Quicktime 7.1.1 to 7.0.1 (Tiger Woods 2005 problem)

Hi,
I need to revert from QT 7.1.1 to QT 7.0.1 to run Tiger Woods 2005. Anyone know how to do this? I tried using the download for 7.0.4 to 7.0.1 but that's saying that my drive does not have a version of quicktime that can be rolled back by it.
Thanks,
Rahul

I struggled with this for some time before I very
kind person (I cannot remember his/her name but I
believe the thread was 7.1 oddities - anyone else
see these?) offered the following: (This worked
flawlessly for me).
Download Pacifist.
Navigate to your hard disk, and locate the Library->
Receipts folder. Find the file QuickTime7.1.pkg, and
toss it in the trash if it's there.
Download 7.0.4 from here:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime704.ht
ml
Mount the disc image. Don't open the package yet.
Open up Pacifist, and click on "Open Package".
Navigate to your 7.0.4 installer image, and select
the 7.0.4 installer package.
Use Open Package again in Pacifist to open the
extracted package (you should see Library, private,
System and Applications), and press "install" and
take the default directory "/".
Once Pacifist starts installing the new version of
Quicktime, when asked if you want to replace or
update a file, always replace it.
(*I repeat, always select Replace. I almost missed
that)
This will write QT 7.0.4 over 7.1.
(It took quite some time for me. I just let it run
and it did the job.)
When it's finished, reboot.
(optional if you want to downgrade further) Download
the QT7.0.1 Reinstaller for 7.0.4. Now run this to
downgrade back to QT7.0.1
noodle--head
I'm trying to follow this course of action. I get to the point where Pacifist is preparing to Open the QT 7.04 Pkg. I have the screen that gives me Library, Private, system, and Applications but the install button is dimmed so I can't get to the next step. Am I missing a step somewhere?
Also, in my Library folder I have Pks. for everything from 6.5.2 thru 7.0.4 There are 6 different versions. could I not go directly back to 6.5.2 using Pacifist? (if I could get the Install button to be active).
Really do need to get this issue resolved: taking way too much time, energy, and effort.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
TD

I have an .avi file Quicktime is refusing to play, yet the information says Quicktime does play .avi files. Does anyone know what the problem is?

AVI is a legacy file container originated by Microsoft back in 1992 and which has not been officially supported for more than a decade. Like the container, many of the codecs commonly used to create AVI content are also "legacy" compression formats most often supported on PC/Windows platforms. In fact, some codecs have never been transcoded for Mac use. Of those that have, many never made the transition to Mac OS X or the transition to Intel-based platforms. Those codecs that are still supported on the Mac can normally be found in the avi to quicktime converter available as an online download. While some common AVI compression formats may be supported by the QT X Player app, QT 7 currently provides a more compatible AVI playback environment for most "legacy" compression formats. If the codec(s) used in your AVI files are not supported by the avi to quicktime converter for QT use, you can try the VLC media player which may still support more esoteric compression formats. If  VLC does not support the files, the normal approach is to discover which specific audio and/or video codecs were used to create the file and perform an Internet search to see if a compatible Mac component is available for download.

  • QuickTime Plug-in 7.6.4 upade in tiger

There is no update to this in the mac software update built into the os or on the apple website. According to firefox and several articles there is a vulnerability in this version and it must be updated. Does apple have have 7.6.5 or .6 for this mac os anymore. This is is still being used a lot in the university. It should have common software updates especially quicktime.
Also can I download the time machine backup program to?

  • Quicktime broadcaster won't work since upgrade to Tiger!

this is probably the worst experience i've had trying to get support from Apple. nothing remotely resembling my problem is anywhere in the knowledge base. here's the deal...
i used broadcaster every week prior to upgrade without any problems...NOW...i am unable to "enable video stream" since upgrading to Tiger. All I can broadcast is audio.
I EVEN have AppleCare support for my computer but Apple still won't help me!!!! I spent all day on this and need it to work TOMORROW MORNING! didn't expect any problems since it worked fine before.
    Signed,
A disappointed customer who has used Apple Computers for 20+ years!

Okay....after a few more hours I decided to reinstall Quicktime Player and then re-enter my quicktime Pro registration key. Now it works. I'm still disappointed that Apple wouldn't help me with this though. Not the service I'm used to.
So...quicktime broadcaster users be advised of this need to reinstall quicktime after upgrading to Tiger. It wasn't just my g5 that was affected...I checked it out on my g4 powerbook and also had the same problem.

  • QuickTime 7.3.1 will not install on Tiger. Anyone else experiencing this?

I updated my computer's software yesterday. The computer successfully updated iTunes, iPhoto, GarageBand, and the update to 10.4.11. The problem is when the computer went to install QuickTime 7.3.1, it had an error and did not install. Therefore, GarageBand will not work and other websites will not work either. I tried to install it several times, but it still states the same error. I have tried to trash all of the QuickTime files and reinstall an older version, but the computer keeps stating that the newest version is still there. When I search the computer, the newest version is not listed anywhere. In addition, I ran disk utilities and it "fixes" links to QuickTime, but Quicktime will not work. Again, it will not install correctly. Is anyone experiencing this? If you are, I would greatly appreciate any advise. Thank you.

    Apple Discussions!
Did you restart after repairing permissions? Have you tried reinstalling from QT website instead of from the Software Update control panel?
You may need to repair disk/permissions directly from your System Install Tiger DVD.

sometimes Unicode processing of text may wrongly convert a character which is originally only 1 byte wide to a full 3-byte wide Unicode character. This may be the source of this bug.
    有时候将非Unicode字符转换为Unicode字符可能会错误地将原本只有一个字节宽的字符转换成一个完整的三字节Unicode字符,这可能就是问题的起因。

  • Problems Migrating a QuickTime 7.2 Account to pre-QT7.2 Tiger Install

I installed a new 160GB Seagate 5400.3 drive into my MacBook Pro 15" 2Ghz Core Duo computer yesterday and reinstalled Tiger using the provided Restore DVDs from Apple included with the computer. During the registration, I used the Migration Assistant to transfer my previous account on the old hard drive (now attached as a USB drive using an external enclosure). This went smoothly and as expected. After this was completed and the computer was at the desktop, the first thing I did was use the Software Update to get the newest versions of the software Software Update supports (including the newest iTunes 7.3.1 and OS 10.4.10 update). I did not update to QuickTime 7.2.
After installing the updates and restarting, I then started to use the computer normally, launching up iTunes to listen to music, my Adium client to sign on to IM, and Firefox to use the web. All of these programs launched and ran fine as expected.
Here's the problem. After a few minutes, Adium "unexpectedly" quits, so I relaunch it, and it keeps "unexpectedly" quitting intermittently while in the background sometimes, and others while I'm using it. I tried reinstalling the program several times, removing the application support folder for it from the user account library folder, and installing it some more times all with the same quitting for no apparent reason.
During this, I could not launch Quicktime (although the VLC player worked fine to watch video). Then, suspecting something amiss with Quicktime, since there has been some issues loading some kinds of videos with QT7.2 I launched up iDVD and Keynote to use their Quicktime features in the media browser panels (at least I suspect they are QT components). iDVD quit when I tried to make a new widescreen project, about the time the music for the theme should have started, and Keynote quit when I tried to preview a song from my iTunes library.
I then used Software Update to update to QuickTime 7.2 and instantly the unexpected quitting stopped occurring across all programs (Even before restarting after the install was complete).
This leads me to believe that if you "Migrate" an account and the old hard drive's applications that had QuickTime 7.2 installed and try to use QuickTime components without updating to 7.2, they will fail. Has anyone else had similar problems with QuickTime components after Migrating?

The following finally worked for me:
    I removed the folder
    /System/Library/Automator and then ran the
QT 7.2 Installer. It seems to want to replace some of the files in this folder and can't for some reason. It will re-create the folder Automator and put in its files. After the restart, I put the files from the removed folder back into this new folder. I took care not to replace the new ones that were just installed. I had to have to hold down the Option key and authenticate before my Mac would allow me to put files into this "holy" location.
    Good luck.
P.S. Someone can kill my duplicate posting here.

  • Quicktime 7.1.5/Final Cut Pro 4.5 Image quality problems

    Hi.
A lot of the time when I export .dv video into a lower quality video (.mov, .mp4) there are weird lines that appear in the motion. It's hard to explain, so I will post an image of it.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/KhyronJinn/Screens%20with%20a%20purpose/Q uickTimePlayerScreenSnapz001.jpg
    *Just tried again*
This happens with ANY export to any settings, even at the highest quality and almost identical hard drive space. I've also observed this problem when using still frames in Final Cut Pro, these lines of motion (I guess you could call them?) from one frame to another when extracted from a still. I'm at a complete loss here.

Use the De-interlace filter in FCP...If your using Compressor, best bet is to de-interlace in Compressor.

  • Quicktime 7.1.2

I recently updated to Quicktime 7.1.2. Since that time I am unable to run Tiger Woods 2005. I cannot find a reinstaller that will allow me to go back to 6.5, and after talking to a Apple "Genius" at the local Apple Store, have been told that it is nearly impossible to remove a quicktime installation without the help of a reinstaller.
I contacted the game maker and they tell me that since Apple updates quictime on an almost monthly basis, and that since the problem only exists with OSX 10.3.9, not newer OS's, that they are not willing to write patches that will only fix the problem for a month.
Has anyone had success with going back to an earlier version of Quictime from 7.1.2 ? Or any other solutions ?
    Many thanks,
    G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

You have the brilliant situation where upgrading to Tiger will make Tiger work! Of course, on the day that Steve Jobs will preview 10.5, upgrading to 10.4 may have less appeal.
Meanwhile,I wonder if this reinstaller for 10.3.9 will work with 7.1.2?:

  • Problems since Quicktime 7.6 updater install

Have been unable to open and use my Sims2 games since the most recent Quicktime 7.6 installation via the software update last week. According to Aspyr, the distributor of Sims2 for Mac, this problem was reported last week.
Any news here as to when we can expect a fix/patch/updated download that will correct the problem? It seems to have something to do with being created on a Rosetta program (whatever that is!
Any info that anyone might have would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks - I appreciate the information. According to a multitude of gaming sites including MacFixIt, "We continue to report on a number of significant issues apparent after the QuickTime 7.6 update. The most widely reported issues concern the inability to launch various games and use some system add-ons. Games and add-ons broken Several users have reported problems launching videogames after the QuickTime 7.6 update. Afflicted titles include Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005, Call of Duty 2, The Sims 2 and Roller Coaster Tycoon" (http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20090125215418693)
Not a gamer really, but do enjoy winding down with some Sims2. Was going to try and downgrade (impossible I know) to Tiger OSX but am told I can't do it! I'm going to have to call Mac Tech Support on this one I guess.
    Thanks for your help

  • HT1420 More information on "authorizationing your computer".

Click on the "show menu bar" and the menu will show on your itunes. Then you will see store. The "store" drop down box will have "authorization". Hope this helps.

I had this same problem but then I went here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL27
And downloaded quicktime and the problem was solved, but if you don't have leopard you may need to look somewhere else; try searching for "quicktime 7.5.5 for (insert version - ex. tiger)"
The only problem I faced was when I opened iTunes it said I need quicktime 7.6 to watch video, but it works for music now so I'm leaving it

  • Can't capture video using iSight camera in QuickTime 7.4 (92)

OK, I see that there are plenty of "bugs" with Quicktime Version 7.4 (92), but I don't see the problem I am having, posted anywhere. Here goes...
I cannot capture video using my [Firewire] iSight camera on my CoreDuo MacMini. I definitely used to be able to do this. When I go to File>New Movie Recording, I get a back/blank Movie Recording window and that's it. I click on the Red/Record button and nothing happens. The timer doesn't even advance. Just sits there. When I try to stop the recording, I get the following message:
*"Recording failed because no data was received.*
*Make sure that the media input source is turned on and playing."*
I can still capture audio, although had some problems and had to "downgrade" to version 7.3.x and subsequently reinstalled 7.4. Now the audio works but still no video.
    A few things:
    1. YES, the iSight camera works - I can use it in iMovie, iChat, Photobooth, etc. - for both video and audio.
    2. As I mentioned, I tried "downgrading" (using "Pacifist") but still no video.
    3. I re-installed Version 7.4 and the audio problems cleared up, but again, still unable to capture video.
    3. All software updates installed.
    Any ideas???
    Thanks!

"As I mentioned, I tried "downgrading" (using "Pacifist") but still no video."
See QuickTimeKirk’s posting in the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1357579&tstart=0
    Try the following:
    Trash com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
    It's located in your account:
    HD/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
Delete the file, restart (a new .plist will be created) and quicktime hopefully will work again w/o doing an Archive & Install.
+If you want to do an A&I:+
Do an archive and install of your OS from the OS disc. Stop at the QT upgrade you need.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301270 Scroll down to "Archive and Install”
IMPORTANT: Maker sure you select "preserve user preferences and data" when you performed the A&I?
    Good luck!

    hi k3kristaaa!

    hmmmmmmmm.
you're actually getting an odd mix of symptoms here for an "error-message-free" itunes launch suppression.
the "flash" of the license screen is associated with Qoologic adware. but if you had that, your quicktime shouldn't be launching.
with the Norton Internet Security 2005 launch suppression problems, folks can sometimes get their QT to launch, but that isn't typically associated with the "flash".
so i'm going to doublecheck a few things before proceeding.
    (1) are you getting an error message or no error messages whatsoever? if you're getting an error message, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.
    (2) have a look in your TEMP directory. typically to do that you'll need to adjust your view settings on the PC. for instructions, see the "Empty your Temp directory and restart" section in this document:
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
... do you see a seven character filename with a .tmp extension in there? the first three characters will be letters. the last four will be numbers or the letters A through F.
(we're checking here for a W32.Pinfi infection, which can produce error-message-free itunes launch failures with an erratic mix of symptoms.)
    love, b
