Quicktime 7.6 NOT playing movie trailers from Apple site???

I have all the latest software OSX 10.56 running on a 3.06GHz Intel Duo but Quicktime 7.6 will not play movie trailers when on the Apple site. When I try, the site advises I need the latest Quicktime which I have already downloaded and installed fresh. It just doesn't seem to recognize it no matter which movies I try and view.
Please help if you can?
Thanks

It's a piece of component software that's used by QuickTime to allow it to decode or encode different types of video/audio formats. The issue for me was that I had an old codec still in my system that should have been deleted/replaced during the last update, but was not. So when QT tried to access what it thought was an appropriate up-to-date decoder, it couldn't process the video with it and gave me a blank screen. Something similar could be happening to you as well.
Try deleting all of the QuickTime components and folders in your system. Because you're using Leopard, I'm not sure all the files will be where they are for me. Do a thorough search of your system and clean out any QuickTime files you find, they'll be in HDD/Library, HDD/System/Library, and HDD/Users/"yourusername"/Library. Then reinstall QuickTime using the installer from Apple's downloads page(or Software update will probably work as well). You'll have to restart afterwards and make sure to repair permissions after you've rebooted(use Disk Utility). Then test out the trailers again and see if that solves it.

  • 10.8.5 ITUNES WILL NOT PLAY MOVIES DOWNLOADED FROM ITUNES

Downloaded the new iTunes last night and it seems to work well with music but it will not play movies I've downloaded from the iTunes store. The sore works, Radio works, I can buy from the store but movies I have from iTunes (Star Trek, The Incredibles, ST: Into Darkeness among others) strat then crash. I get a message about an error with a plug in (FX I think) that has failed or is not found.
Anybody else seeing this? Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

Okay, I think I found my problem. I have SRS iWOw installed and the FX plugin is part of that. If I disable iWow all movies play as they are supposed to.
Looks like I need to contact SRS for an update/upgrade or dump it and find another sound enhancer app.
    Thanks fo looking.

  • Movie trailers on apple site

    Hello,
I may be posting in the wrong place, but, in the last few days, movie trailers from the Quicktime section of Apple's website just don't play right. Either the audio runs as the video doesn't, or, the video pauses part way through while the audio continues, or, clicking refresh will get it to run further through, but, eventually the video pauses while audio continues. Software Update says no new software availble. Did a recent update change something? I've looked at Quicktime preferences in System Preferences but don't see anything that jumps out as needing to be changed. Thanks for any suggestions,
    Jay

    Thanks, Kirk!
I had not thought that Energy Saver settings might be involved. I had recently set the Sleep option to "Never" for computer sleep, 30 minutes for Display sleep, and checked the box to allow spinning down the hard disk whenever possible. This was because, I had set up an external drive and the backup program (SuperDuper) was sometimes finding the external drive, but, mostly not finding it when the computer woke up for the early AM backup. So, now the backup works OK. I had not ntoiced that the Video/Audio problem started when I made those changes. Nor do I understand it! I put the computer to sleep as you suggested, for a minute, and, upon waking it up, the movie trailers played through OK and also the Leopard demos. I wonder, how often might I have to sleep the computer to reset whatever it resets? Is there any way to set Evergy Saver preferences to not interfere with QuickTime, and, also let my backup run OK? Anyway, thanks for your help!

  • No more access to trailers from Apple site and iTunes.

A few days ago I discovered that the page - www.apple.com/trailers - would no longer fully load in either Safari or Opera. All of the graphics at the top of this page were missing (the graphics providing visual links to trailers), and if I clicked on one of the trailer titles as listed below on this page, the new page would open but it would not fully load, also not displaying the trailer graphic. I have a DSL connection and have had no trouble linking to and playing trailers from - www.apple.com/trailers - in the past. The pages would all load quickly, and the trailers play on cue.
I decided to try to access the trailers through the iTunes Music Store, but, again, the Movie Trailers page would not fully load. After many minutes, it would still not load all the way, but where there should be small graphics for each of the trailers, there would appear only graphics of a broken chain link. All of the icons for music and audio books on this Trailers page display normally, and their links work just fine. All other features of the iTunes Music Store work just fine, too - music, audio books, podcasts, etc.
I am able to go to the official web site address of a movie (using Safari or Opera) and if it has a trailer that plays in QuickTime, I have no trouble playing it. This indicates to me that the QT plug in is working fine on both browsers. I have QT movies on my HD, and they still play just fine. The problem I'm having seems to be restricted to just the Apple web site and iTunes Music Store sections that have to to with access to trailers.
A week or so before I noticed this problem, I had upgraded to QT 7.0.2. I tried switching back to 7.0.1, but this made no difference, and have since upgraded again to 7.0.2. I tried removing "QuickTime Plugin.webplugin" from the Internet Plugin folder, but this didn't help either. I don't know what to try next, and I'm sure that I didn't add any thing new to my computer or upgrade anything, or change any QT settings just before this problem of no access to movie trailers cropped up.
Any help on this matter would be well received!

    The Problem is solved.

  • QuickTime Player won't play movie bought from iTunes Store.

Finder's Quick Look says that QT Player can play it. QT Player says to first authorize through iTunes. iTunes says that it's already authorized.
I've seen the same problem in various places all over the net but it just started happening to me with 10.8.3. Never had a problem in 10.8.2 or earlier. Any ideas on how to fix?

Some information on Quicktime player. The last two links are you other applications you can download to see if they can play the movie:
    Video - QuickTime Media Formats
    Video - QuickTime Player
    Video Player - Divx
    Video Player - VLC

  • Why can't I render the audio portion of a movie trialer from Apple site

I have been downloading apple trialers from the apple website for a year now, and importing them into Final Cut. I put them in a sequence, and then render them. It has been working fine until now, all of a sudden, the audio won't render. I have tried opening a new project, I have made sure the sequence settings are correct, but still, it won't render the audio. The video still renders fine. Help.

Apple is on to you...whatever you do, don't answer the door.

  • Quicktime X will not play some Apple Mpeg 4 Movie Files

    Hi,
Having a strange issue.  Quicktime X will not play some of my Apple Mpeg 4 Movie files anymore.
The files open fine in Quicktime 7, but not Quicktime X.
I receive the error message "The document could not be opened. A required Codec is not available"
I have installed other codecs (Flip4Mac as well as Perian), but no luck.  Have re-installed Quicktime X (10.1) and software is all up to date (running Lion 10.7.2).  The movie file works fine if I import it to iTunes as well.
Called AppleCare Support and they could not come up with an solution.  Does anyone here have any ideas?
    Thanks!

(BTW, I just realized this was an MPEG-4 topic - my issue wasn't necessairly centered around that architecture)
Yes, I naturally assumed that you were having problems at some point with MPEG-4 Part 2 or Part 10 content.
Since I mentioned "from," I should have mentioned what the codec/wrapper was (it was captured into a .mov file using DV/NTSC via "Capture Now" in Final Cut Pro studio V7, via an analog-to-digital converter).  What makes this confusing is that files captured with the same settings sometimes open right into QuickTime X with their audio/video intact, and at other times, only the audio shows up (where upon opening that same file in QT 7, we can see both audio and video). Interestingly, the problem files icon shows up on the desktop as the generic movie icon, whereas the "normal" files' icon is the first frame of the video.
May we assume at this point that the source video data is DV-25 with 16-bit Interger (Linear PCM) audio sampled at 48.0 KHz and it is the scratch MOV file that may or may not open/play correctly in QT X but always opens correctly in QT 7?
Ultimately, though, this is an unimportant point in solving my issue. Why? Well, if I can successfully open the problem files in Compressor (e.g., see/hear the video/audio), then I can theoretically re-compress (or "re-wrap?") them to whatever codec I want - ideally one 100% compatible with QuickTime X.
I took a test file, placed it into Compressor, and applied the DV/NTSC setting to it (yes, I know, the same setting the file already had). After re-encoding (which took very little time), the file was perfectly executable in QuickTime X - both Audio and video showing as to be expected, and no real difference in quality (not that VHS source is quality to begin with).
This sounds as if the "problem" file's container may be the source of the problem. As I don't know if your Compressor test is passing the data through to a new faile container, I would make an additional test here. If your version of QT 7 is keyed for pro use, I would simply use the "Save As..." File menu option to to create a new file container. In fact, I would probably just create a "reference" file rather than another "standalone" file here—a very, very fast operation—and then open the secondary file in the QT 7 "Properties" window to ensure all of the data tracks (1 video, 2 audio, and 1 timing) are present. If all looks good, I would then try opening the reference file in QT X to see it it now plays. (I.e., whether you use a reference file here or a standalone file, the object is to see if the QT X player will now recognize all contained data tracks whether resourced by reference or physically contained in/via the new wrapper.)
Could this have been answered without knowing the complete "from" specs? Probably… which is why I posted to the help forum in the first place - the goal being some other reader may have had the same issue, and had a handy solution or suggestion, saving me the time of experimentation (what forums are great for).
I don't know about you, but I would still be looking at profile/level combination settings to see if an an assumed MPEG-4/AVC video and/or AAC audio settings had been properly encoded for QT playback.
I have no doubt that there's a technical difference between the files that created this issue in the first place. But, the solution of re-compressing with an identical codec did the trick, which for this project is good enough for me.
Recompressing data is slower than rewrapping data which is slower than rereferencing the data pointers. But, if your solution works, then that is all that matters.

  • Latest version of itunes does not support Quicktime can not play movie from library

Latest version of Itunes does not support Quicktime.  I can not play movies out of my itunes.  Please fix

I don't usually download video from the iTunes store. I had a couple of long plane rides coming up and thought I might have time to watch the Stanford IOS7 programming class. On the plane I discovered this issue which has gone unaddressed since 2011 and has been worsened in Mavericks. in 2011 the advice was to open iTunes' get info pane and click run in 32 bit. That worked at least for some people. In Mavericks, iTunes will not launch in 32 bit.
For the files you can locate in the finder ( mine are at
    /Users/raine001/Music/iTunes/iTunes\ Media/iTunes\ U/Developing\ iOS\ 7\ Apps\ for\ iPhone\ and\ iPad/1.\ Class\ Logistics\,\ Overview\ of\ iOS\,\ MVC\,\ Objective-C.mp4
) you can click on the file in the finder and it will launch in QuickTime. For some reason on the plane I could see the first lecture in the iTunes view but, although I could see all the other lectures in the finder, I could not see the first one.
Ah well, maybe some other year I'll think about getting up to speed on ios7. Heck, maybe by then they will design a decent user experience.

  • Itunes 11.3 not playing Film trailers or Purchased TV movies

Itunes 11.3 not playing Film trailers or Purchased TV movies, will only play music video trailers! Plays songs fine! Running Mavericks 10.9.4 on iMac mid 2014. Have 8gb ram and 1.4ghz processor with turbo boost to 2.4ghz. So it is not a power issue. Is this a bug in the newest version of iTunes?

Well, movies play from my iPad and my iPod via both the HDMI cable and Apple TV just fine and I was going to ask for details regarding your difficulties.    However...

Hi...I have the OS X v10.6.8 but my QuickTime is not playing .mov files. How can I fix this?
Depends of the specific kind of file you are trying to play. MOV refers to the file container. Any data compatible with the system used to create the file can be placed in an MOV file. If you don't have the same codecs available on your computer to play back the file or if your version of the QT player does not expect expect the encoded data to be in an MOV file container, then it cannot/will not play the file. Use the Finder Info window, media player Inspector/Information window, or a dedicated utility to determine what compression formats were used to create the MOV file and then install the required codec(s) if available.

  • Quicktime not playing .mov files

i have a problem with quicktime. it doesn't play .mov files. if i try to play .mov files that are embedded in a .pdf file, a window opens but stays blank, although the progress bar moves. if i try to open the files in quicktime, there's no window, just the progress bar that moves. i run the latest version. i've already tried reinstalling - didn't help, uninstalling completely and installing - didn't help.
    help?
    many thanks!

    Quicktime>Quicktime Player Preferences>Advanced
Click on the MIME Settings button.
In the next window that opens up make sure that Streaming-Streaming movies is enabled (checked).
While you’re at it make sure all the boxes are enabled by clicking on the corresponding triangles so that they are pointed down.
This will show the “hidden” boxes especially the *QuickTime Movie* box. This box will enable you to play .mov files.
    Click the OK button.

  • Quicktime content will not play in Internet Explorer 8 or Chrome

    Hi,
So I go to the apple website to watch some ads, the iMac videos and movie trailers.
I have quicktime 7.6.4 installed and working.
I have Tunes 9.0.2 installed and working.
I have Vista 64 bit home premium installed.
Internet Explorer 8. Quicktime content will not play. Neither the Mac ads, or the iMac videos or the movie trailers. I get the message "Quicktime required. Free download".
Google Chrome. Quicktime content will play the Mac ads and the movie trailers but will not play the iMac videos although it does try to load the video but fails to play it.
Firefox 3.5.5. Quicktime content will play the Mac ads and the iMac videos and the movie trailers.
    Help.
    Thanks

Just ran into this same problem after updating Itunes and Quicktime.
Got a Ipod Touch for Christmas, and downloaded latest version of Itunes and Quicktime and installed it without issue.
Quicktime movies (Mov) play fine, and mp3's play via Itunes, but in IE8 all I get is "QuickTime required. Free download" when I try to play movies on-line, such as trailers from the Apple Movie site.
Checked the plug-in folder for IE and all the QT files seem to be there.
I have uninstalled Itunes and Quicktime, restarted and re-installed but I get the same result.
    Anyone got any clues ?

  • I updated my computer and now I can't play mov files from anywhere

I updated my computer and now I can't play mov files from anywhere - won't play in FCP 7, Quicktime. Not sure what updates they were specifically since i hit the "update All" button without going over each one. Please help!! operating on 10.6.8 with FCP7

Just take a look at the last few days posts here and you'll see many people with the same problem and some possible solutions.
But you should never do any software updates unless you have a bootable backup of your startup drive.  FCP7 is no longer being supported by apple and updating anything is fraught with dangers.

If you are using a Sony MPEG-2/AC3 camcorder, then make sure QT v7.6.3 is installed in your "Applications/Utilities" folder. If it isn't, then install it from your Snow Leopard installation "Extras" installer package and then re-install your QT MPEG-2 Playback Component as per the MPEG Streamclip installation/Snow Leopard instructions.
