Quicktime 7.1.3 distorted video playback

I am currently running itunes 7.0.1.8 with quicktime 7.1.3 for windows. Video playback with quicktime both seperately and within itunes is distorted and no picture can be seen, the distortion is mostly pink in colour. There is no problem with sound. Any help would be much appreciated.

Open the QuickTime Control Panel and click the "Advanced" tab.
Click the radio button for "Safe mode" (not DirectX) and try the file again.

  • Iphone 5 video playback problems over quicktime?

    ive recently got a new laptop, pre windows 8, and downloaded quicktime pro in order to play my iphone videos right side up because windows media player will play them upside down alot of the time. something i immeadiately noticed was that all my videos from my iphone 5, when played back via quicktime, have a big judder/skip in them every 2 seconds whereis all my iphone 4 videos playback no problem. the few videos i have that are recorded right side up from my iphone 5, because of orientation of the phone during recording, play perfectly fine on windows media player so this this leads me to believe it is a quicktime issue. i have updated to the latest quicktime just a few days ago with hopes of it being corrected but no such luck. im curious if anyone else is having this same problem or knows a fix? also if anyone knows how to flip videos with quicktime so i can just watch them on windows media would be great also. i found a write up how to do it but everytime i try it, after i save it it just reverts back to its orgional orientation. thanks for any help, Jamie

    Add me to the list of people having this problem.
    I'm running Macbook on 10.5.8. Quicktime is 7.6.9, in case this has any bearing on things.
    OK......I just searched a few places and came up with this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perian
    It's called Perian, and it's one of a few different options you could use to solve this problem....I just installed it (free), and now the videos play without a hitch. It's a plug-in for Quicktime.  There are others that can supposedly do the same thing--look around and give it a shot.
    (Also, supposedly this Perian is no longer in open development, and may not work with the newest Quicktime update for the newest Macs, but, like I said, there are other options out there that may work for you instead.)
    I have a feeling my problem may have been due to my particular Quicktime/Macbook setup being a bit outdated, but who knows?
    Good luck!

  • Quicktime 7.6 video playback issues

    I upgraded to quicktime 7.6 yesterday and is has caused video playback issues when in higher performance with my Macbook pro. I am trying to play 1080p footage in the h.264 compression codec and it is now stuttering. It played fine in my previous quicktime player before the upgrade and it seems to play fine in the better battery setting. The problem occurs with the 9600 nvidia chip but the 9400 works okay. This is troublesome because the 9600 should out preform the 9400.

    Update: The problem only happens with MacOS 10.5.6. Running the pre-installed MacOS 10.5.5 the 9400M and 9600M displays movies smoothly using QuickTime 7.6. Disabling hardware-accelerated playback by deleting the "AppleVAH264HW.component" in "/System/Library/Quicktime" also "solves" the problem.

  • MPEG-2 file with AC3 5.1 audio: no audio (neither in current video playback, nor after encode), but plays okay in QuickTime X

    Mavericks 10.9.3
    Latest Mac Mini, 8GB RAM, two 256GB SSD
    Compressor 4.1.1
    I have an MPEG-2 file with AC3 5.1 audio which plays in QuickTime X as expected.
    I have a second MacBook Pro with Compressor 4.1.1, where the audio is fine - both as current video playback of the source, and post-encode using Apple Devices HD (best quality) setting.
    However in the Mac Mini Compressor there is no audio (neither in current video playback of the source, nor after encode using Apple Devices HD (best quality) setting).
    Troubleshooting
    - main difference between machines is the Mac Mini has Elgato software (EyeTV and Game Capture HD)
    - I've checked the QuickTime components are same on both machines, except for EyeTV audio component on Mac Mini
    - there are no plug-in audio components
    - I've repaired permissions using Disk Utility
    - I moved Compressor to trash, deleted compressor plist files, and reinstalled

  • Video Playback Issues after Downloading iTunes 10.4.1 & Quicktime

    After downloading v. 10.4.1, video playback framerate is terrible. Voices are choppy & out of sync with dialogue. The music wasn't necessarily affected but, can here slight distortion. This hasn't been an issue until downloading the latest software version. Then iTunes crashes. Am I the only one this is happening to?

    You may consider updating your iTunes to the latest version to fix bugs.

  • Green Screen Distortion on Movie and Video Playback

    When I play videos downloaded from iTunes, be in previews, rentals of purchases, they all have the same issue!
    The audio is fine, but the video playback is distorted beyond comprehension. The screen flickers green with purple patches (similar to the effect when a display cable is loose at the back of your tv.
    This issue only occurs in iTunes.

    nevermind, after playing with it a while i figured it out, i just created an album in iphoto and set the desktop background to cycle through the photos every 5 seconds.

  • Quicktime pro recording video playback too fast

    I'm using Quicktime Pro to make a video recording with audio using the "Best" settings in the preferences (i.e. h264 encoding). When playing these videos back, the audio sounds good, but the video framerate seems almost x2 the speed as it should be. Below is the output of ffmpeg on one such movie. The output points to the fact that there's a problem with framerates, but I'm not really sure how to interpret it towards getting a solution. Any ideas on how to fix this so that we get audio video sync'd up and at the right speed?

  • Video playback from Final Cut Pro studders over HDMI

    I have a problem playing back video from FCP. The video output will studder during horizontal pans when I output via HDMI. The audio output is not affected.
    I have been playing video successfully using FireWire for output in FCP, however, my new video switcher system will not support FireWire output.
    What are some possible causes of this problem?
    System stats:
    * Mac Mini (2010 model)
    * 8GB RAM
    * OS X 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard)
    * Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 (Final Cut Studio 3)

    @ Studio X : The files were originally created with Final Cut Pro, rendered out to QuickTime, then are being played back with Final Cut Pro. The file that has the most noticable studdering is a 60-minute timeline sequence in Final Cut. All files are being stored and played back from the Mac Mini's internal hard drive. Everything was originally shot on DV and formatted for a 4:3 aspect ratio.
    @ Shane Ross : Are there any settings in the MacOS or FCP where I can improve the HDMI video signal? Or do you know of / have any experience with Firewire to HDMI converters? Unfortunately, my new signal path relies on HDMI from the video playback.
    My current setup uses the Firewire output, which is then converted to composite video & analog audio using a pair of ageing DV tape decks. That setup is becoming troublesome due to age.

  • Multiple video playback issues

    Hi All,
    I would dearly appreciaty any light anyone could shed on this issue - I have run into a couple of Flash bugs that have stumped me for quite a while, and my deadline is aproaching fast.
    Essentially, I would like to play back 3 reasonably high res videos (On2 VP6-S) simultaneously in one Flash App (using flash.video, netstream and netconnect - code only). Unfortunately, when I do this, the video playback drops a lot of frames, however, CPU usage does not go much above 50% - spread over both cores. I'm using a Core2Duo. If I play the same 3 videos simultaneously in 3 separate flash apps (FP10), they play much better (and use close to 100% CPU). I even tried creating it as an AIR app with 3 separate windows (NativeWindow), but that made little difference. I have lodged this as a bug via the Flash Bug Reporting System (http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-2341).
    And yes, I do need to be doing something as crazy as this - it is for a pretty cool kiosk app, so I know what hardware will be used (and it has a good Graphics Card).
    One promising workaround appeared to be playing back a single NetStream in multiple Video instances, as it is NetStream that does the decoding, so I could decode once and present it in 3 places. Two of my video objects are actually the same flv (on different monitors), so there would be a 33% saving right there. If necessary, I could encode both flvs into a single 1920x1200 flv (I've checked - it would play back ok) and then use video.mask to show the relevant bits.
    However, another bug has been reported at http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-920 saying this does not work - Video in the object that last called attachNetStream(ns) will play, all others will freeze. They do mention a workaround that gets both videos to play - reset the size of freezed videos on ENTER_FRAME event. However, I cannot get this workaround to work - my first video is empty (not even frozen).
    So there are a couple of things I would love any feedback on. Firstly, if anyone has insights on how I could get this to work. Secondly, if anyone could try the "multiple videos on one netStream with workaround" code below (simply copy, paste and point to a relevant flv) and let me know if it works and the versions of software they used, I'd be very thankful.
    ---------------Code Begins-------------
    import flash.events.Event;
    import flash.media.Video;
    import flash.net.NetConnection;
    import flash.net.NetStream;
    showRedrawRegions(true); // both the placeholders and the entire window redraws every frame.
    // When only video1 is attached, only video1's region is redrawing
    // When both videos are attached, both video's regions are redrawing, BUT video1 is empty.
    trace ("Capabilities.version = " + Capabilities.version); // = WIN 10,0,22,91 // in Flash CS4 10.0.2
    //var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection( null ); // Got Eror: 1137: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected no more than 0.
    var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
    nc.connect(null);
    // Connect nc here ...? Unnecessary in this case?
    var ns:NetStream = new NetStream(nc);
    ns.client = new Object(); // Simplest way to deal with cuePoints and metaData by doing nothing. For more, see http://blogs.adobe.com/pdehaan/2006/07/playing_back_flvs_with_actions_1.html
    var stream:String = "test.flv";
    var video1:Video = new Video(); // Defaults to size of 320x240
    var video2:Video = new Video(); // Defaults to size of 320x240
    video2.x = 320;
    addChild(video1);
    addChild(video2);
    ns.play(stream);
    video1.attachNetStream(ns);
    video2.attachNetStream(ns);
    // PROBLEM: Video in the object that last called attachNetStream(ns) will play, all others will freeze.
    // See WORKAROUND below for solution:
    //WORKAROUND to stop the first split stream from freezing:
    addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, onEnterFrame);
    function onEnterFrame(e:Event){
    video1.width = 320;
    video1.height = 240;
    trace ("video1.videoWidth = " + video1.videoWidth);
    trace ("video2.videoWidth = " + video2.videoWidth);
    // When only video1 is attached, video1.videoWidth = 1920, video2.videoWidth = 0
    // When both videos are attached, video1.videoWidth = 0, video2.videoWidth = 1920
    ---------------Code Ends-------------
    Letting me know what exact versions of the following software was used would help a lot:
    - Windows/OS (e.g. XP SP3).
    - App code was written in. (e.g. Flash CS4 IDE 10.0.2, Flash Develop 3.0.1).
    - App code was compiled in. (e.g. Flash CS4 IDE 10.0.2, Flex SDK 3.4.0.6955).
    - Type and Version of Flash Player used (e.g. Standalone Debug Flash Player v10,0,22,91).
    The versions I used are listed above.
    Lastly, for what it is work, I found three interesting/informative results, but they didn't help me:
    - When only video1 is attached, video1.videoWidth = 1920, video2.videoWidth = 0
      When both videos are attached, video1.videoWidth = 0, video2.videoWidth = 1920
    - When only video1 is attached, only video1's region is redrawing
      When both videos are attached, both video's regions are redrawing, BUT video1 is empty.
    - var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection( null ); // Got Eror: 1137: Incorrect number of arguments. Expected no more than 0.
      So I had to change it to:
        var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
        nc.connect(null);
      Does this mean my NetConnection class is different and maybe incompatible with this workaround?
    Many, many thanks,

    How to view/hear pretty much everything:
    Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
    Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
    In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
    In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
    The world should now be your oyster!
    You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Why is video playback continually stuttering after the Mountain Lion 10.8.2 update?

    Since updating to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 video playback in iTunes and QuickTime is unwatchable. The video stutters constantly then plays catch up to the sound. I'm running a 2011 Mac Mini i5 2.3 GHz and 8 Gb of RAM. Anyone know how to roll back the update to a working version of Mountain Lion?

    Hello, you'd have to reinstall 10.8.0 or 10.8.1, but...
    See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
    Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
    How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
    Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
    In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?
    One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
    If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
    Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
    Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

    am using a Dell XPS GEN 5 PC with Windows Vista Premium Edition as the current OS installed. I have latested up date for Itunes and QuickTime (7.1.6) Installed. I have recently bought and downloaded 3 of the Original Star Trek Tv Shows from Itunes. When I try and play one of them, they don't work. The Screen comes up, the show starts, then stops. Sometimes the sound keeps on playing, and then stops. Sometimes it just dosent even come on. I'm guessing (as a highly advanced Windows PC User) That this ia a "video/playback issue, related to a Apple/Vista Compatibility problem. I would like help solving this problem.

    hi slideaway!
    my computer has a right proper meltdown, switching itself off and restarting to a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" sort of message.
    good lord. are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
    here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
    if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • Corrupt video playback in Kodi and black screen when emulating.

    Hi!
    I have a problem most likely related to each other. When I try to play back videos in Kodi the video just gets scrambled, it fast forwards very fast and looks generally corrupted and when I try to start a game in some emulator (for example mupen64plus) the screen just turns black.
    Kodi seems to work really well otherwise, it got sounds in the menus and the menus are smooth when navigating. Same with emulators, the GUI (mupen64plus doesn't have one) works well and I can navigate the menus and everything but as soon as I start a game the screen turns black with no sound.
    I tried OpenELEC (which is a distribution that has the main purpose of running Kodi) and the video playback works just fine. Sadly it's not very emulator friendly.
    The packages I have installed are: "xf86-video-ati" (dependence: "mesa"), "xorg-server" (dependence: "mesa-libgl") and "xorg-xinit".
    And the way that I the programs are usually from .xinitrc (example: exec kodi-standalone) and then xinit.
    Hardware:
    Motherboard: ASRock FM2A78M-ITX+ mITX
    APU: AMD A10-7800 (the GPU part is GCN 1.1 aka Sea Islands)
    All connected through HDMI
    Any help would really be appreciated!

    If you use windows (havent checked on mac but it might work)
    Disable Direct3D acceleration in the player you are using.
    If you use VLC media player, Go to preferences, Video, And under output, change from default to "Direct 2D video output"
    If you use Quicktime, Downgrade to Quicktime 7.6 or upgrade to quicktime 7.7.3 and Go to
    Edit --> Preferences -->Quicktime preferences.
    Under that, go to advanced tab, and uncheck "Enable Direct3d acceleration" (3'rd box)
    Fixed the problem for me
    You're welcome

  • Slow/unresponsive video playback, media pending, after CC'14 October update

    Encountering a strange issue after the October update. It's a project carried over from the previous CC'14 version, nothing crazy, about an 18 minute timeline of video/.mov clips straight off a JVC GY-HM600U with simple RGB curves/masks on some clips, some Prores422 clips of graphics exported out of After Effects, a couple nested sequences featuring simple text w/ cross dissolves, and a lower 3rd Quicktime with RGB+Alpha. There are some linked AE comps in the project but not in the sequence. Ran fine before update. Here's my system, obviously no CUDA so Mercury Playback is software only:
    Upon opening the project everything is fine, playback is smooth, scrubbing from beginning to end no problem. After a period of time, 10-15 minutes? Suddenly video playback hangs up, with audio continuing to play after . Opening a clip in the Source window displays the Media Pending thumbnail, after 15 seconds it seems to find the media but again it's only a still frame with video hanging up. Then audio seems to hang up and I can't do anything. I can still manipulate the UI but scrubbing through the timeline is completely unresponsive, pressing play does nothing.
    Quitting the program seems to freeze it, the window closes but it stays lit up in my dock and shows Application Not Responding, causing me to force quit.
    A system reboot yesterday seemed to clear the issue up for the remainder of the work day but it's back today. Not sure where the issue is coming from, but seems like some kind of memory leak or something similar since it seems to be a gradual degradation in performance. I'll have to roll back to a previous version to finish up this project until things are fixed.

    Hello,
    Many thanks for your very long reply and your interest in my problems.
    I shall try to answer you :
    - 1) OS :  Windows 7 64 bits Pro SP1, french,
                     Version : 6.1.7601.18247 (Win7RTM)
                     Framework.NET : 4.0.30319.18408 built by : FX451RTMGREL)
                     DirectX : 11.0,
                     OpenGL : 6.1.7600.16385 (Win7_rtm.090713-1255).
    - 2) Yes the media pending goes away but after a couple of minutes (one
    year ago I was using PP CS6 and Encore CS6, I never had this problem
    even with very long files),
    - 3) Yes my GPU driver is updated (Nvidia GeForce 332.21 dated 12/19/2014).
    I never had thiese problems with PP CS6 + Encore CS6 and my projects
    built with these PP ans Encore version were with the same structure and
    length (in PP CS6 : sequences up to 45 minutes, in Encore CS6 chapters
    up to the same time).
    The difference between are in my hardware :
    - the RAM was upgraded from 12 GB to 24 GB,
    - the CPU was overclocked from 3,2 GHz (default) to 3,88 GHz).
    - 4) I shall try up to the disk burn to check if the problem is just due
    to display of "animated buttons".
    I hope my answer will be usefull for you.
    Regards,
    Jacques Gourier.

  • Why am I getting wavy, distorted video on a DVD made with iDVD?

    I made a DVD with iDVD 5 that has wavy, distorted video. It is watchable but you can clearly see that vertical lines are somewhat wavy whenever the camera pans across the scene. An up-down pan doesn’t distort the horizontal lines, however.
    The source video file doesn't display this waviness. Also, I created a DVD of the same video using a PC and the resultant DVD didn't display the waviness. The waviness occurs whether the DVD is played on the computer or a TV monitor with a standalone DVD player. From all this I conclude that it has to be a consequence of the iDVD5 burning process.
    Here’s some additional information: The PC burned the video from its original MPEG-2 format. The Mac burned the video from a .mov file that I created from the original MPEG-2 file using MPEG Streamclip. (I need to use MPEG Streamclip to restore (actually convert, I suppose) the audio as the source file has AC3 audio that doesn’t play in iMovie or Quicktime.) The resulting .mov file - when played with Quicktime before burning - does not exhibit the waviness, so I don't think the MPEG Streamclip conversion process is at fault.
    On the same DVD I also placed a different video from the same source. It doesn’t display any of the waviness that I get from the other video. The only difference between the videos is that this latter video – after the MPEG Streamclip processing - was chaptered in iMovie HD and then exported to iDVD as a .mov file. I’d hate to think that I have to run every video through iMovie to eliminate the waviness.
    So is this just an inexplicable defect or is there something that I might do differently to avoid the waviness that I’m getting in this video?
    Thanks, Robert

    Robert,
    To me, the red flag is that you've created a .mov file from Quicktime for import back into iDVD. A .mov file is generally a smaller formatted movie, typically only 320X240 pixels in size. This size movie, by default, would look perfect when played in QT. But, to go back to iDVD or iMovie, the movie must be expanded back to a 720X480 size movie (typically the DV stream that these programs want and need), so expanding will cause all sorts of distortion. Can you go back to your original MPEG2 source movie and get the movie info on it? You should be able to see the original size. If it is something like 640X480 or 720X480 then use QT to create a .DV file. This will maintain the original size.
