Hi, I'm using a virtual machine for my testings for its ability to revert any changes I've done in between installation attempts. The behavior remains on a real machine.
The issue can't be related to the OS itself or by missing components since the installer runs just fine when I install it manually.
That said, I've been able to workaround this by running a VBScript to install the MSI in SCCM 2012 instead of running it directly (weird behavior, but it works...)
For those interested, just create 2 applications, one for Application Support using the native MSI deployment type (no issues there) and one for quicktime using script deployment type (set application support as dependency for quicktime).
Now just but the VBScript in the same folder as quicktime.msi (will also give the MSI return code to SCCM) :
Dim oShell, ReturnCode
Set oShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
ReturnCode = oShell.Run("msiexec.exe /i ""quicktime.msi"" SCHEDULE_ASUW=0 ASUWINSTALLED=0 DESKTOP_SHORTCUTS=NO /L*V SETUP_Install.LOG /qn", 0, True)
WScript.Quit(ReturnCode)
Set oReg = Nothing
Set oShell = Nothing

  • Silent install of iTunes+Quicktime

I'm trying to do a silent install of itunes using the following command...
    iTunesSetup.exe /s /v/qn
and it is silent (no dialog) until it displays the "Welcome to the iTunes 6 Installer" window. After clicking Next, it goes back to installing silently.
How on earth do I stop that initial screen from displaying? I want to be able to deploy itunes automatically with the user not seeing anything.
I can decompress the iTunesSetup.exe with WinRAR and install just QuickTime silently from the msi but the iTunes MSI still displays this annoying welcome screen. I'd rather do it natively than have to repackage with WinINSTALL LE.

    No.
I setup new machines at work on a regular basis for deployment to staff and to make things easier, I am in the process of setting up some automated installs of software at the end of the unattended windows installation. Everything else works fine except iTunes.

  • Silent install of Quicktime disable update

I need to push silent install of Quicktime to Windows Domain workstations (XP and 7). This install needs to be without user intervention and at the same time disable the auto update option. Are there command line switches that will allowt this to happen?

I don't have specific info to hand for QuickTime, I'm afraid ... just iTunes:

  • CS2 silent install won't work

Excuse me for posting this again but I wanted more people to see it..
The issue is that my license for Creative Suite 2.0 is a volume licnese
which means I have one license number for the suite and cannot install
indiviudal programs using the individual msi. I have to us the setup.exe to
install the suite as a whole.
Adobe has a script on their website that they say you can use to install CS2
silently. They will not support it nor will they give any advice on how to
do a network install. They say use the script and that is all we can say.
I can not get the xml script to be based on to the msiexec. I keep getting
the default install screens (pick language, enter serial number, etc).
It seems the only way I can install this using app launcher is to use
snapshot or Adminstudio and do a repacking of the software. It is more
limiting but adobe licensing keeps me from using the individual msi.
    Does anyone see another solution?
I have pasted the xml script below to see if anyone can see a problem with
it and why it won't pass the info to the msiexec.exe.

Funny how I can help you based on my experience. I believe you are using
the setup.exe in the root folder. You need to use the setup.exe in the
Createive Suite 2.0 folder. It has the CS leaf icon. Good luck. Let me
know if you have success with the silent install.
When I look at the log file it appears that the setup.exe is looking for
hardware/OS verification but doesn't find it. Yet eventaully it launches
the setup and then I can add all the info.
Do you have a volume license, corporate license, or what? My is a volume
    license.

  • Silent install of Forms6i Runtime

I want to do a silent install of the Forms 6i Runtime for several of our users on win2k and Win95
I have managed to do silent install okay without any hitches.
But is there a command for the Oracle Installer which tells it not to create the Start Menu shortcuts ? The users don't use the icons provided by the installer, they run the icons I provide as these load the runtime with a specific form.
    thanks

Hi,Install Shield has a silent option that allows to record the options that have to be selected by the user. You first have to launch the install with a record a setup.iss file by launcinh setup.exe /r (or -r)Then setup.exe /f1 with the location and name of the iss file will do the trick.Consult installshield.com knowldege base for more information (perform a search on setup.iss).Please be aware that depending on the OS the iss file may need to be different.EricPartake Consulting

  • Problems performing silent install of CR XI Rel 2

We are using the instructions from the installation guide to perform a silent install by running the command
    setup.exe ADDLOCAL=ALL EXCLUDEDOTNETFILES=1 EXCLUDEJAVAFILES=1 EXCLUDERDCFILES=1 CLIENTLANGUAGE=EN REBOOT=ReallySuppress PIDKEY=(actualKey) INSTALLDIR="C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 11.5" /live c:\temp\cr_11.log /qn
The installation runs but fails at the end of the installation when attempting to put the shortcuts in the users or All users Start Menu with the error of MainEngineThread is returning 1603 (when under user ID) or MainEngineThread is returning 1604 (when under All Users).  The installation is being run with an administrator access login ID, so access to either area should not be a problem.
The installation is on both Windows 2000 and XP pc's and the win32 directory of the msi installation files have been copied locally to the machine as part of the process to eliminate network lag.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get past this?

Check the readme and help files on  how to.

  • Quicktime and itunes wont install. I have never had quicktime installed on my computer before

I recently bought an ipod touch 4g and realized that I needed itunes to activate it. After downloading itunes it wouldn't install, no error messages or anything, when I click on the installer it just doesn't do anything.
After downloading several versions of itunes (older versions) I finally found one that started to install. Then it told me that I need Quicktime on my computer in order for it to install. So I downloaded the latest version of quicktime and had the same problem, when I click on the installer, nothing happens. I tried downloading older versions of quicktime but still had the same problem.
I have never had quicktime or itunes installed on this computer before, so I know that it isn't an older version of the program hidden in my computer that is preventing the installation from happening.
My computer is running on Windows 7. I know that there wasn't a problem with downloading the software, the files weren't corrupted or anything. There are no error messages, the software doesn't even partially install. When I click on the installer, nothing happens. I have tried running the programs as an administrator and that doesn't change anything.
I have tried so many different things, but can't remember everything that I tried. Yesterday I spent nearly 10 hours trying to sort this out because I was determined to get my ipod running. I only stopped when my internet credit ran out and today after buying some more, I am trying again. Please help.

I appreciate the quick response, thank you for that.
One thing I did try was windows cleanup utility and searched through the program files for all apple software, but had none. I even deleted the temp files on my computer, and on my internet browser, but nothing happened.
One thing that I didn't think of was deleting the installation files in my downloads folder, pretty silly of me but I didn't think it would make a difference. I also spent about 2-3gig on downloads yesterday and didn't want to delete the files but as a last resort I did and emptied my recycle bin, then downloaded a fresh copy of Quicktime and finally it installed!
Now I am in the process of downloading a fresh copy of iTunes, the download hasn't finished yet so I haven't had a chance to install it yet but I have a much better feeling about it this time after deleting all the old installation files from my downloads folder. If Quicktime worked after that, I am sure iTunes will.
I can't believe it was something so simple as deleting the installation files in my downloads folder and emptying the recycle bin. I had seriously gone through my entire computer looking for any little file that was related to Quicktime or iTunes. I didn't even think of the two most obvious places. I spent so much time and credit downloading multiple files and my computer even got a virus when trying to download a copy from an unauthorized source, I had no problem getting rid of the virus, but struggled with Quicktime and iTunes, that is why I got so frustrated! I feel like an idiot now :-P
Thank you for your help. I still havent installed iTunes yet, so fingers crossed. I think it will work now though.

  • How to handle "/9.2.0/root.sh as root from another window" in silent instal

    Hi,
I was successful to start a silent installation of Oracle9iR2 using a responsefile on my System RHEL 3. But the installation ends soon and a wrong successful install message:
Error :*** Alert: A configuration script needs to be run as root before installation can proceed. Please leave this window up, go run /opt/app/oracle/product/9.2.0/root.sh as root from another window, then come back here and click OK to continue. ***
The installation of Oracle9i Database was successful.
I use -ignorePatchConflicts for ignoring the patch conflicts. But How do I handle these issues. Where I have to run root.sh ... etc in teh Non Interactive Install.
I am scripting solution for non interactive install and manual intervention to run these root.sh shell scripts at different points of install is not a good idea as it wont help me automate the install.
Please let me know if anyone has solved this problem with -silent install.
    Thanks in advance.
    Senthil

    Thats me (OP) again:
    I tried setting:
SHOW_ROOTSH_CONFIRMATION=false in the response file. But still no help. The installation exits at run root.sh prompt point. How I can effectively deal with it in a script?

  • Open File - Security Warning with Network-based Silent Install of CS4

I am attempting to run an enterprise deployment of CS4 Design Standard Edition onto a pool of WinXP Pro workstations. I placed all of the install files on a networked server running Windows 2003, and generated from there all of the requisite .xml files (install, uninstall, and override files). From this network share, I can successfully run a silent install.
HOWEVER. Multiple times (two or three) during the course of the silent install, I receive the same pop-up security warning from Windows XP (definitely an OS message, not anti-virus or other) that reads as follows:
    Open File - Security Warning
Do you want to run this file?
    Name: AIRApplicationRunner.exe
    Publisher: Adobe Systems Incorporated
    Type: Application
    From: (server IP address)
I have tried excluding Adobe Air from the installation package, but I still receive the same security prompt. This is sufficiently a hassle to have to click through these prompts in a silent install. But more importantly I am unable to run the silent install as part of a logoff script because for all intents & purposes it is no longer a silent install (i.e. it requires user intervention). To top it off, I found when testing the logoff script the prompts are suppressed and the installation fails prior to the bulk of the installation (Photoshop, Illustrator, & InDesign).
I'm sure that I could run the install by copying all of the files to each local workstation, but again that would defeat the purpose of an easy, network-based install. In the past I was able to install CS3 in this fashion with no troubles, which of course did not include Adobe Air.
Can anybody offer a suggestion as to how to disable these security messages, or alternately, how to entirely exclude Adobe Air from the install package? I have found a VB script that is supposed to address the security warnings issue, but to run the script also requires the user to accept it at a security prompt.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
    -Dan

I'm now able to deploy design suite premium cs4 successfully.
The issue for me was that the AirapplicationRunner installs some useless software. I worked around the issue with the Airapplicationrunner prompt by removing any apps that are installed using that method. By "removing" I mean marking that app as "donotinstall" in the deployment file. The apps I removed are these adobe codes for adobe media player, adobe.com, adobeair itself. The below is from my deploy.xml file used for the silent workflow:
    donotinstall
    donotinstall
    donotinstall
If you mark those three adobe codes as "donotinstall" the prompt never appears and the real apps get installed just fine.

I have been able to do a silent install of all the previous versions of Firefox using the -ms switch. But when I use it on the new version, the user interface comes up and it never did that before. I have tried different silent switches but non of them worked.

Not the most experienced at this but are you using the stub installer, maybe you can try the classic installer and try again?
    Hopefully this helps.

  • How can I perform a silent install of an application AND use "run executable after installation"

I am trying to do a silent install of a program I built using LabVIEW 8.5.  I also need to call an exe after the installation, so I am using the "run executable after installation" option on the Advanced tab of the installer.  I then pass the following command lines to the setup.exe:
    /qb /acceptlicenses yes /r
This installs the LabVIEW program successfully, but does not then run the additional exe afterward.  If I run the setup.exe normally (with no command line parameters), the additional exe gets run.

  • SAP BPC 7.5 Client, Silent install but with progress bar, can it be done?

    Hi All,
I need to uninstall the BPC 7 Client and then deploy 7.5 to around 250 users accross the country.
We have SCCM (SMS) in place so will be using that.
I have the uninstall of 7 sorted and I have the response file etc sorted for the silent install of 7.5 and the install runs, silently, no issue.
Is there a way though that one can "turn on" the progress bar during the install? So that users dont shutdown or disconnect in the 15min it takes the install to run.
By way of example, in the SAP Business objects enterprise client on can configure the Silent install so that although it never prompts the user for a reponse there is a progress bar that runs, indicating that there is an install in progress.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bryan

    Hi Sebastian,
No worries, I am using a pop up countdown so the users have some idea on progress. Would love to know why the install runs for over 15min.
In the above case the uninstall was easy as we had deployed using MS AppV so it was just a case of deleting the advert in SCCM and the application was pulled from the users desktops.
For 7.5 I am using a vbscript with following to uninstall:
The install string pulled from the clients registry uninstall folder:
    RunCommand Chr(34) & "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{EC8753EF-EE78-48B5-A4D0-FBBD237B5D53}\setup.exe" & Chr(34) & " -runfromtemp -l0x0009UNINSTALL -removeonly"
We create a custom link, so this deletes it.
    DeleteFile "c:\Users\Public\Desktop\SAP BPC 7.5.lnk"
You should be able to create something similar for 7.0 & 7.1
    Hope that helps,
    Bryan
