Quicktime and Itunes won't start

I have spent the last 2 hours reading other posts and have not found a solution yet.
I am getting; +Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close+
and; +Quicktime Player has encountered a problem and needs to close+
-Tryed uninstalling quicktime, itunes, bonjour etc... using revo uninstaller and removed all registry values and folders pertaining to apple/itunes/quicktime
then ran ccleaner and scanned for registry issues and fixed all.
reinstalled and still nothing
-I can open quicktime preferences from the control panel just fine, hitting about shows version 7.6.9
but hitting update gives me the error:
+An Exception occurred while trying to run " C:\windows\system32\shell32.dll,+
+Control_RunDLL "C:\Program Files\quickTime\QTSystem\quicktime.cpl",quicktime"+
Which tells me that it is looking in the right folder but no joy.
-I have completely removed norton antivirus, changed the permissions for all users, and have set QTask to be allowed to start on boot using MSconfig (though I don't see it in the process explorer)
-The Quicktime error shows: EventType: BEX P1: QuickTimePlayer.exe ...
-The Itunes error shows: AppName: Itunes AppVer: 10.1.2.17 ModName: Unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 offset:000a01cc
Hopefully I have supplied enough information
Thanks for helping

Id try un-installing again and using your revo and ccleaner. Then install Windows Installer Cleanup Utility you'll have to download it from The Geeks, don't think Microsoft still has it at their site.
http://majorgeeks.com/WindowsInstaller_CleanUp_Utilityd4459.html
When you run Windows Installer Cleanup Utility your going to click on any QuickTime showing up in there, this will clean up old QuickTime installer files. iTunes you want to remove also, but that may show up as 10.1.2 which would be the version of iTunes. Now hopefully a clean install should now go thru and work

  • Quicktime and iTunes won't play anything, require computer restart.

Since installing Lion and the latest iTunes, I cannot consistently play songs or videos in iTunes (or Quicktime, for that matter). I hit the play button and it changes to a pause button, but the file doesn't progress past 0:00. I try pausing and restarting the song (or movie) and it doesn't play. This occurs both with songs on my computer and in previews from the iTunes Store. Restarting my iMac seems to fix it, but the problem returns after a period of use. Quitting and restarting iTunes does not fix the problem.
It seems that I need to reinstall Quicktime and/or iTunes (not sure how), but I'm open to other suggestions. Any help would be appreciated.

    jmaybee,
You need to go get a program called Pacifist 3.2.2 (it's shareware but you can use it for free - I cannot say enough of how great this program is, it has saved my skin more times than I can count)
    http://www.charlessoft.com
Then get the Snow Leopard disk that came with your system and put it in the optical drive and let it mount.
Using Pacifist, use the "Open Apple Install Discs" button, select the Snow Leopard disk and let it read the package installers. This may take some time, as it's got to read the DVD and pull up all the installer .pkg files..
When Pacifist is done, you'll see something that looks like this:
    http://home.comcast.net/~foodandart/MacForums/PacifistSnowLeopardQT.jpg
Dig down into the installer packages thusly:
    Contents of OSInstall.mpkg
       Contents of EssentialSystemSoftware
          Contents of EssentialSystemSoftwareGroup
             Contents of Essentials.pkg
                Applications
                   QuickTime Player.app
Select the QuickTime player to highlight it, then you just hit the large arrow at the upper left corner of the Pacifist window (sorry for my black Snow Leopard scheme making things hard to see) and it will ask you if you are certain and also to backup files (why? they're gone already!) and it will install the QuickTime Player to the default location in your Applications folder.
I *just* tried this with my own system and tossed my original copy of QTX on the Desktop and the new install works perfect.
    There you go..
    Regards,
    Deb.

  • Quicktime and iTunes Won't Open after updating to iTunes 7.3.1

So this morning I downloaded iTunes 7.3.1, but I winged it as usual. And I only winged it because the option to upgrade was in Korean, and for some reason I can't change it to English. But anyway, I updated as usual and my computer restarted. Then I tried to open up iTunes and I got a error report. And it took me to a Windows Error Reporting and said the problem was my hard drive. And said to go to run, type in EVENTVWR, and double click on application and than double click on an event ID of 1005. That didn't work, so of course my iTunes and Quicktime(which won't install even after I tried to repair it) arn't having a temp. problem. So I tried the second solution and typed in CMD after I clicked run. And then a black window popped up and I was suppose to type in chkdsk /f, but when I tried to start typing the window just closed itself. And after I got home this evening, I tried opening iTunes and it said to reinstall iTunes and I did. So I tried opening it agains after I reinstalled it, and the same error popped up and quicktime still will not open.
So any suggestions on what to do?

Okay. That's looking like a badly broken QuickTime (although it's not the most common message people see under those circumstances).
So we'd better try swapping out your existing QuickTime. Since it's giving you "fatal errors", it's unlikely that you'll be able to use Add/remove Programs to uninstall it. So we'll try getting it out of there by other means.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC (Run CleanUp, find "QuickTime in the entries in CleanUp, select the QuickTime entry and click "Remove"):
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Upgraded to V 7 and iTunes won't start

    I get the following massage:
    iTunes.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x10001040" referenced memory at "0x10001040". The memory could not "read"
    OK to terminate program
    CANCEL to debug.
    I have unistalled several times
    rebooted every time
    installed from my original cd
    and finally got nowhere....
Anyone that has seen this knows what the fix is?

The instruction at "0x10001040" referenced memory at "0x10001040". The memory could not "read"
of all things, that one usually indicates a broken QuickTime (especially in itunes versions 5.0.x and 6.0.x).
let's first try a careful standalone QT 7.1.3 install.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1.3 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1.3 Installers … get the one that doesn’t mention itunes
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

  • IPod and iTunes won't start songs at the beginning

So I got a new computer, and I transfered all of my music and playlists over to it with and external HD. It has all of the songs back on it, but some of the songs don't start at the beginning, but if I make it rewind towards the beginning of the song, the whole song will play.
Also, if I skip to the next song while a song is still playing, if I go back to that song it will start on the minute/second it left off. Does anyone know what I can do?
This happens on my computer and on both my iPoda and iTouch. It is getting quite annoying and I hope someone can help me fix it!

Somehow the "Remember playback position" setting on the Options tab has gotten a checkmark next to it.
Usually it is only set that way for audiobooks & podcasts.
You can right-click > Get Info on all your music tracks and go to the options tab to uncheck it. You do not have to do them one-by-one, just do a control-A or itunes menu > edit > select all.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Did you download the new iTunes update that was also released this afternoon? That might be the problem. The new iTunes update came out today as well as the new iOS 7 update and if you haven't downloaded the new iTunes update it may be a compatibility problem so if you didn't, first update to the new iTunes and try again.

  • Please help - iTunes won't start anymore: unknown error -69

    Hello out there,
please can anybody help me: all of a sudden my iTunes won't start any more - it only shows a message stating an unknown error -69 and then quits.
I did not change anything on my system before that, so I just don't know what could trigger that...
I am using iTunes 7.0.2 on Windows XP SP2, both German versions.
Before posting this question I searched the archives and tried the following, all to no avail:
    1. disabled "safe mode" in QuickTime audio options -> problem remains
    2. set speakers to "stereo headphones" in Windows sound options -> problem remains
    3. deinstalled iTunes, downloaded the installation file again and reinstalled it -> problem remains
    4. deinstalled iTunes and QuickTime, downloaded QuickTime stand-alone version, installed this and afterwards iTunes again -> problem remains
    5. deinstalled iTunes and QuickTime again, deleted all iTunes and QuickTime data folders, reinstalled everything again -> problem remains
    6. ran a CHKDSK an the drive iTunes is on -> no problems found
It still won't start, always giving this unknown error -69.
Please, does anybody know what to do?
Any hints and help are much appreciated!
    Thanks a lot
    and best regards

  • Itunes won't start-says it has to shut down

i started having problems with itunes and downlaoded the new itunes. won't start. in the error report it sayd its a compatability issue. when i send the report to ms though, they claim it to be an itunes problem. i could use a lot of help.

+when i tried to start quicktime it produced the same message as itunes with a little change to it. in the last part of the code it was 1482appcomp.txt.+
That problem will be causing the iTunes problem.
So let's try swapping out your existing QuickTime for a fresh copy.
Head into your Add/Remove programs. Uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
(If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
Next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
Go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. Does it launch properly now?
(If, however, you get an error message on any of the install or uninstalls, let us know what that message says. Precise text, please. Include any error message numbers if you're getting any.)
