Quicktime 7.04 conflicts

I have noticed that with Quicktime 7.04 installed on my Mac (running Panther 10.3.9) my copy of Tiger Woods PGA 2005 crashes on opening. The game opens fine when I re-install Quicktime 7.01.
I'm curious as to why this should be happening. I'd like to run the latest version of Quicktime if possible. Does anyone know if this is a known issue or if there is a solution?
Many thanks

Hi,
I checked the Aspyr site. Apparently, Quicktime 7.0.4 is causing launch problems with a number of their titles. The solution is to re-install Quicktime 7.0.1. Which is what I did.
Now I discover that there are other programmes that need 7.0.4 in order to run. You can't win...
I was just curious if there was anything I could do until a fix comes along.

  • Quicktime 7.6 and Perian 1.1.3

Please excuse my starting a new thread, but as its my first post... What the heck!
There seems to be a lot of discussion on here about QT 7.6 problems, so I just wanted to add my pennyworth, because it has led me a right merry dance down the garden path and without the Apple Discussion Forums; a vital source of information, it may have never been solved?
I have an old iBook G3 running OSX 10.4.11 (Ok, i've heard all the jibes...), so obviously if I want to watch QT movies, I encode accordingly (~320x240@800kbps)... Then... after updating to 7.6 and Perian 1.1.3 the frame rate on these files would drop to Zero?
    So...
    1. My computer is too slow?
    2. Quicktime/ Perian/ Component conflicts etc... ?
    3. Hard drive space/ De-fragmentation/ Dashboard hogging CPU etc... ?
Therefore, after trying VLC (they played reasonably well); removing possible conflicting components including Perian; reverting to QT 7.5.5 via Pacifist; cleaning up the Hard Drive... and... Nothing! So... reaching for credit card... New Computer... Nope! (Ok admittedly, I am rambling here... sorry, first post remember)
Eventually, after reading more on Perian issues, I began looking for a previous version...
    see post...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1894108&tstart=30
And after installing version 1.1.2, all the movies were once again restored to their perfectly smooth playback... so, no new computer for me then?
Special thanks, to all the people who post useful advice on these discussion forums...

Kind of an interesting problem, like needing a typewriter ribbon or Gestetner fluid.
LOL. Especially since presumably the OP wants to have this work with the new computer. More like trying to get an electric typewriter to act as the printer for a new Mac. Mind you, if you can find the codec it might actually work. I'm too cheap to buy QT Pro but I find that a lot of the new QT codecs are accessible in my version of Movie Player 2.5.1 (ca. OS 8.1?) I run in Classic.

  • Mac Halo (PowerPC) problems on my MacBook Pro

I double-click on the app and then a setup window pops upLaunch Halo, the opening screen pops up (bluish screen with 'Halo' on it) but then after a few seconds it flikers then crashes unlike most other people who are able to actually PLAY before it crashes.
    I have tried:
-Installing Halo on the home administrator account.
-Uninstalling then reinstalling Halo (Delete folder from Applications, Documents and deleted Halo preferences)on that account.
-Logged into a different user account and reinstalled Halo.
-Logged into a different user account and tried playing Halo.
    -Reinstalled Quicktime.
-Repaired permissions before and after installation.
Previously posted by Infinity_Now (May 2, 2006) in the forums iMac G5>Using your iMac G5:
"When I click on the Halo icon, installed into my home on an administrator account it opens the settings window. As I have for the past few months, with the same settings and hardware, I click on "OK." The Halo title image loads, flickers, and after about 2 seconds the program crashes. I've sent the report to Apple, and searched the web - has no one found out how to get Halo working again?"
All other mac games older than Halo that I own work fine on this computer. So I am guessing that this is not a Rosetta problem but then it can be because somewhere Apple says that it "runs MOST applications" normally (sorry if i misquoted).
Anyway, the only thing left for me to do do is to format my disk and then try install Halo then. Currently dont have any backup disks (will be purchasing one in the next few days) so I will post the results back here once I have tried that.

Well the MBP is Intel based so the PPC version of
Halo is doing what it should, that is crash. Check
    this out
    http://www.destineerstudios.com/support/halo.html
Thanks for the link. I somehow missed it throughout my hours of sifting through the forums for the solution.
The thing is that, with the exception of one or two people with the same problem as me, people actually managed to load and play the game (for a certain length of time before crashing); that is, at least get past the picture the shows up after you click the OK button in the Halo Video Settings window when you launch Halo.
After I encountered this problem, I tried out Warcraft 3 for the first time on this computer (just got my MBP this week).
Same sort of problem as Halo.
Tried launching and then it crashes. Didn't even manage to get to the opening cutscene.
Anyway, I erased and reinstalled my system and, lo and behold, I managed to load the game!!
Just wondering what the root cause for the problem is but I am guessing that:
-Since it loads a movie just after the Halo picture screen, there must have been some problems with Quicktime. Maybe conflicts with plug-ins or something.
-My video card drivers got messed up or they were not installed properly (maybe during software update).
These are some of the posibilities that I can come up with with my limited knowledge in this subject.
Anyway, just happy that I finally got everything up and running after a few hours. I recommend people who have a similar problem to reinstall their system. Hopefully this solves everything!

  • Videos load slowly or not at all with Flash 10!

Well here we go. I'm working on IE 8 128-bit for Windows XP SP3 32-bit. Flash Player 10.1.102.64.
Two days ago I noticed that video playback on sites like Youtube, Veoh, Magavideo etc the load time was real choppy. A video say two or three minuted longs would take more than 3 min, to buffer and then the video would start, then buffer somemore. Start , stop, repeat. For longer videos the flash player wouldn't buffer at all. Now I just give up on watching videos until this problem is solved. I tried one suggestion that said on the adobe hardware settings disable hardware acceleration. Did that, but didn't fix the problem. I've tried unistalling and reinstalling FP 10.1.102.64 once, but that didn't work.
In my "Currently Loaded Add ons" section Shockwave Flash Object is enabled. Version 10.1.102.64 that is.
The files in my system32/Macromed/Flash/ folder are as followed
A folder with 'Flash Player Trust' it contains a filed name rpconverter.cfg
    Flash10l.ocx
    a text document with FlashInstall
    flashplayer.xpt
    FlashUtil10l_ActiveX
    FlashUtil10l_ActiveX.dll
    genuinst
    KB923789
    NPSWF32.dll
I just want to watch videos online again. I need help.
    I have Avast anti-virus
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    Smart Defrag
    Any help anybody.

Step by step what should my Java script setting be? I don't think any quicktime addons are conflicting with it. The First time I had this problem, I had to simply had to turn off the SmartFilter and all my videos buffered smoothly through. I don't know whats wrong THIS time.
When trying to watch a veoh video on this website a error message is found of the page. I click on the little yellow triangle in the corner.

  • I cannot apply transitions, I keep getting this:An Unknown Error Occurred

When I try to apply a transition, I get this message: +"An Unknown Error Occurred+
+You may be able to continue without any problems. You may also wish to save, quit, and re-launch iMovie HD."+ I did so. Several times. I even saved as a new project. I even shut down and booted from my install disk and ran Disk Utility, repaired permissions and repaired disk. No problems.
When I try to apply a Video FX, like Fast/Slow/Reverse, the clip shows the usual red line underneath but it never completes. It stays red.
Here's my best guess: The common denominator here is a video clip I imported...not from my camera. It was widescreen, or 16:9, or to be specific, 640x272. I wanted it to match the rest of my movie so I used QT Pro to change it to 640x480. Then I used someone's suggestion to drag that into the iMovie's Package Contents Media folder. It worked. That is, when I reopened my iMovie project, that clip played at 4:3 ratio. Beautiful. And that's the only thing I can think of that could be causing this problem.
Any help, please. I am wasting so much time fooling with this.
    noodlehead confoun..ddeD

In addition to the above maintenance, you should also delete preferences by closing down iMovie and trashing the file named com.apple.iMovie.plist located in User (the house icon)/Library/Preferences. On relaunch, iMovie will creat a new .plist file to replace the one that you deleted. Often that simple procedure will solve problems like yours.
Additionally, check to make sure that you have sufficient disk space on your start up disk for iMovie to function efficiently. 20GB to 25GB is frequently recommended by users of this forum.
Make sure that your iLife programs are all up to date, particularly Quicktime.
Sometimes 3rd party or Quicktime plugins can conflict with iMovie and cause problems. If you have such plug-ins, temporarily disable them by moving them to a different folder.
You also could try opening your project in a different user and see if perhaps the conflict is specific to your user ID.

  • Itunes and Server 2003

Hi. I am running Windows Server 2003 on My Dell Laptop and am unable to install iTunes or Quicktime.
I was told it was a problem with Quicktime and a conflict between windows security settins and quicktimes security settings.
When I try to install iTunes (iTunes + Quicktime) I get an error at the end about quicktime failing. Something about "Error -3". Then I can never access either program.
What do I do. I don't want to use different piece of software.

    hi ryan!
I was told it was a problem with Quicktime and a conflict between windows security settins and quicktimes security settings.
yes, the first thing we have to check on with this on any version of Server 2003 and any x64 version of XP is the conflict between the QuickTime player and Windows Update KB908531.

  • Final Cut, Quicktime, and Pro Tools conflicts

    Hi there,
I'm working on a "situation" I recently encountered, and wonder if anybody else has had this problem.
I'm trying to upgrade Pro Tools LE to version 6.9.2 with the install discs that were sent to me from Digidesign, and it's wreaking havoc with Final Cut Pro and Quicktime.
Initially when I installed the upgrade, I was running OSX 10.4.2, FCP 5.0.3 and QT 7.0.2. The Pro Tools upgrade worked fine, as did FCP when I launched it, but Quicktime wouldn't launch- spinning beachball forevermore.
So after doing all the basics- trashing pref's and render files, repairing permissions, etc.- and finding QT still wouldn't work, I tried upgrading to QT 7.0.3.
Once I did that, QT still wouldn't work, and Final Cut Pro would no longer launch. It just hung on the application startup screen, at no particular point each time.
I then upgraded to FCP 5.0.4, and as well OS 10.4.3. No luck. I installed the Pro Application Support updates 2005-02 1.0, and 3.1, and still no luck.
Since there is not yet a downgrade from QT 7.0.3 to 7.0.2, I ran the 7.0.2 to 7.0.1 installer, and downgraded to QT 7.0.1. QT still wouldn't launch, and FCP still hung on launch but this time it hung at the point where it was loading audio filters.
I tried removing the audio filters from their folders to see if it would launch then, but that didn't work. At this point, the only thing I could think to do was to uninstall Pro Tools altogether (safe uninstall, not clean uninstall) and this is what finally brought Quicktime and Final Cut back to life. Great, because I use FCP and QT everday, but I no longer have the use of Pro Tools.
Throughout this process I made sure to diligenty repair permissions, trash prefs, and restart whenever I made a change.
So I'm not sure at this point how to get Pro Tools LE 6.9.2, Final Cut Pro 5.0.4, and Quicktime (any version above 7.0) to work harmoniously, and I'm unable to spare any more troubleshooting time for a week or so because there are of course, projects due.
Has anybody else encountered these oddities?
    Thanks a lot,
    Joni

    Hi, Joni C
    I'm Bump,
I'm having the same trouble, I have FCP I'm running it on a G5 power Mac dual 2.5 ghz with 2.5 gb of memory, my os is 10.4.4. I also have Quicktime pro 7.0.3 and I have Pro Tools LE 7.0, every time I try to use FCP it starts and about five sec. later it shuts back down. I also have a Universal Audio UAD pci card that runs audio plugins and I also have fxpansion program it converts my vst & Au plugins to rtas for pro tools le. IBefore I installed FCP I wiped my hard drive and re installed a fresh version of tiger 10.4 and then I installed FCP studio, then Pro Tools, then all plugin and kept checking to make sure every thing was working correctly and then the U audio stuff with the Vst to rtas wrapper and it all was working fine. I even did the full final cut tutorial still worked fine. Yesterday out of no where final cut just stop working and still all the other programs work fine like dvd studios, soundtrack, motion, pro tools. If you can shead any light on this I would be very greatful

  • Here is a solution to the Quicktime 7.1.5 Update conflicts - it works!

Any program that is having a problem since the Quicktime 7.1.5 Update should benefit from reverting back to QT version 7.1.3 . My TurboTax works again, because I downgraded to QT 7.1.3 .
You can't manually remove all of the files necessary to uninstall QT 7.1.5. Don't even try.
Don't uninstall and re-install your programs. It is a waste of time, and will not fix the problem.
You can choose to re-install the operating system, and it should work. It is not necessary, though, and is a hassle.
This is how you can easily downgrade QuickTime 7.1.5 to version 7.1.3:
    1. Download Quicktime 7.1.3 installer:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime713formac.html
    2. Mount the installer package (Double click QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg so that it opens and shows the open box icon labeled QuickTime713.pkg). This is very important.
    3. Download and install Pacifist from this location:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
    4. Open Pacifist (You can do so without going through the registration process. You can do that later if you decide to pay.)
    5. Drag the QuickTime713.pkg icon to the Pacifist dialog box. When you release it, another window opens with a list of files. The top file is labeled "Contents of QuickTime713.pkg."
(Please note that if you mistakenly select the unmounted .dmg file into Pacifist instead of the .pkg, there will be an installation but without an effect. )
    6. Click to highlight "Contents of QuickTime713.pkg."
    7. Go to the "File" Menu in the Menu Bar and choose "Install Files to Default Locations" from the pulldown menu.
A dialog box will open asking if you want to install entire contents. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT TO DO.
    8. Be sure to check the box that says "Use Administrator Privileges" if it is not already checked.
    9. Click "Install" and carefully read any further instructions as they pop up. You will respond with the equivalent of YES every time, even if asked to replace every file for QuickTime. Take your time, and don't assume that you know what the instructions say without reading them.
    10. When the install process is finished, restart the computer. You are through with Pacifist, so don't open it again (unles you decide to Register and pay).
    11. Once again, open QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg. Double click QuickTime713.pkg to do a normal installation one more time. After the install is done, restart your Mac one last time. That's it.
By the way - NEVER keep your tax return data file in the same folder as the TurboTax application. You might accidentally delete it when uninstalling TurboTax. Put it in a folder with your other tax prep documents.
It took me approximately one hour from the time I started downloading QT 7.1.3 and Pacifist until I was completely finished and using TurboTax again. I have a 400 Mz PowerPC Sawtooth G4, so your time may be better. Good luck!
Oh, and don't forget to pay for Pacifist. They deserve it!

I get the following error message when I try to open iTunes: QuickTime 7.0d0 is installed. iTunes requires 7.03 or later. Please reinstall iTunes.

  • Itunes and Quicktime conflicts

I got a replacement ipod from apple and it told me to install itunes 5. I got halfway through the install, then when it said it was installing the quicktime software it wouldn't go any further. The error message I got from the itunes was that quicktime wasn't installed.
Since then I've tried various things to get quicktime installed (standalone player, older version of itunes on CD) but now the itunes won't open (tells me it had error and shut down, asked to send error report to microsoft) and I can't download the quicktime in any form (the standalone installation gets to environmental strings installation and stalls). So I got an ipod with no music on it, and a bigger hole than I started with
    help me please!

Let's get an installation log on the problem and send it to the Apple engineers.
    1. Turning on some advanced logging by creating a new file in your "Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp" folder with the name "QTInstallerLauncher.log". You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find this folder. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.)
    2. Start menu -> Run... In the text field of the dialog that comes up, type in "cmd" and hit return.
    3. In the command prompt dialog that comes up, find the Quicktime standalone installer on your desktop and drag it to this window. Then on the same line type in a space and then the following:
    /Verbose"c:\log.txt"
There is no space between the e in Verbose and the double quote (").
    4. Hit return.
    5. The installer will create a log file:
    C:\log.txt
    and a file called:
"Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\QTPluginInstaller_9999.log" (number may differ). You may have multiple files like this..... Send them all, or at least the most recent ones.
Find those files and send them to the apple moderator. Tell her Toonz sent you. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context.

  • After Effects 7.0 and Quicktime Plugin Conflict

    Hello "forum-ers",
I'm using Adobe After Effects 7.0, and i've created a video in the same.I want to use this video in Adobe Flash CS3.Neither the flv nor the Quicktime formats are available in the render queue options.I presume its because i do not have Quicktime installed. But if i try to install Quicktime, AE wouldn't load.It displays a message, error while loading plug-in "Scripting", and then crashes. So, i guess there's a shared plugin somewhere in between the two.
So if i use QT,i cant open AE.If i use AE,i cant save in QT.Similar problem lies in Flash, and its CS3 Encoder.Without installing QT, it displays a message : install DirectShow 9 "and" Quicktime 7.
    Any help appreciated!
    Many Thankx,

I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds like something is severely mixed up on your system. Do you by any chance use some widget-y system extensions? Users have reported some funny things going on when e.g. MenuMaster or specific news feed widgets are installed. In any case, since for the time being you seem to be stuck with no QT in AE, you should work with TIFF files and PSDs. Both formats are reasonably compressed (for TIFF, enable the LZW option), support 16bpc and they are handled by native Adobe loaders/ savers, which should eliminate any potential interference side effects from your defunct QT routines. In addition, TIFFs can play almost realtime in AE just like some QT CoDecs, which helps when scrubbing through a complex project.

  • QuickTime 7.2 and Google Finance conflict

I just updated to QT 7.2. Trailers and sound plays in ITunes, but web QT windows do not play, ie, stock charts in Google Finance. They worked find before the update.

The charts use Flash media and you need to have Flash Player (new updated version this last week) to view them.
If you're getting a QT ? icon in place of the charts you may have QuickTime plug-in trying to be used instead of Flash.
    The fix:
QuickTime System Preferences / Advanced tab
    Click the MIME Settings button
Under Miscellaneous remove the check mark for Flash media.
Quit and relaunch your browser and try the page again.
