• QuickTime required. Free download on Apple Web Site

I have Snow Leopard, Quick Time X and Quick Time 7.6.3 installed on my system.
I can not see the video on Apple Web Site and get the message: "QuickTime required. Free download" and a link to download QuckTime
Why? What?

I can not see the video on Apple Web Site
Which one? Can you post a link of said video? Apple has loads of videos on their website.
Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.

why can't i play .wmv file in quicktime even after i download codec from windows? can anyone help me wit this please!!!!!

Have you done the obvious things to try to fix it: quit Quicktime then start it back up again, log out then back in, reboot.
Edit: Just read one of your later posts. If VLC won't play it, this is unrelated to Quicktime and Flip4Mac. Are you sure these wmv files are okay?

• HT1926 When I click "download" a window pops up that says "Thank you for downloading ..." but the QuickTime file is not downloaded.

Has anyone else run into this problem with downloading QuickTime (When I click "download" a window pops up that says "Thank you for downloading ..." but the QuickTime file is not downloaded.)?

I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

• Disabling Quicktime's handling of downloaded TIFF files in IE7

Prior to installing Quicktime 7, "Microsoft Office Document Imaging" was the default application used by Internet Explorer 7 to automatically open downloaded TIFF files. After installing Quicktime 7, it became the default application - which is something I most certainly do not want.
If I change (within Quicktime) the appropriate MIME content setting that disables Quicktime's handling of TIFF files, Internet Explorer continues to use Quicktime for displaying TIFF files. Same thing happens if I configure Quicktime to not be the default application used for opening TIFF files. If I disable the Quicktime ActiveX control in Internet Explorer and then try to view a TIFF file downloaded via Internet Explorer, I get an error message to the effect that the Quicktime ActiveX control is disabled.
The only way I can solve the problem is to uninstall Quicktime.
Is there some other solution I'm missing?

I needed to change the CLSID entry in the following two registry keys from that of Quicktime's to that of Microsoft Office Document Imaging:
HKEYCLASSESROOT -> MIME -> Database -> Content Type -> image/tiff
and
HKEYCLASSESROOT -> MIME -> Database -> Content Type -> image/x-tiff
The Quicktime installer changes the CLSID entry in both these registry keys to its own, irrespective of how one configures Quicktime at the time of installation. After installation, the Quicktime settings control panel also fails to switch these CLSID settings from Quicktime back to the default, and that control panel seems to simply ignore any changes made by the user as regards these settings.
Alas, while this solution solved the problem on my personal computer, it has not solved the problem on a large corporate network of PCs where I work - and the only reliable solution thus far has been to request the network admins to permanently uninstall Quicktime.

• Is Quicktime Upgrade required to download music from itunes?

I recently upgraded to the nweer version to itunes. Then a couple of weeks later a receive a messsge telling me that an upgrade for quicktime is available. I choose to ignore this pop up. The next time I go to itunes to download music I get an error message telling me the required folder could not be found, err= -120 anyone know if the is could happen becuase I did not up grade my Quicktime?

Not directly, no. You can only really transfer via iCloud or iTunes. Even then it isn't "transferring it" from iPad to the nano but in fact syncing the nano to the same iTunes library as used with the iPad, or downloading from iCloud to both devices (theoretically in this case).

• How to Stop Quicktime from Opening when Downloading a Song?

I'm trying to download a song from an artists website. When I click on the song, a new window opens and quicktime starts to buffer the song for playback. This happens with both IE and Firefox.
How do I disable this? My laptop doesn't do this, but my main desktop is.

Why not just right-click and save the linked file to your computer?
Open the .mp3 with any app you choose.
You can disable the QuickTime plug-in from playing .mp3 files in a browser window by opening the QT Control Panel/Advanced and click the MIME Settings button. Remove the check mark for the .mp3 format and restart your browser for this change to take effect.

• How do I find my Quicktime reg key? Downloadable purchases is greyed out?!

I purchased Quicktime Pro a few years ago. Now I want to re-register it on my pc it doesn't allow me the option of going into 'my account' and selecting 'downloadable purchases' to see my Quicktime Pro activation key.
Does the Quicktime Pro registration run out? Why am I not allowed to re-register it after already buying it?

It's more than strange. Apple's KB is way out of date. I have been able to regain my QT Pro status every time that I have uograded my OS. But seemingly, not when upgrading to Lion. I can't even find a place to buy pro status from scratch.
I wish Apple would fill holes in its communication system with customers. I know that servicing queries on a computer system is complex, but surely Apple can get something like QT re-registration right. Apple computers are supposed to be relatively easy to use. Perhaps so compared to Windows, but compared to the Apple mantra "computing for the rest of us", it is by no means easy, especially for non-tech people who just want to use the things to get on with their lives.

• QuickTime asks me to download/install ITunes.

Occasionally, a requester pops up asking me to update my QuickTime installation, and listed there is an update called ITunes. I can Quit this requester without any action, however, I would prefer not to be asked to install ITunes because I currently have no use for it.
Can I switch this off or change/modify the installation so that ITunes is no longer asking to be downloaded/installed?
Also of some concern is that my current installation shows me that my preferences are turned off for Automatic Updates. There is also an extra stray QuickTime shortcut that is on my Desktop. How do I identify the shortcut to remove?
Cheers ...
Geoffrey Hyde

Well, that didn't solve anything. I wonder if there's a utility from Apple which manages QuickTime/ITunes installation/removal/repair? I think perhaps there is something wrong somewhere, as the registry was corrupted recently, and the technician had to fix it, as it was affecting the ability of ScanDisk to run on reboot.
I'm not sure if uninstalling will fix the problem properly without some sort of scan of the PC to ensure all traces of Apple QuickTime/ITunes have been removed completely.
Anyone know if there's a program from Apple for Windows XP that will remove all traces of QuickTime/ITunes?
Cheers ...

• QuickTime Upgrades affect photo downloads?

I recently completed a QuickTime upgrade installation (the kind that pop up when you restart your computer). Since I did this, now, when I select a link to view photos on certain webistes, it brings up the QuickTime logo with at "?" - and the photos never load.
I have never had this problem downloading photos from these same websites and the only thing that has changed in the QuickTime upgrade....any suggestions on how I might be able to go back to viewing these photos?

2nd post
<<So, it's a couple hours later. I'll go ahead and answer my own post. And add my own two cents.
To anyone that hasn't updated to either QuickTime 7.0.4 or iTunes 6.0.2, don't do it. I know some of you uber Mac fiends will find fault with this, but they AREN'T worth it. iTunes 6.0.2 has the shaddy "Mini Store" which is a sham and QuickTime 7.0.4 caused my MPEG-2s to glitch out every time I accessed them in my finder window.
To anyone that has installed these programs, here's what I ended up doing to solve my problem. I inserted my restore disc and reinstalled the OS while saving my old one. Then I updated my programs using the disc that came with my 5th Generation/Video iPod. My iPod came with a disc containing both iTunes 6.0 and QuickTime 7.0.3. I know this is convoluted, but I found it to be worth while.
And the updates provided by the iPod updater 1.1 for the video iPod are not worth it unless you really feel the need to listen to crappy commercial Clear Channel/Infinity Broadcasting radio stations. I guess some people like listening to the Pussycat Spice Girl Dolls, every hour, on the hour. With static. And inane chatter.
If it's not broke, don't fix it. >> Debberss... I agree 1000%

<<I found a solution on my problems with quicktime logo with questionmarks instead of pictures. I went to apple and downloaded the 7.01 reinstaller. It removed the later versions like 03 and 04 an reinstalled 01 no problems at all. And now no more questionmarks but pictures.
My question is you can trust Apples updates anymore. Apple or Firefox has not been keen on solving this issue. Next time I´ll wait quite a long time for sure until all bugs are taken care of. >>
hope these help

• QuickTime Fast Start Progressive Download not Working - Help!

I can't figure this out - I have a large number of training movies created by a contractor. After uploading them to my website, I thought QT would start once a certain amount of data was downloaded. So, being new to QT, I thought that the videos should be exported with the "Prepare for Internet Streaming." checked with either "Fast Start" or "Fast Start & Compressed Header" selected. Well, I tried both and no luck. File sizes are between 8 MB and 40 MB. I discovered another site that has a 80 MB file that starts no problem, so obviously I am missing something! Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Simon

Thanks for your purchase, Simon.
You should look at the part of my PDF that discusses QuickTime Media Links. These are text based files that will download with a click on the link and then can control the QuickTime Player application.
Your Web page layout could remain the same with these .qtl links and your QuickTime files could enter "Presentation" mode (full screen, if you like). They will launch the QuickTime Player app as the tiny .qtl file has downloaded or the .qtl download is double clicked.

• Why Did a Quicktime Video For VLC Download Instead of Play?

From Firefox, after attempting to stream a Quicktime Video without QuickTime media player installed on my PC, I was offered the option to watch the video with VLC open source Media Player, which I do have installed on my PC.
I selected that, but the video didn't stream. It started downloading, without further warning.
Why would that happen in Firefox?

Files opened in an external application are never streamed and are downloaded to the temp folder before they are passed to the player.
That only works if the stream is placed in a media file that has the link(s) to the stream. Then that file can be passed to the external player.
Only media files that play embedded in a browser tab can be streamed.

• Quicktime trailer could only download a certain size

Hi, when i try to view a trailer from quicktime.com/trailers, when i click on the HD format, 480p(36MB), it would only download 7 secs of the trailer, when i click on the standard medium, it would only download 25 secs of the trailer, & standard small, it would only download 45 secs of the trailer. It seems like the quicktime could only download a 'fixed' amount of size. i went to quicktime preferences >advanced & change the cache from 100MB to 313MB, & 'OK' the changes, but the results are still exactly the same, even after PC is restarted. When i removed my new hard disk & put back the old hard disk, i could view all complete trailers, even when the Quicktime 'cache' settings are still 100 MB. Please help. Thanks

No, QuickTime is only 32-bit on Windows systems. (It runs on the Windows-on-Windows-64 subsystem on 64-bit systems.)
