QuickTime animation becomes blurry on YouTube

I am working on a MacBookPro with OS 10.6.8. I have both QuickTime Player 10, and Quicktime Pro 7.6.6. I made an animation of a SketchUp model (a garden with trees and walls and such) and the exported animation looks very sharp and clear when viewed with QuickTime on my computer. The file info reads:
Dimensions: 720 × 480
Codec: H.264
Color Profile: SD (6-1-6)
Duration: 00:38
Total Bit Rate: 44,669
Size: 212.5 MB on disk
I have tried compressing the file as an mp4 (18.3 MB), and also as a m4v (10.1 MB), and all three versions look sharp and clear on my computer. There is very little change between the original 212.5 MB file and the compressed versions. However, when I upload any of these 3 files to YouTube, they all end up looking terrible — generally blurry and, in particular, all black lines in the animations become ragged and shimmery. The top playback quality allowed by YouTube is 480p, even for the 212.5 MB version.
My question is, why does a QT movie that looks so sharp on my computer end up so ragged on YouTube and, more importantly, is there a way to export or upload these movie files so they will end up just as sharp on YouTube as they are on my computer?
Thank you.
Marc

60i AVC video (MTS).
I haven't yet been able to get a truly Interlaced H.264 export out of Premiere Pro.  It seems to turn everything into Progressive, no matter what the settings are.  This will mess with the appearance of motion.  I wonder if that's what you're seeing, especially since it doesn't happen with the Animation export.  (Though I would expect the MPEG2 export to be fine as well, so maybe this is not the issue.)

  • Blurless Source Video Becomes Blurry on Export.

I have a Premiere Pro Project using 29.97fps 60i AVC video (MTS). A few of my cuts have pans. The pans are razor sharp and detailed in both the source material and when playing back in the editor.
When I put them through Adobe Media Encoder (keeping the resolution and framerate the same as the source) the pans come out very blurry. I've tried, mpeg2, Quicktime Animation, and H264. Quicktime Animation seems to be blur free but I can't use that for youtube.
I've tried tweaking the bitrate but it does not seem to help. Is there anyway to get blur free H264?

  • Gopro 2.7k export quicktime animation codec custom 22gb mov file?

Adobe support told me to export using quicktime <animation codec <custom 2704 x 1536 res for my gopro 2.7k and it turned into a 22.5 gb mov file. (not even 2 minutes long!!!!)
What do I do next? I mean I cant upload that to youtube. (well I could)
I'm new to adobe is there a better way to get my 2.7k res without it being 22.5gb or how do I convert it smaller and what would be the best for youtube.
I'm trying to get the best quality so I can view it later on my retina screen. Should I just upload it as is for best quality even if it takes a day lol? Thanks soooo much

Ya np I actually just check again, back in july 2010 youtube allowed various 4k formates then lowered in 2012 to 2048 x 1536 (I'm glad I just checked that)
So ya I've been researching youtubes uploader as much as I can and from different people have said large files get crushed so some have had better results converting it to a smaller size (not resolution) and uploading it for better results but now I have a 22gb 1 minute video and am wondering the best way to convert it smaller.
Also strange question but converting a 2.7k to 1080 will provide cleaner and crisper picuter but how would a 2.7k exported at 4k look. I would think it'd look grainy but what if you were viewing that on a 1080 screen?

  • How can I scale an image without it becoming blurry?

I'm following this tutorial on youtube and I'm doing everything he says, but when I scale the image it becomes blurry on mine and his was still perfect.

Rick is correct, but there are some features that can give better results than the default scaling:

By the way, it helps if you give a lot more information when asking a question. We have no idea what you've tried so far, and we don't even know what version of After Effects you're using.

  • My footage becomes blurry when i add the keyer

Whenever I use the chroma keyer, my footage goes blurry. It takes out the background brilliantly but the actual subject becomes blurry. Even after rendering. Anyone know what i'm doing wrong.

    Hello,
You posted on your YouTube clip:
"I contacted Apple directly and they have confirmed there is a problem, especially when using DV footage. They are trying to fix it as we speak. If you export your green screen footage to Motion 5 there is no decrease in the quality.
Hopefully they will have a patch soon."
Can you give details about that?  Any updates?
    Also -
Do you import to Final Cut, edit, then export using Motion 5?  Or, do you import to Motion 5 directly from DV, then open in FCP?
    I don't own Motion 5 yet - so I'm not familiar with it's capabilities.
I have the exact same issue - it's not dependent on project settings, or any Keyer adjustments that I've attempted.
    Thanks much.

I have a Photo (with Sharp Text) that when Placed in InDesign, the Text Becomes Blurry (as in Unreadable)...
What's Up with that? And, more Importantly, what can I do to Correct?  Thanks (can attach if needed)

Is this on screen or in print? Check Display Performance. Right-click on the image to change the display performance of only that image, or use the View menu to change the Display Performance of the document. Higher display quality generally slows the program down, although it can be slight. If the text is a text layer in Photoshop consider saving as Photoshop PDF. This will keep the file fully editable in Photoshop but the text will be vector paths in the PDF, rather then rendered raster art at the image's resolution.

  • Quicktime animation codec bad playback

Hello, ever since I updated to the newest version of quicktime, any file using the Quicktime animation codec stutters and freezes on playback.
This has happened before, and rolling back to previous versions helped then, but isn't helping now.
I've gone far enough as to format the computer and reinstall everything, but the problem still occurs. Every other codec seems to work fine. I can work around it by using other export methods, but it's a problem when I need to edit previous or co-workers projects on my machine.

  • Why is text become blurry and out of focus?

Why is text become blurry and out of focus?

I am confused what device you are talking about. You question is here in the Using iPhone section, but it is marked for your MacBook Pro running iOS 6? If you are talking about an iPhone and you never update your profile to say you are running iOS 7, I would blame the paralax feature that slightly zooms into your picture, making certain low-res photos look extra blurry. Hope this helps.

  • Quicktime file becomes corrupted only after transfer from a camera

I have encountered an unusual Quicktime-related problem with a customer that I cannot solve. This has been tested on two different cameras (a Kodak Zi6 and a Casio EX-Z80) to verify it is not camera related. The customer has also tested it on his desktop and laptop computers to verify it occurs on both. It must be confined to some specific piece of software he installs, because I've never run into this problem elsewhere. His two computers both run Vista.
    1. He shoots video.
    2. Opens Quicktime.
    3. Plays the video (AVI or MOV... doesn't matter) while the video RESIDES on his camera. It plays fine.
    4. Has tried taking the SD card out of the camera, putting it into his laptop, then playing the video while it resides on the card. It plays fine.
    5. BUT... the moment he transfers the video file to his desktop and plays it in Quicktime, it becomes corrupted. It does play, but the image develops all kinds of blockyness and distorted colors. It becomes useless.
Any clues as to which software program he is installing that makes this problem occur? I have hundreds of other customers who use these same cameras and have no similar problem.
    Thanks.
    Richard

The video file is able to be transfered to the hard drive of the computer and it does play with QT, but with blockyness and distorted colors, correct? That would suggest to me video card and\or driver. The reason being if the file was not supported by QT or WMP it would not even play. QT would produce error 2048 and WMP would inform it could not handle the file. But...
I would go to the Window menu of QT player and click on Show Movie Inspector to get some info on the video file.
salaminizer, makes a good point on the possibilty of NTFS\FAT32 file systems. Right clicking on My Computer>Manage>Disk Management will show info of HD's on the computer. Some bought computers will have a back-up Partition that uses Fat32. Which the video might be being saved to.
I'm thinking video card and drivers, but on two separate computers? So find out the video codecs. It's tough unless you have the same camera or what software came with it? Let me know how you make out.

  • BUG: Rectangles inside FW symbols become blurry/misaligned

There seems to be a problem with the use of Rectangles within Symbols in Fireworks CS6, CS5 and earlier.
The problem is that they become blurry. More exactly, they become repositioned within the symbol—aligned to the half-pixel—and their edges become anti-aliased as a result. For example, here's a series of rectangles that I'd created on the canvas to visualize a set of color swatches:
Here's the same set of rectangles after having been saved as a Symbol and imported into another document:
At first I thought this was a problem with Symbols in general, but then I discovered that it only occurred with Rectangles—a.k.a. "rectangle primitives", which are a special kind of grouped vector object created using the Rectangle tool—and only when the contents of the Symbol in which they resided had a pixel width or height ending in an odd number (i.e., 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9).
    THE PROBLEM
Here's what I've observed, in greater detail. Start with two Rectangles, 99 x 99 pixels—one with a stroke only, the other with a fill only. Select the first Rectangle and choose Modify > Symbol > Convert to Symbol, and then do the same for the second. Save the file. Everything looks OK, right?
Now close the file, and reopen it. Have a look at the thumbnail previews within your Document Library. They look a little... fuzzy, yes?
Click on the name of one of the symbols in the Document Library to open the Symbol Properties dialog, and then click OK. Now look on the canvas...
Yikes. The symbol instance containing the stroked Rectangle (on the left) has become quite blurred. Now, back within the Document Library panel, click on the thumbnail preview of the other symbol to enter Edit Symbol mode, and then return to the document canvas...
Yikes again. The symbol instance containing the fill Rectangle (on the right) has also become blurred—horizontally, in this case. They both look worse now.
Note that it's not the instances nor their placement on the canvas that's the problem—you can move them anywhere on the canvas, and they'll still look just as bad—but the symbols themselves. Double click on one of the symbols to enter Edit Symbol mode and select the rectangle. Its X-Y position in the Properties panel will look normal, but if you open the Transform panel extension (http://www.senocular.com/fireworks/extensions/?entry=572), you'll see the real story: The rectangle has been re-aligned to the half-pixel.
Importantly, the trigger here isn't the dimensions of the rectangle, per se, but of the symbol contents as a whole. If the symbol contents have an even-numbered dimension, alignment remains crisp and pixel-perfect along that dimension; if the symbol contents have an odd-numbered pixel dimension, a blurry misalignment occurs. For example, here's a series of "even" rectangles (20 x 20 pixels) that, with their single-pixel spacing, comprise an odd-numbered selection (125px), shown before and after symbol conversion:
Incidentally, the same problem reveals itself when you import these symbols into another document using the Import Symbols command within the Document Library options menu.
    THE FIX
The patch for this bug, once it's occurred, is to edit the symbol. In Edit Symbol mode, select all objects—or just the misaligned Rectangle objects—and choose Modify > Snap To Pixel.
The fly in the ointment here is that, in many cases, the original alignment is not preserved. The rectangles may now be misaligned in relation to other objects in the symbol, as well as to other objects on the canvas. Therefore, to finish the job, you may need to also nudge the rectangle(s) by a pixel horizontally or vertically using the keyboard arrow keys.
The good news is that once a symbol has been fixed using Snap To Pixel, its alignment and clarity should remain fixed.
    THE WORKAROUND
The surest way to avoid this issue, of course, is to avoid including Rectangles in your symbols—not the geometric shape, but the grouped vector object as it's created by the Rectangle tool. Therefore, prior to converting a selection to a symbol, check for any Rectangles within the selection and ungroup them using the Modify > Ungroup command, which will convert them into simple paths, unaffected by this bug. (Chances are, by the time you're converting these objects to symbols, you won't need the fluid resizing or adjustable rounded corners that Rectangle objects offer; the trick will be remembering to perform this extra step.)
    THE BUG REPORT
Lastly, here's the bug report that I submitted to Adobe regarding this issue:
    Product name: Fireworks
    Product Version: 12.0.0.236
    Product Language: English
Your operating system: Mac OS 10.6.8
    ******BUG******
Concise problem statement: Rectangles within Symbols become blurry if the width or height of the symbol contents is an odd number (e.g., 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, etc.). The blurriness is caused by misalignment of Rectangles on the half-pixel within the symbol, and becomes apparent upon closing and reopening the document and either a) viewing the symbol's Document Library thumbnail preview, or b) clicking to view Symbol Properties or to Edit Symbol. It can also be observed upon Importing the symbol into the Document Library of another document.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
In an open FW document, draw a Rectangle and set the width and/or height to an odd number (e.g., 99 x 99 pixels).
Select the Rectangle and Convert to Symbol.
    Save and close the document.
Reopen the document. In the Document Library, double-click the symbol name to open the Symbol Properties dialog, and click OK. (Or double-click the symbol preview to Edit, and then return to the document canvas.)
Results: The Symbol instance appears blurry on the canvas. (The Symbol itself also appears blurry within Edit mode.)
Expected results: The Symbol should appear as it was originally created, without a loss of clarity or change in alignment.
Note that this bug can occur whether a rectangle's dimensions are even or odd; the determining factor is the dimensions of the symbol contents as a whole. However, the bug affects Rectangles only; it has not been observed with paths, ellipses, auto shapes, bitmaps, or groups.
The Transform panel extension was used to view the precise pixel alignment of objects and determine the cause of the blurriness.
For more information, including graphic demonstrations and workarounds, please see the following forum post: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1073489?tstart=0
This bug has also been observed in Fireworks 8 and CS5 on Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
    POSTSCRIPT
Amazingly, this bug can also affect Symbol instances on the canvas that have been "broken apart". To see this for yourself, create a symbol like one of the preceding examples, select the symbol instance on the canvas and choose Modify > Symbol > Break Apart. Save and close the file, then reopen it. The "broken apart" instance on the canvas will now appear blurry/misaligned(!).

    Thanks, Petros_!
That's good input. If this issue is important to you, consider submitting your own bug report. Feel free to copy and paste from mine, if it helps. (Just be sure to verify all results on your own setup first.)
Whenever possible, I'm trying to post bug reports on this forum in addition to submitting them to Adobe. Partially, this is to allow me to include graphics or go into slightly more detail, and partially it's to make bug reporting more transparent—to raise awareness of known issues among fellow users and reduce duplication of effort, to create a record, and to increase public visibility of these issues. It also allows for corrections or additions to be made by myself or other users.
However, it's not a true bug reporting system. So we don't know whether the Fireworks team has looked at this yet, whether it has been or will be assigned to someone, or whether your comment on this thread will be read by anyone on the Fireworks team.
Nevertheless, it is quite an investment of time tracking down a bug and writing it up like this, so I appreciate the kudos!

I have the new 10.1 Quicktime and use it to trim my 1080p HD .mov files. When I upload them directly to youtube from within quicktime they only play up to 720p in youtube. Is this a limitation of the quicktime player?

Is this a limitation of the quicktime player?
Not a YouTube user, but according to the You Tube side...
Not per se. QT itself supports 1080i/p encoding but the share presets are limited. If you want to use full 1080i/p HD, then manually convert the files using FCP, iMovie, QT 7 Pro, or GaragBand. Once you have created the target file PER THESE YOUTUBE INSTRUCTIONS, you can then manually upload the full HD video using the YouTube site uploader.

Do you think I should try to find a cheap mobo to OC my current CPU?  How about trying to find one (mobo) used?  I fear that my only realistic choice will be to scrap the CPU and eventually buy a new mobo and CPU, but as the CPU was only released just under two years ago I would value being over to overclock it with a cheap enough mobo to last me another year or so.
Who knows what additional problems may be run into by switching mainboards & such. The OS would have to be reinstalled fresh, etc. Money wise, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to invest more into a system that is rather outdated. The small performance gain making the switch to another board using the CPU you have, just doesn't really make much sense, especially if what you have now is completing the tasks asked of it. Save up some money, set it aside for a future build. There are plenty of new platforms in the works.
