Quicktime: 7.0.4, OS 10.4.6 problem?

I am wondering why my current time and total time of a rendered movie is showing weird numbers like (00:00:03.62, and 00:00:42.60) I need to know where in time a frame is so I can fix that frame in the After Effects project. I'm not crazy right?, time is not displayed this way? any clues?
also- when I "shift-drag" to select a certain duration of the movie...I get no duration of selection time display..I don't know from where I am or how long in the clip I've grabbed.

The AppleScript show the time code at the position of the playhead. You would need to run it twice to note the start and stop time of a particular selection.
It also shows that the time code for your file is measured in thousandths of a second. More common is 600.
Open the movie Info window. If the frame rate of your file is 30 and you step through frames (turn on Play All Frames in the View menu) you should see the time portion of the controller change when you advance 30 frames (Example 00:00:00 changes to 00:00:01).
In the Movie Info window you'll see a decimal number after the last second. It will count until the next second has been reached and then repeat.
If you are trying to fine tune a selection (for a trim as an example) use the arrow keys to set your in point and hit the letter i key. Move to your outpoint and hit the letter o key.
With your selection made now you can fine tune. Hold down the Shift key and you can add or remove individual frames from either the in or out points by using the right/left arrow keys. Moving from the in point with the Shift- right arrow keys will remove a frame from the beginning (moving your selection one extra frame to the right) and reduce your selection by one frame. Shift-left arrow key moves to the left which would add a frame.
Deleting, or extracting, a frame can be done with the Delete key or Command-X or Command-C. The individual frame is now on the clipboard ready to be edited. Just open a new Player window and paste or send it to a graphics program.

  • Quicktime.qts detected as cause for video app problems.

Since installing quicktime 7 I've lost all ability to either work with or encode quicktime files within any video program or otherwise which in some way interprets quicktime .mov footage.
The list includes but is not limited to:
    Adobe Premiere Pro
    Adobe After Effects
    EffectsLab DV
After a program crash I click to see closer details on the crash and windows tells me that the problem likes with the quicktime.qts file. I am currently unaware as to whether this problem has been reported already and if it is a general quicktime 7 issue which will be dealt with in the future.
I've rolled back to QT 6.5 and all functionality is restored. And subsequently lost again after reinstalling QT7.
Is anyone else aware of or experiencing these same problems?

It doesn't help to any great extent that quicktime/apple haven't really acknowledged this. Just to add to my list of products that have conflicting quicktime 7 issues:
Processing (http://www.processing.org) can no longer work with video. Neither webcam or otherwise.
    sighs
Thr guys that made EffectsLab have sorted out the Quicktime 7 issues, apparantly there was just one line of code which caused every problem. Will all the software vendors just have to alter their code to accomodate QT7? I hope not...

  • Help Please ::: Quicktime .mov into iDVD 5 playback or encode problem issue

Originally Imageready files burned into Quicktime. Importing Quicktime .mov into iDVD results in project which looked great in preview, but after burning images were elongated, flattened. Thank you for the feedback. I wasn't privy to the process that converted these files originally but suspected the theory on compression/codec initially used.. may re-convert. Also will try Disk Imaging... seems that this is not an uncommon problem in the iDVD 5 world...

  • Quicktime 7.4 solved my HDV 720p24 capture problem

Ok so I know there are problems with quicktime 7.4 and after effects in leopard, but since I'm not using any after effects or leopard on my project I took the plunge. A little back info: finished movie in FCP 6.0.2 dual 2.0 G5 5gb ram Decklink HD 3Tb x-raid os 10.4.11 ,print to tape HDV 720p24 recording onto a JVC BR HD50 deck, attempted recapture immediately after print to tape was done and would get time-code break on recapture.( Pulled out lots of hair, read lots of similar threads of others also going suddenly bald) I read post after post about this but no answers on 7.4 so here is mine. After updating to quicktime 7.4 print to tape and recapture worked perfect for my 89 min movie. _*If you don't use after effects*_ it seems to be safe to upgrade to 7.4 to solve some HDV capture issues with the JVC HDV deck.

Then, the Debreaker that comes with the latest iSquint will definitely fix your problem. iSquint and several other applications were creating invalid .mp4 files when specifically converting from .flv's. The author has discovered this and released the latest version that patches his app so that it now creates standard .mp4's AND has released the Debreaker app that will fix the files created by HIS app, and by other apps suffering from the same problem.
(The reason why they work in older QuickTime is because that version wasn't properly checking for valid file information. The latest version does)

  • Quicktime Export, Hyperlinks Only Option, What's The Problem?

Upon exporting the slideshow using QuickTime option (Hyperlinks only, CD-ROM Movie), the slideshow fails to initialize, the hyperlinks seem to function quite well but the slideshow still progresses everytime the user clicks on other parts of the screen. Doesn't "hyperlinks only" mean advancing to the desired page on a designated "hyperlinked" link only?
What seems to be the problem here?

HMMM....the links seem to be working using "hyperlinks only" mode with "apple intermediate codec" but the thing is, it fails to show the linked slide when it's clicked on the remaining slides! aaargh!

  • QuickTime 7.5 for Leo and Adobe CS3 problem

PhotoShop doesn't startup after QT 7.5 update it tells "Could not initialize Photoship because disk is not available". AI doesn't startup at all. Dreamweaver works fine, Fireworks works fine, Flash works fine.
Also, there is a problem with audio application for Mac, MegaSeg. After QT 7.5 update it crashes when you quit application.
    Be aware.

Illustrator (CS3) works fine, so does InDesign but Photoshop crashes telling "Could not complete your request because of a program error." It worked ok before updating QT 7.5.

  • QuickTime doesn't open up! Please Help!

i recently upgraded to lion, and accidently deleted quick time. I used the snow leopard disk to restore it, but now it doesn't work. Evey time I open it up i get this massage:
QuickTime Player cannot be opened because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure QuickTime Player works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.
I tried using the software update but it says that all the software is up to date.
    What should I do????

    excellent information, sparkly.

    ... and:
To help protect your computer, Data Execution Prevention has closed iTunes
... and the QuickTime Player not launching either (it's a "QuickTime has stopped working" error?).
With that combination, we need to check on some other application (apart from QuickTime itself) stashing old QuickTime componentry on the PC in an unorthodox location. (Codec packs and video converters are the usual suspects with that, although some games might do the same.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
*If you have a 32-bit version of Windows,* open the "System32" folder.
*If you have a 64-bit version of Windows,* open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Quicktime doesn't start up / iTunes freezes or closes down

Having been a satisfied iTunes user for quite a time, it suddenly froze a few days ago when I tried to play already listed songs.
I have installed the latest version but the problem remains. Furthermore, whem importing a file by the menu, an error message appears (error code -50).
Furthermore, when I try to start the QuickTime Player separately, I hear the Windows error sound but now message shows up. QuickTime does not open up.
As recommended in similar threads, I've already tried the following:
    - disabling firewall and/or AntiVir
    - check for spyware
    - soundcard/driver settings checked
    - CHKDSK
    - removing QuickTime/iTunes, cleaning registry, installing QT standalone (same problem...)
Other players or sound related programms work as usual.
Having ordered an iPod and having spend loads of time on this problem, I would be happy if you can provide further ideas. Thank you very much!

  • Need help with first applescript@Quicktime- can't figure out a few lines...

Ok guys I need help, here is what I want to happen. I want the script to just shorten a movie file. It should be so simple!!
    lengthofmovie = film length
set time range from 0 to (lengthofmovie-1)
save the movie as a new file
That is all I want done, I am ripping my hair out of my head trying to do this. Please help me!!
Here is my code so far:
    with timeout of 86400 seconds
display dialog "Before beginning batch processing, make sure QuickTime Player is set to the desired export settings, and all videos to be processed are in a folder named ‘Input’ on the desktop." with icon note
    tell application "Finder"
set the startup_disk to the name of the startup disk
    end tell
set user to do shell script "whoami"
    set inputfoldername to "Input"
    set input_folder to startup_disk & ":Users:" & user & ":Desktop:" & inputfoldername & ":"
    set user_desktop to startup_disk & ":Users:" & user & ":Desktop:"
    set output_folder to startup_disk & ":Users:" & user & ":Desktop:Output:"
    set file_extension to "_export.mp4"
    try
    tell application "Finder"
    make new folder at user_desktop with properties {name:"Output"}
    end tell
    end try
    try
set thefolderlist to list folder input_folder without invisibles
repeat with x from 1 to count of thefolderlist
    set the_file to input_folder & item x of thefolderlist
    set output_file to output_folder & item x of thefolderlist & file_extension
    tell application "QuickTime Player"
    activate
    open the_file
//change timeline, trim NEED HELP HERE
export front document to output_file as MPEG4 using most recent settings with replacing
    close front document
    end tell
    end repeat
    on error
display dialog "This script requires a folder named ‘" & inputfoldername & "‘ located on the desktop." with icon stop
    end try
    beep
    end timeout

    Hi plashd,
First, I must confess that I don't know much about QuickTime. Nevertheless, while trying to understand your problem, I discovered that the AppleScript dictionaries of QuickTime Player and QuickTime 7 were very different from one another, and was unable to use the “export” command of QuickTime Player. However, I finally was able, with the following script, to use AppleScript to shorten a QuickTime movie and save it under another name:
*set the_file to POSIX file "/Users/pierre/Desktop/MVI_0503.MOV"*
    *set output_file to "/Users/pierre/Desktop/NewMVI0503.MOV"*
    *tell application "QuickTime Player"*
    activate
    *open the_file*
    *tell front document*
    *trim from 1 to (duration - 5)*
    *save in output_file with replacing*
    *close without saving*
    *end tell*
    *end tell*
    Hope it can help.

  • HowTo: iTunes+Quicktime on Windows Vista x86

This was fun. Some of you may have noticed that the iTunes + Quicktime installer may not work on Windows Vista Beta 2 (x86). Well, there's an easy work around:
Install Quicktime 7 Standalone first, then install iTunes.
    Problem solved -- iPod works.
    'Nuff said.
    --Ironfist

You may need to register vbscript.dll as in the following article:

This problem seems to have cropped up quite often for vista users.

  • My Quicktime 7 is No longer able to play HD trailers online, or D/L them

    Please Help
OK, so, I have always been an avid user of my Quicktime Pro to watch the HD (720p & 1080p) off-line. Actually it was the only way to watch them. Recently, any trailer on the trailers.apple.com site, Will NOT play or d/l when I click on "Watch now in HD" -- I get an error of: Error 47: Invalid URL. ()
When instead I copy the URL and open a Quicktime window and select, "Open URL" I get:
Error 2048: Couldn't open the file [trailer-URL-here] because it is not a file that Quicktime understands.
    This has never happened before.
HOWEVER: When I manually copy and paste that same URL into my browser (Any browser) I Am able to watch that same video in the browser. Basically, If I hadn't done the extra work of copying & pasting the URL, I would Never had been able to watch the HD trailer...
    Here's an example HD page:
    http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/paramount/transformersdarkofthemoon/
Then followed by the copied trailer URL:
http://trailers.apple.com/movies/paramount/transformers3/transformers-clip1_1080 p.mov (will work in any browser upon clicking, but will not work in my local Quicktime)
I've uninstalled, and re-installed & made sure there are no conflicting apps. or codecs. Am I the only one? (can't be)
    OS: Windows Vista
Quicktime Pro 7 (Most recent updated version)

Same problem for me, i have a home network i have tried 4 of the windows 7 X64 machines and none of them can access  the pop out HD trailers one of them i have only just built it and absolutelyas i say it was a newly built machine, i use the open in new tab method to get around it but it is just madness to have to do so.
I was beginning to think it may have been related to the virgin media *super hub* (not what i would call it lol) but it would appear that that is not the case as there have been no reports on the vm forums of this problem.
I have just tested it on my vista home premium laptop X86 and that has the same problem as well.
Apple you need to fix this as it is most definatly broken.

  • HT3775 Quicktime no longer plays wmv files after recent update

after recent update, quicktime will not open wmv files. had no problem opening them up in the past. reinstalled flip4mac codec and nothing. don't want to use quicklime player 7 b/c need to use fast forward option that will not work with QT7. Any help is appreciated.
    thank you,
    Damian

I ended up on the phone with an Apple iPhoto expert after scheduling an appointment online (go to Apple support). He spent an hour or so diagnosing my particular problem and was able to fix it. I can once again view all my mov files in iPhoto. Since every computer is different, you might want to try that route. He was able to view my computer screen and direct me to do different things.

  • How do I locate the quicktime control panel (to upgrade to quicktime pro) in Windows 7 home premium?

I just paid to upgrade QuickTime and received a registration code. Tho problem is there is no way to find the QuickTime control panel via the Windows 7 Home Premium control panel. How to I ovrcome this?
    p.s. I'm a newbe to QuickTime :-)

    Thanks Gary,
This does not help me... the instructions state:
    1. Locate the QuickTime 7 Control Panel
From the Windows Desktop, click on the Start menu, choose Settings, then choose Control Panel, then locate the QuickTime 7 Control Panel.
However, I cannot locate the QuickTime 7 Control Panel on the Windows 7 control panel -- it's not listed anywhere in the available options.

  • Why does Adobe Media Encoder fail to export Quicktime Files?

I'm using Adobe Media Encoder CC 2014 on a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit PC.
While exporting the Quicktime variant of H.264 for ATSC television broadcast files, Adobe Media Encoder fails.  Non-Quicktime H.264's render correctly, but some television stations require quicktime.
Troubleshooting reveals the problem only occurs when attempting to make a 1920x1080 H.264 QuickTime file.
Using the same original file (1920x1080), Adobe Media Encoder WILL export a 720x480/486 H.264 MOV file.
More interesting still, it will ALSO export at 1280x720.
Testing this information to it's limits, I found that the cutoff for a successful render is between a frame size of 1610x906 and 1609x905.
Useless, random sizes, I know... but that's the breaking point for Adobe Media Encoder CS6 (6.0.3.1 to be precise) and H.264 Quicktime files.

I'm trying to make a file with the extension ".MOV" using AME's "HD 1080i 29.97, H.264, AAC 48kHz" preset.  AME fails every time with the following message:
    "Encoding Failed
    Export Error
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error."
Any other file extension (MP4, M4V, etc.) renders fine.  The issue seems only to happen when attempting to make an MOV file.  It doesn't seem to matter whether I use AME's built-in preset, or customize my own render settings--the problem always happens with any MOV larger than the size I mentioned above.
All of this used to work just fine on the same machine 2 years back with Adobe CS5, previous version of windows and QuicTime.  I've been all through the Adobe and Windows possibilities, so I'm grabbing at straws here with QuickTime maybe having something to do with it.
    Interesting.
Would you happen to know if Adobe has made any changes to its manner of muxing long-address MPEG-4 AVC data to the MOV file container? Since the MP4 and M4V files encode properly, have you tried opening these files in a media player and simply using the "Save As..." option to move the date to an MOV file container without transcoding audio or video data? I.e., is there any obvious relationship between the size of the MOV file encode (less than/greater than 4 GB) as a function of the resolution "break point" previously discovered?
