Quicktime 7.1.5 just installed

I've recently installed QT 7.1.5 but now web pages calling for QT show the "Q" symbol but with a big "?" superimposed over it. Does this mean that I need the MPEG-2 plug-in, or one of the other 3rd party plug-ins. I'm not a web developer, movie maker, pod caster, etc. I just would like for movies to play, pictures to show...just the basic stuff.
Any help would be appreciated very much!

I also installed the Quicktime 7.1.5 and have the same problem. I purchased the Quicktime Pro for $29.95 thinking that would help and still have the problem. I called tech support and first they wanted to sell me the 10.4 version of software to upgrade my computer or $45. for over the phone tech support that they could not guarantee would help. the tech support person says that they have not had any calls on this problem. This I do not believe. I think mac has an answer by now and is just holding out. This happened the same day I downloaded the daylight savings update. I read somewhere in Quicktime support that 7.1.5 overroad version 5 and 6 and deleted some parts and there is suppose to be some kind of patch, but I cannot find anything. That is why I purchased Pro. Has anyone heard of this patch that might help our problem. Don't spend $30. on Pro. I am just a person who uses the computer for fun. Don't need any bells and whistles just the computer to work. Please help!!!

H.264 video should be supported by your basic Snow Leopard operating system. The DVCPRO HD family of codecs is part of the Apple "Pro" codecs package which is normally installed as part of a "Pro" video editing suite installer or contemporaneously installed separately as part of one of the newer pro editing apps like FCPX. if you already have one of these pro suites or apps installed or available, then re-install the correct codec package that is missing. If not, you will need to purchase a Pro suite or app to be able to install the required codec package.

Snow Leopard update 10.6.4 included an update to 7.6.6 (if installed). You can install it from the above link even though it says for 10.6.3. It's the same version of QuickTime Player 7.6.6.

iCloud will still work for free, i.e sync your contacts between ios devices and the cloud (icloud.com) but for the calendar and addresses to sync with a windows PC you will need outlook 2007+.
However as you dont use that part at the moment i'm sesning no great loss - icloud bookmarks and photo stream will sync with a windows pc without outlook so the rest of icloud will still work for you for free

I just installed quicktime 7.7.2 to watch movie trailers, works but no sound

I just installed quicktime 7.7.2 to watch movie trailers on http://trailers.apple.com/trailers. It plays the trailers OK but there's no sound. Any ideas? I have Windows XP.
Quicktime installation also changed the association on an m4v movie that played perfectly with the VLC movie player, but plays real jerky with the QT player and also there's no sound. Any ideas?

Quicktime 10.3 (Just installed Mavericks) no longer exports chapter markers

For the last few years, I've been able to take a .mov edited in Prores 422, with FCP, and save as a master. Then, I'd open that file with Quicktime, and export as 1080P.
The result before tonight has been a moview with H.264 encoding (considerable smaller than 422), with 'text', or Chapter Markers.
Example of file info: Apple ProRes 422, Linear PCM, Timecode, QuickTime Text
Now.. after installing Mavericks.. the same process just creates 'AAC, H.264'.
The text codec has been stripped.
1) Is there a good workflow, or do I have to install metadata hoot.. or handbrake?
2) Can I roll back to a quicktime version prior to the version Mavericks has tewaked.. and still keep Mavericks?

Another problem you may have if you work on a new
timeline rather than the original one with all the
clips is the addition of compression markers.
When you make the MPEG2 files for DVDSP, whether via
compressor or by encoding in DVDSP, the encoder will
do a better job if it knows where scene changes are.
This is achieved by adding compression markers at
scene changes. This tells the encoder that there is
a significant change in the image content and that
it should refresh all the data in the image rather
than trying to modify the last frame.
When you export from FCP, compression markers are
automatically added at the beginning of each clip on
the timeline. If only one clip on the timeline you
will need to manually insert compression markers at
each scene change. The same applies if you digitise
an already cut sequence so that you can make the MPEG
files.

Thanks for your comment! Will the clip play any worse if I do not use the compression markers and import to DVD SP the entire clip without any scene breaks? So far I've imported the entire clip into the program and it seems to play well according to the simulator, and I haven't added anything except manually adding markers to the DVD SP track that contains my tv show. It's the first I've heard about compression markers, and I'm hestitant to use the version of the episode with all my cuts for export (there are many many cuts) especially since the instructions I received were to use a clip of the show without any cuts for export.

I just installed the latest iMovie 10.0.2. Please don't say "look at the help menu" - it doesn't help. This is radically different than the version I'd been using. For starters it automatically converts to mp4 rather than .mov - that's my 1st question

Sorry for the long headline - I'm new to the support community and thought that was the post! I've been happily using my old version of iMovie - I don't even know the number - I guess it was 11? I just installed the most recent 10.0.2 and it is radically different from what I've been using. For starters, whereas my uploaded video used to be in the lower section, and I would edit up above, now it's reversed. Whereas I used to click on the transitions and drag a blur or whatever to my movie right while I was editing, now it's on a different screen. And the easy old Export file button is gone, where you could choose setting, file size, export as Quicktime movie - all gone - now it converts to mp4 and I STILL can't figure out how to get it back to .mov

Hey, just installed the newest version of iTunes today off the iTunes site.
Getting the following message:
quicktime version 7.0d0 is installed, iTunes requires Quicktime version 7.0.3 or later. Please reinstall iTunes.
I have re-downloaded the install file and ran the "repair" option, but no good has come, same error.
Any suggestions?
P.s. It worked fine after the install was first complete, it was after I restarted the PC that it wouldnt work.

Quicktime 7.1 won't install with MS06-015 on Windows Server 2003

Quicktime 7.1 will not install correctly on Windows Server 2003 with MS06-015 - Vulnerability in Windows Explorer Could Allow Remote Code Execution installed.
We have tried this on at least 6 machines. All fail at the last step in the install process with the following error:
"Unhandled Exception:
Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL function call crashed: QTInstallCode.QuickTimePostInstallProc
Setup will now terminate"
This leaves Quicktime (and iTunes if installed) broken.
Removing MS06-015 allows Quicktime 7.1 to be installed but leaves the gaping holes fixed by MS06-015 wide open - not a good place to be.
It's more than likely that this is caused by Quicktime 7.1 being blocked by Verclsid.exe which is installed by MS06-015. See this Knowledge base article - You may experience problems in Windows Explorer or in the Windows shell after you install security update MS06-015 for more information.
Can anyone else please confirm this or better still can this please be fixed?

First I gonna tell you don't try this at work Server...
I had try this on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and it work fine/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic_ __/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
After I had been test and test..... Look like QT-7.1 doesn't like(Shell32.dll Ver. 6.00.3790.2662).
There is way to fix this problem.
1. Send me an email, I will send you back (Shell32.dll Ver.6.0.3790.2534)<< This version working with QT-7.1 after I uninstall all the HotFix Update that relate to Shell32.dll.
How to replace this dll file
Don't use Search to find this file.
Click into C:\ and type in the Address bar C:\windows\system32\ then find the current Shell32.dll > Rename it to some thing else, just incase if it not working for you, so you still have the orignal file.
Then copy the file I send you to the System32 folder.
Restart you PC and try to install again....
