Quicktime 7.1.5 disabled Shockwave/Flash on Firefox

After installing QT 7.1.5 yesterday a number of web sites that use Shockwave/Flash no longer work.
Instead of the video pane that should come up, I get the Quicktime logo with a question mark in it.
This includes sites like espn.com, youtube.com etc.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall both QT and Firefox and nothing works.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

YouTube uses Flash Video and QuickTime (browser plug-in) should not be associated with it.
Open System Preferences/QuickTime/Advanced tab
Click the MIME Settings button
Under Miscellaneous disclosure triangle remove the check mark for Flash Media
Quit and relaunch your browser to test these changes.

• I have both versions 10 and 12 of shockwave Flash on Firefox OS 26.  I wish to delete or remove V10

I have both versions 10 and 12 of shockwave Flash on Firefox OS 26.  I wish to delete or remove V10 but can't from any process I know including Windows\system32\macromed\flash  path.  This deletes both of them .
What next?

Flash Player Uninstaller
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
I recommend keeping BOTH ActiveX and the regular Player Plugin installed, even if you don't use IE.

• Shockwave flash causes firefox 4 crash

shockwave flash causes firefox 4 hangs. it happens whether using the latest or the previous version of flash. removing flash solves the problem but removing flash is not a solution. this happens on a computer with Windows 7. However on another computer with XP this does not happen.

#Download a copy of Flash from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and save it to your desktop.
#Then download the Flash Uninstaller
#Close Firefox via File | Exit
#Run the uninstaller to remove Flash from Firefox. It will also remove it from IE.
#Reboot
#Run the Flash installer you downloaded to your desktop earlier (do not start Firefox). This will install it on Firefox only.
#Open IE and go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and choose Run when you see the prompt.
#Test the installation in both Firefox and IE by going to: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

• Flash Player lags Firefox but doesn't when I disable Shockwave Flash Plugin

On certain websites with Flash based web players my whole of Firefox lags like crazy. I have been trying to fix this issue for a while to no avail (Tried resetting, re-installing, etc.) It mostly happens when I move my cursor over the Flash player. After I move my cursor so somewhere else on the webpage (a non-Flash part) it start flickering between the default cursor and pointer (clicking finger icon)
Now today I decide to uninstall the Flash application from my PC and reinstall it. After I uninstalled the Flash player suddenly I have no stuttering issues on Firefox anymore! But of course some other Flash related application do not work anymore.
When I re-install the Flash player it goes back to stuttering and lagging. When I disable the Flash player plugin in about:addons the stuttering is gone.
Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. It has been bugging me for so long now that I have to use Chrome to visit certain websites...

Hello,
Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
# Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/> <br/>
# Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
# Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
# Restart Firefox.
This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
* Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

• Shockwave flash causes Firefox to crash

My Firefox crashes when trying to open 75% of web pages. I get the windows standard "Firefox is not responding" window after it freezes while trying to load the page.
I have singled out the problem to be the Shockwave Flash (11.5.502.149) plugin as everything works correctly with this disabled.
I have tried updated flash, uninstalling and re-installing it and the same with FF but nothing seems to work so far.

Ok, ever since I installed Firefox 20, I continually get "Shockwave plug in is not responding". And, yes I've tried everything that has been suggested. Now what?

• Shockwave Flash makes Firefox almost freezing. Disabling solves the problem. Known issue?

FF 4.0 (and before) is not responding for a very long time (several minutes) on any website almost from the beginning. The more flash videos are shown only as a black field.

Disabling the Shockwave plugin solves the problem of speed perfectly. But no more chance to view flash videos...

• Shockwave flash causes Firefox 24 to crash

Mozilla needs to get ahead of this. There hundreds of reports of the same crashes and the current solutions don't seem to help. We need on detailed fix for this problem, right out in front on the web site.
Chrome seems to work fine with the plug-in, if you can't fix this problem, we'll have to go to Chrome.
Using windows XP

reset defaults
un-install and re-install firefox<br />
change settings in Chrome?<br />
Check Firefox for plug-in updates (under Help-troubleshooting, I think it was about:plug-ins)<br />
delete and re-install shockwave<br />
I can't remember them all.

• Firefox crashes on some web sites because of Shockwave Flash plug-in

I have the latest Firefox running on updated Windows Vista SP2. Each time I go to my Google+ site, FF opens it and then crashes. I have located the problem for this crash to the Adobe Flash plug-in. When I disable the Shockwave Flash plug-in, crashes would stop. The Shockwave plug-in is updated to the latest version, and I even re-installed it, which didn't help. I have similar crashes on some other sites during searches. It becomes rather frequent and irritating. Please suggest some options how to deal with that.

Thanks for reply. I do have the updated version of Trusteer Rapport. It is really interesting - I disable Shockwave Flash, and the crashes would stop. Then I would enable the Shockwave and stop the Rapport, the crashes would also stop. However, when they both are active - Firefox crashes all the time on Google+ web site. I do not have the same problem with Google Chrome and IE-9, only Firefox. I will try to ask Trusteer forums, but doubt that they would be able to offer something. It looks like Firefox specifically does not like something.

• Shockwave flash object crashed my IE 9.

Shockwave flash object crashed my IE9. I had to go through all of the add-ons until I found the problem. Then I disabled SHOCKWAVE FLASH OBJECT. Is it not compatiable with IE9 Vista sp1 or what is going on here?

• Shockwave flash object add-on slowing down Internet Explorer

Hi Greetings for the day. Have you guys ever heard that the Shockwave flash object add-on is slowing down IE? I noticed this happens in all IE versions and it doesn't matter which OS you are using. I am a technician myself and I work for AT&T Connectech and experienced this issue on different computers a hundred times at least. With the shockwave add-on enabled, IE will take more than 5-10 minutes just to load Google website or it will not at all. The cursor will just keep spinning. If we go to add-ons and disable Shockwave Flash Object, everything will load as it is supposed to.
However, if we disable shockwave add-on, the user will no longer be able to play any online videos or do anything that required flash player. I have tried reinstalling Adobe Flash Player with its different versions and none helped. Sometimes, downgrading the Internet Explorer would correct the problem. In most instances it too failed. If you guys have any information on this and how to resolve it, please mail me. Thanks and regards

Pat and Mike, thank you for your responses. This issue look strange to me as well! No, there are no processes taking much space. In most cases, the CPU usage will be less than 15-20%. In few instances, I noticed svhost is taking more space. Still, IE could not load any websites. I mentioned that Google thing since even if Google doesn't require flash, it still takes for ever to load with the flash addon enabled.
I started to notice this almost an year ago. What we would do is either disable shockwave addon and educate the user about the same and install another browser for backup.

• Shockwave Flash 11.3.300.271 problem with Firefox 14.0.1

It's more of an annoyance than a problem, but if I enable the Shockwave add-on, the search field in Google (my default start/home page) isn't automatically selected. I have to mouse click in the search field, and then can start typing my search word(s). This was never the case before. When I started Firefox, it would go to my Google start page and the cursor would be in the field and I could just start typing. I know it's a minor annoyance, but having to click the mouse EVERY time I start is unacceptable, especially since it doesn't have to be that way. If I disable shockwave flash, it works as it always has, but then certain videos won't play on various websites.

The "Firefixer" download link in the previous reply was reviewed and removed by a moderator yesterday. Anyone who received that link in an e-mail notification should not download and run the FireFix.exe file.

• Shockwave Flash Downloading Problem

I am using a very slow dialup internet connection.  What takes most only minutes to download takes me all day.  I run a Windows XP Pro SP3 operating system and a Firefox 35.0.1 browser.  My main problem is that with your downloader/installer I can't maintain a download connection from Adobe long enough to download any version of Shockwave Flash.  Firefox recently updated and now the Shockwave Flash plugin needs to be updated but it says the update has been blocked so I went to Adobe to try and get the update downloaded.  It seems I am forced to use the Adobe downloader/installer instead of the one I normally use (DownloadThemAll). How can I get the update?

• The Shockwave Flash 10.1 r82 plugin check says "VULNERABLE" and suggest an update for Adobe flash player 10.1. It may disable my antivirus. Is this safe? Is it the right update?

I have Firefox 3.6.10.
When I checked for plug-ins updates, it opened the "plug-in check" page and showed the Shockwave Flash 10.1 r82 as "vulnerable", explaining a potential security vulnerability and suggesting to update to latest version if existent, or if not, disable the plugin.
The Adobe security advisory suggests to upgrade to the newest version Adobe Flash Player 10.1.85.3.
When I click on it, it says Adobe Flash Player 10.1 only. It also says: "You may have to temporarily disable your antivirus software". Is this safe? Also: how do I know that the 10 . 1 version is the same as the 10.1.85.3 version?

The Adobe Flash Player page refers to 10.1, but the full version details for the latest release is 10.1 r85 which is a security update. You can get it from the above link, or use the manual installers available from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html#main_ManualInstaller
You should not have to disable the Anti-virus software in order to install Flash, only do that if is is interfering with the installation.
