Quicktime 7.2 not working

A couple of months ago I downloaded the new version of Quicktime 7.2. Since I have downloaded it sometimes it works and most of the time it doesn't. When I go to a website like uTube the quicktime logo comes up with a question mark in the middle. I'm unable to view anything that requires quicktime. Before I downloaded the new version I never had a problem with quicktime (on websites or just playing a movie I made). So does anyone know whats up with it? Thanks

I just installed iLife '08 on my Intel-based iMac running MacOS 10.4.10. This install included version 7.2 of QuickTime. I also downloaded and installed several updates to QuickTime from the Apple web site. Now, I can't seem to view MPG video clips. When I try to view a clip, I first get the QuickTime logo, followed by the "progress bar", which indicates that the clip is being downloaded. However, the image never appears, just the progress bar.
I did go to System Preferences -> QuickTime -> Advanced, but I don't know which formats I should checl/uncheck, so I have just used the default settings.
Any suggestions? Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Quicktime movies do not work, please help me

Hello friends. I have a problem that is absolutely driving me crazy. I belong to a popular pay site that has quicktime videos. I used to use the site and watched the videos, even though I have to use stupid dial-up because I live in the sticks, the videos worked, though they loaded slowly. After an absence for a half year or so, and after upgrading to Quicktime 7 (7.0.3), I rejoined the site and found the videos no longer worked for me (except for, mysteriously, maybe once or twice, I don't know why). I asked on their forums if anyone else had the problem, and I couldn't find anyone that did. I asked their help line and couldn't get any good information either. Finally, a nice person from their site phoned me and tried to help me personally with the problem, and he couldn't figure it out either. This man is a serious Mac user and programmer and he was stymmied. We tried all the QT settings and messed with the keychain settings, but nothing worked. Well, I did get a video to play once by changing the key chain settings, but then it went back to not working again after that.
Specifically, here's what happens: when I click on a link to open a video, the QT player comes up, but it's in the small screen with only the time window and the buttons, not the video. Then.... nothing, that's it.
The man I spoke with confirmed my suspicions that maybe there was something wrong with my system (I did reinstall QT several times, which didn't help.) I went out and bought OSX.4 and installed it, which was not easy because there was a problem and I had to do a clean install, erasing everything on my hard drive and starting over. I was sure that would solve the problem, but NOOOOO, it still does exactly the same thing.
This is not some shady website I'm dealing with, it's a popular, rather expensive (for me, anyway) pay site with many happy members. And one extremely frustrated one.
Thanks for any suggestions you can come up with. Maybe a setting I've overlooked? Anything at all?

Ok, maybe I can jog someone's memory just a bit, maybe I can get some help on this. I tried using my laptop with the website videos, with the same result, just either blank video screen or the small screen with nothing but controls and time bar. Then I took the laptop to a friend's house and tried it on her wireless system and it worked fine. I came home, tried it here again and it didn't work. I know it would take longer, but it should work here on my dial-up connection. It used to work, before I upgraded to Quicktime 7, and the people at the website say that it should work too. They don't know of anyone else with this problem. I've tried changing my quicktime preferences but that has no effect.
    Any more ideas? Thanks again.

  • Recording desktop in Quicktime 10 does not work in SL

    OS 10.6.8 and QT 10.0 (131)
I want to record one of my desktop processes with QuickTime (v10.0).  However it does not work, I get the following message:
The operation couldn't be completed. (OS Status error -108.)
I do get a file that appears to be the recording but it does not want to open. And I do need to force quit QuickTime almost every time the error appears.
On my other Mac, also with 10.6.8, it works fine.  So I am puzzled.
Anybody know what this could be? How to fix? Open to suggestions.
I was also looking for a version of QT10 to reinstall it but can not find one. ( I was hoping this might fix it).

Why not use QuickTime 7.6.6 which is located inside your utility folder?
I was also looking for a version of QT10 to reinstall it but can not find one.
You can custom install directly from your system disc that came with your computer.  Follow the onscreen custom install instructions.

  • Quicktime app does not work

I have just tried to open a TS file on my Mac Pro Yosemite and got a message that ¨ To open this file I needed to download and install Quicktime Mpg2 Playback Component¨,
Buy online from http.//www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2 which I did. I paid €19.99 and it downloaded. I opened the installer and then got the message ¨QuickTime MPEG2 can't be installed on this disk. This software is intended for an earlier version of Mac OS X ¨.
I have now paid out to Apple for something that leaves me out of pocket for something they recommend that does not work. How do I get my money back?

What version of Quicktime are you running?  The MPEG-2 Playback Component is only for Quicktime 7.  It will not work with later versions of Quicktime.  If you are running Quicktime that ships with Lion or later, this component already is included.  However it should still work with Quicktime 7 if it was installed prior to migrating or upgrading to Lion or later.

If the file in question will not run under the Quicktime that shipped with Yosemite, try using VideoLAN.

  • Quicktime movie does not work on hosted iWeb website

Problem: I have a media file portion on my iWeb designed website that displays pictures (working very well) and one that is supposed to show a movie (not working at all). The movie was made with iMovie and has an .m4v extension. When you click on the link for the movie it shows a blank screen on Firefox and a Quicktime logo with a big question mark on Safari. I'm attempting to view the website on my Mac with the latest Quicktime software on it but it doesn't work. Any ideas on how to fix it?
Some additional info: the hosting provider is 1and1.com and I have a Windows server package (unfortunately). Also, if I publish the site to a folder the movie area works flawlessly, it just does not work on the hosted site.
    Thanks!!

Thank you. I converted the file to .MOV and it now works on Safari but has not worked on Firefox (have not tried yet on a Windows based machine). At least headed in the right direction. I will also contact 1and1. Thanks again.

  • FCP Quicktime movie files not working with iDVD

I have been using iDVD for years with no issues. Now, whenever I export a QT file from FCP 7 and use it in iDVD, I get a blank screen with audio and no video.
I am able to work around the problem by using "Export Using Qucktime Conversion" and creating a smaller file, but I've never had to do that before. What in the world am I missing here? Shouldn't I be able to export as a QT movie, as long as the file is not gigantic? (the most recent one I used and had this problem occur was only about 500mb). Thanks for any help...
    Ben

    Hmmm,
Well this is helpful information but unfortunately didn't solve my problem. The movie in question is only 5 1/2 minutes long. When I export it as a QT movie, iDVD "acts" like everything is fine; I can preview it within iDVD, etc.But when I burn the disc, it comes out blank. I then went back to FCP and exported it using QT conversion, and the DVD burned just fine. (I exclusively use Taiyo Yuden media and have never had a bad disc).
This is just a simple 16:9 movie, shot at 720/30p on a Canon DSLR. I ingested with Log and Transfer using ProRes422, then dropped it onto the timeline, added a music track, rendered, and exported as Quicktime movie. It looks great on my desktop using the QT player, but it simply will not work in iDVD.  Still stuck here...

  • Airplay from quicktime movie does not  work

I just updated my iPad2 to iOS5 and my ATV2 to the latest version (4.4, I believe). Both are working fine and runnin the new versions.
Then I started Safari on the iPad2, loaded the page with the iPhone 4S presentation and played it. Plays fine on the iPad. Then I select the airplay button and it lets me choose between iPad and Apple TV. Good too. But the Apple Tv fails with a complaint about not being able to play the type of content.
    Should this not just work?
    Thanks.

Thank you. I converted the file to .MOV and it now works on Safari but has not worked on Firefox (have not tried yet on a Windows based machine). At least headed in the right direction. I will also contact 1and1. Thanks again.

  • QUICKTIME PLAYER DOES NOT WORK IN MOUNTAIN LION 10.8.4?? IT LAGS WHENEVER I SPEAK IN MY MICROPHONE?

I recently updated my macbook pro to the new 10.8.4 update of apple, which i thought was pretty cool
But whenever i use Quicktime Player (The version of my Quicktime is 10.2) for recording with my Blue Yeti microphone, it starts to lag when i talk on screen and it started to annoy me A LOT! :/
Is it because of my Quicktime player version?
Please help, this has never happened before i updated my laptop!

Then I don't really know why it isn't working. What you might try is this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
After this is completed download and install 10.8.4 Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo).

  • Quicktime simply does not work, please advise!

    Howdy folks,
There must be something wrong with my Macbook Pro Version 10.6.2, perhaps its too old to allow QuickTime to work? Maybe I need to buy another Macbook thats more up to date?
When I open QuickTime player from the Applications folder, it appears in my dock, but nothing else happens. There is no window that actually allows me to do anything with QuickTime. This could be normal, but I am not sure.
I've been trying to play this movie: http://club2009.upa.org/videos/open-finals for a while now and all that happens is the QuickTime logo appears where the video should be playing. I followed the link at the bottom that says something like 'Problem viewing videos? Download latest QuickTime player'. So I downloaded the latest QuickTime player from the site and during the installation, this message appears:
'QuickTime can't be installed on this disk. This version of QuickTime 7 can't be installed on this disk because QuickTime X is already present. Please us Software Update to install the appropriate version of QuickTime for your Mac.'
This is quite frustrating. Please help!
    Many thanks, in advance.

Sloppy html page code and older codecs may be getting in the way:
    http://video.upa.org/videos/club2009/Club09FinalOpenRevolverVsChain.mov
It's a huge file but it opens and works for me when I copy/paste the URL (above) into the Open URL dialog window of QuickTime X and 7.6.6 (requires Snow Leopard 10.6.3).
Run Software Update on your machine.

  • Multichannel Quicktime discrete outputs not working in CC

I have tried dozens of times after reading great tutorials like here: http://strypesinpost.com/2013/06/exporting-mulitchannel-quicktimes-in-premiere-pro-part-2/
but still no luck exporting multichannel discrete quicktimes in premiere pro CC.  I have created and set a sequence for multichannels, then assigned channels in timeline to match and set export to match but still nothing but ONE working track out of 4 on number 1 and sometimes 2. I have tried outputting 4 strereo tracks with 8 channels panned and unpanned, 4 mono tracks, ect, ect. I am really liking premiere so far from FCP and Avid except this, please help.  Thanks
    Note:
I am not seeing the split track button under the pan knob in the mixer like I did in version 6.  Is this normal for CC?   Thanks again

All fixed, I was in clip mixer and not track mixer and could not see the assignment buttons.  Everything works like a charm now as stereo or mono multichannel discrete quicktime outputs (through two speakers) using quicktimes "show movie properties" to individually check each track for correct sound . Thanks

  • Quicktime plug-in not working in Safari

I've tried everything I know to get this working. Deleted prefs, re-installed QuickTime, etc. I can't even get QT movies on the Apple site to play. They work with FireFox, but not Safari.
Running OS X 10.5.1, newest QT, etc. What on earth is going on?!

I had the same problem with Quicktime. When I clicked on a link, I got only the audio portion and no video. If I clicked the link a second time the video would play. I went through the whole process of downgrading my version of Quicktime with no satisfactory result. I read your comment and followed your instruction of removing the the Quicktime web plugin and now all is well. Thanks for the help.

  • Quicktime start & Stop not working in Inspector.

I drag an MPEG4 file to Keynote 09 (5.1) as soundtrack. I click onto Quicktime to use just a snippet of the song, but it is not available....I can only use the entire song.
    How can I fix this?
Also, can I adjust the volume from slide to slide? or does the volume need to be the same throughout the usage of that audio file?

your last stop is working though? try putting a couple frames
b4 the first stop.. see if it is skipping over it. ... it shouldn't
do this..but it might because of loading over with
    presentation.

  • Quicktime player "help" not working

I have Quicktime Pro on a MacBook. Quicktime player works fine. However, I can't access the help feature. When I click on quicktime help or put in a help topic to search for nothing happens. it just returns to the quicktime player screen. It works fine on my Mac mini, just not the MacBook. When I do a software update it says all software up to date. Something must be missing, but don't know how to fix it.

  • Quicktime has suddenly not worked with any movies I have.

Yes, I've downloaded many .avi movies and they would all work with quicktime. For example, once completely downloaded, the movie would have a small icon of the actual movie, probably the first frame. Anyway, I have no idea when I stopped working, but I dl'd Adventureland today and whenever I double click to open it with QT, I get "The movie 'Adventureland.2009.DvDRip.AC3-FxM.avi' can't be opened." It then says I may need to install additional files to open it. I have VLC to watch it, so that's not a problem, however I'm concerned about what's going on. I have QT X and though I've tried to download 7.6.6, it won't let me because of QT X. So idk what's going on. Any ideas?? I also have the most current DivX codecs installed so I know that's not it. I'm going to try it with older files I've downloaded.

Any file that has DvDRip in its name is bound to be trouble.

  • Major Finder Issues (Also Quicktime, Itunes, Spotlight not working)- Please

I have a lot of problems, but I posted in this forum b/c I'm figuring if I can get the finder back I may be able to resolve the other issues.
Here is the situation. I'm running OSX Tiger on a Core2Duo Mac. A few days ago I did a mac upgrade that upgraded Quicktime. Unfortunately, that caused Quicktime to stop streaming a site I use for school. I was getting video but no sound. Quicktime streamed other sites just fine. I came to this website and saw others having this problem. Don't remember exactly what thread I read, but a few threads convinced me that I could uninstall Quicktime and get the old version which had worked for me. I dl'ed Tinker Tool to erase all files with the name quicktime in them (simply dragging Quicktime to the trashbin proved fruitless), including those in the system folder. When I tried to remove the trash it said some quicktime files were in use. So I restarted the comp to kill whatever background programs could have been running. When it restarts, I have no finder. The trash is still full, but I can't delete anything. I can't activate anything in the dock. I click on the icons and they just jump around. All my desktop items are missing. I couldn't even get online b/c firefox wouldn't activate and I don't keep Safari in the dock b/c I prefer Firefox.
I ran disk repair and repair permissions. Nothing changed. I added a new user account and this is how I was able to get online. Although all the problems I mentioned still exist, this account has Safari in the dock and the program opened so here I am online. So far the only programs I can open from the dock are dashboard, mail, addressbook, system preferences, and safari.
I'm guessing I deleted something that was vital to the system. But all I deleted were files with quicktime in the title.
I've tried to reinstall quicktime, but it says I can't b/c there is a newer version already on the drive. But, this version is not really there b/c I cannot stream or use sites that require Quicktime.
Of course, I would just re-install OS if I had backed-up my data, but I'm between external HDs right now.
Can't get access to the Genius Bar until tomorrow and I really need my comp in its full capacity asap. Any help would be appreciated.

    You are welcome, Anita.
I relate to the economics - I was a student myself (1000 years ago...well, maybe a little less).
When you do get an external HD (I bought my last one for under a $100 on the Apple on-line store), take a look at a little program called SuperDuper ($28 at www.shirt-pocket.com). SD makes bootable clones - pretty fast after the first one. I have no installed OS X 10.5, so I have not had a chance to look at Apple's built-in backup feature.

I was using an older version of the YouTube app updated to the new 1.4 version of the YouTube app and lost the ability to view my rock videos on my TV. Now that I got that new crap app my Apple A/V Component cables are only sending the audio to the TV with a black screen. This new app no longer supports TV out for some reason through the Apple A/V Component cables. If it's not broken I sure fixed it!
