Quicktime and iTunes Won't Open after updating to iTunes 7.3.1

So this morning I downloaded iTunes 7.3.1, but I winged it as usual. And I only winged it because the option to upgrade was in Korean, and for some reason I can't change it to English. But anyway, I updated as usual and my computer restarted. Then I tried to open up iTunes and I got a error report. And it took me to a Windows Error Reporting and said the problem was my hard drive. And said to go to run, type in EVENTVWR, and double click on application and than double click on an event ID of 1005. That didn't work, so of course my iTunes and Quicktime(which won't install even after I tried to repair it) arn't having a temp. problem. So I tried the second solution and typed in CMD after I clicked run. And then a black window popped up and I was suppose to type in chkdsk /f, but when I tried to start typing the window just closed itself. And after I got home this evening, I tried opening iTunes and it said to reinstall iTunes and I did. So I tried opening it agains after I reinstalled it, and the same error popped up and quicktime still will not open.
So any suggestions on what to do?

Okay. That's looking like a badly broken QuickTime (although it's not the most common message people see under those circumstances).
So we'd better try swapping out your existing QuickTime. Since it's giving you "fatal errors", it's unlikely that you'll be able to use Add/remove Programs to uninstall it. So we'll try getting it out of there by other means.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC (Run CleanUp, find "QuickTime in the entries in CleanUp, select the QuickTime entry and click "Remove"):
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
3. Open Program Files.
4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • ITunes won't open after update; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5

iTunes won't open after update - help, please; MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.6.8, iTunes version 11.1.5.

i had a problem similar to yours and better yet, i have the fix for it. i downloaded maverick 4 months ago and was without itunes ever since. all itunes icon did was bounce. itunes would never open and whats more, is when i would try to update it, i would get a "thank you for downloading itunes!" page , but the download would never work. so i scoured the net for solves. nothing that worked. <4 months later> then last night i took a new approach. i decided even though maverick would not allow me to uninstall itunes, i would find a way to uninstall itunes. then i would reinstall back to 11.1.5 i was successful and heres what i did.
    step one-
Back up your iTunes Library.itl file, found under ~/Music/iTunes
(even tho i didnt, i only had 3 artists in there at the time. and they didnt get erased but i advise you back up just in case.)
    step two-
download itunes 10.7 from apple. i used this link Download it from Apple here
(i pulled the link from Aarons website (awesometast.com). you download 10.7 however you want but i used the link above and have had no issues).
although im not sure you need to do this step ( you may be able to download 11.1.5 itunes without 10.7, i did because i was following intructions from http://awesometoast.com/downgrading-to-itunes-10-7-from-itunes-11-on-osx/
    step 3-
    open Terminal
    step 4-
enter in these 3 commands hitting return after each line. 1st line nothing seems to happen, 2nd line nothing seems to happen and 3rd line gives you a warning and requires password to continue. when i did it, my password didnt appear as i entered it and i hit return without looking, so i entered it in again, although im not sure i had to the 2nd time.
    killall iTunes
    killall "iTunes Helper"
    sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app/
    step 5-
drag off and dump the itunes icon (which now has the ? shadow in it) off your dock.
    step 6-
install 10.7 itunes you downloaded earlier. (not sure if this part is neccesary. you may be able to just download 11.1.5 but i downloaded 10.7 because i was following Aarons steps.) itunes now works.
    step 7-
go to apple and update to 11.1.5 itunes. install it. open it and you have itunes 11.1.5 in perfect working order. assuming you have a decent internet speed for the downloads, the whole process takes very little time.
with those steps above, you can solve itunes just bouncing and not launching issues and also the "thank you for downloading" and nothing downloads issue. enjoy. also i would like to give a shout out to http://awesometoast.com and thank Aaron for the knowledge that enabled me to get itunes back into my life.

  • Itunes won't open after update to 11

I've been running Itunes 10 on my macbook pro (Snow Leopard) until today when I updated to 11.  The update appeared to complete successfully (no error messages).  But afterwards when I try to open iTunes it immediately exits (with no user-facing message) and Console shows a message like this:
    12/3/13 1:36:23 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[143] com.apple.console ([0x0-0xdd0dd].com.apple.iTunes[1045]) Exited with exit code: 1
Some troubleshooting steps I've already tried:
Same thing happens if I try to start itunes in "safe mode".
Same thing happens if I try to start itunes from a different user account.
    I've repaired permissions.
I've restarted a few times since installing Itunes and since repairing permissions.
    Quicktime starts fine.
I'm not particularly interested in version 11 features, I'd be happy to have version 10 back -- or a working version 11.
But what I really really don't want is to lose any library information, playlists, play counts, ratings, etc.  I want to be quite careful not to lose any of those.
One thing that looks suspicious to me is that it looks like in some way version 10 is still installed.  At the end of the install, installd wrote both of these lines to the log in the same second:
    12/3/13 11:39:10 AM installd[6928] install Installed "iTunes" (11.1.3)
    12/3/13 11:39:10 AM installd[6928] install Installed "iTunes" (10.6.3)
Also if I open Software Update, under "Installed Software" it also shows both versions:
    Thanks!

After updating to OSX 10.9.3, my iTunes won't open. If I try to drag it to trash, I get the message "iTunes can't be modified or deleted because it is required by OS X".

  • Itunes won't open after update

My Itunes won't open since I updated it... No error messages appears and in the task manager, the process is running.. but nothing appears in Task Manager Applications! And, of course it never opens...
Someone else with the same problem found any solution?

Same thing happens to me, I installed iTunes 10 and it simply won't open when I launch it.
I don't have the bonjour service in my Task Manager so I guess I can't try that solution.
This stinks, what is wrong with this faulty version of iTunes? If I lose my iPhone data I would seriously die.
    BTW I'm using Windows Vista.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!

  • Applications won't open after update to iTunes and QuickTime

I just allowed a software update for iTunes and QuickTime. After rebooting, I found that the Finder will not start, nor Mail nor most other applications. TextEdit will start, which gives me the Menu bar so I can switch users, but all users have the same problem.
I cannot see the hard drive icon without the Finder. If I hit the Finder button, it wiggles and then dies. Safari starts, but "quits unexpectedly" when I try to browse with it.
I bought the G5 with 10.2 installed, then upgraded to 10.3 I have the 10.3 upgrade disks, but don't know if I can use these to do an archive and re-install.
I can see the hard drive by doing an "open" from TextEdit, but of course I can't use that to open another application. I've booted of the 10.3 upgrade disk and used Disk Repair, but it found no problems. Lots of permissions problems, but I doubt that is causing the trouble.
I'm in a real fix here. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Ray
    G5 Mac OS X (10.3.9) )
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I'm having a similar problem only with disk utility after updating iTunes and Quicktime. I am unable to repair permissions, but otherwise the machine is working great as before. When I try to repair permissions using either Cocktail or Onyx it just keeps going, going, going and going but never finishes. It will run for several hours before I have to force quit the application. Repairing permissions has never taken more than 15 minutes prior to this update.
I decided to try using disk utility while booted to osx, I get a message that says communication between the disk managment tool and disk utility has been lost and operation cannot continue. The same error occurs when running disk utility off the startup cd. I restored using my backup then ran disk utility and all was okay using all of the methods mentioned above. I installed the updates again and the same problem occurs when trying to repair permissions.
Guess I will reload my backup and wait for a fix from apple unless someone chimes in with ideas on what could be wrong. Thank goodness for backups!!! This is the first software update that has given me any problems. Oh, one other thing. I installed the updates on my titanium powerbook running 10.3.9 and didn't have any problems. The setup on my tibook is essentially the same as my powermac G4. What gives? Anyone else having problems after installing the updates?

  • ITunes won't open after update to 11.4. Running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

I did a software update for iTunes 11.4 and now it won't open. When I click it on the dock, it jumps once and doesn't open. I have tried re-setting permissions in disk utility and restarting computer after.
My biggest fear is losing my 20GB of music.

I'm having the same exact problem as well. Macbook Pro (10.6.8)

Check with the developer to make sure iTunes works with this version of Mac OS X.  You may need to reinstall the application.  Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling about five times and I still get the same pop-up message.  Also, my music folder is empty... all my mp3 files are gone. What happened and what can I do?

Ciarra! If you uninstall ITunes, you will not lose your content because your music, apps and other things are in your music library (default mode). So do not delete your music library.
Uninstaling iTunes can fix your problem. Do not worry, your content will stay in your pc.
Ah... If you want keep your backup from your device, so do not delete the C:\Program Files (x84)\iTunes
Do the reinstallation and tell me what happen.

  • My iTunes won't open after updating it

I updated my iTunes to iTunes 11 and restarted my laptop to finish the update, but now when I try to open my iTunes it keeps telling me "Error: New iTunes Library". How do I fix this and get my iTunes to work again?

I just get the "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." message.
Let's first check to see if this is associated with a problem with your QuickTime. (iTunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work correctly.)
Try launching your QuickTime. Does it:
    (a) launch perfectly fine?
    (b) fail to launch with an error message? (If so, what does it say?)
    (c) exhibit other peculiar behavior? (If so, could you describe it for us?)

  • TS3212 itunes will not open after updating to itunes 11

I updated iTunes yester day and now it won't open.
I have tried logging out and restarting.  I have also unisntalled iTunes and reinstalled.  I have logged out of iCloud as well.
If I clcik on an audio file then Windows Media player oepns up instead.  What's p with that?

Same for me as above. Installing Quicktime made the difference. But I hate this version - the GUI is so confusing. Do you know how we can go back to an earlier version?

  • ITunes won't open after update to leopard

I just updated to OSX10.5.8, thats as far as a PPC G5 will go, however when trying to use iTunes it says I need a later version of Quicktime, which doesn't come up when I check for updates. 7.5.5 and I have 7.3.0. Is there a solution for this?
    Thanks!

    Fixed... sorry!

  • Both iPod and iPad won't connect after update.

Both iPod and iPad won't connect after update.  iTunes says "can't allocate a resource"

I had the same problem after updating to iOS 7 today. I did follow the advice on another site, but additionally rebooted my iMac. Worked after that.
Follow these steps to reset the Lockdown folder:
Disconnect all iOS devices from your computer and quit iTunes.
From the Finder, choose Go > Go to folder.
Type the following and then press Return:
    /var/db/lockdown.
The Finder window should display one or more files with long alphanumeric file names.
In the Finder, choose Edit > Select all. Then, choose File > Move to Trash. Enter an administrator password if prompted.
Note: Do not delete the Lockdown folder itself. Delete only the files contained inside the Lockdown folder.
Reconnect your iOS device and open iTunes
My Additional step: reboot the Mac. Your iPad should give the first indication that it has worked by asking you to "trust this computer" or some such. Agree. Then iTunes should have reopened with your iPad showing and syncing.

ITunes won't open after OS update, ITunes has been updated, it won't open or bounce. It will not allow me to move it to trash or reinstall it. I have already updated to OS X Yosmite two times as directed by apple, I have rebooted in safe made as well as Command/Option/P/R before start up. I have opened console/system log to see if there is anything going on but when I click on Itunes nothing happens, not even so much as half a line of script. I'm stumped. If I wanted someone to tell me to turn it off and on again I'd just watch IT Crowd. please help

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities
If you head into your applications folder and locate iTunes. Right click iTunes and show package contents. In there there will be a contents folder --> MacOS --> double click on the iTunes terminal icon. This should force iTunes to open via a terminal window and at the very least it will tell you what it is getting stuck on.
