Quicktime 7.1.5 / CS2 issues?

I want to update my quicktime (currently 7.0.4) to the more recent version. I am afraid that this will create issues with Adobe CS2. Does anyone know if I can safely update or are there steps I should take before I attempt?
I had a tough time installing CS2 and I don't want to have to back-up and reinstall everything again.
Thanks!
iMac / MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I'm not sure if these steps had any effect or not but I removed version cue and then it updated ok.

  • Photoshop CS2 issues & Customer Relation's solution

    i bought a g5 quad in June 06 that failed in july 06. they were unable to resolve the issue and gave me a replacement machine.
    i was given a mac pro with 4GB of RAM and a terabyte of internal storage. the 2 oem 500GB Seagate 7200.10 hard drives took over 9+ hours to zero out: the apple store genius told me this was normal. i have since purchased 2 different hard drives. one of the same capacity which zero's out in under 2 hours. that number IS normal.
    Adobe Photoshop CS2 Bridge and Camera RAW have never worked properly on this machine since i got it, quitting all the time when renaming files or browsing my hard drive folders in Bridge. i was told that this is normal and that CS3 and Leopard will fix all this. then the CS3 Beta came out and the machine quits even with the new version.
    i contacted Adobe, they say it is my hardware. i went to the apple store and showed them the problem and was able to duplicate it on every mac pro in their store and they said it must be a software issue.
    i bought more RAM from apple. the machine works somewhat better now, but it still crashes in photoshop and adobe camera raw and bridge. i purchased lightroom and have looked at changing my workflow, and this program too quits intermittently.
    i called apple customer support again. they walked me through using a different user account. same issues. i asked to speak to customer relations. i got on the phone with the lady, and i asked if it was possible to send someone out to look at the machine since it is not working properly, and she said that it is not something they would do since it is not their problem. i asked if they would be able to help me decipher the crash logs so i can find out WHY the machine is crashing.
    her exact words were, "well, maybe you can sell it? if it is giving you all these problems and since it is not our hardware, it might be best for you to sell it and buy something that works."
    "sell it." i would like to say that "sell it" was not the answer i was looking for. i wasn't even mean to her. i was extremely polite and i got, "sell it" from customer relations. i hope none of you get "sell it"
    good luck to all of you.

    You use to use Windows but decided to move to Macs at some point, and not look or go back. And that the Quad G5 worked up until some point.
    When I got my Mac Pro back in late August/early Sept, I ran into some oddities that no one could help me with. Drivers from Lexmark for their laser printers. Suffice to say that I spent weeks if not month trying to track down why etc. and doing the "clean install" but ended up with the original install disk image.
    I'm always afraid if I am forced to install any drivers for now as a result.
    I updated SoftRAID (I thought) and ran into every driver and extension conflict possible, known and unknown.
    Clean install and avoided anything I could "live without" this time around, and it was stable. For a few days, any and every - and I mean absolutely anything I tried to launch, run or whatnot would CRASH.
    I was ready to point fingers. But at whom? ah! must be the Ramjet. Passes all tests, but there must be a gremlin and nothing is good enough to find the cause.
    System is now rock solid and stable.
    I don't know really what or why. And whether it was SMC reset (I wish they would paint the button in RED!) or zapping PRAM/NVRAM.
    I also installed Vista to see if it was OS X or hardware or not. But I never learned what is needed to really use and secure a Windows system - or troubleshoot it if it goes haywire. But you would.
    I have spent 40+ yrs tinkering with computers, and 20 with Macs. I think I still remember some of the troubleshooting days from 1990 hunting down shareware bugs.
    If it is hardware, it would fail running XP too, maybe? did you retain your license for and copies of Windows and CS2 or whatever you would use? (The Mac Pro really shines running Windows Vista from what I've seen).
    It doesn't take a lot to turn a Mac into a crash-prone system. There are some bugs even with the OS update installer itself it seems.
    Troubleshooting is as much art as science. Hunches based on what feels wrong with some sweat and guesses backed by some "CSI" sleuthing and detective work.
    Only Apple or Intel would know if they have had to come out with re-designed chips, a newer motherboard, or cpus. Or the AMB used on the Risers.
    As I said (5 pages ago?) a friend had a G5 Quad that would not run CS2 properly, was crashing etc. (and had on-site Care etc) and the latest logicboard (3rd) stopped the problems, CS2 runs faster and better, it doesn't crash, and the benchmarks show it.
    There are revisions to logic-boards. I read it takes 3-6 months to get a pattern of a problem, and another 3-6 months to redesign parts, manufacturing, testing, between engineering prototypes and manufacturing.
    I thought the whole idea of AppleCare was sort of the "care" in AppleCare. And to solve a problem.
    It would take someone with access to what engineering errata is going on. What changes were made to G5s. There were other problems with Quad it seems as well, heat, the liquid cooling components (there are two varieties).
    I don't have the stomach or temper to deal with customer service, phones, etc. But I would make an appointment (yes, again!). I don't know what terms there are for small business or customers to get premium care, probably not good.
    We had a mainframe with a bad memory card or bank. We thought. We also swapped out every part trying to get it fixed. We even had to keep the room temp colder and controlled humidity. A new system for us would have been lower maintenance, lower energy bill, less strain on a/c even. And smaller (so we didn't need to use as much floor space). But government can be "penny wise and pound foolish" in such matters.
    I know you are just getting familiar with things like "Onyx" and "Disk Warrior" and such. Those can be helpful.
    Crashing does tend to lead to more crashes. Mac OS X is not immune to side effects of what they can do. And usually you want to finish a project, not get sidelined.
    I wish you had a G5 Quad in there. Two systems. Maybe two G5s even if you have the work or so you can be running CS2 on one and CS3 on another. Or have a techie "gearhead" come in and test and insure that your systems are in working order. Something.
    It ain't normal. And it should get more than a "brush off."

  • Photoshop CS2 Issues After Latest Secuirty Update

    I am working on a Power Mac G5 with Mac OSX 10.4 and Adobe CS2. I do not know if it was the security update that caused these problems in Photoshop for me, but that was the only thing that had been installed around the time that the problems started happening.
    The issue is that when I have the Move Tool and several layers in groups. When I have a layer inside one of the groups highlighted and I want to move it, suddenly PS selects the whole group and moves it as well. I have checked to see if there were any sort of links to the layers and there are not.
    It is a weird issue and since this is a work machine it is very important to get PS working again. At the moment I have to work on a Windows machine to get things done.
    Thanks for any help that you can give me.

    Eric,
    Mac OS X 10.4? Or 10.4.11? Or...?
    Before running the security update, did you repair permissions? Run DiskWarrior? Try resetting the tool preferences, and/or Photoshop preferences?

  • CS2 issues, best version of Photoshop to use with AGS?, workarounds?

    It looks like there's some compatibility issues with AGS and CS1/CS2. What's the best version of Photoshop to use with AGS, and like everyone asks, anyone know of an update coming?
    My problem btw is that I'm generating many .gif images from 1 source .psd file, and the text alignment for horizontal left/right is not true to the original. The shift is off the canvas. Only center alignment stays true.
    My .psd file is only a background layer and a type layer. I once was able to save the .psd in ImageReady and output correctly, but that happened only once and wasn't able to replicate the results.
    Anyone know of way to preserve text alignment?

    Thanks for the response Bob. I'm going to try and track down Photoshop6 and give that a go. Just to fill this log up with more info, I thought I'd past this response which I wrote to someone else. Btw, I heard a rumor that Adobe may be releasing an update to AGS in the spring. Do you you know anything about that?
    Hey ###,
    Thanks for getting back to me. With AGS, our goal is to produce about 250k unique images based on a customers first name, which we will then merge into an email. We're able to produce the images using our data and technology, where just not able to maintain the accuracy of the intended creative. Below is a PSD which contains 2 layers, 1 text layer with effect and 1 solid color layer...
    http://images.ed4.net/images/htdocs/test/di/ditext.psd
    The output should look like this...
    http://images.ed4.net/images/htdocs/test/di/original.gif
    Instead, the text layer shifts off the canvas far to the left. On right alignment, I get the same results, just far to the right. Center alignment works fine. I didn't know if we should be keying in any additional commands to get this to line up right? Would Photoshop6 resolve this issue?

    Thanks in advance ###. I'd love to hear anything you know about a new AGS release.

  • Photoshop CS2 issues

    I am having a couple issues with Photoshop CS2. I am running CS2 Std on a HP XW4400 stock system with XP Pro SP2 and all the latest updates. CS2 Std has had all the available product updates applied.
    What is happening is the following:
    1. Photoshop will randomly crash with a generic application failure message. This can happen while doing just about anything in Photoshop from opening a file to clicking on a tool. The windows event viewer lists a generic application hang.
    2. Placing a jpg will not always work, sometimes I get the "no supported filter" message and sometimes it works.
    3. Saving as anything other than a PSD, EPS, or PDF will crash the save dialog(sometimes Photoshop) sometimes it works. When it crashes the dialog sometimes trying to save immediately after will work.
    I have done tried the following to try to resolve the issue:
    Checked for new updates
    Checked for Adobe Knowledge base articles regarding the issues
    Ran hardware diagnostics for HD, and RAM. Did a disk check on XP Everything checked out OK
    repair install
    uninstall and reinstall
    uninstall removal of all registry entries and reinstall
    Format and reload of the entire OS, re-application of all patches, re-installation of CS2 and all patches
    My next try after the forum is likely several hours on the phone with Adobe support
    The issues occur with multiple files and filetypes in multiple network and local computer locations.
    Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

    Check your computer's memory using a utility such as Memtest 86+ (free download at www.memtest.org). If you see any errors at all, remove half of the memory sticks and re-test. Repeat until you have one module that tests clean, then add them back one at a time. If an error appears, mark the added module as bad, remove it, and replace with the remaining one(s) until all have been tested.
    If you have a Microsoft Mouse and Intellipoint software, try uninstalling Intellipoint. There was a known issue with this in CS3 but it may not apply to CS2.
    Crashes on my system were traced to bad memory and once fixed, it was rock-solid.

  • Quicktime 7.6 video playback issues

    I upgraded to quicktime 7.6 yesterday and is has caused video playback issues when in higher performance with my Macbook pro. I am trying to play 1080p footage in the h.264 compression codec and it is now stuttering. It played fine in my previous quicktime player before the upgrade and it seems to play fine in the better battery setting. The problem occurs with the 9600 nvidia chip but the 9400 works okay. This is troublesome because the 9600 should out preform the 9400.

    Update: The problem only happens with MacOS 10.5.6. Running the pre-installed MacOS 10.5.5 the 9400M and 9600M displays movies smoothly using QuickTime 7.6. Disabling hardware-accelerated playback by deleting the "AppleVAH264HW.component" in "/System/Library/Quicktime" also "solves" the problem.

  • InDesign CS2 issue

    Hi, would appreciate any help on the following:
    I'm running InD CS2 on a Macbook with Snow Leopard OS. The program generally works OK, however, I have the following problem:
    Let's say there's a piece of text in a box. If I want to change its size, I highlight it and change the size using the drop down menu in the toolbar. However, when I then hit return or click off the highlighted text, it doesn't resize until I double click on the box again, then it changes. It also sometimes does this when I move a text box around on a layout - the text will vanish after I've placed it somewhere else in a page, then won't reappear until I double click the box.
    I've only had this issue since I moved from a PowerPC G5 to the Macbook and I've had a good look through the InD preferences to see if I've got a weird preference set up.
    Any views/advice/thoughts?
    Cheers

    CS2 is totally unsupported under anything later than Tiger. The fact that it's Intel adds another layer of problems.
    Time to upgrade. This is your last chance anyway. CS2 is the earliest version eligible for upgrade pricing.
    Do you have the entire suite or just InDesign?

  • Help with a CS2 issue

    hey there. I have a strange issue going on with my Photoshop CS2. When I open the program and begin to work with my image the program closes without any warning. I have never had any issues before and have done high quality graphics before with it. My current project is a poster for work that is 20 x 30. I tried at 300 and 200 dpi. When I start anything after the original layer it just closes. Is is because of the size? DPI? know the file size is a little larger than normal but to crash right off seemed kind of strange. I included my computer info so I hope that helps and if this has been mentioned before - newbie I apologize.
    Brent
    ps I haven't used the programs help in a long time.For some reason it isn't working. Is there any issues with the help option not working properly?
    (I pulled this from the system info so I included what I thought would help - with some things yeah could use a new computer no that old but could be better :-)
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 9.0.2 (9.0.2x296)
    Operating System: Windows XP
    Version: 5.1 Service Pack 1
    System architecture: AMD CPU Family:6, Model:10, Stepping:0 with MMX, SSE Integer, SSE FP
    Physical processor count: 1
    Processor speed: 2079 MHz
    Built-in memory: 1023 MB
    Free memory: 459 MB
    Memory available to Photoshop: 908 MB
    Memory used by Photoshop: 55 %
    Image cache levels: 6
    Serial number: [deleted by forum host]
    Startup, 105.4G, 49.9G free
    1 Gig of RAM

    First of all, you should update your OS to service Pack 2 and then apply the other updates that have come out since then.
    Try resetting your preferences. There are several ways to do this; the simplest is: Immediately after clicking to open Photoshop, press and hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift; if you get a dialog about your preferences, tell it to delete or clear them, after which Photoshop will open. If you don't get the dialog, you weren't fast enough. Some people find that it helps to press and hold Ctrl+Shift down before clicking, then immediately pressing Alt in addition.
    If you have reset your preferences and still have the problem, you can try doing a repair install; if that doesn't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling (which doesn't take long for PSCS2 and is no big deal).
    Let us know what happens.

  • Windows Vista & ISight - QuickTime Pro/Windows Movie Maker issues

    I recently bought a MacBook Pro and I really like, but I am having one small issue that is really confusing me. Basically, I installed Windows Vista using BootCamp and I also installed all BootCamp drivers successfully. This basically allows me to use ISight for some chat applications (e.g. Live Messenger). However, I can't access ISight through QuickTime Pro Windows Movie Maker. Are those not compatible?
    If not, what other options do I have? Basically, I am looking for some software to record ISight video for my family. And, yes, I know there is good software on the OSX side which I am already using, but I also would like to have to option to use some video editing software I already own on Windows.
    Thanks,
    Jens

    windtalker64, if it's a .mov you cannot take it into movie maker, it has to be converted to a .avi for movie maker to accept it. I used QT pro to convert a .mov to a .avi, took it into movie maker and it then became a .wmv, which is what I was trying to do. I'm going back 3 years ago when I did this so unless things have changed?

  • Quicktime 7.4 / Safari streaming issue

    Ever since upgrading to Quicktime 7.1.2 and Safari 2.0.4 web pages that I've created with streaming qt clips (from a streaming server) no longer stream (though the pages themselves load). The pages work fine in IE and Firefox, and they even work fine from any Mac with QT 6 and the older version of Safari.
    Any help? I've done the old moving the qt plugin bit, and deleting preferences. And deleting the plist. Seems some sort of incompatibility in the coding that used to work when designing in Dreamweaver and working with QT 6. Again, the clips play fine in IE and Firefox, so it doesn't seem to be a QT 6 v. QT 7 issue, but something about Safari.

    Sorry. I wasn't aware the page code was you own.
    The .tif files should be converted to .jpg and then saved (via QuickTime Pro) as .mov files. They become the "poster" movie for your object and embed tags. Changing them to .mov should shrink there size to about 20KB's.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61011 Info about these tags.
    http://developer.apple.com/internet/ieembedprep.html
    New changes required for Internet Explorer and these same tags.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/03war/
    One of my pages that uses this new javascript page code. Mine targets the QuickTime Player instead of the browser (target="quicktimeplayer" versus target="myself). View the page source to see this new format. I use the external .js file in the <head> tag.
    A "virgin" PC (no QuickTime installed) using Internet Explorer couldn't view your files.
    A least you seem to have sorted out the streaming error. I saw a Stouffers box.
    Replacing the .tif files with .jpg saved as .mov files will trim 900KB's from the load time of your page. It will also help with the href lined streaming files.
    Proper (more modern) html code will allow you more visitors.

  • Quicktime 7.4.5 Resolution Issues?

    I'm writing to you from a Post Production facility. We create "approval" copies of commercials at 320x240. We're now noticing that on systems with Quicktime 7.4.5, the width of the video looks squished, possibly by as many as 10-20 pixels. However, when I inspect the movie, quicktime does say that the video is 320x240.
    I went to a machine with an earlier quicktime release, and the issue doesn't appear.
    Any idea why? Any idea if Apple will resolve this soon? We can't have messed up resolutions as it will cause issues for us.
    Thanks!

  • Quicktime Streaming Server Live broadcast Issue

    Hi All,
    If someone could please help me with this, I have a Quicktime Streaming server set up in our DMZ with Nicecast being used to broadcast up to the server. When I enter the URL of the station in Internet Explorer Windows Media Player launches without any issue and plays the live broadcast. When I try to launch the URL in Firefox or Google Chrome for some reason the Quicktime plugin attempts to play the broadcast, plays about 10 seconds and stops. Any thoughts to why that is?
    Thank You,
    Brad

    The embedded link plays on Windows in IE 7, Firefox 3.5 (Mac and Win), and Safari 4.0.2 Mac, all with QT 7.6.2. Below are some screenshots of the chat window where the stream plays from:
    *This is Firefox 3.5 Mac:*
    *This is Safari 4.0.2 Mac:*
    *This is Firefox 3.5 Win:*
    *This is IE 7:*
    The issue with Safari and Firefox in the top two images is the code on the page needs to be fixed. This is what's there:
    <OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" CODEBASE="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab" WIDTH="90" HEIGHT="50" >
    <PARAM NAME="src" VALUE=" icy://riotradio.dc-uoit.ca/riotradio" >
    <PARAM NAME="autoplay" VALUE="true" >

    </EMBED>
    </OBJECT>
    and that's why you see the little QT window next to the 'Riot Radio' graphic and why you see the player window with the -2048 error code below it in the Safari screenshot. If the code is changed to this:
    <OBJECT CLASSID="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" CODEBASE="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab" WIDTH="90" HEIGHT="50">
    <EMBED PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/" SRC="http://www.theriotradio.com/chatbox/riotradio.mov" TYPE="image/x-quicktime" WIDTH="90" HEIGHT="50" AUTOPLAY="true">
    </EMBED>
    </OBJECT>
    the little QT box should disappear and the player will display in the area below the 'Riot Radio' graphic. However, the '<OBJECT>' and '<EMBED>' tags are deprecated in favor of using Apple's javascript implementation of calling QT in web pages. This is also the reason that the QT plugin doesn't load in IE 7 (last image) -the 'Q' with the '?' mark on it.
    Here's a sample of what could be used:
    <head>
    <script src="AC_QuickTime.js" language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"></script>
    </head>
    <body>
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    QT_WriteOBJECT('http://www.theriotradio.com/chatbox/riotradio.mov','310','305',' ',
    'autoplay','true',
    'controller','true',
    'align','middle');
    </script>
    </body>
    You can pass this link:
    http://developer.apple.com/internet/ieembedprep.html
    along to your coder to have him look at what is recommended for QT embedding using javascript to make it work with IE 7/8 -it will also work with FF and Safari. The 'AC_QuickTime.js' javascript, shown in the code sample, can be downloaded from the page linked above and placed on the site.

  • Quicktime 7.5.7 install issue...

    I'm having an issue with Software Update on Quicktime 7.5.7 for a couple of weeks now.
    When I try installing it, I get the following error:
    The update “QuickTime” can’t be saved.
    A networking error has occurred: Cannot open file (-3001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again.
    I already tried deleting the following files Library/Preferences com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist and the content of the Library/Updates folder, but the problem is persistent.
    The strange thing is that I just was able to install a raw camera update without a problem... and since I just posted this, obviously, I can connect to the internet...
    I am also unable to find a standalone updater file on Apple's download site... there are Quicktime 7.5.5 ones, but not for the 7.5.7 one.
    Thanks in advance for your help...

    Interesting, since nothing shows up at http://support.apple.com/downloads/#quicktime%207.5.7 WRT to it. Now, maybe I have to be running one of those machines to see, but that would be a new one on me. Now, when doing a google search for *quicktime 7.5.7* I get multiple hits, but none of them get to a downloadable version. Maybe Apple pulled it or never released it and it was bogus.

  • Quicktime 7 plugin has audio issues on a particular site

    The issue I'm currently having is with the Quicktime 7.7.1 plugin for Firefox.  I use Firefox 12,  running on OS Lion, and this plugin has some sound issue with a particular site I like to visit.  When playing audio midis, it sounds tinny and plunky/compressed.  I did not have this problem before Lion, but the plugin does work fine on other sites.  I tried to delete the Quicktime app. thinking it somehow became corrupted, but I may be wrong.  I had my data transferred from my old mac to the new one I have now.  I don't know if that could have affected the QT plugin somehow or what.  Any suggestions or ideas?

    AFAIK, that plugin is for QT X, not QT 7.

    Hey all, I'm just checking to see if anyone has experienced any problems or improvements with Compressor 3.0.1 after updating 10.4.x (PowerPC) to Quicktime 7.3?
    The description says it's only to handle new iTunes stuff, but you never know...

    Actually, yes. &.3 had many problems - not the least of which was problems with all my Compressor droplets. The last few seconds of everything I ran through Compressor was cut off. I finally had to roll back to the previous version of Quicktime. Then Compressor worked again. But now I have sync issues between FCP & Motion. Time to reinstall everybody.
