Quicktime 7.6 and Perian 1.1.3

Please excuse my starting a new thread, but as its my first post... What the heck!
There seems to be a lot of discussion on here about QT 7.6 problems, so I just wanted to add my pennyworth, because it has led me a right merry dance down the garden path and without the Apple Discussion Forums; a vital source of information, it may have never been solved?
I have an old iBook G3 running OSX 10.4.11 (Ok, i've heard all the jibes...), so obviously if I want to watch QT movies, I encode accordingly (~320x240@800kbps)... Then... after updating to 7.6 and Perian 1.1.3 the frame rate on these files would drop to Zero?
So...
1. My computer is too slow?
2. Quicktime/ Perian/ Component conflicts etc... ?
3. Hard drive space/ De-fragmentation/ Dashboard hogging CPU etc... ?
Therefore, after trying VLC (they played reasonably well); removing possible conflicting components including Perian; reverting to QT 7.5.5 via Pacifist; cleaning up the Hard Drive... and... Nothing! So... reaching for credit card... New Computer... Nope! (Ok admittedly, I am rambling here... sorry, first post remember)
Eventually, after reading more on Perian issues, I began looking for a previous version...
see post...
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1894108&tstart=30
And after installing version 1.1.2, all the movies were once again restored to their perfectly smooth playback... so, no new computer for me then?
Special thanks, to all the people who post useful advice on these discussion forums...

Kind of an interesting problem, like needing a typewriter ribbon or Gestetner fluid.
LOL. Especially since presumably the OP wants to have this work with the new computer. More like trying to get an electric typewriter to act as the printer for a new Mac. Mind you, if you can find the codec it might actually work. I'm too cheap to buy QT Pro but I find that a lot of the new QT codecs are accessible in my version of Movie Player 2.5.1 (ca. OS 8.1?) I run in Classic.

  • Quicktime 7.2 with Flip4Mac and Perian Plugins.

Any know bugs or the green light to use them .....

    Another green light.
    You may find this useful:
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything:
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
    Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • Quicktime 7.5.5 won't play .avi on MacBook Air w/flip4mac and perian

I have .avi files that are Apple - Microsoft Video 1 codec. They play fine on an Intel based desktop using Tiger and Quicktime 7.5.5 without plugins. But won't work on my MacBook Air (white screen). Installing the Flip4Mac and Perian plugins didn't solve the problem. WRAW codecs play fine. "MacGenius" no help. Any thoughts?

I have experienced the same issue on my MacBook Air with Mac OS X 10.5.5 and QuickTime 7.5.5.
The video format is "Apple - Microsoft video 1" according to QT inspector.
The AVI file plays fine on a MacBook Pro (Early 2008), MacBook Pro (Mid 2007), and a MacPro (1st Gen). All of these have the very latest software updates from Apple as of today (10-10-2008).
I erased the MBA and installed the original 10.5.1 from the restore DVD. *The video played back correctly*. Then I applied all available Apple updates (which includes QT 7.5.5) and the video only displays a White screen in the QuickTime player. (No other third party applications were installed.)
I have not backtracked yet to determine if it video fails as soon as QT 7.5.5 installed.

  • HDC-SD9, iMovie 7.1.2, QuickTime 7.5, and Final Cut Pro

After I read the post, I tested it on my Mac. I can safely say that I can import videos from HDC-SD9 using iMovie and Final Cut Pro now.
Update to QuickTime 7.5 and iMovie 7.1.2 to make this camera work with the Mac.
It seems to be working with Final Cut Pro too.

  • No itunes or quicktime will install and run

I dloaded itunes on home pc before I even had ipod video for this Cmas. It works fine. Needed to get it on my laptop so I dloaded and it kept giving me the error message it encountered an error and needed to close (send error report or not). Tonite I scoped the site and found quicktime was key to the program so I found it on my laptop but it too wouldn't work (kept saying upon clicking to open that this was for installed programs, check to see that quicktime was properly installed). So I dloaded just quicktime and at the install pkg was told I had a "newer version" already installed. How can that be? This laptop is 9 mos old and surely the dload from apple is the "newest" version. So I tried to unintall quicktime and kept getting error msg that qtplugin.ocx could not be deleted. I tried uninstall from quicktime and windows add/remove pgms, then finally deleted all files in the quicktime folder except the one in the error msg, which still cannot be deleted. Tried dloading quicktime and itunes together and keep getting the window to either repair or uninstall. I chose repair 2x and was told all was fixed, but still can't open quicktime or itunes.
I need to get this fixed asap. I already dloaded itunes 2 wks ago and it never worked, so I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same error msg every time.
Have read the troubleshooting section which asks me to get into control panel and select the quicktime but I don't have any quicktime icon in control panel (neither before I deleted it nor now).
    Help!
    Sheila

If you have internet explorer 7 that is your problem. If you really want itunes to work you need to uninstall IE7 from your control panel when you do this IE6 will automatically take over. Then you need to uninstall quicktime (all components) and itunes. Then reinstall quicktime and itunes. This is what I did and our iTunes is working great again. If you don't have IE7 then I have no idea.
    Good luck

  • Quicktime 7.5 and Final Cut Pro is there a problem?

Quicktime 7.5 and Final Cut Pro is there a problem with this version of Quicktime?
i cant capture at all now! I can control my camera but no capture or footage in the window?
I can capture using IMovie fine!

Alister, there's no problem with it on my Mac, nor none that I know of ... I think you must have an install specific issue.
Check your camera setting matches your currently chosen Easy Setup ... in fact, close the Log and Capture window, then go ahead and re-choose the appropriate Easy Setup for your camera and I/O hardware, then choose View menu > Refresh A/V Devices, and then reopen Log and Capture ...
... still no go? if not then post pack with complete details of your hardware and software, your camera, the recording format, any I/O equipment that is in the mix etc.

  • QuickTime Streaming Server and Referenced Movies

Does QTSS adjust it's stream depending on the client device and bandwith like HTTP referenced movies do? Are referenced movies strickly for HTTP delivery or can QTSS make good use of "hinted" reference media?
I can create and stream hinted HD movies with no problem on QTSS. I can also create referenced movies via QuickTime or Compressor and even know how to add the "hinting" perameter to the Compressor workflow for referenced movies. I have the option to use QTSS or the Web Server to stream my HD content but would like to know what is the best option for backward compatibility, browser support, etc.
    Thanks, Yo Bro!

Yo .. I am appauled at the lack of support for such posts .. and the limited answers for those looking for streaming support.
I am trying to learn too .. currently running EvoLV to provide my solutions .. but it is not enough.

  • I am using QuickTime 7 Pro and want to loop my video.  The Loop function is grayed out.  Why?  How can I loop my video?

I am using Quicktime 7 Pro on a Max Mini to play my video on a gallery monitor.  Under View, the Loop option is grayed.  Why?  I need to play the video in a continuous loop all day.  Thank you.

Loop appears to be "broken" in QuickTime Player Pro and 10.7.4.
It's been fixed in 10.8 and also works in QuickTime 10, 10.1 and 10.2.
Use 10.1 on your machine if you need to loop your playback.

  • Quicktime encounters problem and must close. Sorry for inconvenience.

I have downloaded Quicktime now 3 times and each time downloaded it again after first removing it from the control panel. Up to a few months ago I never had a problem and used it for many years as such. I think the problems started when the combination iTunes/Quicktime came on the market but I might be wrong. I have downloaded the combination, then Quicktime separately and iTunes separately but to no avail.
I am an amateur in the field of problem soving so ask for your help. I have the icon sitting on the desktop but when I click on it I get immediately the message:
"Quicktime encounters problem and must close. Sorry for inconvenience." What I don't think I had before is the fact that during installing I say the Icon appearing on my desktop and immediately my computer goes black and start
a reboot. So I suppose my problem can be anything.
I most likely messed something up.
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

What I don't think I had before is the fact that during installing I say the Icon appearing on my desktop and immediately my computer goes black and start
    a reboot.
That's a bit disconcerting. Are you getting a flash of a blue screen as well?
We can make "hidden" blue screens stick around a little longer by using the following technique:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
Make those settings changes, and try another install.
If you do get a blue screen this time, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)

  • Installed Java Runtime and Perian without authentication prompt

OSX LION 10.7.3 MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz i7 Late 2011
It was my understanding (and experience thus far) that any changes to the operating system, including the addition of new applications, would prompt admin authorization and require a password.  I recently installed Jave Runtime Environment and Perian without the required authentication.
I restarted my machine and downloaded and installed Chrome as well.
    Any ideas?

Only if you weren't logged in as an admin user. Very few require authentication.

  • Quicktime 7.2 (and up) slow playout from network drive

Does anybody has a problem with all versions of Quicktime 7.2 (and up) where Quicktime Player doesn't play or open files very slowly from network drives? 7.1.6 works fine. This happens on all my machines.

    Hey Germac,
For me these invisible files were not stored on the desktop as the files i was working with were on an external drive but i guess if the file you are converting is located there or if the desktop happens to be where the resulting file is saved, it's likely these invisible .QT temp files will be created on the desktop.
I've sent info of this to apples quicktime feedback so hopefully they'll look into it.
Here are some apps that will allow you to view invisible files without using the terminal, i've been using the InvibliX app as it seemed to be the most recent and/or up to date but there are plenty to choose from.

  • OS 10.4.10 on G4 using quicktime 7.2 and Avid

    HHeellpp!!!
My system just upgraded to 10.4.10 and Quicktime 7.2, and I'm running Avid Xpress Pro on my system. I have the upgrade for Avid; however, Quicktime 7.2 is not supported, (didn't know) and I need to roll back to 7.1.6. Can anyone help me successfully accomplish this w/o media loss?
    Mucho appreciate!

...Note that an archive and install should not affect either your project files or your OMFI MediaFiles directories, so you can do that without losing any media.
If you are running Avid, you MUST treat your computer as an appliance. DO NOT upgrade ANYTHING until you know for certain that the upgrade is compatible with your Avid version! If you need the upgrade features, get yourself another drive and install the later OS version on that. On my desktop machine, I'm still running X.3.9 and QuickTime 6.5 because that's what works with my Avid. It's a PITA to have to reboot with another drive just to use QT-7 or to burn a dual-layer DVD, but at least my Avid works!
