Quicktime and Itunes is removed during registration

I have tried numerous options, as many I I am frustrated with my new toy. I love using my Ipod, but after I wiped my hard drive clean and installed WXP I have not been able to install iTunes. Everything works well until the install wizard registers the program. At that time the newly created shortcut is deleted and the program is not there. Do you have a solution?

Jacob,
What is the exact error message that you're getting from the installer? A screen shot couldn't hurt, because that error message doesn't ring a bell.
Let's get an installation log on the problem and send it to the Apple engineers.
1. Turning on some advanced logging by creating a new file in your "Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp" folder with the name "QTInstallerLauncher.log". You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find this folder. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.)
2. Start menu -> Run... In the text field of the dialog that comes up, type in "cmd" and hit return.
3. In the command prompt dialog that comes up, find the iTunesSetup.exe installer on your desktop and drag it to this window. Then on the same line type in a space and then the following:
/Verbose"c:\log.txt" /V"ENABLE_QTLOGGING=TRUE"
There is no space between the e in Verbose and the double quote ("). There is no space between the /V and the double quote (").
4. Hit return. This will bring up the iTunes installer window and ask you if you want to do a repair install, say yes, work your way through it.
5. The installer will create a log file:
C:\log.txt
and a file called:
"Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\QTPluginInstaller_9999.log" (number may differ). You may have multiple files like this..... Send them all, or at least the most recent ones.
Find those files and send them to the apple moderator. Tell her Toonz sent you. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context.

  • Quicktime  and Itunes will not launch!

Both quicktime and itunes come up with errors whenever I try to lauch them. I have tried nearly EVERYTHING and they will not start! This is quicktime error-
Quicktime Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Error signature is BEX

Interesting. In that case, the errors are probably being caused by the absence of the two files I mentioned earlier. Haven't seen one of those for a while.
We'd better swap out your existing QuickTime. We'll take a few additional explicit precautions along the way, just in case.
First, download and save a fresh copy of the QuickTime installer (QuickTimeInstaller.exe) to your hard drive. (Don't run the install online, and don't start the install from the downloaded installer just yet. Use the download option that doesn't mention iTunes.)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Now head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel. Uninstall QuickTime.
Next we'll clear away any leftover QuickTime program files or folders.
In "My Computer" open "Local Disk C:" or whichever drive your program files are installed on.
    Open the "Program files" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Empty your recycle bin and restart the PC.
After the PC restarts, do not open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the reinstall by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
Did the QuickTime install seem to go through properly? If so, are iTunes and QuickTime launching for you now?

  • DEP error when opening quicktime and itunes

I've installed the latest version of both quicktime and itunes on my new laptop but neither of them open as they are prevented by DEP on windows vista, does anyone have any idea how to get around this or help me. It's fustrating as i can't update the music on my i-pod touch

DEP errors often seem to occur with incompatible codecs.
Go to your control panel (classic view) and try to start QUicktime Preferences. Post the error message *in full*. This can give a clue about codec issues.
Have you installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter, Mpcstar, (possibly starcodec pack, 3ivx)
    If so uninstall them.
Assuming this is a codec problem you need to remove then reinstall QUickitme after uninstalling the problem software.
Then download the version of Quickime without iTunes:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method for Quicktime in this article (just Quicktime):
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

@ a_brody > Yes. The machine was plugged into a power source. The disk promts you to do that and i recall aspect this form other installs. Thanks for the reminder tho! ( btw your second post is like greek to me man!)
@ Kuncklesmac > You're right about Snow Leopard being an upgrade from Leopard. I'm aware of this. And yes previously i've been told by Apple that I needed the Box Set (not the family pack.  i am using the family pack for OS Snow Leopard) to upgrade my 10.4.11 mac - they never mentioned adding ram but i figured that out on my own and an apple specialist recommended it when i purchased Snow Leopard and confirmed that I coul duse the Snow Leopard to upgarde from Tiger (10.4.11). I've also read extensively (as i said above) that it isn't necessary (always) to buy the box set. Several 10.4.11 users report having upgraded using the Snow Leopard upgrade disk only (not the Box Set) without trouble on intel macs (also see the apple link i posted). So i'm just ondering how they did it and i cannot.

  • Quicktime and itunes wont install. I have never had quicktime installed on my computer before

I recently bought an ipod touch 4g and realized that I needed itunes to activate it. After downloading itunes it wouldn't install, no error messages or anything, when I click on the installer it just doesn't do anything.
After downloading several versions of itunes (older versions) I finally found one that started to install. Then it told me that I need Quicktime on my computer in order for it to install. So I downloaded the latest version of quicktime and had the same problem, when I click on the installer, nothing happens. I tried downloading older versions of quicktime but still had the same problem.
I have never had quicktime or itunes installed on this computer before, so I know that it isn't an older version of the program hidden in my computer that is preventing the installation from happening.
My computer is running on Windows 7. I know that there wasn't a problem with downloading the software, the files weren't corrupted or anything. There are no error messages, the software doesn't even partially install. When I click on the installer, nothing happens. I have tried running the programs as an administrator and that doesn't change anything.
I have tried so many different things, but can't remember everything that I tried. Yesterday I spent nearly 10 hours trying to sort this out because I was determined to get my ipod running. I only stopped when my internet credit ran out and today after buying some more, I am trying again. Please help.

I appreciate the quick response, thank you for that.
One thing I did try was windows cleanup utility and searched through the program files for all apple software, but had none. I even deleted the temp files on my computer, and on my internet browser, but nothing happened.
One thing that I didn't think of was deleting the installation files in my downloads folder, pretty silly of me but I didn't think it would make a difference. I also spent about 2-3gig on downloads yesterday and didn't want to delete the files but as a last resort I did and emptied my recycle bin, then downloaded a fresh copy of Quicktime and finally it installed!
Now I am in the process of downloading a fresh copy of iTunes, the download hasn't finished yet so I haven't had a chance to install it yet but I have a much better feeling about it this time after deleting all the old installation files from my downloads folder. If Quicktime worked after that, I am sure iTunes will.
I can't believe it was something so simple as deleting the installation files in my downloads folder and emptying the recycle bin. I had seriously gone through my entire computer looking for any little file that was related to Quicktime or iTunes. I didn't even think of the two most obvious places. I spent so much time and credit downloading multiple files and my computer even got a virus when trying to download a copy from an unauthorized source, I had no problem getting rid of the virus, but struggled with Quicktime and iTunes, that is why I got so frustrated! I feel like an idiot now :-P
Thank you for your help. I still havent installed iTunes yet, so fingers crossed. I think it will work now though.

  • Quicktime and iTunes "quit unexpectedly" when I try to open them

I'm getting an error message whenever I try to open either Quicktime or iTunes saying that the application quit unexpectedly. The error report (for both Quicktime and iTunes) says (amongst other things):
    Exception: EXCBADACCESS
    Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE
Thread 0 Crashed with PPC thread state 64
    Anyone any ideas? Thanks.

Please post the crash report here so we can view it and offer help.

  • Quicktime and itunes will not open error message

I think their is suppose to be two files (QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx) in the systems 32 folder. But there is a quick.ime also in the folder, do I delete it so that my quicktime and itunes work.

No, quick.ime is not part of Quicktime. Don't delete it.
If Quicktime will not open, then iTunes can't work.
Can you give the Quicktime error message in full, and also check in your Windows error logs or Problems & solutions to see if there is more information there.
You haven't given your Windows version which helps when troubleshooting.

  • Quicktime and iTunes are dead

I commited suicide, i guess, by creating a "custom" application folder, moving all system applications from their original location to another folder, named by me "aplications", and deleting the original empty aplication folder.
    Don't ask me why , i still don't get it ......:-(
Then my iTunes and Quicktime died, meaning when i launch themthey do nothing, for ages, untill i have to force quit 'em
So i returned all of the system applications back to its "original" folder, reinstalled quicktime and itunes but still no go.
I have installed like 10 non systen aplications after that, and i'm really out of time, do you think i'll have to reinstall the whole system again or there's a workaround to make QT and iTunes back?

If you deleted the "original empty application folder," how did you then return items to it? Did you create a new Applications folder yourself? Or what?
At the root level you should have something like the following:
    Applications
    Library
    System
    Users
The Applications folder in turn should contain all the iApps at its root level. Also when you do GetInfo it should have the following permissions:
    You can: Read & Write
    Owner: system (locked)
    Access: Read&Write
    Group: admin
    Access: R&W
    Others: Read only
If you now have a root level Applications folder (and it must be Applications, not applications) that you created it could be the permissions are messed up. You can check with GetInfo and see if they match the above. You can try setting them to that yourself. I would also strongly advise you to run Disk Utilities from the Utilities folder (incidently, what did you do with THAT folder in your arrangement frenzy?) and run Repair Permissions. That might get things working again. In future do not change things that the system has done unless you know precisely why it is set that way and what will happen if you alter it.

    Hi Mylenium:
Just as an additional info, when I stated "Apple Forum" I was referring to a suggestion made and publish there by one of the Apple Support guys.
Thanks for your suggestions. As I stated before, I put the DLL back to the "original" folder, re-started the sytems but I am still getting the AE error regarding a "missing entry on the SQLite3.dll".
After putting back such file to the original folder now I am getting the "same inital error" I got after the update ONLY in iTunes. I have not dare to move anything with my iPod yet. I do not want the whole thing to become worst that already is.
In regards to your nest suggestion  "...Another thing I can think of is that you might actually need to unregister the DLL via regsrv, then re-register it somehow to re-establish the proper hooks. Still, quite odd....."..
I wonder if you cand provide me with the necessary steps to attempt this. I have no experience working/fixing DLL's.
    Thanks and regards,

  • Extremely slow download time for quicktime and itunes

When clicking to download quicktime and itunes, I get a message saying it will take 10h 10mins to download, even though its only 36MB! I've been trying for a few hours to download from different sites, deleting the old quicktime from the comp and restarting, but to no avail. Does anyone know what causes this problem or how to fix it? All other sites and downloads are working as quickly as usual.
    Cheers!

It's not fair for Apple to produce a 5gb upgrade with no option to get it on CD instead of download.  Obviously their own servers cannot handle the demand.  The blogs are littered with complaints - not just one ISP but many.
By the way, apple - did you know that many of your customers have monthly download limits from their ISP?  They're probably going to pay more for the overages than they would have for a CD with the update on it.
Please change this for the next update.

  • Installing quicktime and itunes

I am a newbie to this forum. I searched the forum and couldn't find the answer I was looking for so here is my question. When I try to open either iTunes or the Quicktime player I get a error message that reads "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." (it is one of those 'send error report' messages. Anyone who has windows has probably seen them before) Since it is happening with both Quicktime player and iTunes I can only assume that this is a problem with Quicktime. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling many times. Every time I try to uninstall Quicktime it tells me "a fatal error has occurred during installation" and never uninstalls. The only way I can uninstall is to just remove all the program files. Has anyone ever experienced this before? I need help.
I have done everything you have suggested in your trouble shooting article HT1926, Nothing works.

I have a laptop Aspire4520. I have the installer for QT with iTunes...because when I tried to use the other QT installer withough iTunes I got the same error message.
I am running as admin since I am the only one that uses this machine. Yes all I finally got a pc laptop...lol
The installer goes all the way through until it tries to set updating (i assume) and the error I get will not let me go further..options are to cancel then it all goes to the beginning and I have to quit.
    error:
there is a problem with this windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact support personnel or package vendor.
what do I do? I have already gotten rid of the temp folder that was mentioned in the docs listed for troubleshooting/ restarted and still it won't install.
Being a pc and no other apple software installed, how am i to get the apple updater that it seems to need?

  • How can I locate, uninstall Quicktime and iTunes in order to reinstall?

Installed iTunes and Quicktime and bought music. Then tried to access a couple of week later. From iTunes got message 'the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable'. Quicktime says 'Error 46: could not load or find the QT ActiveX control'. I can't access them through Add/Remove Programs, so can't uninstall or update. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    DELL   Windows XP

I've installed and run Win Install Cleanup. Have tried reinstalling iTunes and QT a couple of times. Both times, the status bar freezes at four 'blocks' from the end, with the message 'Registering iTunes automation server'. The Task Manager says the installer's status is Running, so I don't know what to do, other than uninstall as best I can and start the process again. Could it be that the Security Center is preventing it from completing the installation? Any suggestions gratefully received.

  • Quicktime (and iTunes) skip if uploading

ok. This is a little weird. For the past several months, QT and iTunes have trouble playing any format audio or video if I am uploading. For example, if I send an email with a bunch of pictures, itunes or QT will start stuttering. Processor usage doesn't increase, and it really shouldn't. But when the upload is done, everything returns to normal. If I use something that is not dependant on QT (like VLC or mplayer) everything works fine.
repair permissions didn't change anything and this was before I installed divx 6 and flip4mac free.
Any ideas or anyone else come across this?
DP800 MDD. plenty of RAM and HD space.

are you sure you have completely uninstalled quicktime? there is a problem with a file in the qt folders that cannot be deleted. sometimes it makes it imposible to uninstall completely, weather it is tried with control pannel or the new installer. to be sure QT has been completely removed you need to check "program files\quicktime". if there is a folder for quicktime and it still has a file (or several) in it, it won't allow the complete uninstall of the program, which in turn makes it impossible to install the newer version. If you have a quicktime folder then follow my quoted instructions below to reinstall quicktime. once you have reinstalled QT, you can reinstall/update itunes. hope this works for ya

    {quote:title=Thermos017 wrote:}
the problem is caused by a file that cannot be deleted in the quicktime folder, and is very easy to fix.
if you search for "CFCharacterSetBitmaps.bitmap" or navigate to "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem" you will find the file. as i said, it cannot be deleted, however it can be moved to another location on the c drive. move the file to your desktop or anywhere outside the program files folder, then run the install again. Be sure you cut/paste the file to another location. drag & drop will only copy the file, and will leave the problem file in its original location.
    if the install still fails, then you'll have to double check that the file mentioned above was not regenerated in the install attempt (repeat instruction in paragraph2), and remove the QT program through control panel. once the file is removed, the control panel can remove the whole program, then the reinstall will work just fine. {quote}

  • Installing New version QuickTime and ITunes

I have exhausted all the standard installation help. Every time I try to install the latest version I get the following: Cannot open HKEYLOCALMACHINE|Software|Classes|QuickTime.QuickTime|CLSID

I assume this is a registry problem - I am logged on as administrator and have run a registry cleanup programme. Any suggestions?

as installation begins it starts running the QuickTime install and says "A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed". Funny thing is....it won't let me uninstall QuickTime because it gives me the same error as mentioned before
Okay. Let's try removing your existing QuickTime by other means than the "Uninstall a program" control panel.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover QuickTime program files:
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
    (5) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (6) Restart your computer.
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly now?
