Quicktime 7.69.80.9 fails to start on Win 7, uninstall did not work

iTunes updated and now my QT pro will not load.  I get the following error message:
Faulting application name: QuickTimePlayer.exe, version: 7.69.80.9, time stamp: 0x4cf444ff

I uninstalled QT, did a reboot, removed all QT files including any in /window/SysWOW64.  Then I reloaded a stand alone version of QT while I was not connected to a network with my Norton Firewall off.
Still no luck.  Then I removed all Appe software from the machine and reloaded just QT.  Still nothing.
What am I missing?

Interesting. The pref file issues have more commonly produced a sort of error-message-free launch failure (except that a button for the Player shows in the Task Bar). But the symptoms of this sort of thing tend to be subject to change without notice (which is why I thought I'd better check).
The pref files can be difficult to track down. (Where they show up on a Vista or 7 box seems to depend on whether or not you're 64-bit, or possibly even depending on which versions of QuickTime have been installed on the machine. haven't quite worked out the rules for that yet.) But the following instructions are worth a try.
First we need to check some View Settings. Log back into your usual account.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
Click OK.
In Computer, open Local Disk C:\ or whichever drive your user documents are stored on.
Open the "Users" folder.
Open the folder with the name of the Windows User account in which the QuickTime Player isn't displaying properly.
Open the "AppData" folder.
Now the hunt for the QuickTime preferences begins.
Open the "Roaming" folder.
Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player. Does it open properly this time?
If there was no QuickTime folder in \Roaming\Apple Computer\, or if the Player still doesn't open properly
Quit the QuickTime Player taskbar button again.
Go back into the "AppData" folder.
Open the "Local" folder.
Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player again.
If there was no QuickTime folder in \Local\Apple Computer\, or if the menu has not been cleared
Quit the QuickTime Player taskbar button again.
Go back into the "AppData" folder.
Open the "LocalLow" folder.
Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player again. Any luck this time?

  • Lightroom 5.2 "assertion failed" on start-up; prior LR 4 remedies not working

    Hi folks,
I'm getting "assertion failed" when trying to start LR 5.2.  Looking through old threads I've tried the remedy suggested for LR 4, i.e. renaming the .agprefs file and letting LR build a new one (which it does, verified in Windows Explorer) but I still get the same error.  LR asks me to enter my country, then the license key (which is pre-filled), but clicking "Finish" takes me immediately to "assertion failed".  Double-clicking the .lrcat file in Windows Explorer produces the same sequence.
LR was working fine last time I used it, 6 days ago.  I've added nothing to the computer since; there are no other or earlier copies of LR on the computer.  Lenovo Thinkpad T420, Win 7 Pro 64-bit.
    Help!
    Jon
UPDATE: I just tried it again so I could write down the license key in case I needed to remove and re-install LR - and it started OK.  All I did differently this time was enter my name and e-mail address in the "Register now?" screen, then hit "Finish"; I didn't even click "register now".  Weird.

A work-around that I am using is to run Lightroom as an administrator on my Windows 7 system (right-click on the icon and choose run as administrator).  Everything then works ok.  I also needed to run as an administrator to be able to update some plug-ins I was using.  I fixed the plug-in update issues by changing the permissions on plug-ins folder.  I suspect that it is a similar issue with the maps.
I have not figured out what folder or files need to have the permissions altered to stop Lightroom from working in the unelevated state but if someone reading this knows please share.  I saw some posts related to the same issue but on Macs but the Windows configuration is different.

    Hi ,
I am new to Labview & Matlab related Software. I am using LabView 8.20 and Matlab 6.5.1.199709 . I generated simple .dll(for adding 2 numbers) file with the help of Matlab and trying to use that dll file in Labview using "Call Library Function Node" control, then I am getting the following error.
the application has failed to start dll because libmex.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem
Could any one help on this?
    Thanks & Rgds
    naveen

    Hello Naveen,
The libmex.dll is installed by Matlab. It should ideally be located as \bin\win32. Check to make sure that this DLL is there.
Also add the path to the DLLs to "Path" system variable (On XP: Start>>Control Panel>>System>>Advanced and click Environment Variables)
    Hope this helps,

    Hello, Jdragone.
Thanks for the question.  Start with completely uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.

After the Apple logo appears, what happens then? Can you hear any sounds or if you tap on the screen, does it seem like apps can open or are you just seeing a black screen? You might have a hardware problem, but you can try restoring the software and see what happens.

    Hi patanai,
Regarding DISM command, you may take use of Windows 10 build 10041 ISO:
you should mount the ISO as a drive first, or take use the install Media (USB or the DVD drive), right click the ISO and choose to
mount, after that, you could access the ISO through Window Explorer.
Then open CMD with admin rights, type the following command:
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:X:\Sources\Install.wim:1 /LimitAccess
Where the X: drive is the mounted drive letter.
Before that, please try to create a new User account and check if the issue insists.

  • Firefox 3.6.3 does not save any history, does not save passwords. I have read the forum and checked my settings (ok), started in Safe mode (still does not work).

Firefox 3.6.3 does not save history, nor passwords. I have read the forum and checked my settings in Privacy (all ok), I restarted Firefox in Safe mode (it still does not remember history or passwords). Running on XP. I think these problems started when I upgraded to 3.6.3.

I had the same problem after an upgrade to 3.6.3.
I was using password manager for a number of web sites before. Not using cookies but password manager.
After 3.6.3 auto upgrade it did not work.
I could not enter private browsing mode.
When I looked in tools>options>security at my saved passwords the list was blank. The button in the saved passwords dialog that normally says "Show saved passwords" was actually blank (the button was there but there was no text on it).
I did have my old bookmarks and was able to create new ones but oddly the bookmark all tabs menu function wouldn't work.
I decided to reinstall firefox 3.6.3. There is no way something with that many bugs got out!
I was able to get the full firefox executable from http://mozilla.com
I closed all firefox windows and ran the installation.
After re-running the install and starting firefox everything was fine. It must have been a bad download or the original install got messed up somehow.
I hope you have the same good fortune I had!

Thanls Ernie. I found the solution. My problem was previous to 10.10.3. It looks like the installation of final cut and uninstallation of fcp delte a plugins that was needed for Aperture. I recover from time machine my plugins in Library/frameworks/plugin.manager.framework and now Aperture works ! Ouf....

  • [SOLVED] apache daemon fails to start on boot, but rc.d restart works?

I installed apache from the official repos and followed the instructions in the wiki for configuring it. I checked to make sure the http user exists, and I /etc/hosts looks good (to me). Upon boot, the daemon fails to start and I can't load local web pages, but running "rc.d restart httpd" works just fine. Since I'd rather not start it manually every time I boot, is there a way to fix this? Also, httpd is the last daemon in my DAEMONS array.

Either way, it still fails on boot.

The SIGTERM are from reboots, yes. I'm not absolutely sure that the process isn't running; I just know that I can't access http://localhost immediately upon reboot. I have to restart the httpd daemon, which works fine. How would I be able to tell if it's just hung?
I checked everything.log, and I don't see anything that leaps off the page to me.

All I notice is that my system's time is having a few problems, since you'll notice that events occur at 22:00 and change, then 17:00 and change, then back to 22:00 and change afterwards. Could this be the problem? I've had the CMOS batteries peg out on me suddenly in the last few weeks. I would hope this sytem is not also suffering a similar fate. Nothing else was happening on my system except for the standard processes from /etc/rc.conf and other standard ones, since I've just been rebooting, checking the logs, then posting here.

  • Today, I got a "update iTunes and tonight, I can't access my iTunes. I uninstalled and reinstalled and the error message reads: iTunesexe-unable to locate component. App has failed to start due to MSVCR80.dll was not found: Reinstall may fix" but hasn't.

I received an iTunes update today and updates files. Tonight, I couldn't acces my iTunes. I uninstalled and reinstalled and still getting same error message: iTunes exe unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.DLL was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.  I've done it several times and still get the error.  I'm fearful I have lost all my music.  What can I do?

  • Application has failed to start b/c qtcf, dll was not found

I recently had my computer serviced by the Geek squad for virus removal, I tried to use itunes and connect my ipod and I keep getting this message by: itunesHelper.exe- unable to locate component. "This application has failed to start because QTFC.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I have tried to install Itunes and quick time player, but the same error pops up and I can't close the tab. Any suggestions?

    QTCF.dll
Let's doublecheck on the current locations of that dll.
Go "Start > Search" and then do an all files and folders search on QTCF.dll. In "More advanced options", make sure the following items are all checked:
    *Search System folders*
    *Search hidden files and folders*
    *Search subfolders*
What QTCF.dll files do you find, and what are their file locations?

  • The application failed to start (msvcp100.dll and atl100.dll not found)

I recently have been getting this error upon opening up LabView 2012. I get two seperate error messages. The first says "The application failed to start because MSVCP100.DLL was not found. Re-installing this application may fix the problem." The other message says the same thing but it is ATL100.DLL that is not found.
I think these files are part of the C runtime engine, but I don't know what I need to install to fix this issue.
    Solved!

    Hello boochbrain,
I believe you are correct that these files are part of a runtime engine; specifically, the C++ runtime library.  Reinstalling these libraries could definitely alleviate these errors you are seeing.

  • Not Start up, Key board and Mouse not WORKING

I have Pavilion G7-2017us Notebook and it has Windows 7 operation system. Symptom: Start the computer, go through to the windowns log-in page, but Keyboard and mouse are frozen, not WORKING. Can't log in.
force Poweroff computer and use ESC, F9 can go to system diagnose page, keyboard and mouse are WORKING now. Tried "Start-up test",
Processor Check,Memory Test, Hard Disk SMART Check are Passed. Only Hard Disk Short DST is failed. Failure ID : GLMP00-69B7NV-MFPX1G-60SJ03
So Start-up test is FAILED. Tried "System Tune-up", Processor Check,Hard Disk SMART Check are Passed. Only Hard Disk Short DST is failed.
Failure ID : GLMP00-69B7NV-MFPX1G-60SJ03.So System Tune-up Is FAILED. Tried "Hard Disk Test", Hard Disk SMART Check is Passed and Only Hard Disk Short DST is failed.Failure ID : GLMP00-69B7NV-MFPX1G-60SJ03.
So Hard Disk Test Is FAILED. When I performed above test, keyboard and mouse were WORKING properly. Tried Safe mode, but can not log-in because keyboard and mouse are not working at that time. I cared about documents and was able to copy some files to external harddisk under DOS command interface. But right now I can not adjust
this laptop back to normal DOS from safe mode log-in. When I started up it. it goes through to log-in page in Safe mode. Also F11 is not
working because I did not make system recovery point and it can not be recoveried. Please help me for this issue. Thank you very much.

Thank you, Visruth.    When you said the failure ID indicates failling or failed HDD, do you mean that the old HDD is bad and probably all the data on it will be lost ?    Yes, in order to salvage data from the old HDD,  I have tried to buy an external enclosure and take that harddrive out to make an external hard drive. Connect it through USB , but the new laptop can not recognize it and I can see this external hard drive shown in the device manager, but I can not see more detailed information of that drive. Click it and it asks that do you want to format that drive?      So I would like to salvage data from the old HDD. I have been able to enter into DOS command in the old laptop and copied all data on my desktop in C drive. But right now I have forced this old laptop to run into safe mode, which I think maybe I have a chance. But keyboard and mouse are still frozen at log-in page. I do not know how to get back to DOS command as I did before. If I can go back to DOS command, I may use DOS Xcopy to copy out all my data in the old HDD to new external drive. Would you please show me how to get back to DOS command from safe mode log in? I have tried F8, F9. no success.   Another way I am thinking is that to take the old HDD as an external drive, connect to a new laptop, change that new laptop's start up sequence, put the USB external drive start up as the first choice. I really do not know why my keyboard and mouse in the old laoptop do not work at some time (log-in page). Please let me know your advice. Thank you very much.
