Quicktime 7.5 shuts network

Installed it via software update this morning (still using 10.4.11 until I can get off one last classic app). I am on an office ethernet network to printer/copier/scanner by Kyocera. Up until today, no problem scanning from copier to my mac, via KM ListenerX (opens terminal). Now, the copier no longer recognizes my mac on the network. I can print TO the copier, but can not send from copier to mac. I must assume is has something to do with the many security changes in 7.5 that close off my mac from outsiders. Have not idea which, if any, changes to file sharing or firewall might help. I assume I can't do a downgrade back to earlier quicktime.

If you think it's that, you can turn off the whole Firewall for a test, Sharing>Firewall tab>Stop.
I assume I can't do a downgrade back to earlier quicktime.
You could do the Archive and Install feature...

Which saves all your stuff and just give you your old Tiger IS to use.

  • Can't uninstall quicktime b/c of network location?

I've recently repeatedly tried to update to the new quicktime/itunes software, but am unable to install it.  It will let me download the updates, but not install them, either thru the update that automatically comes thru or when I try to do it manually.  I figured if I could uninstall quicktime and itunes it will let me, but I can uninstall everything (itunes, bonjour, etc) except for quicktime.  It starts, then tells me that it could not access the network location.  Any help anyone can provide would be great, thanks!

  • Safari and Quicktime Update Problem & Shut-Down Problem

Hi, recently my macbook ran the automatic software update. After I clicked the ''restart'', the installation was stuck (the blue bar never grew). Then I had to push the button to shut the machine down manually. Ever since then, the machine can never be shut down, except manual shutting-down.
Can anyone help me out here?
    Thanks a lot!

Hm. I"m seeing the same problem. Will track replies to this message! Fingers crossed.

  • Quicktime Shuts Down Computer... PLZ HELP!!!

I truly hope someone can help me with my problem. For a while now, everytime I play a Quicktime file, it shuts down my computer automatically. In addition, whenever I visit a Web Site that automatically plays a Quicktime file, it shuts down my computer too. Moreover, I am now unable to use Itunes. Whenever I open Itunes and it starts updating my music library, it shuts down my computer too!!! I don't know how to fix this problem. I have tried several times to update and also re-install both Quicktime and Itunes... nothing works. Quicktime is still crashing my computer. Please help me!!! Thank you in advance.

For a while now, everytime I play a Quicktime file, it shuts down my computer automatically.
are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • Purchased Show Shuts Down iTunes/Quicktime

I just bought the new episode of Desperate Housewives and it completed and is in "My Music." It is not in my iTunes library, but shows in my purchase history in the music store. I have tried dragging it into the library, and opening it from "My Music" into iTunes and Quicktime. iTunes will come up, but immediately gives me an error that says that iTunes/Quicktime has to shut down. I have updated iTunes, restarted the computer multiple times, etc. Still no luck.
Anyone else having/been able to fix this problem?

I am having the EXACT same problem! I now feel a bit better knowing that I'm not alone in this!

  • Quicktime Latest Version Won't Shut Down Correctly

Can anyone help me with this? I updated my itunes and quicktime to the latest versions. Itunes works ok but quicktime when i shut it down a box comes up quicktime player ahas encountered an error and needs to close.
I have tried uninstalling the player, deleting folders and then using registry mechanic and then reinstalling. Same thing happens. I tried a repair and same again.
    Any help appreciated.

I have this same problem on a PC computer. As I can still view my movies, its not such a big problem, but the error is at the least a nuisance. I wonder if this has to do with the newest version of Quicktime.

  • Quicktime very slow to load files over local network

I've had this issue before and managed to resolve it, but recently it's cropped back up and I've been unable to fix it.
If I attempt to load a movie file with Quicktime over my local network, Quicktime stops responding... it will eventually spring to life and open the video after a few minutes.
Before, I was recommended to install Perian and did so. That solved that issue immediately. However, in more recent releases of Quicktime, the issue has reappeared and even reinstalling Perian has done nothing.
    Any insight?

BT FON is an open network that does not use wireless encryption, so it will be slightly faster anyway, however as your problem seems to be with your main SSID, its possible that there is some incompatibility between your wireless card, and the home hub.
Try changing the wireless encyption on the home hub to WPA only, and not WPA/WPA2. Some wireless cards do not like mixed mode encryption.
There may be an update to your wireless card drivers.

  • Quicktime 7.6.9

I have the most updated version of Quicktime (version 7.6.9), and I download files that are converted via Flip4Mac. After I have been watching the videos for a while on Quicktime, the player shuts down on me and says there was an unexpected error. It's SUPER annoying because I am downloading lectures that take a while to download, so I have to redownload them every time this happens in order to watch them.
Does anybody know WHY my quicktime is randomly shutting down and how I can fix this?!

You'll be more likely to get help with this issue if you post in the QuickTime for Mac forum. This is the QuickTime for Windows forum where few people who are running a Mac will see your question.

  • Cant export in quicktime pro get buffer overrun detected

cant export in quicktime pro progeam shuts down and a microsoft visual c++ runtime libary buffer overrun detected error pops up what is the fix for this??

I do not know if this helps as my problem was specifically with picture viewer but I also was unable to run the quicktime updater. I removed quick time via the windows add/remove in control panel as I had done before. But this time I did a search for all quick time files and found over 50 files (I have 4 partitions and they were hiding in one of them). So I deleted them, did a defrag (using diskeeper 10) then downloaded the latest version of quick time. Now it works perfectly.

  • Cant open over network from Windows to Leopard, but ok to Tiger

    Hi
We have a number of Mac Pro's some running Tiger and others running Leopard. I can open any quicktime file over our network from a PC to any Tiger Mac, but not to a Leopard Mac. Why not? I can see the files I can open any other file type, just not QT. Copy the same file over to one of the Tiger Mac's and I can open it from the Windows PC. This would not be such an issue, but we are dealing with 1920x1080 uncompressed files and it is a real pain to move them.
Get Error 43: a file could not be found
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Tony

Well outside help other than this list has solved this. Seems there is a bug in QT windows that if a QT file resides in a folder on the MAc with a name longer than 8 characters, it wont open over the network.
ie. Running QT Windows 7.5 connecting over network to a Mac running leopard.

  • ITunes 6.0 - problem with QuickTime 7

I am also having a problem launching iTunes since I tried to upgrade to version 6 - I get the error stating I need the latest QuickTime version. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, several times with no success. I tried to download the standalone version of QuickTime 7 and received the following errors:
"Error 1402.Could not open key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Apple Computer, Inc.\QuickTime\Installed Files\QuickTimeCheck.ocx. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."
    and then
    "Feature transfer error
    Error:-1603 Fatal error during installation.
Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information."
Any suggestions? I have not been able to access iTunes for about 2 weeks now.

    hi R Lie!
i also cannot uninstall quictimes since windows says that it is running somewhere, checked task manager, and it doesnt seems to running anywhere. In addition, i cannot delete all the files from the temp folder, since it says it is running somewhere else or something.
hmmmm. okay, let's try the installshield advice on "closing other running applications":
    http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108377
(the idea here is that some other program might currently be using Quicktime. if we shut down
    b everything
running in the background, we might be able to both uninstall QT and clean out the stuff in the temp folder.)
    keep us posted.
    love, b

Has Spotlight finished its indexing?  Check in the upper right.  If you get just the search field, it has, if it says its indexing, you have to wait before you can use anything.

  • Quicktime pages kill my browsers

    hey there,
since updating with the newest security update webpages with quicktimes embedded in shut down my browsers (safari, camino, firefox2).
when the 'report to apple' window comes up the last 2 lines of the log point to this:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/QuickTime Plugin.plugin/Contents/MacOS/QuickTime Plugin
    0x9a976000 - 0x9a97efff com.apple.ScreenSaver 1.5.1 /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Versions/A/ScreenSaver
    0x9be02000 - 0x9be02fff libmx.A.dylib /usr/lib/libmx.A.dylib
for one, i don't know why it would goto the screensaver framework. the other is the lib file. i think this is the file that kills my browser. it's always the last line in the reports.
what is this file and how do i fix it? i've repaired permissions to no effect. it's repeatable, consistently.
any ideas? if more info is needed, just let me know and i'll post it.
    thanks for the help!
    cheers,

  • Best Quicktime Server Set-Up

    Hi,
I am trying to deploy a Quicktime server on our network that will be used to broadcast live and archived streams outside to the public.
Currently we have the quicktime server behind our PIX 525 firewall with a static NAT translation to a public IP address. We have opened up the recommended ports and everything is working for some clients.
The problem is that some people simply cannot connect at all, while others have no problems. And still others can connect but are disconnected after exactly 10 minutes every time.
Is this there something wrong with my set-up? Should I be using some kind of proxy server or am I just having firewall config problems?
    Thanks for your help!

Well the first thing I would look at is the WiFi, if you are pushing big files Ethernet is the way to go.
A Mac Mini makes a great server (depending on the age) and there dozens of ways to get a speed boost, but Ethernet is the single greatest one.
