $AppendTo)
    Begin
    If(-Not (Test-Path $AppendTo)){New-Item $AppendTo -ItemType File -Force}
    Process
    ForEach($Location in $Locations)
    $Files = Get-ChildItem -Path $Location -Filter $SearchFor -Recurse
    ForEach($File in $Files)
    Get-Content -Path $FIles.FullName | Out-File $AppendTo -Append
    End{}
    Search-Files -Locations "\\Server1\c$\Temp", "\\Server1\c$\Test1" -SearchFor "Install.cmd" -AppendTo "C:\Temp\Search.log"

  • How do I clean up your mac and remove unwanted files?

    Can someone instruct me how to clean my mac and remove unwanted files that slow the mac down?

    this forum is about running Windows on a Mac.
    Hence, use Disk Cleanup
    CCleaner works fine for both Mac and Windows - strongly recommend it for Windows
    Uninstall background processes, less is more and you don't need most and definitely not two that are trying to monitor system and disk drives. If you need one setup a system just for weekend maintenance and emergency.
    Allow more than adequate free space.

  • QuickTime 7.1.6 - Crashing Finder and Crashing QuickTime Player

    Hello all. I'm adding a new twist to the problems with QT 7.1.6. Here's the situation:
    1. When browsing in Finder using column view, highlighting a QuickTime movie file causes the Finder to crash and restart without giving an error message. It appears this happens while it is trying to generate the QT preview. This also happens if I browse in icon or list mode - so I can select the file - and get info on the file. Finder will crash while the preview is being generated in the info window.
    2. I have a number of QuickTime files that I encoded for iPod using VisualHub 1.23. If I open these files in QuickTime Player, the application quits running without giving an error message. Similarly, if I try to play these files in iTunes, iTunes quits running without giving an error message.
    Videos downloaded from the iTunes store will play fine in QuickTime Player and iTunes, but they also cause the Finder to crash when i highlight the file or get info on the file. All files played and were 'previewable' under QT 7.1.5.
    I've tried reinstalling QuickTime 7.1.6 and the Security update and the behavior persists.
    Can anyone suggest options for debugging what's happening? Or point me to a how-to for reverting to QT 7.1.5?
    Thanks.

    Your system info confirms you are still using OS 10.4. Check QuickTime 7 System Requirements website to make sure you meet all the requirements.

  • Lightroom 5.6 cc for Mac and Canon 6D file corruption when adding to catalog

    Hello,
    I was testing my newly purchased (August 5, 2014) Canon 6D camera shooting out the window of a moving car and also by walking around. I was using the Scene Intelligence Auto setting, shooting in single shot mode and continuous shooting mode. I used the kit lens Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 for the 6D. I've been using LR 5.6 CC to download the CR2 files into a catalog. Before downloading I check the images on the 6D camera's preview feature and all the images look accurate - full color and image. However, when using LR, as I'm downloading the CR2s or converting them into DNGs for my LR catalog, I notice on the thumbnail strip changes some of the images that are being imported into thumbs showing color shifts and/or blank white areas. After LR has processed the images as CR2s and/or DNG the processed are now look like these corrupted thumbs. Many images came out with sections of each image showing a rectangular area of negative imagery (i.g. the sky was rendering purple, the trees orange, etc. Also two of the images blank white expect for the a quadrant of distorted color and negative imaging.
    When I try the Canon download software, the images are accurate so I know camera's memory card and probably the camera are not at fault. Any suggestions as to why I may be encountering this problem and how to resolve it?
    I use a 2012 Mac Book Pro and have my LR catalog on a external hard drive.
    Thank you.

    Based only on  what you described seeing after  the previews were built and having not seen an example, it sounds like a corruption of the actual file. I have experienced this myself and have usually found a bad connection/cable between the card reader and the Mac or a glitchy card reader. Over the weekend I had issues trying to import images because the USB cable I grabbed was for my Garmin GPS and the my Mac didn't even recognize the reader was attached until I swapped cables. It is not a perfect system. When it is working, life is great but when it is not...
    The suggestion to copy your photos to your HDD first (@99jon) is what I would also suggest. This has worked best for me and has caused fewer problems than importing directly from the card. I have turned off the option to automatically start LR when a card is attached so I can manage the offload myself. I never import directly from the camera either since that just adds another layer of complexity which brings it's own compatibility issues. Finally, never, ever let Lightroom or the Mac OS delete your files from your card after import. When you are ready to erase the images from the card, put it back into your camera and use the camera's format utility (it's in your camera's menu but I am not a Canon shooter so I can't tell you where to find it). The memory cards are very cool technology but, since the makers have no idea how they will be used or by what, they are not always reliable. People have reported memory card issues when they delete images from the card in the camera. Best to offload them with a copy (not a move since that implies an OS delete) and then reformat the card in-camera.
    One last thing. The in-camera previews are actually JPEGS produced by software in your camera. The default is to make a high contrast and saturated version off what was recorded by the sensor. The RAW image is the data that is taken right from the sensor with almost no modification. The RAW image however is going to utilize the camera's full bit depth and will have a much greater dynamic range than the converted 8-bit JPEG that you see in the display. Also, those little blinkie displays in camera also apply to the JPEG image and not the actual RAW file which can often hold detail the JPEG can't. The point is, my RAW previews always looked washed out and over exposed immediately after import into Lightroom but as long as my exposure is not pushed up against the right side of the histogram, I know the image has as much workable data as I could get. As long as the highlight data is not clipped, don't worry about your previews not looking as good as your in-camera JPEGs. There are development presets to create the same look after import (Develop module/Camera Calibration panel/Profile drop down). There you will see profiles such as Adobe Standard as well as a set of Camera profiles (Faithful, Landscape, Portrait, etc.). Select one of the Camera xxx profiles if you want an in-camera JPEG look. Not perfect, but a really good starting point.

  • Get input from user and create a file and run a script in command line.

    Hi all,
    i'm trying to get a input from user and write it into a file named alpe.jacl
    To get multiple userinputs like address and jobtitle etc etc in the same single window.
    and the code will save the inputs in alpe.jacl one by one in a new line like
    nameis name
    address russia
    jobtitle dev
    So i coded like below.
    Though GUI for user input looks dull Its working fine.
    Now I want this code to perform one more task which is the GUI will contain one more button INSTALL with OK and CALCEL .
    and when after putting all inputs and creating the alpe.jacl file if someone clicks INSTALL it should start ./install.sh script present at the same folder which contains some unix shell commands.
    Here am not able to figure out how to go further...
    One more thing after all the inputs given when I am clicking on the OK button its closing the window instantly which i dont want. I want it like it should wait till someone press CANCEL to exit.
    Please some one help me.
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.io.*;
    public class file
    public static void main(String []args)throws IOException
    FileWriter ryt=new FileWriter("alpe.jacl");
    BufferedWriter out=new BufferedWriter(ryt);
    JTextField wsName = new JTextField();
    JTextField sName = new JTextField();
    JTextField cName = new JTextField();
    Object[] message = {    "Web Server Name:", wsName,"Server Name:", sName,"Cluster Name:", cName};
    int answer = JOptionPane.showConfirmDialog(    null, message, "Enter values", JOptionPane.OK_CANCEL_OPTION);
    if (answer == JOptionPane.OK_OPTION){    String webserver = wsName.getText();
    String server = sName.getText();
    String cluster = cName.getText();
    out.write("set webservername " +wsName.getText()+"\n");
    out.write("set ClusterName " +cName.getText()+"\n");
    out.write("set ServerName " +sName.getText()+"\n");
    out.close();
    }}Thanks,
    Ricky

    Thanks a lot.
    Is there any way through which i can assign a scroll bar to my panel.
    As when the number of user inputs grows the GUI becomes more bulky and some of the fields are not showing up.
    Cheers

  • Image Capture downloads pictures and creates .aae file

    Using Image Capture 6.6 to download pictures from my iPhone 5S to Macbook Air w/ OSX Yosemite.
    When I go to the folder where I download the files on my computer, it shows a .JPG file and an .AAE file.
    I cannot find preferences for Image Capture to turn the additional download off.
    It is doubling file size storage on my computer as each picture has a .JPG @ 600KB and an .AAE @ 600K
    I have bulk deleted the .AAE files using Spotlight and searching the file type, but do not wish to continue doing this if there is way to turn this off.

Using a properties file works for other parameters (jdbc data source, logging, file name for the image), but kind of drawing a >blank on the data source for the camera.This is why I'm reluctant to upgrade software (imaginee frowney emoticon here; for those who still doubt wait until the next OTN site upgrade for another example). Stuff sometimes doesn't work any more when you do (imagine another frowny emoticon)
    Until a better idea comes along use a card-reader to put the files into a folder, then load them into Apex as a second step. This is not as conveneint as loading directly from the camera, but if the interface won't work you'll have to do somethiing else.
    I don't have immediate access to Apex - can you load off a card-reader instead of the camera by specifying the drive to load the files from?
    It sounds like more of a Windows problem than Apex. Have you tried browser searches on Logitech and Twain to see if anyone has encountered similar problems?

  • How to read and create TDM Files in a Java Application?

    Hi,
    I want to read and write TDM-Files in a Java-Application.
    I found the TDMHeaderWriter for Java, that can write TDM-Files, but the reading part is still missing.
    Perhaps anyone knows an equivalent in Java to the TDM C DLL and the TDM C Header DLL?
    Thanks Verena

    Cool
    Can you please give me feedback on this project if you have finished it?

  • What are the steps to uninstall Creative Cloud on a Mac and create a brand new re-install

    I am having problems with my Mac OS system disk and have decided to re-format the disk and start again.
    However I have noted numerous members who have removed Creative Cloud products only to find when they wish to re-install being informed that the software is already on their disk.
    Therefore, what I need to know, is what exactly is the procedure that will allow me to erase my disk, re-build it and then download a new copy set of the Creative Cloud software?
    I don't want, when I have rebuilt the hard disk, to be faced with the statement that I already have Creative cloud on my disk ... when in fact I have erased it.
    Thank you.
    James.

    You want to do two things:
    Deactivate the installed programs via the Help menu.
    Uninstall the programs from the links provided in the folder Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers.

  • Can I move 2TB internal HD from old mac to new mac and still access files

    I just upgraded to a new Mac Pro, we have an old G5 Ma Pro thats getting retired. In the old G5 we have an internal 2TB WD drive with all of our customer art files.
    Can I simply pull the HD from the G5 and stick it in the new Intel machine and have access to all of the files and documents on the new machine?

    Yes.
    But I would clone / backup / off load all the files (2x to be safe) and then reformat the drive to new GPT format.
    Your G5 PowerMac and Mac Pro carry different names, a Mac Pro is Intel-only.
    So I'd pick up at least another 2TB WD Black as a minimum, or maybe you already have backups of those files already.
    Your old system of course isn't compatible and should not be installed until reformatted; clean install and update everything, and you will be "stuck" with 10.6.6 as the minimum build (hopefully most things are compatible now).
