Quicktime 7.6.4 update isn't downloaded for Snowleopard

I'm curious whether this is an oversight... I had Quicktime 7 Pro on 10.5, so SL kept this and placed the player in the /Applications/Utilities folder.
Opening the player, I notice the Quicktime version displayed is: QuickTime™ Version 7.6.3 (1584), which seems to be the version that is being updated on Leopard to version 7.6.4.
However, Software Update doesn't see any updates, and when I manually download the updater, it won't install on SL (complains about Quicktime X).
Given that there are several security patches in 7.6.4, should I be concerned that I have 7.6.3 on my system and no way to upgrade? Has anyone been able to upgrade 7.6.3 on SL to 7.6.4?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Thank you for your reply, but I don't think that it's entirely correct on that point: from the Ars article you pointed me to:
"...QuickTime 7, the old but extremely capable media framework discussed earlier, is installed by default in Snow Leopard—in fact, it's mandatory. But the player application, the one with the old blue "Q" icon, the one that many casual users actually think of as being "QuickTime," that's been replaced with a new QuickTime-X-savvy version sporting a pudgy new icon (see above right)."
http://arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2009/08/mac-os-x-10-6.ars/16#qt-player
Moreover, doing a little digging on my own machine:
From the "About Quicktime Player 7" Menu:
QuickTime Player 7
Version 7.6.3 (630)
QuickTime™ Version 7.6.3 (1584)
(seems to indicate that the player is 7.6.3 build 640, while the underlying QuickTime is 7.6.3 build 1584).
Also, under System Profiler -> Frameworks, I have the QuickTime 7.6.3 framework (Universal, but not 64-bit). (There's also QTkit 7.6.3 which is 64-bit). It would seem that Quicktime 7.6.3 is installed, or both the player and System Profiler are lying to me.
But it would seem that this would be the case for all SL users, not just the few who installed the QT 7 application... guess we'll just have to wait for Apple to update it.

  • Firefox update has been downloading for about 1/2 hour. Why?

    The Software update window says:
Downloading the update (line is running)
They connecting to the update server
    Since about 1PM est.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • HT4592 What Java update do I download for os 10.5.8

Can someone tell me what version of Java I need to download to be current?  I have a Mac os 10.5.8.  Thx so much. kl

The final update of Java for Leopard was:
Update 10, 29 June 2011 - This release updates J2SE 5.0 to 1.5.0_30, and updates Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_26. J2SE 1.4.2 is no longer being updated to fix bugs or security issues and remains disabled by default in this update. Support for out-of-process Java applets on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard has been removed with this update.
This release is only for Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later versions of Mac OS X 10.5. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1359
    and for Snow Leopard:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1360
Note: Java 1.6 for Leopard is 64 bit only, but for Snow Leopard it is available for both 32 and 64 bit.

But since August 2012 updates for Java (and especially Java Runtime Environment, which is what you actually need) must now be downloaded direct from Oracle:

  • Sorry, this update isn't available for your PC" while upgrading to Windows 8.1from 8

    Hi,
I have been encounting this problem from the time i tried to upgrade my laptop or at the time 8.1 was launched .
I never reinstalled the operating system it is the way it came preinstalled by HP, windows is also 100% updated at the time of posting.
Product name: HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC
    Serial number: [Personal Information Removed]
    Product number: E3B56PA#ACJ
    Windows 8 Single Language 64-bit
Now the problem : When i click Upgrade to 8.1 on the Microsoft site it takes me to the Store where i get the below message.
I contacted Microsoft Support and with the help of Logmein they took control of my PC and after the check conformed this is a problem of Volume Licensing .
Now i would like to know how to get this problem solved as this was HP's fault and not mine .

I would like to help you, but comments like "Iam sorry to say but its of no use.." without specifics and detailing what you have checked are not helpful.
You have to be communicatively proactive and helpful for this to be a succesful and two-way troubleshooting event.
Have you looked to verify that the updates required to enable an update to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8 are present in your operating system?
Others have faced this issue. They have gotten past it  and updated to Windows 8 by verifying and updating their Windows 8 OS, as decribed in the Microsoft  article.  I had the same issue with one of my laptops.
I also notice that the browser tool that the lithium forum uses has detected that you are using Windows 8.1. Is this the same notebook with Windows 8 you are asking for help with?

  • My iPad won't open itunes. I have software update iOS 7.1.1 trying to download for days. Is this the problem or something else?

My iPad  won't open itunes. Wifi ok safari working. Software update trying to download for days 7.1.1. Is this the problem? How to fix?

If Safari is working otherwise and you can log onto other websites, try clearing Safari and reset your iPad. That might help with the Twitter app as well.
    Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • HT5957 is the iOS 7.0.2 update safe to download

is the iOS 7.0.2 update safe to download for your phone?? a freind of mine did and she lost all here information on the phone...

It is very rare to lose information when upgrading. Nonetheless, sensible people always have their information backed up, whether or not they are doing an upgrade. With a proper back up, it's very simple to restore all of your information should something go wrong.
That being said, a bigger issue is, will you like iOS 7? If at all possible, you should spend some time with it, either on a friend's phone or at a store. You should also consider that the iPhone 4 is the oldest phone that will run iOS 7 and it may not run it as well as an iPhone 5.
    Best of luck.

  • Have 3 Ipads how can I update all without download each time

I have 3 IPads one one computer how can I update all without downloading for each one ?

If they are the same model (iPad 1, iPad 2 wifi, iPad 2 CDMA, or ipad 2 GSM/sim) then for the second and third devices just press hold the shift key on windows, or the command key on a Mac, when clicking on the Check For Updates button in iTunes, and then navigate to the IPSW file - if they are different models then I believe that each model has a different update file.

  • Software updates (.dmg) now download as Quicktime mpeg files

Since my last upgrade of Quicktime 7.2, most of my software downloads not save as mpeg files which will not open. Any golden advice how to change it back to a dmg type file? Latest one I tried was at http://www.micromat.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=158&Itemid=61 for an older Techtool 4 update.

I presume by "not save" you mean "save" so this is a little confusing. You download a file say with Safari , it keeps the name it already had, e.g. dmg, right?
If they are associated with a program that opens MPG files then right click on a dmg file and change open with to IIRC Disk Image Mounter and select apply to all files of this type.
Or are the dmg files and when they are on your desktop they are literally renamed .mpeg? If so, no idea what happened but just select the file press enter and rename the extension to dmg.
