Quicktime 7 is choppy

I have an older flatscreen iMac running Quicktime 7.6.4 with 1.25 GB ram installed (maxed out). The video is choppy. Any hints on how can this be adjusted?

Try making a adjustment in the QT settings to see if that may help things out. Open the QT control panel, click on the Advanced tab, under Video, try selecting Safe mode(GDI only)

  • Quicktime playback very choppy

    Hello,
I have recently purchased a MacPro (late 2013, 8 core 3GHz, 64 GB memory, OSX 10.9.2) and this morning it started playing video very choppy.
First off, there were some mp4 videos on my drive that all of the sudden I'm getting an error message that Quicktime can't play them. Almost as if a piece of software had gone missine or a bad upgrade (which I haven't done in the last few days).
The .mov files I have gotten to play play alright if they're very small files.  Anything else will play for a bit )10-30 seconds) then first the audio starts cutting out then the video starts to get really choppy. It's like Quicktime is running out of memory, but that can't be the case with 64 GB.
Additionally, and possibly related, work in FCPX has slowed way down to about half the speed of my retina MBP. Could a video card have gone bad?
    Anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks!

also, if i put the video on an external hard drive, it runs fine.
Interesting ... fairly rare sort of problem, but it might be worth checking if the new drive is currently set to PIO rather than DMA. There's information on how to switch a drive to DMA in the *Modify your System Drive Configuration* section in the following document:

(iTunes uses QuickTime for video playback, so a lot of the same basic troubleshooting principles apply.)

  • Quicktime plays very choppy

I have a kodak easyshare camera and when I put the videos from my camera on my computer it goes to MOV format. When quicktime is trying to play the video it plays very slow and choppy. ANd you really can't watchit that way. I don't know how to fix this. My camera records in HD, i don't know if that makes a difference. How do I play my videos on quicktime? Or how do I make it so I can play it on something else? Media player does not recognize the MOV format.

I'm having a similar problem on a PowerBook. I noticed the problem after downloading the QT security update. After experiencing the problem, I opened the same .mov files in RealPlayer and did not experience the same problem. It appears to me that QT is not playing the files at the proper FPS rate. Frustrating.

  • Keynote transitions and quicktime movies very choppy, not smooth

When playing a slideshow, my slide transitions and Quicktime movies are not smooth, especially when using Magic Move for a transition. There is also a long delay for the start of a transition, even if delay is set to zero. I believe I have adequate hardware but any suggestions are appreciated.
Oddly, if I export a Quicktime version of the presentation or view in "Rehearse Slideshow," all transitions are smooth. Any tips for better playback performance while in Keynote? I would use the exported QuickTime for the actual presentation if there was a way to automatically stop/start playback at the end of each slide. Is there??
    Tech Specs
    Keynote version 6.5 (2110)
    OS X Version 10.10
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)
Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Graphics: Intel Iris 1536 MB

A number of recent posts have reported similar issues, all running on MacBooks.
I have not experienced these issues on desktop machines.
Try deleting Keynote, empty trash then install from Mac App Store
When playing Keynote, close all other open applications.

  • Imovie exported to mp4 choppy audio on PC QuickTime player

When I created a mp4 file from imovie, my client with a PC who has a QuickTime player hears choppy audio.  It won't even open in his Windows Media Player bc of Codec issues.  Then QuickTime plays it but audio is all choppy.  It plays fine on my Apple.  What am I doing wrong?   If I create a QuickTime file, which I'm doing now, is there a special audio setting I should change so this will work on a PC?
    Thanks!

When you export out of iMovie are you doing it using Share> Export QuickTime file or Export Movie? Believe it or not, you can export to Movie and rename the file extension from .m4v to .mp4 and get that to play on any Windows machine with Windows Media Player installed. It maybe a simple matter of saving it out to Movie, renaming it and sending that one along to the client, see if that one works better.

  • Videos playing in Quicktime on iPhone 4s are choppy

Any video I watch from the Facebook app or that launches in Quicktime is very choppy.  Are there any known fixes?

  • Quicktime playback issues in windows 8

For some reason quicktime files are choppy and jittery during playback in Windows 8.
I have the latest Quicktime installed with no other codecs.
I tried playback in the quicktime player as well as in adobe products (premiere, after effects, etc.).
Here's a preview of what the playback looks like:
    youtube.com/watch?v=BghtZznedvo
The same rotating star video plays fine on my windows XP machine.
I know this is not an Adobe problem but I was wondering if anybody had any ideas?
    -Pete

That would be great if I could get away from Quicktime, but unfortunately Quicktime is the industry standard. I produce stock videos and animations and the stock sites only accept quicktime format.
Maybe I'll wait until Oct 26th and buy the retail version of Windows 8 and then do a complete re-format, etc.
It's weird but it doesn't seem to matter if it's an H264, Photo JPEG, or Photo MPEG encoded Quicktime file.

  • New Macbook Pro / Leopard - Choppy graphics performance, sluggish animation

I just got a new Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz 15" featuring the new Nvidia 8600m graphics processor. I previously had the Core Duo Macbook Pro that had the ATi Radeon x1600.
I was expecting the new macbook to be smoother, if not leaps and bounds smoother and more responsive graphically when compared to the previous model. For example, anything animated in Leopard is choppy and staggering like Dashboard, Genie effect, scrolling web pages in Safari. It almost seems like the video card is struggling, or there are driver issues with the Nvidia chips in Leopard and they are not mature yet. Even videos in Quicktime are noticeably choppy. I have tried installing Tiger and the problems are gone, everything is smooth like it should be. I then did a clean re-install of Leopard and choppiness resumed.
Can anyone shed some light on this issue? I've been reading similar reports from others across the web and all seem to point to Nvidia driver issues that could be resolved in 10.5.2. Thanks.

I have the same problem but with my dock. For example the right side of the divider if I have a couple of windows minimized ( safari, finder) and drag a file ( text, .jpg , etc) and move it around the minimized windows move in a very jerky fashion ( to allow space for the file). I had at first just blamed 10.5 because the dock is more fancy then the tiger one, but my girlfriend owns a black macbook and her dock is about 5 x more fluid then mine ( never jerky ). I don't understand how this is possible when my macbook pro have a much better graphics card? I have deleted the plist, downloaded programs to set the dock to default settings. All with no luck.. I really hope 10.5.3 fixes this problem. I hope I have explained my situation properly . Any advice would be nice. I really don't want to have to do a erase and install!!
    Thanks

  • Quicktime and Canon 7D

I am a videographer. Recently I bought a Canon 7D. I love the quality, but am now having trouble getting completed video to clients. Most of my clients need the quicktime files of their video for a website. In the past I had no problem just putting the file on a data disc for them. With the 7D, the quicktime files burn choppy to disc. I have tried exporting in a variety of ways, but nothing helps. I have had my optical drive replaced recently.
If data discs are not a good way to transfer the video files, can someone tell me what is? I am at a loss about how I can get the files out. Thanks for your help!

Data disks are just fine (as long as you have plenty of backups and replace and test them often).
The trouble you're having is trying to read (play) the files directly from the media. The data rate of the file exceeds the data rate supported by the media storage so they can't playback properly.
    Solution:
Copy the data from the media to the viewing computer and play it back from a modern hard drive.

  • Sound issues in different applications

I'm having trouble with sound. I've got a iMac G5 17" 1.8ghz, and recently the sound has stopped working correctly in all applications. The biggest problem is Shockwave Flash, in which I get no sound at all. Also have had times when playing avi files in Mplayer or Quicktime would have choppy audio and overall slow playback, where before both would play fine in either program. Tonight Quicktime is okay but Mplayer is still slow. I think these problems started after upgrading to the most recent iTunes. I also upgraded my RAM recently to 1.256gb, but the problems started well after the upgrade. Any ideas??

  • Converting MP4 video to download and play on ipad Air

I have a few MP4 videos that I want to download to my ipad Air and show as my video portfolio.
I have researched this and there are so many answers but none seem to work. (tried like 4 of them already and still choppy video!)
I can't seem to find the right format to convert the videos so they work!
My import settings on itunes are : AAC Encoder: iTunesPlus (128kbps (mono)/256kbps (stereo), 44.100 Khz VBR optimized for MMX/SSE2)
I have VLC to convert the videos to m4v format but when I load them into itunes and then into my ipad, they show but the playback is choppy and no audio.
If anyone out there can give me the right formula to use in my VLC converter I would appreciate it:
    Encapsulation- MP4/MOV
    Video-
    Codec: H.264
    Bitrate: ?
    Frame Rate: ?
    Resolution: Width: 1280 or 720?
    Height: ?
    Audio-
Codec: MPEG 4 Audio (AAC)? or  MPEG Audio?
    Bitrate: 128?
    Channels: 2?
    Samplerate: 44100 or 48000?

I am having the same issue using VLC 2.1.3 - video conversion from mpg to mp4 won't play in Quicktime and are choppy when played back on my iPad Air. I don't use iTunes to upload but access them directly with FileBrowser App.

  • AME H.264 oddity

I've got some 1280x720 H.264 clips (progressive) from AME. They play choppy with Quicktime. Real choppy with DivX player. But play perfectly with my little AVS Media Player. It's not a problem, just odd.

I've some files that play miserably with my preferred KM Player.  They play OK with Windows Media Player (ugh!), and perfectly with VLC.
    Go figure.

  • How to Stop Lagging? at 1/4 resolution paused and playback but still lags?

I've never had this problem before but iv been sent some movs as part of a editing job and i make new sequence clip from file in premiere pro cs5.5 and the sequence settings are AVCHD square pixel 25p 1280x720,Square Pixels, No Fields 48000Hz.
I have a MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM Startup Disk Macintosh HD. The movs play fine in quicktime but play choppy in pro as I say never had these problems with AVCHD before and have tried converting to H.264 and Prores then reimporting but still lags, My media scratch disks are in a folder in my documents as they always have been, if i partion a drive and make set my scratch disks to that partitioned drive, I haven't partitioned a drive before and will back up my work first to be safe but would that make a difference as I want to avoid doing that if possible as have all my work on my laptop so dont want to rush in to something and accidentily delete my work. Please help
I'm not looking for someone just to say buy a new computer or hard drive- that is not helpful as I have had no problems with AVCHD in the past on the same computer with the same software so i'm looking for reasons to improve playback other than chaging resolution

I'm currently editing with bigger AVCHD files in another project which play fine at full resolution.
I've just converted the movs into proxies, 640x480 jpeg2000 and made a sequence from clip settings in pro and it still plays stuttereing playing around 1 frame every 5 frames, in quicktime it plays fine, this is an exmaple of the file I'm using...
