Quicktime 7.2 with Flip4Mac and Perian Plugins.

Any know bugs or the green light to use them .....

Another green light.
You may find this useful:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything:
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
Perian from http://perian.org/
Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Quicktime 7.5.5 won't play .avi on MacBook Air w/flip4mac and perian

I have .avi files that are Apple - Microsoft Video 1 codec. They play fine on an Intel based desktop using Tiger and Quicktime 7.5.5 without plugins. But won't work on my MacBook Air (white screen). Installing the Flip4Mac and Perian plugins didn't solve the problem. WRAW codecs play fine. "MacGenius" no help. Any thoughts?

I have experienced the same issue on my MacBook Air with Mac OS X 10.5.5 and QuickTime 7.5.5.
The video format is "Apple - Microsoft video 1" according to QT inspector.
The AVI file plays fine on a MacBook Pro (Early 2008), MacBook Pro (Mid 2007), and a MacPro (1st Gen). All of these have the very latest software updates from Apple as of today (10-10-2008).
I erased the MBA and installed the original 10.5.1 from the restore DVD. *The video played back correctly*. Then I applied all available Apple updates (which includes QT 7.5.5) and the video only displays a White screen in the QuickTime player. (No other third party applications were installed.)
I have not backtracked yet to determine if it video fails as soon as QT 7.5.5 installed.

  • Problems with Flip4Mac and/or listening to XM Online Radio

    Hello,
I recently started using an intel-based iMac OS 10.5.2. My previous computer was a PowerPC G5 operating on 10.4. On the previous computer I was able to log in and listen to XM Radio Online without any hassle. I could listen via either Firefox or Safari. And I didn't have Flip4Mac installed. The XM Online browser would simply display a miniature version of Windows Media Player and it worked fine.
As with the G5, I tried launching the XM player on the intel iMac with only Windows Media Player installed. This time (with both Safari and Firefox) I was instructed to download and install the Flip4Mac codec. However, doing this merely launches a small pop-up audio player in quicktime. Nothing happens when the play button is hit (in both browsers). And I've already Repaired the Permissions as well and still no luck.
    Any help is appreciated.

Yes I have used XM online, and I've always had difficulties getting it to play, even going back to Tiger.
I was just trying to point out there's a general case bug when using the Flip4Mac player with any WMV stream or video that it can go into a tight loop and suck up CPU resources until you quit Safari, though according to Telestream that's been fixed in version 2.2.0.49R of their plugin, available for download here.

  • Problem Converting Keynote Quicktime to WMV with Flip4Mac

    HI All
I can see that perhaps one other person may have had this issue. I have a continuous presentation exported from Ketnote as a Quicktime Movie. This plays from end to end without a hitch.
I am using Flip4Mac to convert to WMV, something I have done on many occasions with other QT files without issue (not from Keynote)
The resulting file only exports to the first transition in the Keynote presentation.
I have made the quicktime continuous (so it does not stop at slide changes) I have tried un-checking the sprite track option.
Pretty much every combination but it still always only exports to the first transition.
Any clues ? What am I missing ?
    Thanks for your help

    Hi
yes it does however I have been messing around over the weekend and have got some of the way to solving this.
Sorry its a bit long and convoluted but here goes.
I extracted the video and audio tracks as suggested below and made a new flattened movie.
I then found a utility to remove all the chapter markers from Ecamm Network.
This removed every chapter (slide) marker.
I then re-saved and made a WMV from that file. It exported until the last transition and stopped !! ( I checked with the orig file)
So I then converted the end section to WMV and joined the 2 WMV files together in Quicktime Pro.
This then played happily from end to end.
BUT you cant then save that as a WMV ! Quicktime exports it again as a .mov
So I thought that .mov must work if I convert that to wmv but no, stops in the exact same place.
There is no sprite track no chapters but there must be some other metadata that is upsetting Flip4Mac
    Anyway closer than I was.
Cant import to FCP or use DV as despite setting the frame rate to 25 in Keynote it actually exports at 22 so any 'video' frame rates make the animation very jerky as you would expect.
thanks for you help though everyone
    Neil

  • Quicktime 7.1.3, Flip4mac and Microsoft mpeg 4...Workaround

Quicktime, with the aid of Flip4mac will no longer play movies encoded with Microsoft ISO MPEG-4 V1 after the update to QT 7.1.3.
This is a known issue with the Flip4mac people and I'm sure that a fix is on the way soon.
In the meantime a workaround is moviepod:
    http://www.nullriver.com/index/products/moviepod
The trick is to first deselect 'decode movies using Quicktime' in the preferences
The converted movie will then play etc in Quicktime

    Folks,
If you're having problems with QT 7.1.3 and Flip4Mac go to the following forum
    http://www.flip4mac.com/fusetalk/forum/
Go to the forum titled WMV Desktop Playback and post there.
They'll have to give you FTP info so you can upload the file for them to test.
I just tested a bunch of asf files on my system with QT 7.1.3 and they do all work. There can be various codecs that have .asf extenstion so they'll have to test the files you send to see wazup.

  • Conky with Gnome3 and dock plugin

    Hi,
This is how my Conky looks like in Gnome3 with Gnome-Shell. I am using following preferences:
    own_window_class Conky
    own_window yes
    own_window_type conky
    own_window_transparent yes
    own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager
While using dock, when application is maximized there is still a part of desktop background visible (the part of desktop above the Firefox icon on my screenshot). What I want to achieve is to use this spare space for conky.
    I tried following configurations:
    # Text alignment, other possible values are commented
    alignment top_left
    # Gap between borders of screen and text
    gap_x 1500
    and:
    # Text alignment, other possible values are commented
    alignment top_right
    # Gap between borders of screen and text
    gap_x -200
unfortunatelly none of above were working. Conky stays as shown on screenshot (even if I change the "gap_x" value to "2000" or "-500"). Any ideas how to move conky 50 pixels right?

    Try commenting out own_window_hints.
When I moved to GNOME 3, I experienced the same problem, although my grip was the inability to use ctrl+alt+up/down if I stayed on an empty desktop with conky running.

  • Creating wmv with flip4mac

    Hi,
I want to transform material filmed with Sony XDCam EX3 1920 x 1080 25fps 1080i50 35Mb/s VBR into wmv for using it with power point.
With flip4mac and compressor transforming is quite easy, but to get good quality quite complicated, I think.
I get files with quality much inferior than my original. Does anybody has got some ideas or advice?
What do I have to consider most? There is a good tutorial here:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/encoding_windows_flip4mac_gary.html
But it doesn't explain the bitrate I have to choose, or the size.
    Thanks a lot!
    Paula

I believe I actually have the correct answer to this. To convert my HD EX1 files to WMV I use Flip4Mac HD. I use the following settings:
    Two pass, variable bit rate
    Quality 90
    Bit rate 1500 kb/sec
size 960x540  (although you can use 640x360) I do this because most of my end users don't have a 1920x1080 screen.
Then "advanced" Interlace upper. Because I shoot interlaced.
I get really, really nice WMV's from this which all of my end users can use in Power Point.
I got these settings from someone else on one of these forums after many hours of trying myself.
I also agree that H.264 files look better but they don't work worth **** on a PC with Power point.
    Hope this helps.

  • Quicktime VR crash with Quicktime Player and QuickTime Plugin.plugin or

I made a few Quitcktime VR with PhotoWarp 2.5.7 and included them on web pages a year ago, everything was working.
Checking today, webpages (with QuicktimePlugin.plugin) as well as local QTVR files .mov (with QuicktimePlayer7) crashe players.
I installed Quicktime7 on WindowsXP, same thing.
I tried to find some other QTVR on the web and I found one that works even if I include it on a page of my website (???).
    Example :
    1.files produce from photowrap : http://www.pxo.ch/index.php?page=72&obj=112
2.files found on the web in the same page (same code) : http://www.pxo.ch/index.php?page=72&obj=111
The second seems to work (sometimes crash anyway), but the first one is crashing everytime.
I did not find much information about the problem on the web.

It looks like the software I use to generat QTVR is out of date : PhotoWarp 2.5.7 that came with my 360°lens. I'm surprise there are still selling it... no comment.
I found then a great soft that is able to generate QTVR from a cylindric image. This soft is not only exporting .mov, but also Flash AND HTML5/CSS3 for iPhone and iPad ! I tested everything and it work perfectly.
The soft is called Pano2VR, is made by GardenGnomeSoftware, and work on every platforms.
So what I have to do now is generate cylindric images with PhotoWarp and then generate QTVR with Pano2VR... Huge work for ALL the QTVRs I have on the web !!!
Sorry Ekapon, but it's probably what you will have to do with yours...
And still no communication from Apple on this case.

i can't open swf files for schoolwork. Installed VCL, Flip4Mac and Adobe flash and shockwave players. Can get white screen with connection erro message with adobe flash player. Help me!

  • HT204382 i downloaded a movie with .avi and also downloaded the flip4mac and still wont work. what do i do?

someone help please.  i downloaded a movie and it said it wont play because a plug in was missing.  i downloaded flip4mac and still will not work. please help.

There is no single codec for movies that have .avi extensions. AVI is a container format, not a specific type of file. An AVI movie may use one of the Indeo codecs (there are at least four that I'm aware of, none of which have been ported to Mac OS X) or one of the various flavors of DivX, among other possibilities. You'll have to find out what codec was used for the movies you want to view to determine what you need. Note that not all codecs for the various .avi movies are available for QuickTime.
If you want to try "hit and miss", Perian, which rolls several codecs into one package, might work. If not, you can try the codecs at http://www.divx.com/ and http://www.3ivx.com/ and see if one of them will work for you. Do not install both Perian and the DiVX/3iVX codecs at the same time.
If you just want to play the movie any way you can, you can also give this player a try:

  • QuickTime Player Problem with iWeb v3.0.4 and Safari v5.1.2

iWeb v3.0.4 published web site with Safari v5.1.2:
I'm in the process of creating a web site (www.koinonia.com) using iWeb v3.0.4.  There is an inserted QuickTime element on the home page which is playing an mp3 music file.  The QuickTime player (Show movie controller option in iWeb) does not work with Safari v5.1.2 (but does work fine with Firefox v9.0.1).  There should be a Movie Controller below the album jpeg image, but is not there with Safari.  Also, the movie (mp3 audio file) does not play automatically (plays fine with Firefox).  This looks to be a bug with Apple's iWeb / Safari applications.
Does anyone know how to get the QuickTime element to play with Safari v5.1.2?
    Thanks

Safari 5 running in Snow Leopard has been a problem for me. It screws up html, loads a distorted control bar in HTML5 and crashes every now and again when I do a Google search. Reporting these issues is a waste of time as the latest update had no fix. I test all my pages in Firefox and Chrome and don't bother much with Safari since less than 3% use it.
I have the same issue as the OP. The file will only load in Safari if the page is open in Firefox at the same time.
This problem arose over a year ago and is related to files imported from iTunes via the media browser. If the OP will confirm that the file came from iTunes, I will have a look at the meta data to see if there's anything there that iTunes has added.
The only time I am forced to use iTunes is for apps that don't allow import from the finder such as certain situations in Keynote. Otherwise, I wish it would disappear down a black hole in the universe along with Windows and Internet Explorer.
I converted the file to MP4 with QT Pro to prove the point that its the actual MP3 file that is causing the problem - along with Safari.
I haven't depended on the QT Plugin for playing media for quite some time now. HTML5 now works in all modern browsers and should also work in IE 8 if the HTML5 Shiv is included in the head of the page.
Its also a breeze to get flexible movies in responsive web design using HTML 5...
    http://www.ezmacwebdesign.com/Music-Website/index.html
I don't bother too much with flash fallback anymore since these designs are mainly for mobile devices and I can ignore those who are reluctant to upgrade their out of date browsers.

  • Quicktime 7.6 and Perian 1.1.3

Please excuse my starting a new thread, but as its my first post... What the heck!
There seems to be a lot of discussion on here about QT 7.6 problems, so I just wanted to add my pennyworth, because it has led me a right merry dance down the garden path and without the Apple Discussion Forums; a vital source of information, it may have never been solved?
I have an old iBook G3 running OSX 10.4.11 (Ok, i've heard all the jibes...), so obviously if I want to watch QT movies, I encode accordingly (~320x240@800kbps)... Then... after updating to 7.6 and Perian 1.1.3 the frame rate on these files would drop to Zero?
    So...
    1. My computer is too slow?
    2. Quicktime/ Perian/ Component conflicts etc... ?
    3. Hard drive space/ De-fragmentation/ Dashboard hogging CPU etc... ?
Therefore, after trying VLC (they played reasonably well); removing possible conflicting components including Perian; reverting to QT 7.5.5 via Pacifist; cleaning up the Hard Drive... and... Nothing! So... reaching for credit card... New Computer... Nope! (Ok admittedly, I am rambling here... sorry, first post remember)
Eventually, after reading more on Perian issues, I began looking for a previous version...
    see post...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1894108&tstart=30
And after installing version 1.1.2, all the movies were once again restored to their perfectly smooth playback... so, no new computer for me then?
Special thanks, to all the people who post useful advice on these discussion forums...

Kind of an interesting problem, like needing a typewriter ribbon or Gestetner fluid.
LOL. Especially since presumably the OP wants to have this work with the new computer. More like trying to get an electric typewriter to act as the printer for a new Mac. Mind you, if you can find the codec it might actually work. I'm too cheap to buy QT Pro but I find that a lot of the new QT codecs are accessible in my version of Movie Player 2.5.1 (ca. OS 8.1?) I run in Classic.

  • Problem with connecting and syncing   (quicktime.qts)

    Hi,
I have a problem with connecting and syncing my Iphone to itunes.
iphone alone on PC -> uploading files (fotos) is possible
itunes starts normaly, if iphone is not conected.
if i connect iphone after starting itunes, or if i start itunes after connecting iphone i get an itunes-error with message:
    AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 9.0.2.25 ModName: quicktime.qts
    ModVer: 7.65.17.80 Offset: 00909a47
    i test different things...
    - used another USB-port
    - used another PC
    - used macbook of my wife instead PC
    - deinstalled and new installed of itunes (older and newer versions) folow tutorials of apple
    - use another USB-Cable...
    I'm resigned, Please help me..
    Tom

    AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 9.0.2.25 ModName: quicktime.qts
In this context, that can sometimes indicate trouble with a content file on the phone (or Touch).
Do you have any podcasts stored on the iPhone at the moment? If so, if you delete them from the phone, can you connect to iTunes without the error?
