Quicktime and listening to Sirius Satellite On-line

I changed a QT setting to view/save a video from the Internet. I'm not sure which setting as I was frustrated and clicking anything to make it work.
At any rate, now QT opens when I try to listen to Sirius On-line using my subscription and it won't work. Prior to changing this setting, It worked fine using the on-line player from Sirius.
I already reclaimed my link and file associations with Flip4Mac.
How do I reset my QT setting to make it stop hijacking my Sirius player?

OK, it seems this might not be QT as much as Safari. Now whenever I open a video from the Internet, it plays in QT as well. Thought I'd throw that in there if it helps someone figure out what's going on.

I listen to sirius sat radio throught safari.  since the upgrade to lion, my flip for mac doesn't work...any ideas?

Sirius has to be run in 32-bit mode in Safari.
Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder then click Get Info.
    Select:  Open in 32-bit mode.
Check the Flip 4 Mac developer site for Lion / Safari 5.1 compatible updates.

    Hi
Are you still facing the same error ? If yes, are you getting this error everytime you are trying to export ?
    Please try again and check.
This is basically a compilation error , where files are not converted into proper format correctly.
    Thanks,

When my iBook got hot like that, I would take a break and let it cool down.
You can buy laptop desks that have USB powered fans on them, such as the Targus Chill Mat.

  • ZEN X-Fi wireless and Sirius Satellite Ra

Will the new ZEN X-Fi be able to stream Sirius Satellite Radio? If not directly, could it pick up the stream from a PC? Is there any indication Creative will incorporate a web browser?
    Thanks!

Well, this forum is for people who are having problems, it's a support forum. People come here when they are having problems, so seeing a lot of problems in here is no sign at all.
What are you asking for? Just more features? Are you having problems with your player?
I can understand that Creative doesn't update a player that's functioning as it should. You can't expect them to bring whole new features.

  • Listening to Sirius Canada online sub with a plug in?

Hi all, I have a Sirius sat radio, and as part of that, we can listen to sirius online too. Just tried to do that with the Mac today, and I get the following message:
The page “SIRIUS Player - 100% Commercial-free Music” has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page:
    http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/MediaPlayer/
Do you want to open the page?
So it directs me to that page to download something, I tried to down load the plugin for quicktime but that didnt help. Do I have to download and install Windows media player 9 for OS X....will that fix my issue or is there something else thats easier that I can do....just looking to not have any Windows file on the Mac if its possible.
Thanks very much for your thoughts.

No, Windows Media Player is no longer supported.
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
Assuming you already run OS 10.4.9 or above and have Quicktime 7.2, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer from http://uk.real.com/player/
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
    Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • How do I listen to Sirius XM on MacBook Pro?

    Hello,
I recently bought my first MacBook Pro and to be honest this is my first Mac-anything outside of an iPhone. I'm trying to listen to Sirius via Safari and I keep getting a "you need to download Flash" message in the browser. I've searched the App Store for a solution and have not found one.
Can someone please guide me here?
    Thanks!
    -DC

Flash is from Adobe. You get it from them.
But I suggest you get Google Chrome as Safari is tied into the OS and sometime it does thing that aren't to user friendly.

  • How can I record an Audio Instrument (saxophone) and listen to a reference track at the same time?

How can I record an Audio Instrument, and listen to a reference track at the same time?

Are you using an external audio controller or the line-in and headphone jacks on the side of your computer? You shouldn't have an issue using headphones when you're recording through the line-in but you may want to make sure you have monitoring on and it's going to the right place.
If you're using an external audio controller, try making an aggregate device combining the controller and the "built-in output" into the same device. Go to Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup, click the "+" sign at the bottom left to make a new device and check the "use" boxes to the left of the physical devices you want to use as part of that aggregate device. That is how I use the computer's speakers or headphones to monitor my input as opposed to only being able to use the output on my audio controller.
Now that I see some of the questions on the side of this page I realize that the 13" MBPs seem to have only one combined input/output jack... That is an incredibly stupid feature. What on Earth could possibly justify that design decision? I suppose if that's the problem you're having you'll have to buy some sort of splitter (if they even make them) or get an external audio controller like an Apogee Duet or something along those lines. I would be furious if they combined those two jacks on all of the MBPs.

  • How to listen to Sirius with iMac

Hello, I'm a new iMac owner and can't get any sound out of my Sirius media player. Everything loads up like it does on my PC, but no sound. I downloaded the Pulsar player, but there is a $20 charge to be able to use it, and I get some squeaking noise on the MadDog Radio station. Is this the only option to listen to Sirius on my iMac, or is there a free player that will work. Thanks, Dave

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    As long as you have a Sirius account this should work;

  • QuickTime and WMP

Whenever I go to Tower Records to listen to samples of CD's the samples can be listened to with either RealPlayer or Windows Media Player. I click on the RealPlayer and no problem, everything plays fine. Whenever I click on the Windows Media Player sample I launch a green icon (WMV Player) for about a second and then QuickTime launches and nothing happens. What is WMV Player and how is it tied or linked to QuickTime and how can I stop it so only the Windows Media Player (orange with blue triangle icon) is launched and played ? Thanks in advance

I'm not testing a bunch of Sites to prove WMP or Real works (or doesn't).
    First.
It's not a question regarding QT.
    Second.
Not all Web pages are created equally. Some ignore the Mac OS. Some make up their own rules.
    Third.
Both (.wma and .ra) work just fine for me (at the Amazon Site).
Sorry. Not an issue for me and my Mac mini. Even over dial-up.
    Fourth.
The Real Media format wanted to install even (more) components.
The Internet has hundreds of ways to present content. Most of them use some DRM software (so we can't steal the 10 second sample).
    Fifth.
I don't use the Internet to purchase music.
I've never even purchased a single music CD (except as gifts).
    Free, over the radio.

  • Bluetooth Headphones to listen to Sirius Radio through MacBook Pro

I want to buy headphones so I can listen to Sirius through Safari wirelessly. Too much to ask?
Please let me know if there are headphones out there that will allow this.
I called Apple about 6 mos ago and they didn't help me much.
I REALLY WANT TO BUY A PAIR IF I ONLY KNEW WHICH ONES WOULD WORK!
I have the newest MacBook Pro with Leopard... Thanks!

I was having more or less the same problem. A few times I could hear the music from the computer, but every time I paused the music it was hard to get it working again.
This is what I did, and it seems to be working:
    1) Delete the DS980 headset as bluetooth device.
    2) Reset the headset following the instructions on the manual (1. On/Off key for 5 seconds and then 2. Press and hold the On/Off key and the call handling key simultaneously for 5 seconds.)
    3) Pair the headset again with the computer, but this time I only selected the headphones service (and uncheck the headset service).
    4) After that I click on the Bluetooth Status on the Menu Bar, and then go to HBH-DS980, and select "use headphones". (I think this is the important part, but before resetting the headset this didn't work all the times)
And now I can hear the music and other sounds from the computer. I hope this helps.
I think next time I may get the iSkin Cerulean F1 + TX.

  • Getting Automator or AppleScript to start up QuickTime and play a radio sta

I am new to Automator and have never tried AppleScript.
I would like my Mac to start up and play a radio station. I have been successful in getting the link to work in QuickTime or play directly in Safari. However, when I try to use Automator to start QuickTime and play the link, uh, nothing happens. When I save the workflow to the desktop and click on it, it opens up Automator.
I would have expected that running the workflow would open up QuickTime and then load the link and play it.
I am missing something here and getting frustrated with the documentation.
I could use AppleScript, but know nothing about it and have not been able to find a already made AppleScript online.

When I save the workflow to the desktop and click on it, it opens up Automator.
It would appear that you're saving the workflow as a workflow rather than saving it as an application. In Automator's Save dialog, look for the File Format drop-down and select Application instead.
Beyond that, without knowing the stream's URL or the stream's referring web page it would be difficult to say with certainty what the best approach might be. If you could post the URL that would help. A few questions that come to mind: Is the radio station a live streaming AM or FM station? A podcast? What file format is used? Does a .qtl file or some other file get downloaded to your desktop when you click on the "listen live" link from the referring radio station's web page?
For example, when I click on "Click to listen with Quicktime" at kgoam810.com a listenlive.qtl file is downloaded to my desktop. In this case the Automator workflow would be easy to set up, using these two Finder library actions:
    1) *Get Specified Finder Items* -- click on the "+" sign, navigate to the listenlive.qtl file and select it.
    2) *Open Finder Items* -- set it to open with the default application.
Save the workflow as an application and add to your Login Items.
If no file is downloaded and you have only the stream's URL, you may be able to cobble together a workflow which makes use of a GUI type applescript. I've had success using the following actions:
    1) *Get Specified Text* -- from Automator's TextEdit library. Simply type in or paste the URL into the text box.
    2) *Copy to Clipboard* -- from Automator's System library.
    3) *Run AppleScript* -- from the Automator library. The script shown below has worked for me. Copy the code and paste it into the Run AppleScript box, overwriting what's pre-populated there:
    *on run {input, parameters}*
    *tell application "QuickTime Player"*
    activate
    *tell application "System Events"*
    *tell process "QuickTime Player"*
    *keystroke "u" using command down*
    *keystroke "v" using command down*
    *delay 1*
    *keystroke return*
    *end tell*
    *end tell*
    *end tell*
    *return input*
    *end run*
Compile the script by clicking on the hammer icon in the Run AppleScript box and save the workflow as an application. Add it to your Login Items.
Note that as a GUI applescript is being used here, you should have "Enable access for assistive devices" checked under System Preferences > Universal Access. Also, under the QuickTime Player's Preferences > Other, make sure that "Show Content Guide automatically" is unchecked.
Your mileage may vary... Good luck!

  • Bonjour help + clean uninstall and re-install of iTunes, Quicktime, and related components

    I am using Win7 x64.
To make a long story short, I unistalled Bonjour.  When the next update for iTunes came out (Ver. 10.4.1), I was unable to update due to the error message: "Service Bonjour (Bonjour Services) failed to start.  Please verify you have sufficient administrative permission and try again" or something along those lines.  After trying several things to no avail, I finally did a clean uninstall of iTunes, Quicktime, and all related components as per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.  When I then tried to reinstall iTunes and Quicktime, I got the same error message.  I know people have had problems with Bonjour before, but I couldn't find any info on why I am getting this after a clean uninstall or what to do about it, so any ideas would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Dear Jason Maidment,

movies played on a macbook pro stall for split seconds in quicktime and vlc. Anybody else?

Don't worry, there is nothing wrong with your computer. I have the same issue, and it is a bug. Sometimes a restart solves it. Sometimes and if you use subtitles, you will see the first line being displayed but the second one not, etc.
I have reported that to Apple and there is hope for a fix.

  • Quicktime and Divx and MPEG 2

    Hi,
After months of nagging from my IT colleagues I have just bought a Mac mini with Leopard and am just getting to grips with how it functions. (very impressed to date now I have a "proper operting system" :o) )I am using it in my lounge connected to my Plasma TV. I have 4 other Windows XP machines which share all their "My Documents" on a Buffalo Link Station which is backed up to Buffalo Drivestation. I am looking for similar functionality to WMP 11 and would like to know if there is any way that Quicktime can show DIVX's and MPEG2's in the file list so I can use Frontrow from teh remote as the interface is so slick. I have the MPGE2 codec and DIVX installed. The MPEG codec does show lines (maybe interlacing) with any sideways movement when viewing my my raw MPGE2 cam corder videos. This doesn't happy with XP and WM11 however I can live with that as the MAc Mini is more convenient than a PC in the lounge.
Maybe I need something other than Quicktime? I was a bit nervous about posting here for the first time incase I get "abuse" but my other Mac users assure somebody will know the answer. I have some other questions so I'll post these on the site in the relevent areas now I'm registered.
    Cheers in advance.
    Clarkerz

If these Mpeg-2 videos are going to be on your hard drive. Look into this player, VLC. You can have a playlist of your videos. The de-interlacing is great! It can all so play Divx and dvd's. It's free Here's VLC site...
    http://www.videolan.org/
If your going to play Divx in Quicktime I would get this component (Perian) for Quicktime... This component will play Divx better in Quicktime (and other formats that Quicktime can't pay).
    http://perian.org/
    This will get you started...
