Can anyone please help me? I'm trying to install Quicktime 7 (on Windows XP) but I keep getting the following error message:
    Quicktime error
Error 1312. Cannot create the directory C:\program Files\Quick Time\QTSystem\Quicktime MPEG4.Resources\fr.lproj. A file with that name already exists.
I've tried locating the file, but it doesn't seem to exist.
    What should I do?
Thank you very much in advance.

okay. the initial trouble with the QT component of the itunes may have left dodgy program files/folders/installation-configuration-information on the PC, which is interfering with the subsequent attempts at the QT install (even though nothing is currently showing on the PC).
working on that theory, here's what we'll try first.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of any leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got any existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try another careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
does it go through properly this time? if so, does your itunes launch properly?

  • Quicktime Installation Failed: error -3

I have been trying to install iTunes & Quicktime on my new Dell Windows computer without success. I get the above error and Quicktime will not install. iTunes will not function without Quicktime. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple support and Dell support who could not assist me. I have tried all the remedies suggested in this forum and the discussions obtained by Googling "quicktime installation failure." I have uninstalled and reinstalled the standalone versions, tried cleaning the registry of quicktime references and tried Microsoft installer cleaner without success. I would appreciate any assistance offered. This appears to be a somewhat common problem that Apple claims to be totally unaware of. Thank you.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the standalone versions

  • Manually copy a Quicktime installation from one Mac to another?

We have an office full of computers with a very specific setup that includes Quicktime 7.1.3. And no, I cannot upgrade to the newer versions of Quicktime due to various technical issues that have arose during our testing. I'm setting up a new Mac station but have discovered that Apple removed all links for Quicktime 7.1.3. So i'm curious if i'd be able to manually copy/paste all the relevant quicktime files from one Mac to another (same specs on both). Would that work? Anybody have a list of files that Quicktime installs?

See if this will work (I've never tried it):
    HD>Library>Receipts
Check to see if you have a QuickTime or QT7.1.3 pkg file. If so, click on same. See if it will re-install QT.
If the above works, then you will have no need to transfer QT from one Mac to another.
I wonder if you can transfer just the .pkg files? Hmmmmm.............

  • Quicktime Installation error message

I have been trying to install iTunes and keep getting the error message "The older version of Quicktime cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group".
I followed some of the instruction from previous posts. I've deleted any file with "quicktime" or "qt" in the name, restarted and tried installing just QT w/o iTunes. Still keep getting this error message. When I tried just installing QT, during the installation I got an error message saying it could not locate the ".msi" file, so I cancelled then got the "older version" message. Any ideas?

  • Installing iTunes 5 - Hanging at Quicktime Installation

I was posting in another thread for a while, but now the thread was deleted due to no technical problems asked or something along those lines. The problem I have with iTunes is installing it - it hangs at the Quicktime installation point, and doesn't end.
I really didn't want to resort to changing my system settings, but if there are any safe methods to try and fix it, that would be good. I know there were some people with the same problem, but I don't know where the thread ended up.
I've installed the newest iTunes 5.0.1.4 or whatever it is, and that doesn't make any difference.
As I said in the thread that got deleted, Apple should really release a version of iTunes that is essentially the same as iTunes 4.9, but with the new skin of iTunes 5. This is my opinion. It is obvious that the workings of iTunes 5 was changed quite drastically, and this seems to be causing the problems. If it had the same workings of 4.9 and the skin of 5, surely we would have the best of both worlds. This would buy Apple some time to sort out v.5 fully, and keep their customers happy in the meantime.
I've read some stories on this forum and was shocked by how people were forced to buy new routers, hard drives etc. because of this problem. It really is terrible that they had to fork out so much money. And I can't believe that people were told they must pay $50 to talk to the customer services.
Right, I've kind of gone off topic a bit and I don't want this thread to get banned also, so, if anybody could please give me advice on how to get my iTunes to install I would be very grateful. Thankyou.

    Ok do this...
    1. Make sure you have that file called "mapi32.dll" found in your Windows/system 32 folder.
If you cant find it let me know, I can guide you through it.
Next, make sure All these are started: TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, Windows Management Instrument, and WMI Performance Adapter.
How to do this: Click on the Start Menu;Right Click on my computer and then choose manage in that menu. In the left hand panel click "services and applications" and double click services. Find those files and then click them and see if they say started and automatic.
Next: download QuickTime 7 stand alone. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
If you are running mcafee or nortons, disable your firewall, antivirus and all that. Then restart
Next: Download Bonjour for Windows. Heres the link: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html
Restart your computer. Remember if you have that anti virus crap, turn it off for the DL.
Next: Download apple itunes and restart, turning off all virus programs again. It should work from there. Good luck

  • QuickTime installation breaks all Java programs.

There is a bug in the QuickTime installation program for Windows that causes all Java programs to fail whenever QuickTime is installed or updated. As part of the installation, QuickTime updates the system environment variable CLASSPATH to reference a Java .jar file needed by QuickTine in order to run properly. This reference is C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\lib\ext\QTJava.zip.
The problem is that in Windows, any file path that contains whitespace characters must be enclosed in quotation marks. This is because on the command line, Windows interprets any whitespace character to be a parameter seperator. So when Windows tries to resolve the file path, it resolves to two seperate paths, "C:\Program" and "Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\lib\ext\QTJava.zip". This causes all Java applications to generate the following error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Files\Java\jre1/6/0_01\lib\ext\QTJava/zip.
The solution to this problem has been well known for years, is widely published, and is very simple to implement. Enclose the file path in quotation marks, so that the CLASSPATH entry is exactly as follows (including quotation marks) "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\lib\ext\QTJava.zip". This tells Windows that everything inside the quotation marks is a single parameter, which then lets all Java applications run properly. Everytime there is a new version of QuickTime I have to field numerous complaints from co-workers that they can no longer run our Java applications. This bug has existed for at least two major release versions, 6.x and 7.x.
    Please fix this bug.

A jar file does not have to be an installation program. The jar file can be your entire program neatly encased into one file. If you mess around with the manifest file, the jar file can be executed by double clicking on it.
Example: You have a program that you execute from the command line using: java Program
First, write a text file that has:
Main-Class: Tagssave it as manifest.txt. Make sure to put a blank line at the end of the file. Then, on the command line, type:
    jar cvfm Prog.jar manifest.txt *.class
Done! Double click on Prog.jar and let me know if that is what you were looking for.

  • How can I embed the Quicktime installer into a projector

    Hi
I'm in the proccess of completing a large multimedia project in Director that has a good deal of Quicktime content.
Many of the people who will be making use of the end result don't have quicktime on their computers.
I was hoping to find a way of embedding the quicktime installer into the application so that the proccess can be as idiot proof as possible.
I don't have a great deal of experience with embedding things in Director, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

You can't (readily) "embed" an un-supported file type, like an executable, into a Director file. Instead, you ship the installer alongside your projector, or in some other known relative location, and then run it if you need to. Buddy API is a useful xtra in this situation because it will help you determine whether QT is installed, and which version, and also run the installer if/when required

  • Quicktime Installation Type

I am trying to install quicktime, but I need to install the full version instead of the 'basic version' because I believe I need the 'authoring components' in order to run exportfm plugin from FM Pro 7. The problem is that the only option during installation is 'basic' and I'm guessing that these authoring components are not included in the basic version. Do I need to buy QT Pro to have the choice of 'basic', 'full' or 'custom' install?
    Many Thanks

I am trying to use a function in filemaker called convertimage. I get the error message 'The required QuickTime resources are not available. A full installation of QT 4.0 or greater is required. ExportFm's ConvertOmage function cannot be used'. I found the following discussion (see below) and so am trying to uninstall and reinstall QT in a full version. I have trashed my previous QT and now just need to reinstall, I think, so that I can see if this helps.
    Discussion Excerpt:
    [Q: QUICKTIME
In the MediaManger demo files, I can't run most of the examples. I keep getting the message that 'The required QuickTime resources are not available.' What do I need to do?
A: Several of MediaManager's commands (such as ConvertImage) require QuickTime to work.
If you do not already have this installed on your computer, the installer can be downloaded for free at .
You need to make sure you are installing the FULL version of QuickTime. For the QT-dependent commands to work, MediaManager needs components of QuickTime called the Authoring Components. These are automatically installed with the full version. During the installation process, the installer will show a screen asking you if you want to do a minimum, full, or custom installation. The default is set to minimum. You must manually select the full installation before proceeding with the installation process. When the installation is complete, you will need to restart your computer.
    Q: QUICKTIME
I just installed QuickTime, but the ConvertImage command still doesn't work. What's wrong?
A: As mentioned above, you must install the full version of QuickTime, which automatically includes the Authoring Components, for MediaManager to work properly. You may have installed only the minimum version of QuickTime, which will not allow MediaManager to perform its ConvertImage command. During the installation process, the QuickTime installer shows a screen asking you if you want to do a minimum, full, or custom installation. The default is set to minimum. You must manually select the full installation before proceeding with the installation process. When the installation is complete, you will need to restart your computer.
    Q: QUICKTIME
I realized that I only had the minimum version of QuickTime on my machine, so I just installed the 'full' version of QuickTime. But MediaManager still isn't working. Why?
A: You may need to first UNinstall the older QuickTime files before installing the full version. The QuickTime installer won't always update all files if it encounters previously installed QuickTime files. We've found that the only way to make sure all of the "full" files get installed is to first uninstall all QuickTime files. Even though the uninstaller will try to warn you against completely uninstalling all QuickTime files, go ahead and do it anyway. We've never come across any problem doing this. Then immediately follow up by doing the full install, and then restart your computer.]

  • QuickTime Installation FAILED!! "Error Code: -1"

Hello. I think I've just wasted 5 hours downloading the new iTunes 6. When I install iTunes 6, it installs fine. But when it reaches the part where it downloads QuickTime7 there is an error code message- "Quicktime installation failed: Error Code : -1" I don't know what to do. Now my iTunes won't pop up. Then when I close the error screen, it says this- "1628: Failed to complete installation". I keep on trying to install iTunes 6, but the same thing happens again!!! Please, I need some help to solve this problem, without iTunes, i can't update my iPod Mini!!!
    Thanks.

This might not be exactly the same problem but lots of people (myself included) had problems after installing iTunes 6.0. I did the following and it finally installed correctly.
    I went to
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301
and downloaded the Cleanup utility near the bottom of that page. When it installs on your machine it will scan your computer for every installer every ran on you're machine. Only select iTunes and Qtime and delete those 2 installers. Then I went to add/remove programs and removed iTunes and Qtime. Prior to this Qtime would not unistall but now it did. Funny thing was there was no prompting by windows once I hit "remove/repair" in the "add/remove programs" function.
Then rerun the iTunes 6.0.1 update. That had been failing to install Qtime prior to this but now it installed and I see all my music again and iTunes works. Let me know if this does the trick, I hope so.

  • Quicktime installer thinks that I have a newer version installer

I had iTunes (not sure of the version any more). I had problem

The installer seemed to work, but would not run. I then
