Quicktime 7.6.9 Install error

I've been having problems installing version 7.6.9 of Quicktime. I ran software update and the install started fine, but before it finished I got an error message that said: "The source media you are installing form is damaged. Try installing from a different copy of the source media or contact the manufacturer for a replacement."
I downloaded it again, directly from the Apple website but the same message appeared. I even uninstalled Quicktime all together and tried it again and same problem.
This is also affecting my ability to open iTunes. Trying to open iTunes (even before I uninstalled Quicktime) I got the message "iTunes requires Quicktime 7.5.5 or later. For more information on upgrading your computer, visit www.apple.com/quicktime." However, I had Quicktime version 7.6.6 installed on my computer.
Help!

Apple support helped me fix the problem. It was not related to the solid state drive. They had me delete the Quicktime application file from my Applications folder, empty the trash, restart and reinstall Quicktime 7.6.9 by downloading it from apple.com/quicktime/download
That fixed the problem.

Can't install quicktimeor uninstall it for that matter and itunes I receive error code 2738 with both downloads.  I'm running Window Vista with Service Pack 2.  I have check for all window update.  I have gone through Apple itune help list.  Even going into cmd to do regsvr32 vbscript.dll which was successfull. Can you help...my son had to register his ipod at the neighbors house..What going on.
Son even call apple with no help and was give Microsoft number no help there either they wanted me to call HP.....run around

    Excellent news!
Strange how sometimes the fixit works better than the manual methods, and sometimes the manual methods work better than the fixit. It differs from Microsoft fixit to Microsoft fixit too. (Unfortunately, because these "anomalous 2738s" are pretty rare as install errors go, I don't have a good feel yet for whether or not it's the fixit or the manual method that's more likely to work in iTunes/QuickTime installation contexts.)
Afraid I'm not very good on earbud troubleshooting, but fingers crossed the folks over at the iPod communities might be able to help:

  • ITunes 7 - Install of Quicktime did not complete successfully error on inst

I have been running the iTunes installer 7.0.2.16 and keep getting the following error.
"The installation of Quicktime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires Quicktime."
I had iTunes 6.0.5 installed and have tried uninstalling it and doing the install. No Luck! I have tried installing Quicktime 7.1.3 seperately and then iTunes 7 with no luck as well. The Quicktime 7.1.3 install works fine. I have read the vaious "support" topics from Apple and have tried the "Complete Removal" of all previous files with no luck. I have went through the registry and removed various Quicktime and iTunes entries with no luck. I have ALL Microsoft updates and tried diabling all firewall and virus type programs. I have started the computer with all system tray items turned off and still NO LUCK!
I am an IT guy by profession and have no problems with any other software or computer. My only guess is that Apple put some Quicktime check in the install routine that is not working. The install does not even get to the file installation portion, it is in the initial "checking" phases of the install.
I have had this problem for a couple of weeks and this discussion is a final chance to get this working before I too return the iPod that was purchased for XMAS like so many other have posted.
If you are having the same problem, please post your thoughts here as well. I know there are more of us based on the 50-60 posts I have read!
APPLE Would you respond with a fix or give me a seperate install of iTunes. I can install Quicktime myself!!!!!!!

Thank you for your response, but I have went through that list of things to do and so far nothing. I have done the install of the MS Uninstall tool and still nothing. I looked for the QuicktimeVR and other file and they are gone. Quicktime installed perfectly by itself. It is the iTunes + Quicktime that says that it is not installed correctly. Why would the new Quicktime install and then the iTunes installs and says it is not installed? Shouldn't it locate the install and see that it is installed?
I work in software and been working on computers for many years, this is a check that is done when you build the install routine and the version checker. Can I please just get a stand-alone installer of iTunes without the QT included? You must have one somewhere.....

  • Quicktime and itunes wont install. I have never had quicktime installed on my computer before

I recently bought an ipod touch 4g and realized that I needed itunes to activate it. After downloading itunes it wouldn't install, no error messages or anything, when I click on the installer it just doesn't do anything.
After downloading several versions of itunes (older versions) I finally found one that started to install. Then it told me that I need Quicktime on my computer in order for it to install. So I downloaded the latest version of quicktime and had the same problem, when I click on the installer, nothing happens. I tried downloading older versions of quicktime but still had the same problem.
I have never had quicktime or itunes installed on this computer before, so I know that it isn't an older version of the program hidden in my computer that is preventing the installation from happening.
My computer is running on Windows 7. I know that there wasn't a problem with downloading the software, the files weren't corrupted or anything. There are no error messages, the software doesn't even partially install. When I click on the installer, nothing happens. I have tried running the programs as an administrator and that doesn't change anything.
I have tried so many different things, but can't remember everything that I tried. Yesterday I spent nearly 10 hours trying to sort this out because I was determined to get my ipod running. I only stopped when my internet credit ran out and today after buying some more, I am trying again. Please help.

I appreciate the quick response, thank you for that.
One thing I did try was windows cleanup utility and searched through the program files for all apple software, but had none. I even deleted the temp files on my computer, and on my internet browser, but nothing happened.
One thing that I didn't think of was deleting the installation files in my downloads folder, pretty silly of me but I didn't think it would make a difference. I also spent about 2-3gig on downloads yesterday and didn't want to delete the files but as a last resort I did and emptied my recycle bin, then downloaded a fresh copy of Quicktime and finally it installed!
Now I am in the process of downloading a fresh copy of iTunes, the download hasn't finished yet so I haven't had a chance to install it yet but I have a much better feeling about it this time after deleting all the old installation files from my downloads folder. If Quicktime worked after that, I am sure iTunes will.
I can't believe it was something so simple as deleting the installation files in my downloads folder and emptying the recycle bin. I had seriously gone through my entire computer looking for any little file that was related to Quicktime or iTunes. I didn't even think of the two most obvious places. I spent so much time and credit downloading multiple files and my computer even got a virus when trying to download a copy from an unauthorized source, I had no problem getting rid of the virus, but struggled with Quicktime and iTunes, that is why I got so frustrated! I feel like an idiot now :-P
Thank you for your help. I still havent installed iTunes yet, so fingers crossed. I think it will work now though.

  • Can iTunes or QuickTime be forced to install on a 64 bit Windows OS?

I have used both QuickTime and iTunes on Windows 2000 Server (full updated) with no problems.
A recent computer disaster caused me to get a newer machine and I chose one with dual opteron processors, and I installed Windows 2003 Server x 64 as the operating system (to take advantage of the processors--but I'm beginning to think this may have been an expensive folly!). I use the system both as as workstation AND as a very small server for Web, DNS, and mail for my practically non-existent consulting business.
MOST programs have installed and run without problems (32-bit programs...I don't currently own any 64-bit applications), but the iTunes/QuickTime bundle refuses to install, saying this OS isn't supported.
Is there any way to "trick" the installer into doing the install? I have a feeling the program will actually run on the platform IF I could get it to install. Has anyone seen this sort of problem before? If it is just impossible, does anyone know when a version of either QuickTime and or iTunes might be available for 64-bit OSes?
Thanks in advance for any insight you may have.

yes, if you follow all 7 steps you can directly download a trial here:  Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Direct Download Links, Premiere too | ProDesignTools
and activate with your serial number.
if you have a problem starting the download, you didn't follow all 7 steps, or your browser does not accept cookies.
the most common problem is caused by failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).
failure to obtain that cookie results in an error page being displayed after clicking a link on prodesigntools.com or initiates the download of an incorrect (eg, current) version.

  • When i try to open itunes i now get an error message saying i do not have the required components installed error number 45075?

when i try to open itunes i now get an error message saying i do not have the required components installed error number 45075?

Just in case the component being referenced is not part of iTunes but is rather part of one of the other related programs, it might be worth trying a complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes and related componentry, as per the following troubleshooting document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

  • QuickTime Update will not install

    Hi All,
I ran software update on my 2.3GHz Mac Book Pro today. The OS security update installed just fine, but the QuickTime 7.4.1, ProKit 4.5 Update, and iTunes 7.6.1 will not install. All i get as an error is: "Sorry, An unexpected error occurred" It seems that this is QuickTime related as it seems to be the common thread among these updates (and the os update went though ok). Current QT is 7.4.0 (92).
I have repaired disk permissions and ran the repair disc function on my OS partition, but i didn't help.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
My computer has Final Cut Studio 2, Adobe CS3 web, AE CS3, among other things.

I'm having a similar, but worse problem. The quicktime update crashed upon install, and now many of my programs don't work.
    - Quicktime crashes when I click on it, telling me to update to a new version (more on that problem later)
    - Windows Media Player gives me an error saying ""Windows Media Player" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "B<WindowsMediaPlayer><Apple;Carbon;Multimedia><CFMPriv_QuickTime>"
    - Internet Explorer does the same shared library error
    - World of Warcraft hangs the computer on a black screen when I try to launch it.
So, you might ask, why don't I just install the newest version of QT? I can't. When I try it through Software Update, it gets almost completely done, then says "sorry, an unexpected error has occurred. The installer has been moved to the trash. Please try again from the file."
If I move the installer out of the trash and try to install, it gets to 86% complete, then crashes and says "There was an error installing the software. Please try again."
If I download the installer directly from Apple's QuickTime site (and I'm installing the version for Tiger that is supposed to be good for OS 10.4.9 and above; I have 10.4.11, so in theory I should be good to go), the same error occurs.
So, not only can I not use QuickTime, but it appears as though substantial other portions of my computer are inoperable due to the botched software upgrade.
I, much like the original poster, would be greatly appreciative to hear any suggestions as to how to solve this problem.
    Thanks

  • Quicktime 7 will not install

    "can not initialize plugin properly".
    a few preliminary questions:
    what plugin is being cited?
are you getting any error message numbers with that
error message? if so, what do they say?
do you get the error message when you go to launch
itunes or quicktime? or does it happen during the
    installation process?

  • Can't open QuickTime after trying to install update 7.4

I've tried to update my Quicktime Software to the 7.4 that keeps popping up on my software update. After it loads, verifies, and goes to install I receive the notice the Quicktime can't be installed. an unexpected error occurred and the installer package has been moved to the Trash. It tells me to try again, open the package from the finder... besides not being able to install the update, now I can't open QuickTime at all. Ideas?

    To The Apple Discussion Boards!
Repair permissions & restart your computer.
Install QT again either from the Software Update control panel or download the full installer directly from QT download site.
After you install QT, repair permissions & restart again.

  • Quicktime won't update, install, or delete??????

    Hi,
My PC is running XP and refuses to update Quicktime. When I try to install Quicktime 7, it gets almost all the way done, and then says, "The wizard was interrupted before Quicktime could be completely installed". I have deleted the registry keys for Quicktime, but when I restart, the Quicktime icon pops up in the system tray. How can this be?
So, what do I do? It appears that I cannot run it, or delete it, or update it????????

so i tried to download the windows installer update from the link you gave me but now i'm getting a different error and it won't let me download the installer. The error reads:
    Windows Script Host
    Script: C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP000.TMP\StartMsl.vbs
    Line: 1
    Char: 1
Error: ActiveX component can't create object: 'Scripting.FileSystemObject"
    Code: 800A01AD
    Source: Microsoft VBScript runtime error
I have no idea what this means or how to fix it. Please help!

  • Wizard interrupted before QuickTime could be completely installed?

I bought license to use QT PRO 7 - downloaded the latest version of QT pro 7 (itunes + qt) yesterday (1/20) evening and repeatedly failed to get it either to install over an older existing version of itunes and qt. The installation routine stops close to the end of the process and returns the message "the Wizard was interrupted before QuickTime could be completely installed". The pre-existing old versions of I-tunes and quicktime are gone. And there is no sign of either in my add/remove software menu. I've tried reinstalling the package in safe mode. I've tried shutting down all running programs via the task manager and via msconfig. I've tried using the current QT stand-alone installer. I've tried going back to an ealier restore point. And Quicktime phone support was unable to resolve the conflict either. Anybody here recognize the error message and know how to resolve the problem?

PC   Windows XP   Service Pack 2

I am having this problem too. QT7 gets past the registering part then goes into a publishing step, the window closes and another window pops up that says
    "InstallShield Wizard Completed
The wizard was interrupted before QuickTime could be completely installed
The system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run the installation again.
Click Finish to exit the wizard."
I have tried several times using both the itunes/QT7 and the standalone QT7 installers and both fail at this step. The itunes version doesn't even bother to post the above message though. It just closes the window leaving you thinking that it completed successfully. I have tried disabling my virus scanner, cleaning all references that I could find from the registry, deleting all previous installs, but nothing seems to work, so now I have no quicktime on my system of any version and can't get it reinstalled.

  • Install Error due to "Inspector" file

I am trying to reinstall iTunes. I had issues when trying to open the previous version of iTunes and was advised to uninstall and reinstall by the system. After uninstalling both iTunes and QuickTime, I downloaded the install pack and tried to install the new iTunes. I now receive this message, which is not allowing me to download the software.
"Error writing to file C: program files/common files/apple/apple application support/webkit.resources/inspector/abstracttimelinepanel.js. Verify that you have access to that directory."
When I try to access the pathway, I am unable to get into the "inspector" file.
Any advice on how to fix this so I can download iTunes?
    Thanks!

"Error writing to file C: program files/common files/apple/apple application support/webkit.resources/inspector/abstracttimelinepanel.js. Verify that you have access to that directory."
I'd try running a chkdsk over your C drive. There's instructions for that in the following document. Either select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you choose to go about it). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the scan to run on restart:
[How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265]
The scan should take quite a long time. If it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something is interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get the install to go through properly now?

  • QT 7 gives install error prcedure entry point could not be located

    Installed QT7.
When I tried to start it, got message
    Procedure entry point CFUniCharGetNumberofPlanesforUnicodePropertyData
could not be located in the Dynamic Link Library QTCF.dll
    followed by
Quick Time failed to initialize Error# - 2093

    Thank you Georgia!
Those look okay. QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx are QuickTime files that are supposed to be there. qtintf.dll is a Delphi-Qt2.x Interface Library. Quick.IME is an input manager used to display East Asian language on the PC, and QUTIL.dll is associated with your quarantine utilities for your Windows filewalls.
So if there isn't a misplaced QTCF.dll, there might be damage to the one in the right place. So we'll try a repair install again, taking a few extra explicit precautions this time.
Restart the PC. Do not open any applications after the restart. Disconnect from the internet and/or your network. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now navigate to C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QYSystem\ and drag the QTCF.dll out onto your desktop.
Now open your "Uninstall a program" control panel. Select QuickTime and click "repair".
Reenable all your security software prior to reconnecting to the internet and/or your network.
With the fresh QTCF.dll in place, does QuickTime now launch without the error message?

  • Cannot get QuickTime to run after Installing latest update.

Try to launch QuickTime, get QuickTime Unavailable window with RED X, and message "QuickTime failed to initialise. Error # -2096, Please make sure QuickTime is properly installed on this computer."
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem?

The following document is probably worth a shot with that one. (Make sure that none of the checkboxes are filled in the compatibility tab, not just the compatibility mode box itself.)

    Help!
    Thanks, Mark

Unfortunately, the error message gives no details about what codec might be missing or what it needs.
If the file can't be opened in QT, it only means you cannot use the QT "Inspector" window to check what compression formats were used to create the file. It does not mean you can't use the Finder "Information" window to check on the compression formats or use a third party media information window (e.g., like VLC which will open many compression formats not supported natively by QT) to determine what kind of data is included in the MOV wrapper. If the file cannot be opened in any app, it is usually a good sign that the file itself is corrupted.
It's a stupid error message. Apple should do better than that.
Error trapping is quite extensive but there are still many areas which require human oversight. The message is telling you that either the container has a problem (e.g., not properly terminated, non-standard, or corrupted) or that one or more of the compression formats used is not supported by your current codec component configuration or that the data was encoded using non-standard settings or preferences not supported by QT or that the fourCC code does not match the data contained in the file or that there are timecode inconsistencies, etc., etc., etc. In short there are a near infinite number of possible problems for which it would be very difficult/nearly impossible to program error trapping depending on your sourcing of content and how you process it before it reaches the player app. Think of it like trying to play a BD disc in an DVD player.
I'll call Apple support when I get a chance.
Chances are good that they will end up sending you back here. In any case, it is often a good idea to post a sample file for examination by other QT users. At the very least, they should be able to tell you if the sample file will play on other systems which would indicate whether or not the file itself is bad and under the best of circumstances whould allow them to examing the file in detail for various common problems.
