QuickTime 7.6.3 to QuickTime 7.6.4 Upgrade Possible???

Hi
I am wondering if there is anyway to update QT 7.6.3 to QT 7.6.4 in Snow Leopard?
Thanks,
NBK

Apple hasn't come up with an update for Snow Leopard as of yet.

I Can't open WMV files in Quicktime since Snow Leopard upgrade
I get an error message saying 'Quicktime player must be installed to run this application'
This is happening on both of my macs
    Any help appreciated

I had this problem. Double clicking the WMV file produced the message you had. However, if I open by dragging the WMV file onto the QuickTime X icon in the dock it did indeed open.
I then looked at the WMV's Get Info window and found that it was set to open in WMV Player by default. Obviously I do not have WMV Player installed. The drop down menu on this setting did have QT Player as the other option. When I changed the option to QT Player as default the "Change All" button became active. Previously it had been greyed out. Things have been OK since, but I have not tried it on any new WMV files.

  • How do I locate the quicktime control panel (to upgrade to quicktime pro) in Windows 7 home premium?

    p.s. I'm a newbe to QuickTime :-)

    Thanks Gary,
This does not help me... the instructions state:
    1. Locate the QuickTime 7 Control Panel
From the Windows Desktop, click on the Start menu, choose Settings, then choose Control Panel, then locate the QuickTime 7 Control Panel.
However, I cannot locate the QuickTime 7 Control Panel on the Windows 7 control panel -- it's not listed anywhere in the available options.

  • Problem with opening .wmv files in QuickTime since Snow Leopard upgrade

Until upgrading to Snow Leopard any .wmv files would open automatically in QT when double clicked.
I now get an error message which says "QuickTime Player must be installed to run this application".
I can open the file by launching QT(pro) and opening it from within the player - kind of a long way round.
Any suggestions what the fix might be would be gratefully received
    Thanks

After installing the new quicktime, itunes and safari, and restart I get the following message after restart-
+"application launch failure the application"(null)" could not be launched because of a file sharing error:"a<hp communicatons><apple; carbon; multimedia><cfm priv_quicktime>"+, quicktime will not work, nor can I reload it, the finder is acting like it is resetting itself approx. every three minutes.
Tried removing new QT and installing the old but that will not install either, any suggestions???

It is safe to assume that your faulty update revealed a pre-existing problem with your setup.
There are no guarantees, but following this procedure when installing updates and upgrades on your Mac, or even re-installing them, will go a long way towards avoiding unpleasant after effects and ‘post-update stress disorder’.
It is also worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
The 10.4.11 Combo Updater for PPC Macs is here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html
And for Intel Macs: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eintel.html
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
More information on using Software Updater here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1338
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 used Safari 3.0.4 which was not a beta. If Safari 3.1.2 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 3.0.4 (or worse still, version 2) when running 10.4.11 or 10.5 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.1.1 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail and Dashboard Widgets etc also rely, and may entail you having to reinstall an earlier operating system.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them.
Additional tips on software installation here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

  • Any issues with QuickTime 7.1.2 upgrade?

    Hello,
I've been cautious about upgrading to QuickTime 7.1.2 from QuickTime 7.1.1 which came with my Tiger 10.4.7 upgrade. There isn't too much information from these forums nor from Version Tracker and MacFixIt. I see no problems with the current version except for an occasional non-response to playing video. Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm well backed up to another internal HD and to a (bootable) firewire HD.
    TIA.
    Raymon

    Hello,
I have not had a single problem with Quicktime 7.1.2 with OS 10.4.7 on my machines. You can see the specs on my machines in my details below.
    Everything works great. No problems
I've upgraded one system to Quicktime Pro and the other is just Quicktime. Both are the latest release, and both work fine.
    I hope this helps.

  • Quicktime clip download - reducing resolution possible?

Hi all. I have watched and saved one of the BBC's HD Quicktime clips here at home on my iMac. It's spectacular and I would like my special education students to watch it at school, where our newest Mac is a 450 Mhz Digital Audio. (no internet there, either, broadband or otherwise!) The OS isn't a problem, I have the clip on my external hard drive running Tiger, which I can take and hook up to the DA; but the clip is high definition and bogs down on that otherwise fine studio display. Is there a way I can make this clip viewable for my students? I do have QT Pro here at home, but I'm pretty challenged when it comes to solving video problems. Don't even know if the problem is due to the video card in the DA. Can I modify the clip some way so a lower end Mac can see it? Thanks for any advice.

    Hi Jane,
You want to reduce the file size, which reduces the quality in order to email and for the web. iPhoto will not do that, but other graphic programs will.
If you don't a couple of extra steps, you can drag the photos to the desktop right from the library window. Select all, then use a little handy contextual menu item to batch resize. You can keep the same dimensions, but reduce the quality to make the file sizes smaller.

  • Quicktime functionality loss after upgrading to OS X 10.6

After upgrading to Snow Leopard I noticed a functionality loss with QuickTime that I have not been correct.
I run a Macbook Pro and have an external monitor attached. Previously when I did the key combo Command+F to go to full screen video Quicktime would place the video I'm viewing on my larger external monitor for playback. It would also dim the Macbook screen during that playback.
I have noticed that DVD Player does this as well and actually has a setting in the preferences. I am not able to find any such setting with QuickTime even though it had the functionality previously.
Does anyone know the key combinations or hidden preference changes in QuickTime to have this functionality return?

Use the Quicktime 7 program that you will find in your Utilities folder. You can't do this with Quicktime X. If Quicktime 7 isn't in the Utilities folder, you will find the installation package for Quicktime 7 in a folder on you OS installation disc.

  • Quicktime Pro will not upgrade on Windows 8.1

  • Keynote export to Quicktime still fails after upgrade to iWork 09.1

After the update to iwork 9.1 the export to quicktime still fails with 'there is not enough disk space or there was a problem with the file Error - 108'
I bought a Mac for my use at home, (got a strong one with work in mind) - keynote with embedded FCP movies in some slides made one great presentation for work. Planned to deploy it to sales and our clients and develop more. but it does not run on quicktime so after 3 months the plan has taken a nose dive.
Its tough times, Keynote style presentations with live demos of our software (embedded movies) can make a difference. But it will have to run on a PC because that is what our clients and sales force have.
With export to quicktime not working and removal of export to flash i iWork 09 , there seems to be no way to deploy a Keynote presentation to a PC dominated corporate world? and I would be very interested to know if there is a way.
I have followed all the posts and even narrowed this issue in my case to hyperlinks
but none of the solutions solve the problem
The more complex the presentation in relation to embedded movies, hyperlinks etc sooner or later triggers this problem.

I'm also trying to utilize Keynote for the PC world and NEED the export to Quicktime. I also don't notice any improvement in Keynote '09. I think the workaround has to be to export the Quicktime files - which I'm now accepting will always have mismatched timings and other problems into another program for "fixing". This weekend I plan to test various. I hate to say I will have to revert to PowerPoint because it accepts audio and video files longer than 99 seconds. FYI, I just read on another post that manually clicking through your Keynote while having a screen capture program record a Quicktime may be a solution, although I'm concerned for audio/video quality. I just downloaded a free trial of Snapz Pro to see if that works today too. Let me know if you find a solution.

  • ITunes and Quicktime not running after upgrade

After installing iTunes 5 I get the following error message when launching it:
'The instruction at "0xf4800000" referenced memory at "0xf4800000". The memory could not be "read".'
When trying to run a quicktime clip embedded in a Acrobat document I get the message:

The rest of the message is cut off.

good gracious ... you had to do that to get the Cleanup utility to install?
prior to the new versions of the Windows Installer coming out, i only had to use that trick
    b once
to get past an itunes installer error (and i only remember it because it showed up in an almost unique situation where you have to treat the last error in a chain of itune installer errors first) ... but you're about the third or fourth person reporting success with it in the past

it's a rarer sort of problem, still. but the latest Windows Installer updates just don't seem to have been sticking as well as earlier ones.
    many thanks for reporting back!

  • Quicktime player won't upgrade to Pro

I've properly entered registration code and the panel shows that I've been upgraded but none of the Pro features are active and it still shows that I'm only able to use QuickTime Player. I've restarted computer which is running OS X 10.4.11 and Pro still doesn't show.

  • I had QuickTime Pro ... upgraded to 10.6 ... now QuickTime 10.0 ... so ...

... do I now have to buy a "Pro" version of 10.0 ?
Flip4Mac/WMV Player says I need to have Quicktime Player installed ... but of course I DO have it installed and open ?! Downloaded the latest version of Flip4Mac. So now what ?
    Two Questions ... thanks ...

There no Quicktime X Pro...You use Quicktime 7 for the Pro features.
If you want Quicktime Pro on 10.6... Look for Quicktime 7 Pro in you Utilities folder. If you don't have Quicktime 7 Pro in your Utilities folder look on the OS 10.6 disc for a extra folder that has an install package for Quicktime 7. Install Quicktime 7 from that folder. You might need to re-register your Pro key again so have the registration key handy. And if you don't have the registration key. Log onto your Apple account on this site, there you will find a copy of your registration key for Quicktime Pro.
