Quicktime 7.4 solved my HDV 720p24 capture problem

Ok so I know there are problems with quicktime 7.4 and after effects in leopard, but since I'm not using any after effects or leopard on my project I took the plunge. A little back info: finished movie in FCP 6.0.2 dual 2.0 G5 5gb ram Decklink HD 3Tb x-raid os 10.4.11 ,print to tape HDV 720p24 recording onto a JVC BR HD50 deck, attempted recapture immediately after print to tape was done and would get time-code break on recapture.( Pulled out lots of hair, read lots of similar threads of others also going suddenly bald) I read post after post about this but no answers on 7.4 so here is mine. After updating to quicktime 7.4 print to tape and recapture worked perfect for my 89 min movie. _*If you don't use after effects*_ it seems to be safe to upgrade to 7.4 to solve some HDV capture issues with the JVC HDV deck.

Then, the Debreaker that comes with the latest iSquint will definitely fix your problem. iSquint and several other applications were creating invalid .mp4 files when specifically converting from .flv's. The author has discovered this and released the latest version that patches his app so that it now creates standard .mp4's AND has released the Debreaker app that will fix the files created by HIS app, and by other apps suffering from the same problem.
(The reason why they work in older QuickTime is because that version wasn't properly checking for valid file information. The latest version does)

  • Gy 101 HDV 25p capture problem.

    Hi Guys
    Since the FCP upgrade we have been capturing with the GY 101 in HDV 25p, but we have found a capturing issue.....
    If we try to "capture now" and capture the tape, the DV start stop detect splits it up into a number of clips. The first clip time codes ends on something like 00:00:10:00 but the second clip does not start till 00:00:16:00. We keep loosing 6ish seconds on all clips.
    Switching start stop detect off does not work, the start stop detect still operates, and setting in and out points and capturing does not work... the start stop detect continues to work still.... Arrrgh!
    This problem is on two G5 towers and a MacBookPro.
    Any ideas how to capture our tapes fully? Or anyone else having this problem?

    This may not help much, but I too have had the same problem with my hd-gy100u at 720 30p. From what I'm reading FCP is reading the shot marker that the camera is putting on tape at the beginning of every shot. Simply shuting off the new clip at break feature doesn't help.
    What I have had to do is go back in and redigitize my video while watching it. When I notice it stop digitizing I stop the process, note the time code, rewind the tape about 8 seconds, then push play. When my time code hits the first frame of the beginning of the shot I hit NOW. FCP seems to start digitizing immediately so I don't loose that first 5 or 6 seconds of every shot that I would if I had just let it roll on it's own.
    It's not the best "fix" but I have been able to save alot of my shots that way untill a true fix comes out.

  • Exporting HDV 720p24 to .mov

    I've edited a 2 minute in HDV 720p24 and I'm trying to export using QuickTime Conversion to .mov and .flv. When its done, (on both files in both high / low res) I get "stutters" or brief jumps in my video, in general, but not always the same spots. When I bring the timeline into 16:9 SD and export from there, it looks smooth. The only issue is that I have a lot of cropped segments of video using "Motion" on my HDV timeline that are now out of position, wrong size, etc.
    Can I export out of HDV to .mov and .flv using QuickTime Conversion?
    If SD is the answer, is there a way to keep my sequence intact?
    My system is as follows:
    Mac OS X 10.5.5
    2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    FCP 5.1.4
    QuickTime 7.5.5

    Try exporting your sequence using Quicktime movie, self contained. Open the file using Quicktime, and make sure everything is ok with graphics and stuff. If the file looks fine, do an H.264 .mov export, then a flash export. Remember if using Flash 9, you can just change the .mov extension to .flv. If using earlier versions of Flash, this won't help.
    ps. I believe you can set these compressions up in compressor as well, which could save you some time.
    good luck. If this doesn't work, I have another trick you can try...

  • HDV 720p24 Export / Conversion Problems - Help!

    Greetings all,
    So I'm pulling my hair out over this problem.  I have some footage that was captured using the following settings from a JVC camera:
    Apple HDV 720p24, 1280 x 720 (1248 x 702) Millions
    16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Left, 48.000kHz
    16-bit Integer (Little Endian),Right, 48.000kHz
    FPS: 23.98
    Data Rate: 19.89
    I converted to ProRes, and brought it into Final Cut.  All is well.  The footage looks GREAT in final cut... I was able to do my edits and all that fluff and now I'm trying to export to an H.264 file for Vimeo / YouTube.
    However, I CANNOT get something that works.  I've done so many tests at this point its rediculous.  I've read through all the forums I could and still nothing is helping.
    My main problem is crazy jagged edges over all the video (some call them mouse teeth).  The audio is fine though... at least I got that right.
    I've tried de-interlacing but it didn't help.  I don't get why IN FINAL CUT the video looks so pristene, but any sort of export (even a 'send to compressor') yields a bunch of jagged and pixalated mumbo-jumbo.
    Please Help!

    Thanks for the tips guys!  Those shortcuts were helpful - and I was able to confirm that my settings indeed matched.
    I think I fixed my issue though!  My problem was in my render settings.
    Sequence--> Settings--> Render Control
    Mine was set by default to 33% for some reason.  I've done many projects in FC, but this was my first with the JVC HDV 720p stuff - so i'm guessing when FC created the session to match the video, it changed that setting as well.  I bumped it back up to 100% and all is well.
    I'm rather surprised though that FC won't render at 100% when you export or send to compressor or anything of that sort.  So anyone having the same "jagged pixelation" on output - thats probably the issue.
    Thanks again guys.  I wouldn't have stumbled upon that w/out your direction.

  • Using HDV 720p24 Easy Setup - no device control

    I am trying to capture from a tape shot on a JVC HD cam using the HDV 720p24 Easy Setup and am not able to achieve device control of the deck, which is a JVC BR-HD50.
    IS this possible?

    The deck uses HDV Firewire as it's device control, so you need to change that. The easy setup uses something else... try that, and refer to this page: http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/resources/devicelist.php for more information about that deck and FCP...

  • Capture Problems - HDV & DV

    I shot some 1080/30f HDV footage on my Canon XHA1. I decided to import as down converted DV for easier editing. I captured with the "capture now" option and then used the "dv start/stop" detection tool.
    1. Problem is that the markers are about 3-4 frames before the scene actually changed. I turned off the down convert feature and captured as native HDV, and everything worked fine. I don't know if final cut just doesn't like 30F anamorphic dv footage or what.
    2. Also, why when importing as HDV do I get multiple independent clips for each scene, but in DV downconvert, I get 1 giant clip and have to use the DV Start/stop tool?
    Just so you know, i captured via FW400 to an external Lacie 7200rpm drive. I am on FCP 5.1.4 on a Macbook Pro with OS 10.4.10.

    1. *Problem is that the markers...*
    I not sure what you mean by markers. Down converting the Canon f mode HDV to DV should produce basic DV and perhaps the time code could be shifting. Canon has a unique way of creating a Cine look.
    You should call Canon.
    2. *Also, why when importing as HDV do I get multiple independent clips....*
    Final Cut has a unique HDV *Log & Capture window* and you can control this in the *Clip Settings* tab *by un-checking the Make new clips on Start/Stop.*
    Good Luck

  • Premiere Pro 1.5.1 HDV VIDEO CAPTURE - Canon HV20

    Hi,
    For the life of me I cannot get my camera to capture in HDV. I can switch over to DV and it will capture everything just fine. The settings I recorded in are HDV standard, Widescreen 29fps. Not the 24. But it just tells me the device is ofline no matter what I try. I grabbed a stand alone CineForm HDLink and that doesn't detect it either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The Client wants HD, not DV.
    Premiere Pro 1.5.1 HDV VIDEO CAPTURE - Canon HV20 firewire
    Thanks in advance!

    Ok, I spoke to soon. I kept searching and searching.  Finally found this..
    http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?t=12131
    My camera was locked in DV mode. So I had to switch it to HDV/DV
    "b) As many have said you need to be sure that the camera is set ot output in HDV, and not DV locked. Because I am a bit of a dunce I found it difficult to locate that, even with the manual so here are some foolproof instructions on how to get there:
    in "Play" Mode > FUNC > MENU > PLAY/OUT SETUP2 > DV OUTPUT [set this to HDV/DV]"
    That did it.

  • Shoot HDV and Capture as DV ?

    I have been looking at the Canon HV20 which is able to shoot both HDV and DV.
    I assume that one could shoot HDV and capture it as DV in FCE and FCP. If this is the case, what Easy Setup would be used in both apps ?
    Also, as HDV deals with frames differently, resulting in poorer movement rendition than DV, would this mean that the captured DV's motion would not look as good as usual ?
    If that was true, it might be better shooting in DV initially ?
    Any comments or thoughts would be welcome.

    I have just remembered that 4 members of my video club recently shot a theatrical production.
    They used 4 "manned" cameras shooting SD and had a "locked" unmanned HDV camera shooting the whole of the stage.
    The theory behind it was that the locked camera footage could be used on occasions when the manned cameras did not capture ideal shots of the actors etc.
    The fact that it was HD meant that they could zoom into the appropriate section of the stage, during editing, and still end up with quality roughly equal to SD.
    Trying that with an SD camera would have resulted in a noticeable degradation of the image.
    From what I could tell from the DVD they projected, it seemed to work OK.

  • Cannon GL2 - FCE 2 and iMovie Capture Problems

    Hello Hello
    I've read here that folks are having a tough time capturing with thier Cannon GL2. The device goes from NO problem to 'Can't intiate a capture because the device looses connectivity.
    I tried to find a common denominator to this problem, and it seems this post regarding Quick Time Files can help? Yes?
    Is this the main problem?
    Anyway I'm also having connectivity issues with both iMovie 6 HD, and FCE 2
    Just wondering if I should also follow the directions on this post and have my capture problems solved?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
    BTW - I currently have Quicktime 7.0.4
    Thanx

    Hi Tom - Thanx for your reply!
    Well, yes I have (as my profile indicates), a G5 1.8 Gig, currently with an external Lacie HD plugged in. I also have a Cannon GL2.
    But before I go any further, and before I try those directions for cleansing certain Quick Time 7 Library Files, I think I figured out the dilemma.
    This problem of GL2 recognition (from what I've read), is common for folks who have similar equipment, and a similar set-up as mine:
    It seems (as I've also read here), that my G5 does NOT like 2 devices which require the same connection speed plugged into the 1394 Firewire Port at the same time - trying to share the same bus.
    I confirmed this by disconnecting the Lacie FIRST - then booting back up - and WALLAH - the GL2 was certainly receoginzed both in iMovie 6 HD, and FCE 2!
    I also further resolved the issue by buying a 'cheaper' Cannon Camcorder - the ZR500.
    Now I can actually share the Lacie HD in the Fire Wire Port with this slower connection speed camcorder. And a further benefit is giving my GL2 a rest when it comes to 'capture only'
    Does all this make sense?
    If so, perhaps I've already discovered stuff that other folks already know ...
    Thanx
    Mike

  • Capture problems please help

    I was using FCE 1.0, an old Mitsubishi U70 twin digital SVHS VCR with S-video out cables, a Canopus ADVC-55 converter and my G4 running OS 10.3.9. I was able to capture just fine. Then I upgraded. I upgraded to FCE HD and Quicktime v.7. Now I cannot capture using FCE HD. I can however capture using iMovie 3.03.
    I am getting a warning when loading FCE-HD: "Unable to locate the following external devices: Apple Firewire (720x480)"
    When I continue and finish launching the app I go into easy setup and select DV NTSC DV Converter. When I hit the setup button I get the same message as above and it asks if I want to continue but set the external device selection to none. I have tried selecting both of the Firewire Basic settings for NTSC but when I do and then attempt to capture FCE quits.
    I have disconnected all cables, turned on and off decks and restarted computers. Nothing seems to be working.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I got a mac mini and upgrade Mac OS X 10.6.x --> 10.7.5.
    However do not hearing the audio in Webpage using Silverlight.(10.6. version doing well)
    So, I found the solve this problem, that is a audio capture problem.( My device does not supported Stereo audio data).
    this is the source in audio capture using Silverlight code.
      CaptureSource source = new CaptureSource()
                            AudioCaptureDevice = CaptureDeviceConfiguration.GetDefaultAudioCaptureDevice()
                        try
                            foreach (AudioFormat af in source.AudioCaptureDevice.SupportedFormats)
                                if (af.Channels == 1 && af.BitsPerSample == 16 && af.SamplesPerSecond == 8000)
                                    source.AudioCaptureDevice.DesiredFormat = af;
                                    break;
    af.Channels is always af.Channel == 2(Stereo)
    --- the question is
    How can I caputure audio channel mono?
    If couldn`t, how can I transfered audio capture data stereo to mono?
    Please answer the question as soon as possible ^^

  • ZIU timecode/capture problems

    This is issue we've been struggling with for a couple months now, originally thinking that it was an FCP version problem. Now we have been running FCP 5.1.2, Tiger, and QT all at their latest versions still no improvment.
    The problem is we shoot a tape with our SONY HDV-Z1U and log the clips in FCP. When we go to batch capture many of about 25% of all these clips have capture problems. Final Cut detects timecode breaks and captures 2,3,4, sometimes 15 versions of these labeling them clip, clip-1, clip-2, etc....
    You can actually see these wierd glitches and jumps on the camera LCD and on the FCP capture window. Sometimes the camera will rewind itself over and over trying to find the proper IN on the tape.
    It seems like someone out there has had to run across this issue because this is such a common camera and such a common task. I'm almost worried that it's a camera problem and I don't even know where I would go to ask about something like that. I have not been albe to find any documentation that this model camera has TC problems.
    Please, help or point me in the right direction it must just add a couple years to my life!!!
    Thanks.

    I have a ZU1 and I occasionally encounter this problem, but it's usually one clip out of say 25 or 30 on a given tape. I'm never sure what causes the problem and if I simply skip the problem clip I can sometimes go back and digitize just that one last clip.
    I do know the ZU1 seems to need plenty of pre-roll in the front of the tape, but I'm assuming that's not the problem. You're using new, high quality tape, correct? Have you tried a simple head cleaning on the ZU1.

  • Is there going to be a Solution for the Capture Problem?

    I've noticed that it is not only me but Final Cut Pro is not capturing video properly, it should not be so hard to capture from my camcorder(PV-DV51), when I hit log and capture the program just quits, after reinstalling, deleting preferences, the Firewire dock is able to see the camera, I can capture with IMovie for crying out loud! so the only question left, is do I have to upgrade Quicktime 7 player to the full version? because I did not find the upgrade in final cut studio package so do I have to purchase separately?
    Thanks for the help

    "The capture problem" is not, AFAIK, striking any number of folks. At least I've not heard of it. If you're running Final Cut Studio 5, there's not a separate serial - it's a gestalt thingie upon install.
    FCP uses QuickTime to do its capturing (iMovie does not). You might try reinstalling QuickTime (don't skip any steps). Go to /Library/Receipts. Trash all QuickTime related .pkg files (Don't worry, you're only deleting receipts so that a full install will take place). Go to http://www.quicktime.com/ and download the latest installer and run it. Reboot.
