Quicktime 7.2 won't install on 10.4.8

Hi,
I'm having a problem with installing quicktime 7.2 I'm using Avid Xpress pro and I have QT 7.0 I download 7.2 and when I tried installing it tells me that it will only run on 10.4.9 (I run 10.4.8 and can't upgrade because Avid don't support well 10.4.9) I read that 7.2 should run from 10.3.9 so I have no clue what is the problem?
Hope you can help me
Thank you

You don't have 10.3.9 though.
You have 10.4.8. It runs from 10.3.9 and 10.4.9 (or 10).
Not 10.3.9 and every version bigger than that or they would not have said 10.4.9 but simply 10.3.9 and 10.4 and higher.

  • Quicktime 7.1 won't install with MS06-015 on Windows Server 2003

Quicktime 7.1 will not install correctly on Windows Server 2003 with MS06-015 - Vulnerability in Windows Explorer Could Allow Remote Code Execution installed.
We have tried this on at least 6 machines. All fail at the last step in the install process with the following error:
    "Unhandled Exception:
    Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL function call crashed: QTInstallCode.QuickTimePostInstallProc
    Setup will now terminate"
This leaves Quicktime (and iTunes if installed) broken.
Removing MS06-015 allows Quicktime 7.1 to be installed but leaves the gaping holes fixed by MS06-015 wide open - not a good place to be.
It's more than likely that this is caused by Quicktime 7.1 being blocked by Verclsid.exe which is installed by MS06-015. See this Knowledge base article - You may experience problems in Windows Explorer or in the Windows shell after you install security update MS06-015 for more information.
Can anyone else please confirm this or better still can this please be fixed?
    Cheers,
    Sim

    G'day Sam
First I gonna tell you don't try this at work Server...
I had try this on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and it work fine/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic_ __/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
After I had been test and test..... Look like QT-7.1 doesn't like(Shell32.dll Ver. 6.00.3790.2662).
There is way to fix this problem.
    1. Send me an email, I will send you back (Shell32.dll Ver.6.0.3790.2534)<< This version working with QT-7.1 after I uninstall all the HotFix Update that relate to Shell32.dll.
How to replace this dll file
Don't use Search to find this file.
Click into C:\ and type in the Address bar C:\windows\system32\ then find the current Shell32.dll > Rename it to some thing else, just incase if it not working for you, so you still have the orignal file.
Then copy the file I send you to the System32 folder.
Restart you PC and try to install again....
    Good Luck
Let me know if it not working...
    Cheer...

  • QuickTime 7.4 won't install

I was trying to install the latest Itunes on my Winxp computer, and as soon as it got to the part where QuickTime was to supposed install, it refused.
So, I tried to install the standalone version of QuickTime, and it refused to install either. I had previously uninstalled the old version of ITunes and QuickTime and all the folders, with the exception of the QuickTimeVR folder and the QuickTime folder in the Windows System32 folder because the weren't there.
The only message I got was "QuickTime Installer Completed. The installer encountered errors before the requested operations for QuickTime could be completed."
    There were no error codes.
I hope you will not say that I have to wipe out my hard drive, and start over, the prospect is very daunting.
    Can you help?

  • QuickTime ActiveX Control won't install

I just downloaded and installed the newest version of QuickTime (QuickTime 7.6 with iTunes for Windows XP or Vista). Using Internet Explorer, I then tried to open a link to a web page that has a QuickTime video file. I get the information bar message asking me to install the ActiveX Control. I click on "Install ActiveX Control", get the I.E. the security warning "Do you want to install QuickTime from Apple Inc", hit the "Install" button, but nothing seems to happen, and the video doesn't come on. I've gone through the steps several times, with no success.

Your download may have been corrupted in some way. Try Trashing that download an doing another.
While the download is occurring use the Disk Utility app to "repair" permissions on your drive.

  • Itunes won't install on my PC

I'm able to download the 35mb installer file for Itunes and quicktime, but it won't install.I get the same error message : Could not access network location itunes/.
    Any suggestions ?

That message suggests that the installer is getting damage during the download.
Try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?
If you can't get a working installer via the standard download links, try the following download links instead:
    iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe
    iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe

  • QuickTime Won't Install, Can't Find Newer Version OSX 10.4.11

When QuickTime 7.6 released, the update caused problems on my Mac PPC G5 (OSX Tiger 10.4.11). I deleted it. I attempted to reinstall an older version of QT that I knew functioned. This was over a year ago. It didn't work. As it was not urgent, I forgot about it.
Now, there is software I want to use that relies on QT being installed.
Running into the same problem with the installation. It's a Catch-22 situation.
*The QT 7.5.5 Installer won't install because "a newer version is already installed".*
*However, attempts to run ANY software or movie or whatnot that uses QT tells me the opposite, that QT is NOT installed.*
I have searched the computer's furthest corners trying to dig out components and packages and it STILL insists QT is installed. I've searched on every possible variation of QuickTime, Quicktime, quicktime, qt, you name it. NOTHING.
What am I missing? How do I get this to work? I've no intention of upgrading to Leopard just yet.
    Thanks in advance.

    What am I missing?
As far as I know, the installing software still checks the "Library > Receipts" folder to read a history of which package updates have been installed rather than searching to see if the actual app is installed. Have you deleted the receipt ".pkg" files equal to or newer than the one you currently wish to install. However, remember this approach assumes that any "patches" applied in the ordinary upgrade process will not create a conflict within the embedded QT structure when reinstalling an older version--which may or may not be true here. (I.e., QT is no longer an independent application or software package but rather an integrated part of the operating system.) The safest approach is to re-install an older version of the entire OS and upgrade the system as it was meant to be updated to the level at which you wish to operate.

  • Quicktime 7 won't install on Mac 10.6.4?!?

    Hi there,
I'm trying to install QuickTime 7 (Pro) on my new MacBook Pro (10.6.4) and I'm having issues. I downloaded QuickTime 7 and tried to install it, but it would not allow because I had a previous version of QuickTime installed. I then uninstalled / deleted QuickTime X, and to my surprise, 7 would STILL not install.
How can I get QuickTime 7 installed when 10.6.4 won't allow it? I heard theres a way to trick it with Quicktime X, but now that its uninstalled...I cant seem to get it back or find a download for it...
    Someone help! Please.

Is it not possible to use my Quicktime 7 Pro license with Quicktime 10, if so how, if not what's the point, or advantages of Quicktime 10, seems strange to have to have 2 versions, or am i missing something here. ??????

  • QuickTime won't install/uninstall

At home I use a Mac as indicated.
At work, I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I've been trying to get the latest version of QuickTime to install. I get "A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed." First, this is not true, I have QuickTime 7.1. I cannot uninstall QuickTime because I seem to be missing the install package. I've now deleted all the QuickTime files and removed the entries from the Registry. However, somewhere the installer is still finding an installation of QuickTime. I have administrator rights. Does anyone have suggestions?

I ran the Microsoft Fix-It Tool located at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651, as referenced by Dianne 13, and it worked PERFECTLY!
An update to QuickTime would not install on my PC; I kept getting a message that it "ecountered an error". I tried installing the update manually; I was told a newer version was already installed, and the installation could not be completed. QuickTime wouldn't even open; I got the same message about a newer version, so I tried running the uninstaller, both from the Start Menu shortcut and from within Control Panel - neither worked. The uninstaller told me it encountered an error & couldn't continue.
I ran the Microsoft Fix-It tool that Dianne 13 posted the link to, and it uninstalled QuickTime without any problem whatsoever, and the new version of QuickTime was able to then install.

  • Unable to update QuickTime, won't install update, can't uninstall - HELP!

Firefox (20.0.1) say need to update QuickTime. Properties show current version 7.6.4. Update button takes to download 7.7.3. It downloads ok, but will not install, says newer version already installed. Didn't find newer update than 7.7.3. Tried to uninstall QuickTime, says have more current version, need uninstall newer first. Tried Windows Vista help, looked through Community questions, still unable to find resolution. Supposed newer version not show in Programs, only updates can find are Windows. Not tech savvy enough to go further without guidance. If no fix available, suggestion for alternate program that does same job would be very welcome!

  • ITunes won't install due to quicktime

I don't know if anyone else has this problem, however i cannot install itunes on my computer anymore. Everytime i try it tells me that my version of quicktime is too new! i have quicktime version 7.2, trying to install itunes 8.1 and if i uninstall everything, the iTunes install freak out too!
I am totally confused! Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
    thanks

    badalki,
I take it your not using Apple Update, Correct? If so What you could try doing is uninstall Quicktime and then try and install both from the stand alone installer found: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    Hope that helps.

  • Quicktime plugin won't install as Firefox plugin

I've downloaded and successfully installed the latest version (7.6.5) of Quicktime (standalone version).
However when I try to view a page requiring Quicktime in my Firefox browser, it says "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page." If I click the link it opens a dialog box "Plugin Finder Service" which shows Apple Quicktime as being available. When I click Next to install it it says the plugin is not available, with a link for Manual Install. Clicking that sends me to the same webpage I previously downloaded/installed Quicktime from. Further, checking the Firefox Plugins page shows I have Quicktime Plugin 7.6.5 installed and enabled.
Any ideas as to what the problem is?

What version of Firefox are you using? Maybe Firefox is blocking the plugin? At the Tools -> Options -> Applications is there an option to use the Quicktime plugin?

  • ITunes/Quicktime won't install

I try to download iTunes and half way through it says that there was an error downloading Quicktime and that iTunes can not run without Quicktime. I have tried installing it a few times as well as trying to download it from filehippo with no luck. I tried downloading Quicktime by itself with no luck. I try to uninstall quicktime completely and I get an error "Fatal Error During Installation" even though I'm trying to UnInstall. All pop-up blockers and security programs were turned off during this, as I have been told that they may block iTunes from installing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • Quicktime and iTunes Won't Open after updating to iTunes 7.3.1

So this morning I downloaded iTunes 7.3.1, but I winged it as usual. And I only winged it because the option to upgrade was in Korean, and for some reason I can't change it to English. But anyway, I updated as usual and my computer restarted. Then I tried to open up iTunes and I got a error report. And it took me to a Windows Error Reporting and said the problem was my hard drive. And said to go to run, type in EVENTVWR, and double click on application and than double click on an event ID of 1005. That didn't work, so of course my iTunes and Quicktime(which won't install even after I tried to repair it) arn't having a temp. problem. So I tried the second solution and typed in CMD after I clicked run. And then a black window popped up and I was suppose to type in chkdsk /f, but when I tried to start typing the window just closed itself. And after I got home this evening, I tried opening iTunes and it said to reinstall iTunes and I did. So I tried opening it agains after I reinstalled it, and the same error popped up and quicktime still will not open.
So any suggestions on what to do?

Okay. That's looking like a badly broken QuickTime (although it's not the most common message people see under those circumstances).
So we'd better try swapping out your existing QuickTime. Since it's giving you "fatal errors", it's unlikely that you'll be able to use Add/remove Programs to uninstall it. So we'll try getting it out of there by other means.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC (Run CleanUp, find "QuickTime in the entries in CleanUp, select the QuickTime entry and click "Remove"):
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?
