QuickTime always in crash!!!

Hi all,
recently QuickTime crashes ever, does not allow me to see anything, I know that there is VLC, but I use it anyway! Appears the report of the crash system that truly can not understand! Maybe I touched or moved anything that should not be done! As part of the operating system can't download it separately so I wonder if you could install it again from Recovery System!

Yes, that would work if the Pack you have offers that functionality.
Another way to go might be to use one of the varieties of Packs which don't include QT codec or componentry. The ACE pack hasn't been updated for a while, but the K-Lite people regularly update their packs, and they don't include the QuickTime codecs/componentry anymore.
Judging from the latest changelog i found for it, any version of the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack higher than 2.2.0 doesn't have the "QuickTime" componentry that causes these issues when upgrading QuickTime versions. So it might be worth checking that pack out instead. See:

Export to Quicktime movie continued crashes. HELP

I have sequence, it renders no problem. Whenever I go to export to Quicktime movie it crashes. I have gone and deleted all files associated with it and redone the sequence from scratch, and I keep getting the same results. Crash while exporting. I am working in DV, so all I do at export is export to Quicktime movie, which means it should be exporting as a DV movie. I am not sure what is wrong please help.

I did try burning the 18.05GB file on i-DVD but even with the auto compression of i-DVD it only managed to compress it down to 5.4GB - too large for my 4.7GB DVD.
The only reason I need to burn it so my friend can author it is that he's a little too fussy and wants to author it on Adobe Encore.
I managed to get a firewire drive - but the blooming PC didnt accept it as it was Mac formated!
I just exported the original file as a QT movie, reducing sound quality, frame rate etc but it still comes out at 17.5GB - still to large for i-DVD (and thats with i-DVD's compression, which comes in at approx 5GB!)
I really really blame myself for this as I never really looked into anything more than the creative aspect of FCP. But I've started now.

Launching Quicktime always opens multiple files

After upgrading to Lion, Quicktime always re-opens all of the movies I've opened in previous sessions. For instance, if Quicktime has already opened 15 movies, it will re-open those 15 plus the new one. The only way I've found to open a single file when launching QT is to manually close each file I've opened and clear the 'Open Recent' list before quitting the porevious QT session. If the 'Open Recent' list is empty upon launch, it doesn't open the previous movies. It is happening with every file type, including WMV via flip4mac. And it's happening on all three of my Macs !!! I did uninstall flip4mac and SliverLight but QT still behaves this way. Seems to be a problem with QT itself. QT isnlt having problems playing the files, though. It's working fine in that regard, including playing WMV files via flip4mac (which I reinstalled). VLC and other media players still open files at they should. I'm quite surprised to not see any discussion on this anywhere so maybe it's a problem unique to my Macs. Anyone have any ideas? What am I missing here? Thanks, folks.

There may or may not be. If there is, I have yet to find it. (I'm still in the "familiarization" stage.) If there isn't, it would make a good enhancement request, especially if it could be turned off/on by application.
I often open several files, then quit the app rather than closing each individual file. This is counter-productive.
I tend to close players after use, so this doesn't really bother me. (On the other hand, I make a lot "what if" saves and am not really fornd of the idea of a new "auto-save" feature confusing me between my project saves and its saves.)

SSL and Quicktime Player: QT crashes if it opens a web video via https

Hello,
it was running some test-videos, I think, some weeks ago very well - as I can remember. After some days quicktime client starts crashing when it opens a .mp4 file from a https: connection. Thers a message concerning the certificate from quicktime then it crashes.
It crashes also on another computer. Quicktime plays the same file via a http connection (that is not secured via ssl) very well.
Safari is playing the https(ssl)-file with quicktime very well.
If Safari runs the ssl video and finally completed do load the full video I can copy the https:-URL to Quicktime player - and it plays the video very well.
Via quicktime streaming server the .mp4 runs too - but its not secured - I think
What can I do? Thank you for any suggestion.

Safari is always on "crash protection"

last up date today and since safari doesn't work..always on "crash protection"

My issue was with a Safari extension called Glim. I booted to safe mode, turned off extensions and plug-ins and then downloaded the uninstaller from Glim. I ran the uninstaller and rebooted.
It now works fine.
Does the Crash Protection box give you any indication of what may be causing the issue? I have no idea what Glim is or how it got onto my computer!

Let me add some news.
QuicktimePlayer 7.6 even crashes when you try to feed it with movies compressed with Handbrake and multi audio tracks. But this has to do with HB generating tracks with "unknown" language.
You could download "Subler" which lets you edit mp4 files. Change the language to English for example and save file optimized.
Than open in QT and make the edits audio assignment described here:

That is all very complicated and time consuming.
I'm sure the problem for Apple is to make 5.1 passthrough and normal stereo system sounds work at the same time. You can see how problematic this is when you change the volume in QT or iTunes when playback a 5.1 audio file. It always has to be full up for passthrough.
If you chose passthrough in any App you'll loose sound output for all other apps.
That's why it is offered in ATV. But with a normal mac, you want a lot of different Apps to work at the same time, even if you have QT open and watch a movie with 5.1.
Apps like Plex don't have to deal with this. They kind of "Highjack" the whole system for their tasks.
I'm very confident that Apple handles all these problems with a new Quicktime in SnowLeopard.

Everytime I attempt to open QuickTime Preferences, it crashes

I have installed Tiger and updated FCP to FCP 5.
I was told that once I updated the FCP, that the QT Pro would work properly. Well, it still does not work properly. And everytime I attempt to open the QT system preference, it crashes and gives this error: "The application System Preferences quite unexpectedly".

I have installed Tiger and updated FCP to FCP 5.
I was told that once I updated the FCP, that the QT Pro would work properly. Well, it still does not work properly. And everytime I attempt to open the QT system preference, it crashes and gives this error: "The application System Preferences quite unexpectedly".

Every time I try watch a quicktime video in any browser, it says that Quicktime plugin has crashed?

It's been happening for quite some time, even before I upgraded to Lion.
I have quicktime pro purchased, and I tried removing unnessary plugins, but it happens across chrome/safari/firefox.
"The following plug-in has crashed: QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.1" is the message I get, without an option to send error report.

Quicktime 7.3 crashing Final Cut Express capturing..how do i rollback 7.2

So After hours of FCE HD crashing after a few minutes into capturing video I finally took to the internet. It seems that the quicktime 7.3 update is to blame so.....how do I remove 7.3 and install 7.2, which it sounds might not even be possible or easily backup everything and reinstall. I have a few thousand pictures and mp3's and I have never backed up my mac so details are important. Any thoughts, suggestions or help would be great. Thanks.

I too recently stumbled-upon this issue. Using FCP 4.5.1 on G4 Quicksilver running OS X 10.4.11. I recently installed iLife 08 and all the associated 'Software Updates' with the QT 7.3 update. Now, I can no no longer capture video longer then 5-10 minutes. After which time the tape deck continues to play, but the capture window displays a spinning beach ball and the machine hangs up. Creating huge files that play for 5-10 minutes and then display a long still frame/garbage at the end.
I've seen others with similar problems all pointing to the iLife 08 and QT 7.3 as the source of this problem. I've got all of same updates/software installed on Mac Pro Quad, where I'm running FCP 5.1.4 and this is NOT an issue. So it seems it's G4/FCP 4 issue, and is brought on by installing iLife 08 and the recent bunch of associated software updates including Quicktime 7.3 as far as I can tell.
As our business is video, and we have a project in the G4 that's in-progress, re-installing the OS and or FCP is not an option. I'd like it very much if I could "patch" or 'roll-back' to QT 7.2. What concerns me, is that it appears there are two alternatives.
(1) Backup my data and wipe the system drive and reinstall Tiger from my 4.6 install disk, and then reinstall all my applications and download a boatload of patches to bring everything back to just prior to iLife 08 and QT 7.3.
(2) Attempt to uninstall FCP, iLife08, and Quicktime 7.3 and hope I can 'clean-up" my system by installing FCP 4.5, and Quicktime 7.2 again, and patching it to back to prior to this mess.
Neither of these alternatives are very desirable, and feel pretty iffy at best. Based on my experience with iLife 08 and the spate of 'Software updates" that hit recently, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping the QT team gives us a way to 'roll back' or patch older FCP installations.

Quicktime 7 pro crashes on launch

I've got Quicktime Pro installed on a Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7.3 .
My problem is that Quicktime Pro has started to crash immediately on launching - the title appears in the menu bar for a second and then disappears, and if I try to open a .mov file for instance, (QT Pro is the default player) nothing happens.
I've tried trashing prefs, trashing and re-installing the app, cleaned the caches, repaired permissions, all many times but I can't find the answer.
Anyone got any ideas?

Quicktime/FinalCutPro7/iMovie11 Crash

Hey Guys,
So this must be a Quicktime 7 related bug since the update to 10.6.6.
I can't launch Quicktime 7 or anything that uses Quicktime 7. I have iMovie 09 and iMovie 11 and neither will launch. FCP 7.0.3 won't launch.
Well to be accurate, they launch, then crash immediately with the error:
*Job appears to have crashed: Bus error.*
I've re-installed Quicktime 7 from the 10.6 install disk, to no avail.
Any ideas? I'm going to re-install Final Cut Studio to see if that fixes things.

Yes, that would work if the Pack you have offers that functionality.
Another way to go might be to use one of the varieties of Packs which don't include QT codec or componentry. The ACE pack hasn't been updated for a while, but the K-Lite people regularly update their packs, and they don't include the QuickTime codecs/componentry anymore.
Judging from the latest changelog i found for it, any version of the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack higher than 2.2.0 doesn't have the "QuickTime" componentry that causes these issues when upgrading QuickTime versions. So it might be worth checking that pack out instead. See:

Quicktime .mov files crash multiple applications.

I've been having issues for some time now with quicktime .mov files hard crashing multiple applications. Basically quicktime movies crash Safari and iWeb/iLife when I try and view them. Quicktime player itself quits occasionally, or just doesnt even play the movie. iWeb will crash as well consistently. Bad thing is, that it's a hard crash for me, and there is never even a box stating that it crashed. So I get no opportunity to send a bug report. The applications just quits instantly. nothing in the crash report either. all other movie formats work fine, ie. mpg, avi, wmv.
Firefox can view the same movies fine for some reason.
I can even make a new site in iWeb, add one movie page, drop a movie in, go away from that page creation, then go back to it and the app will crash, with no dialogue boxes whatsoever.
I've tried tossing all quicktime prefs, going back to QT 7.01 then back up to 7.04, no help. My powerbook works fine, and it's on the same level, all OS updates like my G5. If I bring the iWeb file over to the G5, from the powerbook, that I was having no problem editing on the powerbook, it will crash iWeb immediately upon viewing a page with the movie in it.
I'm really close to re-installing teh OS completely, but hoping we find a solutin before then.
I do have a retail Mac Edition Radeon 9800 Pro in this machine, could be issues, but I have found no articles stating such. I also have flip4mac installed. I updated it to the latest, and I do not have any .avi files in my movies folder, so it shoudn't be an issue. This all started happenning around the install of iLife '06 when I first repeatedly noticed it on the movie pages in iWeb. It might have happened earlier, but I wrote it off. It was just really annoying when trying to make iWeb pages with movies.

1] Try it with another user account (make one if you need to in Apple menu > System Preferences > Accounts)
2] If its only happening in your account:
Inside your hard drive, in the Users folder should be your user home folder (with your account name.) Within that folder is a folder called Library... open that and look for a QuickTime folder within, pull that QuickTime folder out to the Desktop. Do the same for Internet Plug-ins and throw away the ~/Library/Caches/QuickTime folder too. Then, open Preferences and pull out com.apple.quicktime... (all of them) and the QuickTime Preferences file.
Then log out (Apple menu) and back in (or restart) and try again.
3] If its happening for all users then try:
Pull the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plist to the desktop (Your QuickTime Pro registration is in that file so don't throw it away, just move it out, restart and try again.)
4] If there are still problems, try repairing your disk either with the OS X install disc (run Disk Utility from the menu bar) or by rebooting in Singel-User-Mode and running fsck. Then repair permissions with Disk Utility.
Let us know if you still have trouble.

Quicktime and all quicktime-using applications crash on startup

A while ago my computer crashed and wouldn't start up. We ran the disk utility and fixed the permissions and ran disk warrior, and in the end we eventually got it to work by installing MacOS onto the harddrive again (so basically it's installed twice).
Ever since then, however, quicktime crashes whenever I try to start it up. In fact, any application that uses quicktime, such as iTunes, will crash and automatically quit out when it tries to play a video. Even the Finder will crash whenever it tries to display a preview of a movie.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I've tried deleting the quicktime preferences and reinstalling to no avail.

After you re-installed the OS, did you install any third programs or components/plug-ins?

QuickTime Pro keeps crashing when I open "Show Movie Properties"

I keep getting the "QuickTime Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." crash when I try and do "Show Movie Properties" on .MOV files.
The error signature is:

I'm running the latest QuickTimePro (7.6.5) on WinXP SP3

in fact it's one of the few bits of Quick Time that seems stable on my PC!
Hmmmmm ... your symptoms aren't typical for what I'm about to check on. But I think we ought to check to see if any other application has sprayed old QuickTime componentry into unorthodox places on the PC. (That's one possible cause of a BEX.)
(1) Go Start > My Computer.
(2) From the Tools menu, select Folder Options ...
(3) Click the View tab.
(4) Make sure Show hidden files and folders is selected and Hide extensions for known filetypes is unchecked.
(5) Click OK.
Now head down into your C:\Windows\system32\ directory. What files and folders with QuickTime in the file/folder-name can you see in there?
(In a standard QuickTime installation, you should see precisely two files, QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx, and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)
