Quicktime 7 does not export to mpeg-2
Hi,
Is this inherent to QT 7? I noticed it as a deficiency in Final Cut Pro 3.0.2, tracked it back to this version of QT. The export choices are the same although with different wording. Did not have this problem after a total hard disk crash which needed everything re-installed. FCP presumably with the QT version on disk. Updates on both FCP and QT 7 did not resolve this. FCP and QT 6 work fine in OS9; both have the mpeg-2 export option.
How can I get QT 7 in OS X to perform this export to mpeg-2 function?
Thanks, regards,
Reinhart
Hi Kirk,
Next related question : can we get around mpeg-2? It was needed for compressing from Final Cut Pro 3.0.2 and importing to DVD Studio Pro 1.5, no other compression is accepted. Are there updates for DVD Studio, e.g. for using mpeg-4, H.264 etc? By eliminating the mpeg-2 compression from Quicktime Apple have effectively rendered the use of FCP (3.0.2) and DVD Studio Pro 1.5 (in Tiger) useless; 1000$ for nothing. I can use these programs in OS 9 but not everybody has that option. You mentioned Toast as an alternative for mpeg-2. Which version? I have 6.11, had bad experience with version 7. Any advice?
Thanks, regards,
Reinhart

Audio Does not export with ideo in quicktime conversion
I know i did something with a keyboard shortcut during the editing process, but i cant figure out what i did and how to change it back. What my issue is that when i try to export it to any format in quicktime (in quicktime conversion) the video is ok, but my audio does not export at all.
I dont know what went wrong but i should note i pressed something on my timeline that i didnt realize what it did. Its hard to explain what it looks like, when you press on different clips all the clips on my time line quickly turn a more silver/light color and then change back to the normal color(not effecting the video quality just the thumbnails). But it is has a weird color
is there a way i can reset all settings without adjusting my video clips?
Sound settings
Format: Lubear OCM
Channels: Stereo (L R)
Rate: 48.0000 hHz
Render Settings:
Quality: Normal
Linear PCM Settings:
Sample Size: 16 bits
Checked: Little EndianHi(Bonjour)!
Does the audio play when you run sequence?
Did you toggle off the monitor icon at the left side of timeline for audio track?
When export to quicktime conversion, select quicktime movie and click OPTION.
From this point, you should see a checkbox for SOUND. Be sure to check it ON.

How can i recover corrupt .mov files that quicktime does not recognise?
we recently 'lost' a whole day's footage by accidentally deleting it. in trying to recover these files we have used many different programs and have had odd results.... sometimes the data is recovered and shows only thumbnails but not the proper film and othertimes says tht quick time cannot open the link because it doesn't reconise the codec. these clips were filmed with a Canon SLR camera and we have searched the reformqatted sandisks as well with the same result.... quicktime does not recognize the file.
any thoughts? it would be a tragedy to lose this footage... well not really, but you know - a whole day's work!
thanks in advance for your help.
GabiI managed to rescue damaged AVCHD footage using photorescue. Some files were not complete, but I got them to play by trying different players like VLC, or mpeg streamclip, then exporting the clip as a new same format file. One or two were too badly damaged to rescue, but I got most back eventually.

Quicktime will not export .wmv
This started happening last week and i've tried to export .wmv's on a couple of other machines in the office. Quicktime will not export a complete .wmv of any quicktime movie. It will only export about 1/2 to 3/4 of it. Very very strange. Any ideas appreciated. I'm running version 7.4
You need to buy the Pro version of flip4mac to export to wmv. More than likely you have the trial version of flip4mac. The trial version does let you export the whole video. http://www.flip4mac.com/

Audio from videos does not export to Itunes/QT when exporting slideshows.
Created a slideshow with photos and videos. Vids have sound- iphoto lowers the music to allow for video sound to play through. It does not work when exported however. Any suggestions? I just changed the settings in Itunes to allow the stock tracks to play (finally)- this is the last hurdle.
Welcome both of you to the Apple Discussions. I don't know if it's a bug or not but Quicktime does not support that type of audio manipulation.
My workaround was to export the slideshow w/o music as QT full quality (.dv extension), import into iMovie HD 6 and add the audio there where I could mute the music where I wanted. iMovie HD 6 was a part of iLife 6. I kept it as it's, IMO, much more capable for this type of audio work than the newer versions.

How do I get a virtual lab to work on this computer. The technician said the CD is not compatible. Maybe corrupt. He seemed he did not know
what he was talking about. I asked him was it any software I could download he said no. This CD works fine on my other computer, no it is not an apple computer. And I use quicktime on both computers. But on this apple computer quicktime does not play this CD, which this type
of CD works better with quicktime. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem. This is a new computer, I would hate to think their is nothing that can be done.I need step by step instructions on how to get my virtual lab cd to work. The technician said cd not compatible or is corrupt. I do not believe their is nothing that can be done. When I put the cd in the side slot nothing comes up on the screen. I have tried several ways, the technician did not seem very knowledgeable on what to do. Also this cd plays fine on my other computer which is not an apple computer. Is there anything I can do to correct this?

I just purchased Export PDF to Excel and it does not export anything usable. Your terminology should not be "export" but paste image, which is of no value. Please cancel my account and refund my money. What a shame you would advertise this as a product.

Namaste InDesign gurus,
I have a problem at hand. Wondering if anyone has encoutered similar problem before? Any help is greatly appreciated. And if you're in San Francisco bay area - I can buy you a lunch :-)
Short description: Devanagari font in layed out in Indesign (using IndicPlus) does not export correctly to a PDF. All the ligatures are assembled and displayed in the PDF.
Adobe Indesign Version: InDesign CS5 Design Premium - regular U.S. version (not ME).
Steps I took:
I purchased CS5 Design Premium and also purchased the IndicPlus plugin to author sanskrit documents in InDesign. I create Sanskrit text using either of the following methods.
1) Itranslator
2) Paste the devanagari from the Itranslator directly into InDesign or paste it first into MSWord and then copy from MSWord and paste it to Indesign.
It doesn't matter how I paste it. After I apply the IndicPlus character/paragraph style so that the sanskrit looks good in InDesign, when I try to export it to a PDF. The PDF does not display the ligatures currectly. It just lists all the characters in order without assembling.
I've spent a lot of money buying CS5, IndicPlus and then I can't even create a simple PDF document from InDesign. It is very frustrating.
Has anyone been able to successfully export a sanscrit document from InDesign PDF ?
(Please let me know if my problem description needs more fleshing out).
I could create the PDF from MSWord directly but I'm trying to use indesign to layout my book. If InDesign cannot export to PDF I'll just have to use MSWord for my book layout. I've spend probably scores of hours trying to learn InDeisn and formatting my book content - seems like it is all going to be waste.
Is MSWord the best choice or only choice for laying out books that have sanskrit text in them?
-RaviHas anyone been able to successfully export a sanscrit document from InDesign PDF ?
Not Sanskrit, no, but plenty of Hindi, Nepali, Marathi, and other languages written in Devanagari script - so it should be possible. I don't even use IndicPlus, which by most accounts makes working with Indic text much easier.
1) Itranslator
I've never seen this, but a quick Google led me to the homepage of ITranslator for Windows, where I saw this:
Itranslator 99 (Build 1.3.0.86) & New Beta Version
uses 8-bit true type fonts and is compatible
with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP.
For more information, click here.
Itranslator 2003 (Build 2.0.0.38) & New Beta Version
uses 16-bit Unicode-compatible fonts and is working
only on Windows 2000 / XP / Server 2003.
For more information, click here.
So, if you're using ITranslator 99, there's the problem - those "8-bit true type fonts" won't work in InDesign. Can you post a sample of the text you're trying to paste into InDesign? Name the font(s) you are using, both in Word and in Indesign, and if possible make a small sample of the text available for us to test. It's also possible that InDesign is using a substituted font, which could cause this problem. So, if the font name in InDesign has brackets around it, you know that InDesign doesn't actually have that font installed and is auto-substituting. Also, if you go to View -> Screen Mode -> Normal and the text is highlighted pink, you know that the font has dropped. (Unless the highlighting for dropped fonts was turned off - check in Edit -> Preferences -> Composition and make sure that "Substituted Fonts" is checked.
Also, for what it's worth, is there any way you could Place your text instead of copying and pasting? This may be cause of your problem - but even though it probably isn't, it's still worth a try.
Lastly - no, I've found InDesign to be superior for typesetting for almost all languages, but the learning curve is pretty steep, and many of the problems faced by people working in non-English languages are not easy to research when you have a problem. -
RECIEVED AN AUDIO RECORDING ON A FLASH. PLUGGED IT IN. DOWNLOADED VLC MEDIA PLAYER AS RECOMMEMDED. TRIED TO PLAY.
MESSAGE RECEIVED SAYING QUICKTIME DOES NOT RECOGNISE THIS FORMAT. WHAT TO DO PLEASE.You could add Perian. It may help (...or not).
Wait, you received and audio recording and you are trying to use a video player (vlc) to play it? What kind of file is it? Does it have a filename extension? If it is .wmv then you might want to install Flip4Mac. Then you could play it with QuickTime. -
I use the CS6 suite with Acrobat XI at windows platform.
When I want to save a file from InDesign as .pdf with output intention eci_iso_coated_v2_300 the result is a .pdf with more than 300% ink coverage.
I tried to transform the result in Acrobat XI into this standard output intention, but also the result has more than 300 % ink coverage.
What is the reason of this bug?
Before with Acrobat X this worked without problemsHi Rob,
I was told the new way to work would be to draw files via Bridge direct into the InDesign file
and I thought automatically the color would not be changed.
my colourmanagement setting in bridge for the whole CS6 was ECI isocoated_V2_300
The Illustrator file was saved without color profile.
In this test file I used 3 kinds of black: background of pirate in cmyk 79,34 / 72,78 / 59,38 / 79,88 = ink coverage 291 %
DÜSSELPIRATEN in “black” (if you would convert this in the file with the cmyk button it would be the same ink-percentage as before
“e.V.” was set to 100 % k
I set the preferences for Acrobat from InDesign CS6 as pdf X4 with profile eci isocoatedV2_300 in three ways:
no color conversion
convert to profile
convert to profile keeping existing values
in all tree files the pirates background has 322 % ink coverage instead of 291 %
Why does Acrobat convert “black” in the wrong way? If I click in Illustrator on the 4c button to convert the “black” into 4c it is 291% ink
Acrobat should come to the same result with all profiles: iso coated V2 and iso coated V2_300
The same happens also by saving as .pdf X3 or .X1
The minimum what I expect is, that Acrobat reduces ink coverage for black to 300 %
I also made test with the new ECI profiles for laminated prints from 2012.
And with newspaper profiles
In this case the ink coverage comes below 300 %, but only when I choose convert to profile.
And then the 100 % k converts to cmyk, what I don’t want to have with text.
Is there no way to reduce ink coverage below a special percentage without changing Text 100% k
And is there a bug in Acrobat XI with the ECI IsoCoated_V2_300 Profile? For there is no color reduction below 300 % in all conversion settings.
I can’t test this with Acrobat X or IX, for my computers with this software don’t run with CS6 64 bit.
enclosed you find my files
Kind regards

Quicktime does not allow to change video position from streamed video
I just wanted to watch the newest Apple event stream. For many ears I have watched them typically from Mac as they works from there perfectly.
Now I installed quicktime for Windows (without iTunes) and I watched 34 minutes from the event. Then suddenly the sound went off from the quicktime. I tought the system sound went and I checked the volume and other player and they worked fine.
Then I tought it was about streaming problem and I allowed it to continue to 39 minutes. Then I tought I could scroll backward to position where the sound went off. But I couldn't at all. I can drag the position slider somewhere, but it always jump back to the place where it is streaming. When I stop mouse, it jumps back to current position. So if I keep mouse cursor moving and dragging same time the slider, it moves.
Neither I can not start a video (any video, was they a trailers or Apple event videos) and jump to the known position to continue watching.
So to me if I would now like to watch the latest presentation, I should watch first 40 minutes again. As I am not allowed to rewind to wanted position.
I tried this on my laptop as well and I got exactly the same problem (the scrolling).
Is it really so that Windows Quicktime does not allow rewind/forward functions at all on quicktime videos?
Is there tweaks to get that possibility as I do not want to watch 40 minutes and be sharp when it comes so I can continue where I left and not miss the position and never could rewind back?QuickTime Pro does not allow to make video capture from desktop - only from camera. How can i solve this problem?
Use the QT X.1 Player to capture desktop video. QT 7 Pro does not and never has had this feature which was first introduced in the QT X.0 Player. -
ITunes v8.1 does not export music library in plain text w/proper CR/LFs?
Just an FYI...I can recreate this every time. Has anyone else tried and seen the same issue with the new v8.1? I never had this issue with the previous iTunes release. Thanks!
The new iTunes v8.1 released yesterday does not export the music library in plain text with proper CR/LFs.
To recreate this bug:
Select Music from your library
Go to File -> Library -> Export Playlist...
Save as a Music.txt and view the output file.
You will see a continuous single line that contains correct tab separations. However, the correct end of the subject headers in addition to each song (which should be it's own line) is missing proper CR/LFs to format the file correctly.Seeing it with 8.1 under 10.4.11 too.
I was really hoping that 8.1 was going to fix the problem with text export mangling accented characters, not to keep that bug and add a major new one on top of it! -
Scrubbing video in the timeline of the new Quicktime does not seem te be possible when I play WMV-clips. Is there a way around to allow scrubbing through the timeline below?
The timeline in het old version also enlarged when one chose for 'fulls creen display'. Now it stays small, giving smaller increments and less precision when scrubbing. Not handy! Thanks. Yes, I mean audio & video. In Quicktime 7 the whole scrubbing scale underneath stayed the same width as the enlarged screen, but in the new version the scale remains much smaller than the total width. That makes scrubbing much less precise. I tried 'fit to screen', but it stays smaller than before. Scrubbing does work now, though. That apparently had to do with the WMV-plug-in.

QuickTime does not automatically open video clips when double clicked
Quicktime does not open video clips in iPhoto when the video clips are double clicked (nothing happens). Quicktime will open the video clip if I open quicktime
and ask it to open the video clip. Regular photos will expand as they should when they are double clicked. It worked. I don't see why the Protected Mode is enabled in the first place, if it were to cause issues.
Anyways, thanks Sabian,
