Quicktime alternative screwed up apple quicktime & itunes

i installed quicktime alternative to try it out. big mistake!
no quicktime files would play. period. within firefox or ie or even from the harddrive. (actually, i could right click a file and open with vlc, but that's a pain to do every time)
i uninstalled qt alternative and now my quicktime/itunes problem starts!
i still couldn't play qt video and now itunes doesn't start up either. says it needs quicktime blah blah. i never uninstalled apple quicktime
so logically i figure qt alternative uninstalled a normal quicktime component
i reinstalled the quicktime/itunes package. itunes installs fine then on to quicktime where the installation stops shortly after clicking Agree to the EULA
where i get an ERROR and Installation could not be completed.
also tried uninstalling Apple quicktime but when I click on Uninstall I get the hour glass pointer for a few seconds then nothing happens.
also tried installing from the quicktime stand alone installer
Did a search and found someone with a similar problem but no remedy.
No qt=no itunes=NO IPOD!
Please Help!
Windows 2000

okay, I tried quite a few things and finally got quicktime and itunes working again. In case any one else encounters this problem here is what I did, at least the steps that fixed it.
1 re-install quicktime alternative.
2 re-install quicktime 7 from the qt7 standalone installer.
During the process I encountered several error messages saying install failed or fatal error. (Something about ActiveX Control missing and a failed dll.) DON'T click cancel, click OK through each error and the installer will resume after a brief pause. Quicktime installed successfully, iTunes also now starts up so I'm happy.
I'm leaving qt alternative on the harddrive for now though I'd like to remove it I'm worried the uninstall will corrupt quicktime again. But if anyone has a surefire way of removing it without disrupting apple's qt I'd like to know.

Hello, can't get my mac to upgrade to latest versions of quicktime, itunes or any other os

The latest OS that you can run is 10.5.8. That is as far as Power Mac machines can go.
The latest Quicktime, iTunes, etc., must be both OS X 10.5.8 AND Power Mac (PPC) compatible.
This is the last OS update for your machine:

iTunes 10.6.3 requires OS X 10.5.8 and is the last update for iTunes on a PPC machine:

  • Quicktime/iTunes prob

i've downloaded and installed itunes with quicktime for my iPod on WinXP. i've done this AGAIN because my quicktime icon in quiklaunch disappears. or rather becomes 'generic'. same in start/programs. like the target of the exe is missing. (thought it's not). reinstalled. no joy. can anyone help? launching quicktime also makes errors popup often. and quiktime crashes. can i do something to COMPLETELY uninstall/reinstall quicktime?
p.s. specifically pressing UPDATE makes quicktime crash.
p.p.s. my sys is a 2.4GHz core two duo DELL with 8800GTX video and 2Gb RAM (an ok sys and quicktime ran before quite well.)

i found how to fix this problem! listen:
i searched on the internet and found that the part of my problem that includes the crash on updating quicktime could be solved by checking the Safe Mode GDI only box in preferences - quicktime preferences. so i took it one step further. seeing as this looks very much like a graphics issue (the crash on update and the icons' strange appearance and lack thereof) i thought of something.
I UNINSTALLED MY nVidia nTune program/control panel. after that i reinstalled quicktime/iTunes anyway (although i probably didn't need to) and everything fell into place!
since i have the 8800GTX video card i downloaded nTune but really it wasn't something i used - so why keep it? [though i don't use quicktime either, but it was nice to at least solve this issue.]

Open your QuickTime control panel (either via the Control panels, or by going "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences" in the Quicktime Player). In the Advanced tab, uncheck Enable Direct3D video acceleration:
... and click OK. Quit and restart the QuickTime Player prior to checking to see if the settings change has had any effect.

  • I need help with quicktime/itunes it wint run

Every SINGLE time I try to download itunes it says I need quick time. So i go back and try to download quicktime first and its telling me I cant because I need quicktime. I try to download quicktime& itunes at the same time but it still shows that i need quick time and i cant complete the download. In addition when its installing i gets to removing some kind of quicktime files under status and thats when it says it failed.
    and i tried doing this....
Quicktime has fragmented itself and wont work it happens to me a lot!
Here are the steps to fixing your Quicktime..
    1) restart your computer
    2) when the computer boots press the f12 key
    3) there will be a few options choose "safe mode" and press enter
    4) now it'll go on to your desktop SAFE MODE IS VERY RISKY it may look like your cpu's graphics have changed but it's not
5)go to "my computer" and go to "program files"
6)scroll down to the quicktime folder and delete from your computer that way. (dont forget to empty your recycle bin before you restart)
7)restart the computer and reinstall Quicktime
There you have it you fixed quicktime!
But that didnt work either so now im still stuck, ive tried over and over to delete it out of my computer(the addd and remove programs thing) but every thime i did that and reinstalled it then tried to use it the program gave me an error report! You know the kind that says the whole "send or "don't send" thing. Big problem please help!

www.pabsungenis.livejournal.com/94683.html Use it and follow EACH DIRECTION. it should work.

  • Having a problem installing Quicktime/itunes software can't control where it's going to download

so i'm trying to load quicktime/itunes software on my Win7 laptop. had it on the same laptop but with vista. i can not control where the software is being downloaded too. Trying to send to my external drive labeled originally F: somehow it got changed to I:. The package doesn't recognize the label F: and says there's not enough space. I have 410gbs free! The package doesn't give me the option to change where i want to send it. Can't DL bonjour for the same reason. Safari 5 wasn't a problem. So what's the verdict, y'all? I can't update my itouch, which i'm sure sorely needs it.
    Thanks in advance
    Nagoosh

ok so after days of trying I finally got it to work...
    here's what I did.
    1. Uninstall old versions of iTunes. Reboot.
    2. Uninstall old versions of Quicktime. Reboot.
    3. go in and remove any left over traces of QT or iTunes from hard drive
    4. Remove temp files related to itunes or quicktime. Reboot.
    5. Uninstall audio driver for audigy 2 (WDM)
    6. Install new version of iTunes
    7. reinstall drivers for audio
    8. reboot
    9. check audio drivers (for some reasons even though I reinstalled it didn't come back as the right one after the restart and was listed as disabled) update the driver.
    10. Reboot again
    11. now things should work again.
2 quick notes... Make sure to save a backup copy of your itunes library.itl and your itunes music library.xml so you can system restore back and have the old version work, just in case.
now I Can't be sure... but I assume something like step 9 was happening and not showing up that way in my drivers... although that doesn't explain why uninstalling and fresh installing after installation didn't fix it earlier. but it works now and I'm thrilled.

  • After Apple update Itunes is gone & cannot be re-installed

I ran Apple Update when it popped up saying there was a new Itunes and Quicktime so I said install. Halfway through it asked me for my Itunessetup.msi so I pointed to it in the installer temp directory and it says it is not valid MSI file. I can do nothing but cancel as I cannot use an older MSI so my PC is screwed.
I tried using system restore even and that does not work.
Basically Apple Update has made my system useless for my Ipod unless I want to do a complete re-load of windows. I even did full uninstall of ALL apple software, killed ALL registry keys for APPLE and Itunes, restarted and still Itunes will not install.
Anyone have a fix or work around without complete Windows reload????

    Hi Jes,
I appreciate your kind concern for me and my situation. Please note that I did these steps on our TEST environment. This is NOT the system experiencing the originally reported problem. It is not the system where I have pages I need to retrieve. We have a series of nearly identical environments used for different purposes in our application development /qa/ production life cycle. TEST is a pair of smaller boxes we use for trying out new versions, applying patches, proving stuff to support etc.
My point is that there seems to be a reproducable issue here when re-installing 2.0 after 3.0 has been installed. A clean 3.0 unistall ON A FULLY FUNCTIONAL 3.0 system, followed by a clean 2.0 install should not yeild a flows object that cannot be recompiled.
My real hope is the someone might be able find me an unwrapped copy of WWV_FLOW_GEN_API2. With that I could see the compilation error and perhaps fix the problem.

  • My 4th Generation 80GB iPod is alternating between the Apple logo & the low battery screen

My 4th Generation 80GB iPod isn't opening iTunes or otherwise being recognized when I connect it to my computer. Instead, it keeps alternating between the Apple logo & the "Please wait, very low battery" screen, even though I just charged it yesterday.
Any advice would be deeply appreciated, thanks!

Shortly after this message was posted, this mysterious, annoying and quite upsetting issue occurred yet again.  (The issue originally happened when I tried to plug my iPod into my Windows 7 notebook via the USB cord that came with the device.)
So I tried plugging it into the gadget for my car's cigarette lighter, therefore using a different cord. Sadly, the Apple logo and "very low battery" message reappeared and kept alternating. Same thing when I plugged in my headphones.
But I wasn't going to let that deter me from trying again. The next stop consisted of plugging it into someone else's MacBook Pro. Wouldn't you know, suddenly my iPod was functioning again! The screen lit up with that lovely "Do not disconnect" message and iTunes launched. (Maybe it needed some Apple-on-Apple love?)  Furthermore, my iPod now works with my Windows notebook again — along with all the other methods mentioned in this post.
In conclusion, should you find yourself in the same predicament, try hooking it up to a Mac. I don't know how or why, but that's what worked for me.
    Cheers,
    echo

  • When i open an mp3 file from a source other than apple, does itunes create it's own file and can I then delete the original mp3?

when I open a music file from a source other than apple, does itunes create it's own file and can I then delete the original mp3?

If you use iTunes' default settings then when you add a file to iTunes it places a copy of the file in the iTunes media folder and it leaves the original in place.  The exception is when you drag it to the Automatically Add To iTunes folder.
It does not convert the file.  You can delete the original if you wish.

  • Problem with itunes update.  I am running OSX v 10.4.11 and can't get itunes to update.  I had itunes 9.1.1 and when I tried ask it to update it said there was no update. sent old itunes to trash and now apple site itunes download is not working.  help...

From Apple website when I go to itunes update to 10.3 I am not seeing the left column to download itunes 10.3.  Does anyone else have this problem?  I tried yesterday as well.  Today, I threw my itunes 9.1.1 in the trash and emptied it... and then rebooted.  What am I doing wrong?

What operating system are you running?  I doubt it's an iPhone OS on a Mac Mini, but if you meant to choose 10.4 then you're out of luck.  http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/  At the bottom of the left hand column on this page, you'll see it requires OS X 10.5 or higher.

  • HT201493 I have 2 iphones on the same apple id/itunes account, how do I give them different IDs?

I have 2 iphones (mine & my wife's) on the same apple id/itunes account, how do I give them different IDs?

I am having the same issue.
There is no possible way Apple didn't think this the whole way thru!
Why in the world would I want to create an new Apple ID for everyone in my family & over complicate things?!?  "Face Time" and "Messages" can tie several devices to on Apple ID driven by contact email or phone number.  I am hard pressed to believe that Find my Friends can't be set up in a similar format.
Please help because this is frustrating me to the point of smashing an iPhone or 2!!

  • Smart family iCloud/apple id/iTunes/Apps Store setup?

Currently, we have the following setup:
Apple ID 1: (gen.appleid), used for:
Mac App Store for all compurers (desktops & laptops)
iOS App Store purchasing on Mom & Dad accounts on both Macs and their iOS devices
    Apple Developer / Apple Seed
iTunes purchases on central OS X Server Computer including Match. This central server runsalways and can be accesses on all iOS devices for Remote, and from AppleTV. Mom and Dad thus have a full copy of their Music library on each account on each desktop
iTunes purchases on Mom & Dad OS X accounts on both Macs and their iOS devices.
Used as general Apple ID by Dad (e.g. find my iPhone etc)
    Used for Home Sharing
Apple ID 2: (mom.appleid), used for:
    Nothing specific yet
Apple ID 3: (dad.appleid), used for:
Nothing specific yet, an not even sure it exists already
Apple ID 3: (child1.appleid), used for:
iOS App Store purchases of child 1, has no credit card attached but gets money on it via gifts
iTunes Music / Video purchases of child 1
Apple ID 4: (child4.appleid), used for:
iOS App Store purchases of child 2, has no credit card attached but gets money on it via gifts
iTunes Music / Video purchases of child 2 (each child has his/her separate iTunes Library with apps & music and own iOS Device(s)
All iOS devices are synced with their owner's OSX account.
User accounts are accounts with Portable  Home Directories so everybody can log in on any deskotp/laptop at home and away and get his/her own home directory there. Very nice, even if PHD syncing is not extremely robust.
This is a bit of a mess.
Mom & Dads photo's are separated, but they should be shared. There are two cameras, one used by Mom, and one by Dad and the photo's are in each account and sharing is a pain (and duplicates a lot)
Mom & Dad keep separate full copies of the large iTunes database. These are synched/matched via the gen.appleid account, but it takes up a lot of space. The large iTunes Library has one copy on the central server and two on each desktop.
All the other iCloud things are not used (e.g. calendar syncing etc.)
What is a good setup and how can I get their from this setup?

I assume you are all using one ID at the moment ([email protected]) for iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime and iTunes.
If your husband created his own ID ([email protected]) and your daughter her own ([email protected]), then you could do the following.
iCloud. Each of you use your own address, this keeps your contacts, calendars, photos, documents etc seperate, it also gives you all your own 5GB of cloud space for this data and back ups of your devices.
iMessage. If you want to see your daughters messages, then I'd suggest you and your daughter logs in with [email protected] and your husband with [email protected]
FaceTime. You can't really monitor FaceTime by sharing an ID, so I'd suggest you all log in to FaceTime with your own ID's.
iTunes & App Stores. I'd suggest you all use [email protected], that way you all have use of the existing purchases of apps, music, books etc.
In order to share your calendars, there are two ways.
    1. You (or/and vice versa) could use the share feature in the calendar app (Tap calendars at the bottom of the calendar screen, then tap the i next to the calendar you want to share and add your husband to the shared section on the next page).
    2. You (or/and vice versa) can add [email protected] to your device as a secondary iCloud account (settings > mail, contacts, calendars), this allows you to share mail, calendars, contacts, reminders and notes, which you can enable individually as you wish.
