  • I have quicktime player 10 installed on my mac and it is considered the (default) player.  How can I get my Quicktime 7 Pro as my default player?

I have quicktime player 10 installed on my mac and it is considered the (default) player.  How can I get my Quicktime 7 Pro as my default player?  When I downloaded video from my phone, I couldn't hear the sound because Quicktime player 10 automatically opened the file and there was no sound,  When I opened the file in quicktime 7 Pro, the audio was fine.  I would prefer to have all movie files open automatically using my Pro version.  Any suggestions?  When I trashed the QT player 10 and clicked on the .3g2 movie file, it didn't automatically open with QT 7 Pro.  Instead a window opened wanting to convert the file to Flash.  I don't want that to happen.

    Try This...
Highlight the file you want Quicktime 7 Pro to open -
Goto File > Get Info or (CMD I)
In the Get Info window, scroll down to "Open with:"
Select the player you want to open the music file.
Click the "Change All..." button if you want to
"Use this application to open all documents like this.”

  • ITunes and Quicktime WILL NOT install no matter what!

After downloading QuickTime with iTunes, I keep getting this error:
"An exception occurred while trying to run m"C\Widows\system32\shell32.dll,Cotrol_RunDLL "C\
    Windows\system32\QuickTime.cpl",QuickTime
iTunes won't install, QuickTime won't install, Customer support doesn't know what to tell me---
Has anyone else had this problem-- and better yes, does anyone know how to fix this? My laptop is about 6 months old, running Windows XP Media Edition. (Big sigh)

    Deal Emalve,
Try change the path from C: to any other directory and then install..
    Hope that works out.

  • Quicktime will not install on my PC - also stopping iTunes from working

    Quicktime and iTunes will not install on my Vista SP 1 PC, Whenever I try to install either I get the following error message;
Quicktime - "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
iTunes - "The installation of Quicktime did not complete successfully. iTunes requires Quicktime."
From my iTunes error message I hope that by correcting the Quicktime error the iTunes should in turn be fixed.
I am using the latest installers for each and I can't understand why this is happening,
I have tried completely removing my old version of Quicktime and tried to copy my other PC's Quicktime folder into this one however that has not worked. I have also tried using the latest installers multiple times however I always get the same error message.
Please help me fix this error where Quicktime can't install,
    Thanks
    James

Says windows install package does not operate yet I can install other programs.
What's the precise text of the message, please? (There's a few different ones I can think of that you might be getting.)

  • "Quicktime is not installed or is too old of a version (39::0)" error when trying to open CS 6 psd f

I am editing some Sony EXCAM footage and decided to apply a Photoshop CS 6 filter to a potential background plate for a green screen shot. The EXCAM footage (HD, 1920x1080, 24p) plays fine in Quicktime player and plays inside Photoshop as well once imported. But after applying the filter -- which also plays properly in Photoshop -- and saving the composition as a psd file, I then try to open the psd file in After Effects, I get an error message that says "Quicktime is not installed or is too old of a version (39::0)." I have considered rendering the Photoshop comp as video, but I notice that unless I want an image sequence (which I don't) my export options are limited to a couple of animation flavors or jpeg 2000. I see no place in the Photoshop render dialogue box to access Quicktime settings and choose another codec. (An Apple Pro Res proxy might work just fine, for example.) So I'm making this a Photoshop question because I think there's something about Photoshop that is making the file unrecognizable to After Effects. After Effects does import a single frame of the image with the filter applied. (Yes, I am converting the video to a smart object before applying the filter.) Any thoughts?

Hi hertz. I was informed by Todd Koprivka (pardon if I got the last name wrong) of Adobe that owing to different speeds of development, some interactions between Photoshop and After Effects are not working as they once did. One of the programs has to catch up to the other. So, no, you can't open a video saved as a psd file in After Effects pending new developments. And while you can export your Photoshop video, it doesn't seem you have access to all your system installed codecs. I can't remember what is available at the moment. I think animation and maybe photo jpeg -- don't quote me. But it does seem that until they get the programs back on the same page, you do have to use one of those export options and then import the result as footage into AE. (Please note that I am playing this back to you from memory and may not have the details quite right, but I think I'm telling you the gist. You could try tracking down Mr. Koprivka at Adobe and emailing him. He seems to be some sort of community liason for AE.) Sorry the news isn't better -- especially as you have updated all the software and the problem apparently hasn't been addressed. That's disappointing. The workaround I'm suggesting is time consuming and, of course, you are baking in your Photoshop work. But if that's OK and you have the time for the export, you can eventually get your stuff into After Effects.

  • After Effects CC: Quicktime is not installed on this system

Trying to find a solution for this weird message "Quicktime is not installed on this system" when starting After Effects CC on OSX 10.9.3 for days now, but nothing worked out so far. Read lots of threads to this topic and followed all the different kinds of instructions (like changing the firewall settings, deleting files from the preferences folder, reinstalling quicktime7, changing the default audio devices, deleting certain components, ...), but it seems hopeless. For some reason also Media Encoder CC doesn t start. Media Encoder CS6 works just perfect, like After Effects CS6 does too. Unfortunately I do need to use the mask tracker which forces me to work with CC.
Please help! What else can I do? Need to get After Effects going very urgently.
I m working on a MacBook Air 1.7 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8GB RAM.
Thanks a lot for any reply!!! Aloha!

Hi, original poster here. I did not realize this would generate more discussion so I never checked back. I still had my warranty, so I took it to the store and got it repaired. The original problem I had was a screen with this icon flashing when I attempted to boot it up:
When I took it to the store, they told me that my computer was unable to communicate with the hard drive. I had this same problem three times in two months where this screen reappeared. Each time I went back to the store and they said the cause was different, but they were all hardware issues that physically made it impossible to communicate with the hard drive. After the third time, they simply replaced my laptop and I haven't had the same problem.
So in short: The reason you can't reinstall or move anything when you encounter this screen appears to be because nothing can communicate with the hard drive in the first place. You can't reach the disk or anything on it. So I don't believe it's possible to do anything besides take it to a physical store and have it fixed.

  • Quicktime errors during install, uninstall, or run

Quicktime errors during install, uninstall, or run. No error code. It just says it encountered an error and must exit.

I located a previous response that satisfied my issue. Below is the process that allowed me to use quicktime.
The "fatal error" in this context has (recently) been indicating trouble with old, misplaced QuickTime componentry lurking about in your system.
(Whether or not the message is a symptom of that problem seems to depend on what version of old misplaced stuff is lurking and what version of QuickTime proper we're trying to install or uninstall ... but in recent times, there's been an uptick in fatal errors being caused by that.)
So let's try investigating that possibility first.
First we'll adjust some view settings on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in "My Computer" open Local Disk C: (or whichever drive your operating system is installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "System32" folder.
What files or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file or folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • QuickTime won't install/uninstall

At home I use a Mac as indicated.
At work, I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I've been trying to get the latest version of QuickTime to install. I get "A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed." First, this is not true, I have QuickTime 7.1. I cannot uninstall QuickTime because I seem to be missing the install package. I've now deleted all the QuickTime files and removed the entries from the Registry. However, somewhere the installer is still finding an installation of QuickTime. I have administrator rights. Does anyone have suggestions?

I ran the Microsoft Fix-It Tool located at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651, as referenced by Dianne 13, and it worked PERFECTLY!
An update to QuickTime would not install on my PC; I kept getting a message that it "ecountered an error". I tried installing the update manually; I was told a newer version was already installed, and the installation could not be completed. QuickTime wouldn't even open; I got the same message about a newer version, so I tried running the uninstaller, both from the Start Menu shortcut and from within Control Panel - neither worked. The uninstaller told me it encountered an error & couldn't continue.
I ran the Microsoft Fix-It tool that Dianne 13 posted the link to, and it uninstalled QuickTime without any problem whatsoever, and the new version of QuickTime was able to then install.

  • Unable to update QuickTime, won't install update, can't uninstall - HELP!

Firefox (20.0.1) say need to update QuickTime. Properties show current version 7.6.4. Update button takes to download 7.7.3. It downloads ok, but will not install, says newer version already installed. Didn't find newer update than 7.7.3. Tried to uninstall QuickTime, says have more current version, need uninstall newer first. Tried Windows Vista help, looked through Community questions, still unable to find resolution. Supposed newer version not show in Programs, only updates can find are Windows. Not tech savvy enough to go further without guidance. If no fix available, suggestion for alternate program that does same job would be very welcome!

  • After Effects CS5 Mac says "Quicktime is not installed on this system, some components...

the error message is "QuickTime is not installed on this system, some components will not work correctly."
And when I open After Effects CS5 on MacPro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 16GB of 1066 MHz DDR3 running 10.6.3, it is basically not functionaly, because it will not open any quicktime movies without an error message.
Quicktime is installed on this mac.
I have run permissions and run diskwarrior, and it has not solved this problem.
    Any ideas?

There are a few things that cause After Effects to report that QuickTime is not installed.
One  is the obvious one: If  QuickTime 7.x is not installed, After Effects will report that QuickTime  is not installed.
The next most common reason is  quite different: The TCP communication with the QuickTime server is  blocked, so After Effects thinks that QuickTime isn't there at all. The  fix for this to remove the blockage in communication. Sometimes the  blockage is because of an aggressive firewall program, which sees the  TCP communication and stops it. If this is the case, then you can either  turn the firewall software off or specifically allow the QT32 Server  component to communicate; instructions for letting a specific process  communicate are different for each firewall program, so you'll have to  look in the documentation for your security software for information  about doing that. Here's a document with some more information about  this general issue, though it refers to a more serious failure when the  blockage happens at a different step in the After Effects startup  process: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/857/cpsid_85711.html
Another  reason is that QuickTime can fail to initialize fully because it gets  stuck loading a badly written importer component. If you have any AVI  importers/codecs on your Mac, this could be the issue. Here's a message  that goes into some detail about that: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2808379#2808379

  • Error on export : Quicktime not available. Please make sure Quicktime is properly installed.

I am getting an error when I try to export a .move Quicktime file. I have been able to successfully export movies in the past, however, I can no longer do this.I tried reinstalling and updating CS4 and Quicktime, but no luck.
I go File > Export > Quicktime, and get the following error:

  • The photoshop library operation failed because quicktime is not installed on this computer

I'm getting this when importing a Photoshop Timeline Animation into After Effects.
"The photoshop library operation failed because quicktime is not installed on this computer"
I have all updates to date.
    Any clues?

After Effects CC (12.x) does not import animation/video layers in PSD files. You should render and export your animation from Photoshop as a movie file and import that into After Effects.
