Quicktime 7.7.1 plugin not displaying .tif legibly

Since the update to Quicktime 7.7.1, I have not been able to view .tif files legibly in either Firefox (9.0.1 at the moment) or Chrome. I've tried updating the browser, disabling and re-enabling Quicktime, updating my system from 10.6.8 to 10.7.4, etc.
I am looking at .tif files in black and white (text images) from database websites. Whereas previously they displayed with some grayscale scaling, now these files appear as if the scaling was done for display using only black and white pixels (so a pixel representing a part of the image that was primarily white with a little black appears as white)--the result is rather unlegible texts. As .tif is still a file type used by online databases, this is very, very inconvenient, particularly for scanned text documents with a high pixels-per-inch resolution.
Although I can kludge through this by downloading the files and viewing in Preview (which does the image scaling "correctly"), what I end up having to do is load up a PC with a .tif specific plug-in installed. That, I think you would agree, is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.
I have found nothing on this topic through websearching yet. Is this a known issue, is there a fix, and if not, is there any chance of getting it reported as a bug.

Since the last security update my QuickTime Pro 7.1.3 isn't opening or displaying files/clips on websites. It just shows a big Q with a ? in it.
I've tried uninstalling, downloading a copy of QuickTime 7, but that's not fixing it either.

I found this posting on the boards and it DID solve my QuickTime problem. You may wish to try it. I did not need to restart my computer. I only needed to reload Flash after I made the recommended change and restart my browser. The posting was:

I figured it out...you will need to open quicktime.
    -go to quicktime preferences.
    -go to the browser menu
    -on the advanced settings
    -click on MIME settings
-the Miscellaneous file settings needs to be unchecked.
    restart your computer.

  • I have just purchased Quicktime Pro but Trim does not display IN and OUT options. It trims to the frame on display.

I have just installed Qicltime Pro but when I edit a video file and try to set the In and Out points, it does not show any way to set them. It trims the video down to the one point on display. Have I installed the software correctly?

QuickTime Player 7 Pro is in the Utilities folder.
To set in and out points set the position you want in the timeline and tap the i key. Move to the end of your selection and tap the o key. To step frame by frame move the playhead by tapping the left/right arrow keys.

  • Plugins not displaying

I am unable to open my plugins. When I click on Plugins, the sidebar opens but just shows "Loading" and never displays the plugins which are installed.

I cannot open the Plugins no matter which way I try. If I click on the sidebar plugins icon I get the same results as clicking on Firefox/Add-ons. The sidebar opens and there is no list of plugins just a "Loading" in the middle of the sidebar which never completes loading. I am unable to see which addons are installed and working or get to any of their options.

  • Displaying TIF images from a Servelet?

    Hi All,
I have a servlet sitting between database of Images (of type bmp, tif, DICOM) and the HTML query interface.
Baed on the user's input, the servlet queries the database and displays the images. The servelt's code contains
    out.println("<a href=\"javascript:NewWindow(1,'" + url + "','" + fname+"')\"><img src = \"" + url + "\" width = \"100\" height = \"100\" alt = \"" + url+"\" />  </a><br>" + fname + "<br><br>");
where url is the path to get the image on the disk.
This works successfully for bmp images but not for tif images. Somebody told me, it does not display tif because IE does not display tif. I would like it to display DICOM images later.
    Any suggestions?

    1. Convert the image to a format that IE understands.
    2. Use a decent browser.

  • Tiff (or tif) file created in Photoshop is not displaying in Firefox 2 or 3 with Quicktime plugin

I embedded a tiff file that was created in Photoshop but it is not displaying in Quicktime/Firefox.
It works in other browsers but not Firefox 2 or 3. And another point is that if the Tiff file is created in any other graphics application then it works!
It leads me to think that Photoshop might be adding some metadata to the file that Quicktime/Firefox is not liking.
Any ideas on what might fix this?

There are different types of TIF files with different kinds of contents (compression schemes, channels, bit depths, etc). It is no surprise that you might get different results with different browsers/plugins.
What kind of TIFF are you using? Why are you not using a more standard web image format that does not require the overhead and hassle of an optional plugin?

  • Help!!! How to make quicktime plugin do not display on top of the web page?

Any one knows how to make quicktime plugin do not display on top of the web page??? I've tried to change the zIndex property using javascript, but it doesn't work.
Because we have some widgets which are required to be moved to anywhere on the page, we use iframe to implement that, so it can display on top of quicktime plugin, but the plugin flickers sometimes when we do some operation on the widget which is on top of it.
Anyone can helps me? Thanks in advance!!!

Check the docs. Trent is usually very thorough in his
    instructions.
Hint: I haven't studied it but it probably involves modifying
    one of DW's
    built-in Behaviors.

  • Movie files (.mov) do not display "a plugin is needed to display this content"

Mac user. Movie files (.mov) do not display "a plugin is needed to display this content". What plug-in is required and where can I find it?

Aha, you already have QuickTime. Unfortunately, Firefox didn't find it. Can you try the method described in this thread (deleting a file and having Firefox re-generate it) and see whether it works for you?

  • TIF images not displayed (FRM-92101)

    (SR 7047226.992)
    Environment
    Forms 10.1.2.0.2 DB 9.2.0.7
    Forms 10.1.2.3 DB 10.2.0.1.0
We have problems viewing a small number of TIF files in a form. All of these TIF files are generated in exactly the same way by the same program, and have the same attributes.
They are saved in the DB (as blob) and opened in a simple form in an image filed.
There are 3 kind of images:
    - good.tif - this displays correctly in the form
    - bad.tif - this normally displays, then when another action performed in the form will crash the forms session with FRM-92101
    - no_display.tif - this does not display in the form, but also does not crash the forms session.
If I open the image in Image Viewer and save it and load it into the database, that always works.
What is wrong with those images?

It is likely that although you may believe the images are all exactly the same, they are probably not. For example, Forms does not support multi-page images. This is common with fax images. Other things not supported by Forms are most compression formats. This applies to all image formats including JPG, TIF, etc. Forms also does not support GIF files with transparent backgrounds. Any format which include EXIF data is also not supported. For images which originated from a digital camera, the likelihood of EXIF data being embedded is high, as this is very common.
These are just a few areas which can cause problems. There are others. In short, Forms has very limited support for images.
I would recommend that you look closely at the following:
    1. What is the file size? Do only small files work correctly?
    2. Does the image contain multiple pages? You will need a viewer capable of exposing multipage images in order to determine this.
    3. What compression type is used to create the image, if any? Again, an imaging editing or viewing tool that supports exposing this information will be necessary.

  • Safari not displaying Quicktime controls.

Since changing to Snow Leopard and Quicktime 10, Safari is no longer displaying the controls, or playing the audio on my website. Firefox handles the embed code fine, and Safari under Leopard does too. My code matches what is suggested on Apple's site so I am out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Try posting in the QuickTime forums too.
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=122
    Try deleting these files also.
    com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
    com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist
    com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX.plist

Move those files to the Trash and see if that makes a difference.

  • Automator says running OK but not displaying quicktime movie

When I play an automator script that is meant to play a quicktime movie, it reports that it is running correctly but the movie is not displaying.

Between clicking quicktime movie > save, did you look at the settings under Options to see what codec you were exporting to? You should have.
Was "Make movie Self-Contained" checked on? If not, have you also deleted the original source footage? You should not have.

  • QuickTime 7 not displaying video in 16.9 Anamorphic

I'm sure other users have discovered this frustrating problem with QT 7 and if anyone can point me to a solution I would be very grateful.
After exporting my edited Final Cut Pro movies (Which are displayed correctly in 16.9 widescreen) through QuickTime conversion all my films are displayed in squared 4.3 with ugly letter boxing left and right of frame.
Can someone tell me why QT 7 does not play a movie in it's correct and intended viewing ratio and if there is a magic trick to diplay my movies properly please?
I am willing to upgrade to QuickTime Pro if this is the only solution available!!!!
Happy New Year to you all.
    P.S. I'm using the following:
Sony HDV Z1 Camcorder (True widescreen 16.9) Squeeze mode
Final Cut Studio with Final Cut Pro HD 4.5

QT 7 utilizes the "Current Size" attribute to display a file in its proper aspect. Thus, if you want an anamorphic file to display properly in both QT 7 and QT X, you must ensure the file is embedded with both the anamorphic flag/values (for iMovie '08, '09, '11, QT X, etc.) and the "Current Size" value (for QT 7, iTunes, GarageBand, etc.)
I am willing to upgrade to QuickTime Pro if this is the only solution available!!!!
QT 7 Pro would be the easiest way to re-scale the file for proper display in the QT 7 Player (and all other players that utilize the "Current Size" setting). Otherwise, the normal way to correct the problem would be to re-compress the the video. (Note that the reverse is not true. QT 7 Pro will not embed an anamorphic flag/value to make an improperly displayed file in QT X display properly.)

Since you do not provide any specific import-export information, I suspect you are editing in an anamorphic compression format that loses the embedded flag/value during export. When this happens, the file is assumed to be in a 4:3 aspect and the "Current Size" attribute is automatically set for 4:3 display dimensions.
