Quicktime 7.6.6 Pro and Quicktime X Failure to open files
Hi. I did a clean install yesterday of Mac OSX Snow Leopard on a new drive in my tower and migrated my user files and setting over via Time Machine. Everything seem to migrate over fine, but now I am finding both my Quicktime players are having issues opening Quicktime files I could open fine yesterday before the install. This includes AIFF files that I could open with both players.
Oddly enough, Quicktime X WILL open a Quicktime file that has H264 compression and AAC audio, but neither player will not open a normal uncompressed Quicktime file out of Final Cut Pro or Adobe After Effects.
Quicktime 7.6.6. Pro gives me the following message when trying: (OSStatus error -50.)
Quicktime X simply says the file cannot be opened.
I've started up from the Snow Leopard install disk and repaired permissions on the main drive but to no avail.
I'm lost at this point.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc. -
I am attempting to open MPEG4 files on my Mac Book Pro and it is saying that the file cannot be opened because a codec is missing. I downloaded both QuickTime Player 7.6.6 and also QuickTime Player MPEG2 and neither one of them are helping with my problem.

QuickTime Pro 7 is a very useful video tool. You can make simple edits to video files, cut-n-paste multiple video files together into one, save the video or transcode it into a variety of common video formats, use it to analyze a video to see which codec it's in, and even play videos in professional settings.
QuickTime X is completely useless.
With QT X and Final Cut X, Apple has completely abandoned the professional video market. Both of these software packages are dumbed down for Windows users, and are intentionally designed to anger and alienate the professional user that has come to rely on Apple software for their video needs over the last 20 years. Final Cut X is really just iMoviePro. If I wanted iMovie, I'd use iMovie, but I need a professional video app, not a kiddie video app. Therefore I can not use FCPX.
I have work to do, under strict deadlines and budget limits. FCPX and QTX actively prevent me from getting any work done at all. Apple has left me no choice. I have to go back to Adobe Premiere or Avid Media Composer since these are still professional applications. Final Cut and QuickTime have been turned into kiddie-style iMovie-like apps that have no functionality whatsoever.
Apple is heading in a very disappointing direction. They have a history of cutting off legacy items without notice. They have decided that optical media is over and everything is online. But my clients don't have that luxury. I still have to deliver products on DVD and increasingly Blu-Ray. Apple's obstinate refusal to support Blu-Ray has cost me clients, and I've had to resort to third-party software and hardware.
Apple has abandoned the professional video market. -
Once 10.9.1 is loaded onto my MacBook Pro and it has accessed all my files; is there anyway to back out of the relationship? I don't want my data on iCloud - how do I make that happen? Many thanks for any help.
Sorry but I know of no way of not backing up for a PC.

I have just downloaded Mountain Lion for my MacBook Pro and now when my applications open they close and the error "This has just quit unexpectedly" message pops up. Does anybody know what is happening/how to fix it?

I tried to migrate information from MacBook Air to ...Pro and it seemed to have taken files from folders on desktop as none exist on Air now. As to where these files are, I don't know. It has also taken my pictures from iPhoto to unknown destination. ??
If you used migration assistant then it probably created a new Login user and placed the migrated files under it.

ive just purchased Adobe Acrobat Pro and when i pdf a Revit file all text is unreadable. If i do it on a free pdf as Cube i dont have the problem.

I just bought a Dell Precision M3800 laptop - screen res 3840 x 2160 when I open photoshop the task bar and tools and layers etc are in 4pts size I changed my % in my image in my control panel and if I go to open file the drop down boxes are in good pt sizes how do I make the layers and tool bars bigger? Windows will scale applications display or windows will not scale application display depending on how the application is coded. Photoshop is coded in a way that its display is not scaled by windows. Photoshop knows about your displays high pixel count not its resolution so it uses its pixels however it does not scale its UI to make it usable on your display. Other application let Windows scale their display output. For example Microsoft default for is Surface Pro 3, 216 ppi display is to scale applications display up 150% so the surface pro 3 display which has 2160x1440 pixels a 216 ppi resolution look like at display with the user is using with 1440x960 pixels. The Application works like the display is 1440x960 and Windows scale those pixels to the displays using the displays 2160x1440 pixels the effectively changing it resolution to 144ppi rather than the actual 216ppi.
The reg update and external manifest file effectively tells photoshop its working on such a size display display some number of pixel wide and some number photoshop uses that as the display size in turn Windows scale those pixels to use the displays 2160x1440 pixels efector lowing its 216ppi resolution. Photoshop CC 2014 2X UI would be like using windows 200% option applications would be shown the are working on a display 1080x720 instead of the Surface Pro 3 2160x1440. Note that 1080x720 does not meet PS requirement of 1024x768. Photoshop UI would not fit on the Surface Pro 3 display..
Since you have a 4k display if you have CC 2014 you can use its 2x UI effectively Photoshop will be running on a 1920x1080 display and have half the resolution of you 4K display 3840x2160 pixels four native pixels are use as a single pixel. 1920x1080 pixels exceed PS requirement. -

Please try to reset the Internet Explorer settings or open Internet Explorer in In-Private browsing and then check if this issue occurs.
If the issue persists, please try to access SharePoint in another computer with Office 2013 and then check if this issue occurs. Or repair Office and restart your server.

This is really not a question, except to ask why nobody seems to answer any of the questions in this area.
I actually had a question and had to find my own answer. Hope what I discovered helps someone and saves a few hours of your life....
I recently started working with Vegas Pro (an outstanding video editor for the PC, BTW). I have two cameras that record in the Apple .MOV codec. Vegas recognized, displayed, loaded, and rendered them into .AVI files-- no problems. Then, I made The Mistake: I downloaded the new Quicktime version that Apple had been annoying me about for months. As a result, Vegas would only display .MOV files as black. I had Windows XP go back to its state before the download using System Restore. No joy. Vegas still displayed only black .MOV files and now Quicktime didn't work at all. So, back to the Original Configuration-- Quicktime still didn't work, and neither, of course, did Vegas with .MOV's. I removed QT and downloaded another copy from Apple, then removed and re-installed Vegas. Nope; all is still black.
Then I remembered that I had a CD-ROM with an older version of QT bundled on it. Replaced the new version with it: Nope-- it was TOO old; Apple told me to go and install the latest version. Right.
This time on the Apple QuickTime download page, I found a small-fonted, light-blue link to "Previous Versions of Quicktime" about halfway down on the left.
Go thou and click on it!! On the "Previous Versions" page that comes up, there will be a Version 7.6 for Windows (dated Jan 21, 2009). Remove whatever QT version is on your machine and download this one; it's the solution! Vegas will recognize your .MOV files (again)!
Now: Repent of your desire to upgrade Quicktime. It's the road to ****.Apologies to all: I should have mentioned my version of Vegas Pro. Users of Vegas Pro 9 or 10 probably don't even have the problem. I use 8.0b (Sony wants 'way too many hundreds of dollars for an upgrade). When I asked them for help on this issue via email, the autoresponse was "You have Legacy software and are not entitled to help". My post is for others like me with an abandoned program that's only three years old.

Final cut pro and quicktime both crashing!

I'm using fcp HD 4.5 and quicktime 7.6.6 on Leopard 10.5.8. Final cut has been crashing, and now quicktime is crashing. They are both dropping frames. I am losing the ability to use flash player as well (for instance, I can't click on video links on facebook but I can still watch youtube). Does flash player have something to do with dropped frames/crashing?
Also, someone suggested I upgrade to fcp 6 with quicktime 7.6.6 on Leopard. They suggested ebay but does anyone else have any suggestions where I might find it?

If QT itself is crashing and so is Flash, that would make me suspect something has gone wrong with your system (operating system, not necessarily the hardware).
If you recently installed or upgraded Flash, that could perhaps be a factor. In today's environment, more & more Mac applications are Intel-specific and they could cause problems on a PPC Mac. I cannot tell if that is the case for you, but it's something to be aware of if you continue to use a PPC Mac. -
Quicktime slide shows for dvd and Quicktime movies

Updated my iTunes to the recent one and now it will not open on my MacBook Pro, got a new iPhone so tried to connect it and said i needed the new iTunes (which i did) and now i can't start my phone as i can't open iTunes which means i can't access anything on my phone!!?? HELP???????
