QuickTime 7.2 Won't Load Movies

I've used QuickTime as my primary video preview application, daily, for some time now. Since the recent QuickTime update, the applications seems to be performing horribly. Standard MPEG4 files that previously worked fine now take in excess of three minutes to load into QuickTime. This goes for Finder preview panes as well. I have tried deleting and reinstalling QuickTime to no avail.
More often than not, trying to launch these files hangs the application, demanding a Force Quit and trying again. Oddly, streaming videos seem to work as usual.
I would greatly appreciate any help on this matter.
Thanks!

A. Lee, I've also seen this problem on my new Vista PC. My other PC running Media Center 2005 has no problem playing videos with 7.2. This appears to be a Vista problem. I uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime, along with painfully removing all entries in my registry, then reinstalled Quicktime by itself. All .mov and .mp4 files drive the hard drive for about a minute then appear for 2 sec and play. I never get any video, but get about 2-4 sec of music about every 30 sec. Then you can't get Quicktime to shut down.

  • QuickTime won't load .mov?

I have a number of .mov files of different ages from different sources. Ever since I upgraded to Mavericks (ver 10.9), none will open with QuickTime (ver 10.3). Double clicking on them gets me a small window that says "converting" with a progress bar. Then I get a dialog box "QuickTime Player can't open filename.mov", with an "OK" and a "Tell Me More" button. "Tell Me More" just sends me to the page that tells me the files QuickTime will load.
Looking at the Get Info > More Info, some of these movies have a VP6F, MPEG Layer 3 codec; some have H264, AAC codecs.
I tried opening them with VLC (ver 2.1.2). Some will play; with others I get audio only.

Basically, you have multiple problems. The first is the fact that QT X v10.3 only supports a very limited set of compression formats compared to previous versions of QT X. The second appears to be the loss of certain support codecs—the access for which was orphaned during the Mavericks upgrade or which were deleted as part of the upgrade process. In addition, since you indicate that some of the problem files are H.264/AAC MOV files, it would appear that they may be hybrid or non-standard encodings since standard encodings should automatically open directly in QT X v10.3 and not trigger the MovieModernizer/Convert routines.
You have two primary options here. The first would be to determine what support package was lost and re-install or reconnect access to it allowing QT X v10.3 to auto-convert the files or you can re-establish the required support access and use the free QT 7 Player v7.6.6 to play the files without conversion using the 32-bit QT structure still embedded in the Mavericks OS.

  • Quicktime Pro Really Slow to Load Movies

    Hi,
Anyone have any idea why after getting Quicktime pro it is so slow to load movies? I have an iMac with 2Gigs of Ram, less than a year old...
I read about the disk permissions thing, but it doesn't seem to have helped...
    Thanks in advance!

I don't know if this is still a problem for you, but I first noticed it when I upgraded to 7.2 in Tiger.
It seems that QT is loading the whole movie into RAM before it starts playing. This is really annoying with long movies, the beachball just spins until QT has loaded all 350 megs into a buffer somewhere. I've started using VLC instead. No settings that I can find will alter this behaviour, and I've tried moving various third-party plug-ins around to no avail.
Note: the behaviour persists with QT 7.3 in Tiger (10.4.10) but seems to have been fixed in Leopard (10.5). Since I'm slowly migrating to Leopard, I guess the problem is semi-solved.

  • Quicktime X Won't Load movies with AC3 track

Not sure if anyone else has seen this, it is more than likely that this is the case but maybe some people don't realise it.
Any movie file I have that has an ac3 track on it will not open in quicktime player x for me, but will work in quicktime player 7. When I use quicktime player 7 to completely remove the ac3 track (not just disabling it, that doesn't work), it will open fine in QT X. If I open a file that I ripped from DVD 6 months ago, quicktime x will open it fine as there is no AC3. A file I ripped yesterday won't open as it has AC3.
I tried to call the apple helpline but they were next to useless, considering the chap thought I wanted to put a password on quicktime when I talked about passthrough, and then directed me to download quicktime 7, like I hadn't used it to diagnose the issue!
Has anyone else encountered this issue, and more importantly does anyone know how to fix it, apart from using quicktime 7?

Another questions occurs to me: May I use Quicktime 7 for playing MPEG-2 videos with audio AC3 files? Or do I need Quicktime 7 Pro? And where do I get these applications -- if they will solve the problem? Do I have these applications on my Snow Leopard DVD? I checked my utilities folder and they are not in there. Will QT 7 and QT 7 Pro even work with Snow Leopard? I'm new to Mac and very confused, obviously.

  • Quicktime V7.4 won't play movie rentals

I upgraded to QT 7.4 and now iTunes won't play my movie rentals. It just somes me the movie with no sound. I have even gone so far as to uninstall 7.4 and install 7.1, but then the movie won't play at all, just goes to the iTunes store and then stops, doing nothing. Can anyone help? Much appreciated.

I was having the same problem but just found a solution for IE. You need to make sure the QuicktimeCheck Class addon is enabled. Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Manage Addons. (Addons currently loaded in Internet Explorer)
I am not sure how this got disabled but enabling it got rid of the "Get the latest Quicktime" message and allowed me to view trailers once again.

  • Firefox won't load .mov files online but plays them locally: QT problem?

My website has several pages with embedded .mov files, which used to play perfectly well, but now only give a question mark after the progress bar fills up.
For example, one of these pages is http://www.paulozelinsky.com/shivers-animation2a.html
Firefox can open this and similar pages that are stored in my computer (on a mirror of the site) and view the animations normally. But online it doesn't work. Typing the path to the online animation file into Firefox's URL field also produces an empty QuickTime window with a question mark, so it's not a matter of the page code.
Is it possible that QuickTime's plugin isn't compatible with Firefox, at least for .mov files like mine? (Created with After Effects 7, using Sorensen 3 codec). Does Firefox use plugins in the same way for playing a file on a web server as playing it in a local folder? Or could there be something going on with my web host?
I would at least like to know if this failure to load the animation is the same for other Mac Firefox users. I have heard that the animation does load, though slowly, for at least one PC Firefox user.
When I first noticed the change, the problem was occurring in Safari as well as Firefox, but now it is only in Firefox.
    I have Firefox 3.6.8, and in HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins I have QuickTime Plugin.plugin v. 7.6.6. I also see in there something called nsIQTScriptablePlugin.xpt.

Bump, bump. Please can anybody help?

  • Quicktime 7.5 Won't Play Movie Trailers!

    Hi:
I'm new to this forum. I'm having trouble with my "Free" Quicktime player. When I go to the Quicktime movie trailer website and click on the HD movie trailer button nothing happens at all and when I click on the normal movie trailer buttons a window pops up/opens that has the words "Get the latest Quicktime". I have the latest Quicktime 7.5
I have been using Quicktime for quite some time now after upgrading from v7.4.5.67 I have NOT been able to play any movie trailers on the Quicktime movie trailer website. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it a couple times to no avail.
What can I do to fix this problem????

  • Xcode 4.6.1 won't load .mov movies with latest iMac

    G'day
I've got a project in Xcode where I want to loop a small movie (.mov format). If the project is opened and saved on an older Mac, then run on mine, the movies load and run ok.
However, if built a project on my new iMac, the .mov movies refuse to be loaded in the Quicktime Player Window in the build phase.
My iMac is a 27" i7, 3.4 GHz, with 32 GB ram, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB graphics card, and 3TB fusion drive.
I believe the iMac might be the problem, but I can't re-load Xcode from the App Store, as it keeps saying it's installed, even after trashing it.
If any using XCode with a similar mac can try the procedure, I'd appreciate it. The attached image is where the refusal occurs.
BTW, anyone know how to re-download XCode?

Well, I downloaded the Sorenson.mov from your suggested site xnav, and it didn't work either.
In addition, I've completely re-installed XCode, to no avail.
It looks like it's boiling down to the 'Choose' dialog, with the NVidia card.
Weirdly, I can choose the altered graphic from the expanded .zip file that was saved from an older Mac, from my main App, and it's selected. If I then delete the expanded .zip project,  I'm told that the resource has been removed in my main project, and do I want to keep the resource in the Quicktime panel. If I answer yes, the .mov stays in the panel.
ATM it's a difficult and kludgy workaround, and I'd like a definitive answer.
I've lodged a bug, and hopefully someone with the same outfit as mine can verify this anomoly.
    Regards
    Santa

  • Won't load movie from PC to iPhone

I can't get a movie I purchased from iTunes to load onto my iPhone. Everything else syncs just fine. Anyone have a similar issue?

There should be TWO copies of the movie in itunes, you need to select the copy for the iphone/ipod to sync to your phone.

  • My quicktime 10.1 won't play movies.

I recently got a Macbook pro OS X Lion and for the past few months have had problems with trying to run movies on Quicktime 10.1. My videos files are usualy .AVI but when I try to click on it quick time opens and then tells me that it can't read the file. Can anyone help? I've search the internet for answer and have tried a lot of differnt solutions that others have had success on (incuding updating Perian and trying to convert the .AVI file to .MOV) yet I still have had no such luck.
    Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

Maybe you could try to reinstall the QuickTime?
It's OK to play other videos, right? Actually QuickTime only plays these AVI or WMV files that both the audio and the video were compressed by a codec that QuickTime can recognize. If the audio or video, or both were created using codecs that QuickTime could not recognize, you might get an error.
If tried all the solutions and still have problem to play the videos, then how about turn to the video converter?
maybe a video converter like this http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/avi-converter/id479723316?mt=12 can do a favor for you?

I've used the support tips on Adobe's site and my flash player still will not load anything.

Besides posting over on Google's forums, you might also want to try closing your browsers and deleting the following folder:

  • Quicktime won't load - along with another program

Fairly new computer, programs already on machine work fine and load with no problem. I installed ULead VS 10+, installed no prob, but won't load. Switched to Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0, install fine, won't load. Downloaded the latest Quicktime, installed fine, won't load. Had my firewall/AV off when installing and trying to load. The weird thing is, I installed Abdobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 and it worked fine. Also installed Window Washer and it works fine. Trying to figure out if something on my machine is not allowing certain programs to load b/c of a Quicktime file?

Think I might've discovered part of the problem. I'm seeing a Quicktime for Windows (32 bit) under my Add/Remove Progams. Can't remove it there, tells me it can't find a current version of QT, if I have an older version I can use the QT installer to remove it. Tried using the windows uninstall through All Programs, but get same error message. Tried using Add/Remove to get rid of my current 7.1.3 version, but it comes up with a fatal error message. How can I remove the QT 32 bit and the QT 7.1.3? I think if I could get rid of all that and reinstall 7.1.3, that might solve my prob.

Since loading fcp 10.0.6 when I share the movie I can't open it in quicktime even though it is a .mov file. Any help??

Can you give us the details of your project, codec etc.
Can you check the drive you are exporting the master file to and the file itself for permissions and specifications.
Have you tried opening the file with something like VLC

  • QuickTime suddenly won't load trailers embedded in webpages via safari

    Hi all,
Suddenly, QuickTime won't load trailers or movies embedded in webpages via safari. Can someone help?

Vanessa, did you try the suggestions already mentioned in this thread?
Never post your email address in a public forum. Spam bots roam public forums looking for "spam victims".
If you insist on using your email address in a public forum & you want to "trick" the spam bots, then suggest that instead of using "@ "in the email address, use instead the actual word AT.
Regarding responding to your emal addy, we ask that you post all questions to the appropriate discussion forum. This allows other users and other helpers to have a chance to view and respond to your post. That way, everyone benefits from the exchange.
