Quicktime 7.04 Issue - FCE

How intimate is the relationship between FCE and QT? I am still running OSX 10.3.9, but QT has evolved up to 7.04. I know that Apple had issues with 7.04, and I recently downgraded back to 7.01. I never had a problem playing QT video, but I am wondering how the QT upgrade/downgrade can effect FCE.
Should I update to the newest QT upgrades, or stay at 7.01? I will probably install Tiger later this month, but $$ issue at the moment. There is a FCE 3.01 upgrade, but it only works on Tiger.
Is it worth the upgrade cost?
Thanks in advance, DE

Okay, I had FCE on an external hard drive. The external hard drive (Lacie, 160 gig) is a fully bootable hard drive and is connected to the G5 (first gen) via standard firewire cable. The G5 is running 10.3.9 whereas the external is running 10.4.5. I had my Sony TRCRV or something like that, hooked up through 4 pin to 6 pin firewaaire, to the G5. I booted the G5 into the external hard drive and tried to import video from the camera into FCE. The settings are the standard settings allowed by Easy Set up. Quicktime is 7.04. As soon as I hit import, FCE crashes. Was told on this forum to downgrade to Quicktime 7.01 as well as deleting preferences, Quicktime packages, prefereence lists, run repair permissions, etc. Only thing that works is to downgrade 7.04 to 7.01. By the way, the same camera, with the same firewire, works fine in iMovie on the G5. On the hard drivee, I can't import footage into iMove 06 because I need 7.04

  • Error Message When Importing Quicktime Screen Capture to FCE

As I said in the subject I'm having issues importing a Quicktime Screen Capture into Final Cut Express. I keep getting this message.
File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown
I figure it has to be a quick fix for this simple problem. And it's probably just my first time.
    Thanking you in advance

QuickTime Screen Recordings are H.264 video files. You need to convert this to +QuickTime Apple Intermediate Codec+ in order to use it in FCE. MPEG Streamclip (free) can do this for you.

  • Safari QuickTime Plug In Issues

    Hello Everyone,
I set up a IP Cam over at another location on an apple time capsule router. I mapped port 80 so external users ie. you guys could access it.
You can view the camera here: http://67.165.53.251/

My problem is using a Macbook air running OS Snow Leopard, QuickTime X and the latest build of Safari I can't get a video feed from the camera. The feed works fine on a PC and my GFs Macbook Pro running 10.4.
Basically what happens is when the QuickTime plug in tries to connect to the video feed it says "negotiating" forever. Then eventually the video feed never loads. This one has me stumped, I tried calling apple care and they gave me the whole shpeal on how that my problem was not covered my apple care. A few days ago when I called them with a similar issue and one of their tier 2 guys was able to help me out. Any ideas on what is going on here? I don't have any antivirus or firewall blocking it. I already downloaded QuickTime 7 as an alternative to X but no luck. I cleared my cache, history and .plist files and still no solution. I also tried connecting to the cam on my bosses MacBook Air virtually the same as mine and he had the same problem I did.

Your "kitty" feed works just fine for me using Safari and Snow Leopard.
Difficult to diagnose the cause as there is no longer a QuickTime "System Preferences" pane where settings can be tested.
The "negotiating" is talk between your streaming server and the browser plug-in. Once things are settled out playback begins. And it works for me but not for you.
Test the page using a different User account. This helps rule out many issues.

  • QuickTime Live Broadcast issues.

After upgrading to 802.11n, I have had a problem watching Live QuickTime broadcasts in both wired and wireless modes. Video / audio drops out constantly and what video I do get, is severely pixelated and is totaly unusable.
I have re-installed my 802.11g unit and the problem goes away. I have never had this problem untill I replaced my AirPort Extreme "g".
I have tried port mapping QuickTime Server with no change.
I have tried everything I can think of with no luck. Am I the only one with this problem? Did I miss a setting somewhere? How is this problem corrected?
Thank you all for your assistance.

i have the same problem ... and earlier posts here haven't yielded any solutions. See:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4535843&#4535843
btw: the same computer works fine at the local Apple Store (which uses the 802.11n Extreme) ... but not with the 802.11n Extreme at my home. The Apple Store folks say that aside from assigning specific channels, they have only "default" settings. I tried changing my channel to something other than Automatic ... but it doesn't help.
Since the earlier post - I've set-up the older 802.11g unit and got screen captures of all the settings. Then went back to the 802.11n and ensured that the set-up of the two units are identical (to the extent there is 1-to-1 correspondence).
also: two of my systems also have the latest releases of Quicktime and Flip4Mac. They have problems of their own! (See their discussion forums). But my older iBook has the same software that has been used without issues for the past several months. The only "new" item in the system is the new 802.11n base station.

  • My quicktime video "imported" into FCE

shows a thumbnail in the browser - but the video isn't actually there. Has happened with capture from the camera as well - all looks good/right in the process (like normal) but I finish up without the video where I need it in FCE. It plays fine as a Quicktime file on my hardrvie.  I would of course love your thoughts, since this seems to be happening more often.

Does anyone know how I can get the sound to transfer as well so I can use the whole video + sound in imovie.
Sony Digital cameras usually save their video files as "muxed" MPEG-1 (MPEG VX) content which is "playback only" compatible with QT applications. Thus, when you use QT based applications to perform your conversion, only the video content makes it through the conversion process. In this case you need to use a third-party, MPEG-based utility to perform your conversions. iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free), FFmpegX (donation-ware, and Visual Hub (pay-ware) are all popular Internet downloads which will work for you. iSquint is probably the easiest to use but limits your conversion to MPEG4/AAC and H.264/AAC compression formats which are compatible with iMovie '08. I prefer MPEG Streamclip which is more full featured and allows the use of additional formats such as DV and AIC/AIFF but is not as simple to use.

  • Final Cut Pro 4.5 and Quicktime 7 compatibility issues. Error 39!

I see some people saying Quicktime 7 is not compatible with Final Cut 4.5 and some saying it is.
I upgraded to 10.3.9 and then Quicktime 7 and I started getting error 39 at this one spot in my timeline and then crashing if I tried to play just a few seconds ahead of that spot. I tried trashing the prefs but that didn't do any good. The individual files play fine outside the timeline so it isn't corrupt media. I tried rerendering the effects that are at that point but that didn't help. I tried copying the entire timeline to a new sequence and that didn't help.
The strange thing was that when I took the part of the movie that was having trouble and deleted it from the timeline it still got error 39 when just playing over the empty timeline where the media used to be! This led me to realize that the problem lay in some Quicktime audio effects I had about a second in front ot the error 39 spot. I took off the effects from that audio but it didn't help. Then I deleted that audio from the timeline and just pasted it back in from the original clip and then it finally got to working.
Now I know nothing about the software, but I thought there might be some connection between the fact that I had effects that FCP labels as "quicktime effects" on there from my days in Quicktime 6.5, then upgraded to Q7, and perhaps those old effects don't work in Q7? I don't know.
So, my immediate problem is solved but I thought this experience may be of use to someone else. And perhaps some compatibility issues can be brought to light.

I would assume the Software Update program has sufficient logic within it to detect that my friend is running Final Cut Pro 4.0 and it would therefore be disastrous to install QuickTime 7.3, thus removing QuickTime 7.3 from her list of suggested updates. Would someone at Apple please fix this?
Sorry, but Quicktime is a component for SO MANY things, not just FCP. Sorry, but the OS doesn't detect that older versions of software are on there and won't be compatible...this is where you need to have a little knowledge. And sorry, but you need to have a little knowledge. If things are working, DO NOT UPGRADE unless it has been tested and cleared. In the case of FCP 4...it has not.
Rule of thumb...if you use older software, you have to stick to older versions of the OS and components that that software relies on.
How many things were broken with Vista? So many that the HUGE community let out a cry and now XP is available again configured on machines or as a stand alone buy. And no, Vista didn't warn that certain applications wouldn't work either.
You gotta research and find out. This place here...this forum...is a FANTASTIC place to find stuff like this out.
BTW...Apple doesn't read these forums, only us users. Gotta submit feedback here:

  • Quicktime audio sync issues

    Hello,
I have quicktime version 10 (128).   I can't get anything to play in it without there being severe audio sync issues every time.  I can't figure out why.  Can someone please help me fix this problem?
When I export my movies from imovie to quicktime it will play in quicktime, properly and without sync issues, for a really short period of time - seconds.  But after that, the audio no longer matches the video.   I know it's an issue in QT because when I upload the video to YouTube there are no audio sync issues whatsoever.
    Help?
    Thank you so much,
    YahYah

I am dissapointed to see that no one has addressed this issue. I have similar issues.
The MP4's play perfectly in the quicktime player but in Premiere they are off by varying degrees sometimes up to a minute even. I had similar problems in the past with files from the same producer. However last time I was able to  change the extension before importing and then sync them up manually on the timeline. It worked everytime. This time however when I change the extension Premiere brings it in as an audio only file.

  • Quicktime MIME Setting Issues

I just upgrated to ITunes 5.0.0.35, Wich also upgraded Quicktime to 7.0.2
When I try to download an MP3 (from a website other than Itunes) it will not download, it goes to a screen that plays the mp3 in Quicktime. I do not care for Quicktime, never used it so I removed it, but ITunes would not work, so I had to re-install (repair) ITunes and now I have to deal with Quicktime and can not download.
What gives??? I've tried and tried re-setting the MIME settings but it's like they're ignored by Quicktime.
Should I just stop using ITunes????
    Please help!!!!!

I have exactly the same issue using firefox. When I try to download a file from a website such as garageband.com it plays in the quicktime 7 plugin instead of downloading. The way it used to happen is that to download I would click on a link to a php file that I assume checks I am logged in the site with a valid ID and then that PHP script returs the mp3 file to the browser that saves it or load it in winamp. The problem is that if I right click and save as I only get the script and not the MP3, and if I left click I get quicktime playing the file without any option for me to save it instead of the download. I tried changing the mime settings in quicktime and in firefox without success. I had to uninstall quicktime 7 and put back an older version to be again able to save mp3s. For me this is a major bug that needs to be solved by apple ASAP. does anyone know how to contact their support?

  • Isolated Quicktime 7 playback issues

I have some MP4 videos that I didstributed to a number of people with various OS versions (all the way back to 10.4) and also Windows. They run for everyone except ONE person who is not computer savvy.  She says she has been able to play other videos.  The issue is that the sound halts throughout and the videos freeze on the first frame.  As I said, no one else is having any problems.
She is using Quicktime 7.6.9 and her OS is 10.5.8.
Can anyone give me some suggestions of what might be causing this and what can be done at her end to correct it?  Re-encoding the videos at my end isn't an option (at least not at this time), and anything involving Terminal at her end is also not an option.
Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thank you!

She should be using QT 7.7. It can be downloaded from here:

  • ITunes issues, hissing, store crashes, quicktime buggy, browsers issues etc

Where do it start, iTunes 7.1.3 is a bomb! I changed my quicktime settings in preferences, audio, to safemode, rate:32khz, size:16bit, channels: Stereo, Music Syntheszisor: general midi and the hissing, garbling is somewhat better. But, if you use any other application the sound again distorts. Major issue.
Next: Itunes is unable to browse Album covers on this computer!
Itunes Store: when going to movies or othe areas, message: unable to browse Album covers on this computer and then Itunes crashes! Solutions welcome!

    I give up!

  • QuickTime and Applescript issue.

I am having an issue with applescript and QT 7 Pro. Last year I wrote a script and it uses a folder action and converts our footage into DV stream format acceptable to our on-air Windows server. Well, it works beautifully in QT 6.5 Pro/Panther. A 30 second clip takes only a few seconds to convert. But with Tiger and QT 7, encoding with the same script, it pretty much takes real time to encode it. Now, if I manually export it with QT 7 Pro with the same settings the script calls, it goes at the fast speed it does under 6.5.2. It seems the lethal combination is applescript and QT 7. Does anyone have any ideas or have heard of this problem? Thanks.

  • Keynote to Quicktime or HTML issues:

Thanks for any help you may offer. I have made a small keynote presentation that works perfectly when running Keynote. After converting to quicktime or html, the audio is out of sync repeats itself, and some of the transitions stop functioning as they should. I am using Keynote 6.5.2 under Yosemite on a macbook pro. The presentation consist of 7 slides with one self recorded voice over music and saved as an mp3 file. Each presentation contains several transitions and builds. I'm at a loss to what the issue maybe. I have done this successfully in the past. Any ideas? Thanks.

What method are you using to synchronise the images to sound?
Unlike video files, Keynote does not have a method of locking the sound and pictures together to stay in sync, therefore images may drift away from the sound.
If you need precise sync, you will have to use a video editing application, although I have found Keynote to provide reasonable presentation with sound.

  • QuickTime Pro Registration Issues

i have a new iMac and just bought quicktime pro. I'm trying to put in the registration data but it sits and does nothing. The online support says go to system preferences but quicktime 7 is not visablee - why should i do?

Hi Brian - hope I can help - I wasted 2 hours with Applecare on this last week.  After 4 gurus they agreed its not Apple's finest. First when you buy QT Pro online (£20) it does not tell you what to do with the registration - poor instructions.  Then you need to have downloaded Quicktime Player 7.  To make this more interesting you will not find this in Applications.  It will be in Utilities (a Lion quirk).  I also had QT Player 10.1 which could not be deleted except by Apple Guru 2 helping me build another identity that allowed me to do so.  So eventually you have one Quicktime Player app - version 7.
Open it and then registration in the drop down menu - it should let you enter the registeration key.  When it has registered it does not tell you so and to make it even more frustrating the app does not rename - it stays as Quicktime Player 7.  More confusing still - none of the greyed out features that belong to Pro are shown in black until you open a file first.  Brian it should work if you get past these issues - otherwise complain to Applecare.  Good luck!

  • Safari 4.0 - Quicktime Plug-In Issue

    Hey Everyone,
Hoping that I might be able to get a little bit of help here. Safari 4.0 is almost running fine for me. The only problem that I have is playing any Quicktime movie. Trailers, Keynote, etc. Whenever I try, I get the following message:
The page “Apple - Movie Trailers - Shutter Island” attempted to load an Internet plug-in named “QuickTime Plug-In 7.6.2”, but the plug-in failed to load successfully.
I deleted the quicktime plug-in and web plug-in from my library, and tried again, but was requested to install Quicktime. I reinstalled QT but then got the same error. I tried deleting the divx and flip4mac plug-ins also, but again... no success.
    Can someone please help?

No dice... opens up the new window and here's the answer I get...
The page “http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/.Movies/dave.mov” attempted to load an Internet plug-in named “QuickTime Plug-In 7.6.2”, but the plug-in failed to load successfully.
    Same problem as always!

  • Quicktime  and firefox issues

when installed, quicktime overwrites flash files, like youtube or any ads that use flash, with the quicktime logo with "?". before, if i uninstalled quicktime, flash would work again.
now even with quicktime uninstalled, firefox promts that the "quicktime plug-in only works with quicktime version 5 or later and to visit apple.com to download quicktime". installing quicktime 7.1.6 leads to the disappearance of all flash once again.
this problem only happens in firefox; flash works fine in both Internet Explorer and Opera.
EDIT: when quicktime IS installed, the only MIME settings selected are for quicktime movie. nothing under the Misc. category is selected.
this has been entirely frustrating and any help that can be offered would be extremely appreciated.
    Windows XP

How to view/hear pretty much everything:
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
