Quicktime 7.1.2 HE-AAC problem

Since the Quicktime 7.1.2 upgrade, there is an issue with VLC and mp4 HE-AAC, where the audio will not play in streaming (and possibly non-streaming) media files. mp2 HE-AAC works fine.
I haven't seen a workaround for this yet, so if anyone knows of one it would be great.
Several Mac users of StreamTV suffered this problem, and the only fix was switching the feed to mp2 HE-AAC.

Welcome to the wonderful screwed up world of QT!
Every time they fix one issue, it causes some other problem.
I'm stuck with a version of QT 7.0.? that goofs up the capture function on my FCP. As long as I boot up the computer with the camera attached by firewire, and then go straight to FCP and open the project, and then go straight to capture, it will work. However, if you do anything else, before this, FCP will not capture any video! This is a known issue with QT, and it looks to me like they would be more concerned with getting QT to function with FCP and the other professional programs that a lot of us out here make our living with every day!!!!!!
Instead, they are worried about functionality with a consumer program like IDVD.
If I had been able to bill for all the hours I've spent in grief over QT and the issues it has, I could just retire and not work anymore!!!!!!!
PLEASE GET THIS POS CALLED QT Fixed!!!!!!!!!!

  • Relation between QuickTime 7.1.1 and AirPort problems

I've read a few thread talking of relations between
the last QuickTime 7.1.1 update and problems with AirPort
in one way or the opposite.
As this looked quite hard to explain I thoroughly checked
the QuickTime 7.1.1 update package and I can tell everyone for
    sure:
it doesn't include a bit that could interfere with the
    AirPort driver or software
You could double check it for yourself with the following
    steps:<pre>
    1. within "Software Update...", select "QuickTime 7.1.1"
and select "Update > Download Only"
    2. in a Terminal or xterm window, type the following
    commands:
    my_mac$ cd /Library/Packages/QuickTime711.pkg/Contents
    my_mac$ gzcat Archive.pax.gz | pax | egrep -i 'air|802'
    my_mac$ cd Resources
    my_mac$ egrep -i 'air|802' cleanup-list InstallationCheck
    my_mac$</pre>
Then, if your AirPort was "apparently" broken or repaired
just after the QuickTime 7.1.1 update, this was simply
due to the restart of your system.

If you've got quicktime pro working with 7.1.3, count yourself lucky considering all the reports about 7.1.5 problems. I was about to download QT Pro when I started reading the reviews. Most of them were bad. Is it working for you with 7.1.3, especially on creating media files? Do you use it with Final Cut Pro? I'd appreciate your feedback.

Mac OS X 10.6 includes QuickTime versions 10.0 and 7.6.3. The QuickTime 7 player will only be present if a QuickTime Pro key was present at the time of installation, or if specified as part of a custom install, or individually downloaded:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/dl923
Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link  even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.
(Only QuickTime Player 7.6.3 or 7.6.6 can be updated to "Pro".)
iMovie does not, AFAIK, use QT 10.

  • Quicktime Video on an LCD Projector Problems & Refresh Rate?

I'm having an issue and don't have a lot of experience with this but hopefully someone has some insight.
When i play back video (formats including DV, DV50, HDV, PRORES422 / interlaced or progressive / frame rates of 23.98 or 29.97) in full screen using Quicktime Player (version 7.4.5) and Present (Shift CMD F) to a projector, the video plays and looks good, with the exception of during certain portions of the video (generally, with a lot of motion), i see either a flicker or what appears to be a scan line, tear, or a trace that scrolls vertically up the image. The flickering/trace is consistent with regard to a particular portion of the video, though when i adjust the refresh rate for the projector, the behavior of the flicker or scrolling trace changes (say at 60hz, it scrolls slowly up vs 85hz where i see mostly flickering/tearing of the image or multiple traces scrolling up). I've tried 3 different projectors, and every combination of screen resolution and refresh rate with no success.
I should point out that when i play these videos full screen on a cinema display (20in or 23in) i don't see this behavior at all.
So, i have a few specific questions:
    1. Is anyone familiar with this behavior and any solutions?
    2. The projector is connected with a VGA cable and DVI adapter. Might a DVI cable resolve the issue? Is the behavior a result of the analog input? (The cinema displays are connected via DVI and don't exhibit the behavior)
    3. If it is a projector issue, any recommendations on a good projector for presenting video played back from a computer?
Thanks in advance for your help. If i've posted in the incorrect forum, please do direct me to the right place.
    Shane

Just a fast reply... something to think about...
Use 60hz, most lcd are 60hz. Check you resolution specs for the projector. If the native resolution is 800x600 use that setting if higher use that.....
If your using the lcd as a secondary display try setting the main display to the same specs. Sometime a mismatch between the two displays can cause problems.
Go with the lcd spec settings that's the main priority and the main display isn't.

  • Quicktime X and 7 aspect ratio problems

I have scoured the net and not come up with a single solution to this issue.
I have hundreds of music videos, home videos etc in Quicktime 7 format. The ratio of these files varies at a pixel level, but are corrected in Q7 size feature.
It's not just an anamorphic issue, as many videos are cropped from a non anamorphic 4:3 'letter boxed' source.
Now QX does not display them correctly at all, which until recently wasn't the end of the world, but from the last update, iTunes began using the X ratio as opposed to the correct adjusted ratio, so music videos in iTunes, QX, the iPad, you name it, the videos created this way do not display correctly.
That basically is every video on my Mac created from the late 90's to recently.
Any ideas, solutions? How on earth can Apple do something so amateurish, and why is there no major uproar.

So what you're saying is, Apple are telling me "thank you for your loyalty in using our hardware since 1988, and building up a video collection based on our software, but we've decided to do a version of Quicktime that ignores the size tag you have being using for the last 14 years (I started video work on Quicktime in 1997), and screw any videos you did to this point, unless they had square pixels?"
Not exactly. I believe that what they are saying is that QT is growing old. The technology on which is is based was fine for the codecs and techniques of its time, but video technology is constantly changing and it is no longer practical or possible to keep making updates and patches that don't, in and of themselves, create new, more serious problems than they solve. QT X is based on technology designed to make this process of evolution easier and it is likely we will see many new changes over the coming decade. However, in the meantime, they have not done away with QT 7 or Front Row, both of which continue to display your files correctly even under Snow Leopard. I personally continue to use QT 7—mainly because I have it keyed for "Pro" use and prefer its functionality to the what I call "Not quite ready for prime time" version represented by QT X which likely appeals to first time Mac users.
New videos are fine, I just encode them to square pixels anyway and ignore any PAR nonsense at the encode stage, but then if the PAR value is what they are using now, why not allow an option in QX to set that, so at the very least I could resize the old videos to correct format.
Not sure if Apple would be willing to provide what amounts to developmental support for an application they are phasing out. Still, it wouldn't hurt to ask. If enough people should request such an enhancement, they might be willing to at least consider the possibility.
Re-encoding them is just not an option, incurring further loss, on videos that in some cases are already marginal.
While I stated that corrections are normally made during the encoding process, it isn't the only method of setting the PAR value. Unfortunately, it is the most accurate method.
My point with anamorphic is that it will simply change 4:3 to 16:9 if there were some option to hit a check button.
Actually, using modern encoders, you can utilize any custom PAR setting desired but I am usually more interested in other aspect ratios like 1.66:1, 1.85:1, 2.40:1, and 2.35:1 since most of my work is centered on the conversion of movies for use on my TV devices.
More flexibility is needed, especially from a platform that is supposed to be pro. Ever tried formatting videos for a vertically placed Plasma for exhibition work, on a video file that isn't square pixel?
Not as uncommon as you might think. I also layer over still or video backgrounds to frame the main video and fill the unused device display area.
I have videos for example that are 800 x 400 (due to an original source, or a crop from the source, but view at 4:3 with the size setting, as they should. Now they look ridiculous displaying at 2:1, and there is no way to change it.
I would normally employ masking here to avoid one level of re-compression.
The size option allowed it to be displayed as you wanted it to, after encode.
More importantly, the Size (Scale) option allowed you to avoid having to re-encode the file since it can be saved back to the original file container (assuming no other changes were made the forces a re-encoding of the file).
It worked, it was done as Apple wanted, due to the size option being the only way to do to non-square pixels, and now they say, nah, we're not doing that anymore?
You seem to be forgetting that when QuickTime was initially introduced almost 20 years ago, users did not have to worry about scalability options, low-compression, high data rate broadcast standards or anamorphic DVDs because there weren't any such work flows for the Apple/Mac platforms of that era nor could they handle them anyway.
So basically Quicktime now contains no ability to format non-square pixels, unless it is done at the encode?
True, but as hinted previously, Apple and QuickTime isn't the only game in town. Based on your question, I went back and played around with Subler. Had been told that this app would allow the user to embed PAR value but was never able to get it to work. Finally managed to get a 720x480 (636x480) encoded movie trailer to play back as an 852x480 display in both QT 7 and QT X on my Snow Leopard system. This proves that it can be done without re-encoding, but there do seem to be some limitations. For instance, since I normally encode using macro-block 16 dimensions increments and Subler seems to like increments of 12 pixels, some PAR and Size target values may vary by 4 pixels. In any case, you may want to Google the app and give it a try. You still have to process each file but not actually re-compress the data.
It is barely believable that they would do that.
Please excuse me, but I do have to chuckle here. It seems as if you feel that Apple has taken something away from you. I, on the other hand, tend to view it as not missing something I never really had. I do, however, agree that it would be nice if both applications were able to access/change both PAR values and display size values for better compatibility between old and new technologies.

FINALLY all the problems within iTunes 7.5 as described by so many users seem to be completely solved from today by the very new version of QuickTime, check for update 7.3.1!
AND the cd-drive doesn't rev up so frightening any longer!
    AGAIN a happy Apple user/fan! :-))

I encountered a kernal panic for CPU 0) unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerBook 5,2")
I believe that driver is munged on the HD, or the HD is munged, seen several just like that on 2.5" drives, never on a 3.5"er btw.
If you can copy/retrieve your important data, I think you need to Zero the internal HD & start over, though if Permissions get repaired on it, you might try a reinstall of the latest big Combo Update... 2nd an Archive & install.

  • QuickTime can't play H264+AAC file??

    I have a H264+AAC file,
it played on VLC player is ok,
but it can't play on QuickTime,
have any tool can detect what's wrong?
    is it incorrect file format?

Maybe you can learn a bit more about this mysterious movie. In quicktime (and probably VLC too) there is an Inspector (in Quicktime it's invoked by Window->Inspector or Command-I. It may provide more information about the nature of the video even if it's not playing normally.
If you can post a screen shot of an Inspector window maybe we can be more helpful.

  • QuickTime 7.6.4 QTCF.dll Problem

Hi, I am getting the following error when trying to use Nero Showtime:

Now I know it's is not the Nero software as this worked fine and has not been updated.
My PC is running Vista 32bit Business Edition.
iTunes was updated to 9.0.2 and QuickTime to 7.6.4 and now I am having problems playing video files.
I have searched extensively and have not yet found a solution to this problem, some have suggested copying QTCF.dll to Windows/System32 but that did not work.
    Any advice would be appreciated

I also started getting a SQLite3.dll error about the same time as I installed the new iTunes.
I can't open the root directory with iPhone Explorer, even though I have a jailbroken phone. When I close the program, a msg is displayed "Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. Process ID=0x978(2424), Thread ID=0x820(2080)" with option to debug.
FYI, both iTunes and IPhone explorer worked on my computer at work (32 bit windows) that appears to be running the same version of windows.
Lets try to at least get the SQLite3.dll error sorted, spot.
Try the technique basiam gives in the following post:

Not sure if that's going to help with the other issues though.

  • Quicktime Windows 7 64bit folder permission problem

    Hi!
I am trying to install quicktime (actually just need iTunes..but then iTunes needs qt), but it fails. There seems to be a problem with the folder C:\Program Files(x86)\QuickTime\ - Quick Time wants to write the file QTTask.exe, but complains that it does not have permission to do so. Same thing happens with \PropertyPanels\PanelHelperBase.qpa
I have tried deleting all Apple programs (in the order suggested in the support forum) and also tried to delete the temp folder. That did not work.
I have tried to manually adjust the permissions of the QuickTime folder - no effect.
I have run the installation file with admin rights and with different compatibility modes to no effect.
I consider myself to be an experienced user - able to solve most problems - but now I am stuck. I need some input / fresh ideas on how to tackle the problem.
This is very annoying as I cannot sync iPhone/iPad/iPod while iTunes is not running - due to the stupid (sorry) idea of only have your device linked to one library.
    Please help.
    Thanks!

There seems to be a problem with the folder C:\Program Files(x86)\QuickTime\ - Quick Time wants to write the file QTTask.exe, but complains that it does not have permission to do so. Same thing happens with \PropertyPanels\PanelHelperBase.qpa
    That's consistent with disk/file damage.
Let's first try running a chkdsk over your C drive. There's Windows 7 instructions in the following document. Select both "automatically fix file system errors" and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you choose to go about things). You should be prompted to schedule the scan to run on restart. That sort of scan of the C drive should take a long time ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan:
http://www.w7forums.com/use-chkdsk-check-disk-t448.html (How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk))
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, does an itunes install go through properly this time?

  • QuickTime 7.4 has a major problem

I recently installed the recommended updates to iTunes & QuickTime player. This meant I installed QuickTime 7.4 but the only thing did was remove the sound from my videos, whether they were already downloaded or if they were just the previews in iTunes Store. The visual was fine but there was no longer any sound. As an added puzzle my music played fine.
Someone at apple suggested uninstalling QuickTime 7.4 & then re-installing it, which I did but nothing changed, still no sound on my videos.
I have scoured this site for advice but only found other people with problems which were similar but not identical to my own & all relating to QuickTime 7.4
So, I decided to uninstall 7.4 & re-install an older version, I chose 7.3.1 & guess what? It worked! I now have sound on my videos again.
Having said all that....someone at Apple needs to investigate this & find out why QuickTime 7.4 is causing so many problems, then fix it so that it doesn't!
Come on Apple, Steve Jobs didn't get where he is today with poor quality products!

I think there are MANY of us who experienced that same issue...I have found several threads pertaining to this issue. I too had to uninstall the new version of quick time and reinstall 7.3.1
Like you, that solved the issue, however, I think I read that movie rentals won't work on 7.3.1 (I don't rent on itunes anyways)
I hope Apple fixes the issue with 7.4 soon

  • Quicktime 7.0.3 AVI export problem

I recently agreed to an automatic update of Quicktime, to 7.0.3.. After that my exports from FCP PAL to AVI was hit by major problems. Every other second or so a frame would freeze, and thereby making it unusable by my VideoToaster unit. After making the same exports at anothers editors laptop G4, and experiencing the same problem I had to downgrade to Quicktime 7.0.1. That solved the problem. Any other out there with the same problem ?r

Nothing wrong with QuickTime 7.0.3 (or you'd see more posts).
Open your Utilities folder and then the Audio MIDI Setup app.
Set the Audio Output /Format to 44100 Hz.
Quit and restart QT Player and see if all is well.

  • MPEG4 - AAC Problem!

Hey guys, Firstly i'm not the best person with Computers so excuse me if i've done something majorly stupid.
Bought a new phone today - Samsung D600; if you're wondering. Anyway, it doesn't support MPEG4 files, which is what the songs in my iTunes library are currently in. It does support AAC, so i thought i was in luck. However when i convert songs into AAC I just get a duplicate of the first file, still in MPEG4.
Any ideas? Anybody else have this problem? All help is appreciated, including other ways in which to convert files.
    Thanks in advance...

All music files from the iTunes Music Store are protected and can not be converted to another format. The file suffix "m4p" means "MPEG4 Protected."
Files imported from audio CDs are AAC files with an mp4 file suffix by default. They are unprotected, industry standard AAC files, and should not need to be converted if the phone supports AAC.

  • Serious QuickTime 7.3.1 (Tiger) update problems

I installed the QuickTime 7.3.1 Tiger update on a PowerBook G4 1.2GHz running OS X v10.4.11 that is well-maintained and has worked flawlessly for months.
I assume the update installed properly, but I left the room for dinner. When I returned and awoke the sleeping computer, I was informed that the updater was successfully installed and prompted to Retsart. Upon restarting, the updated PowerBook would not pass the gray Apple screen -- it simply froze at the spinning wheel (I probably waited about 10 minutes) and tried restarting several times.
    - During several subsequent Restart attempts, the updated computer would not boot into Safe Mode (depressing Shift key during startup).
    - The PowerBook would not boot from an external FireWire drive with OS X installed.
    - I then inserted and booted from an OS X v10.4 install DVD and launched Disk Utility, which found the drive. In several attempts, Repair Permissions "quickly "lost contact with the disk" being repaired. Disk First Aid found no problems to repair.
    - Next, I tried "Safe Boot" mode again, and this time, I encountered a kernal panic for CPU 0) unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerBook 5,2"). I may have inadvertently let go of the Shift key for a moment during this attempt, so...
    - I tried "Safe Boot" mode yet again. Same kernal panic as above.
Now what? Target Disk Mode? I'd like to try to manually remove some suspect files as noted here (http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060322080433175) by MacFixIt... Any other ideas?

  • Does Quicktime 7.3.1. have capture problems?

Are there still problems capturing video on FCP or Xpress using Quicktime 7.3.1. or later?
I'm using Quicktime 7 which does work, but for some time any newer version of Quicktime would not capture video more than 5 mins.
    Has that problem been solved?

    Carolyn,
It's not certain you will have problems. If you already have FCE 3.5.1 installed, try it on a new project. It will either work or not. For what it's worth, because you're running Leopard (10.5.x), I'd suggest upgrading to FCE4 regardless.
Since you're already on 10.5.5, QT 7.5.5 and iTunes8, it would be painful to try downgrading QuickTime and iTunes to previous versions, so I don't recommend that alternative.
