QuickTime at Start Up

How do I stop QuickTime from loading at start up?

Okay. With that one, let's try the following.
Launch QuickTime and go "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences ..." (Or head into your Control Panels and launch the QuickTime control panel.)
Click the "Advanced" Tab, and uncheck "Install QuickTime icon in system tray". Click OK.
Now try a restart of the PC. Does the QuickTime system tray icon appear this time?

  • How to make a Quicktime movie start when I want, not automatically?

Is there any way to control when a Quicktime movie starts playing? I can pause and resume it pressing the K key, but I would like the ability to start a movie inside a slide clicking a key or the mouse.
    Any ideas?

Hugo, in Keynote movies automatically start whenever they appear on a slide, either because they have "built in" on a slide, or because the slide they are on has transitioned in (and the movie has no build itself).
Given this, there are two ways to control the start of a movie. One is to put the movie on a separate slide, and advance to that slide when you want the movie to start. If you like, you can do a screenshot of the first frame of the movie and put that on the prior slide, so that it looks like the movie is paused on the first frame, and when you click, it runs. If there is no transition effect used on the second slide, the audience won't be aware that you have used two slides to achieve this effect.
The other way to control the start is to assign a build to the movie, so that it builds in on a click. Again, you can have the first still from the movie already on the slide, and then, when you want to play the movie, have it build in directly on top of the still -- this will again give the appearance of a stopped movie suddenly starting up.

  • Quicktime never starts...

Could someone please help us to diagnose why Quicktime never starts up and plays online videos? Aren't they supposed to start playing after the page loads?
I looked to see if something was unchecked or off but couldn't find anything pertaining to Quicktime. Using Safari 4.05 and OS X 10.6.3. Any help would be appreciated...

Aren't they supposed to start playing after the page loads?
That depends on how the file and/or web page is encoded. Web pages can be coded to open a movie either in a browser or your system's QT player. In either case, the file itself can be encoded for "Fast Start" playback. In addition, a web page with a file not encoded for "Fast Start" can be coded to initiate "fast Start" playback in the browser. Thus, for the most part, it is up to the content creator to decide how an online file will open and playback.

  • QuickTime Automatic Start

Does anybody know how to stop quicktime from starting when windows starts up? I have looked all over, and i have not ofund any way how to stop it from starting up when windows starts up.
      Windows XP

I find that it is more reliable although more complex to do
    it this way.
One thing in particular that works better this way is getting
    a reliable
duration when using the MPEG Advance Xtra although, in your
    case, I realize
    that you're not using it.
    property pInit
    on beginSprite me
    pInit = FALSE
    end
    on exitFrame me
    if pInit = FALSE then
    pInit = TRUE
    sprite(me.spriteNum).movieRate=1
    end if
    end
This is also the more logical way to do it since it gives the
    QT movie a
    chance to initialize.

  • Quicktime and start-up with Snow Leopard...

I just installed Snow Leopard, Quicktime X seems to be a little choppy in HD (streaming video) now and also the start up is rather slow from re-start. I only have about 5% free disk space, will this help with lagging start-up? What about my choppy Quicktime when streaming??

    Yes! And possible data loss.
Most here say 15% should be available.
See things in Freeing up Disk space.
Once you have freed it up,
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption due to not enough disk space. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them. Disk Utility's Disk Repair is not perfect and may not find or repair all directory issues. A stronger utility may be required to finish the job.
    After that Repair Permissions.
No need to report Permissions errors....we all get them.

  • Quicktime has started to 'judder' when playing HD?

    MacBook Pro 1.16 Intel Core Duo (2G DDR2 memory) ; Quicktime 7.5.5
Quicktime has recently started to judder, stutter, when playing HDV 3/4's size or full screen. This is on a MacBook Pro Intel. It hasn't always done this. And.... I notice that when I'm playing the video clips through the Safari Browser (obviously accessing Quicktime) the clips play smoother.
I've never had a 100% smooth play, but it used to be FAIRLY smooth. I reboot, I fix permissions. Still juddering. I'm running Quicktime 7.5.5. And I'm wondering if I'm not TOO updated, trying to run a Leopard Quicktime on a Tiger operating system ... or something like that??
    Ben

    Hi Klaus,
I've not updated coz I'm super busy with half-a-dozen mind-distorting projects constantly challenging my ability to 'maintain'. The idea of down time while I sort out a new operating system ... even an hour or two ... is too terrifying.
As both Tiger and Leopard have a Quicktime 7.5.5 ... I'm wondering how to tell which is which? Or whether the Leopard Quicktime will even run on Tiger?

  • Quicktime window starts off-center

When I start a QuickTime movie, the window is off-center, such that the right and bottom edges are off the screen.  So I have to move the window (or double-click the title bar) to see the max, min, and close buttons in the upper-right.  This is in Windows 7.  Is there a way to get it to open in maximized view or at least where the entire window is visible?

A QuickTime display preference may have blown up for you.
If that's what is afoot, rebuilding the QuickTime preferences can help, although it can be a bit of a trial to track them down on the 64-bit systems.
Close any of the QuickTime Player buttons that are currently in your taskbar.
Now we need to change some view settings on the PC. (The preferences are kept in hidden folders.)
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected.
    Click OK.
Next we'll navigate to your AppData folder.
In Computer, open Local Disk C:\ or whichever drive your user documents are stored on.
    Open the "Users" folder.
Open the folder with the name of the Windows User account in which the QuickTime Player isn't displaying properly.
    Open the "AppData" folder.
Now the hunt for the QuickTime preferences begins.
    Open the "Roaming" folder.
    Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player.
If there was no QuickTime folder in \Roaming\Apple Computer\, or if the QuickTime Player still isn't displaying properly
Quit any QuickTime player buttons in the Taskbar.
Go back into the "AppData" folder.
    Open the "Local" folder.
    Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player.
If there was no QuickTime folder in \Local\Apple Computer\, or if the QuickTime Player still isn't displaying properly
Quit any QuickTime player buttons in the Taskbar.
Go back into the "AppData" folder.
    Open the "LocalLow" folder.
    Open the "Apple Computer" folder.
Do you see a "QuickTime" folder in there? If so, drag that out onto the Desktop. Now try launching the QuickTime Player.
Any of those measures help with the display problem?

  • Keynote and Quicktime stop & start not accurate

When i use Keynote, i sometimes want to have a movie play from a point other than the start and i find the start & stop control innaccurate. Is there an update coming or someone who has an answer. My particular issue is a countdown timer (.mov) which i use, and to have the precise point of the countdown is impossible to get with the slider.

If you find the original file, right-click it in Finder and open with QuickTime Player. When in QT, click Edit>Trim (cmd+T) and trim your video to selection. This seems to be a more accurate trim feature. Once done, you can File>Export and resave your video for using in Keynote.
I agree, the feature in Keynote is almost useless.

  • QuickTime Fast Start Progressive Download not Working - Help!

I can't figure this out - I have a large number of training movies created by a contractor. After uploading them to my website, I thought QT would start once a certain amount of data was downloaded. So, being new to QT, I thought that the videos should be exported with the "Prepare for Internet Streaming." checked with either "Fast Start" or "Fast Start & Compressed Header" selected. Well, I tried both and no luck. File sizes are between 8 MB and 40 MB. I discovered another site that has a 80 MB file that starts no problem, so obviously I am missing something! Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Simon

    Thanks for your purchase, Simon.
You should look at the part of my PDF that discusses QuickTime Media Links. These are text based files that will download with a click on the link and then can control the QuickTime Player application.
Your Web page layout could remain the same with these .qtl links and your QuickTime files could enter "Presentation" mode (full screen, if you like). They will launch the QuickTime Player app as the tiny .qtl file has downloaded or the .qtl download is double clicked.

  • Quicktime and start menu

i moved quicktime 7.1.3 from its default location in the start menu, and now every time i click on the shortcut, the program launches its configurator/installer and reinstalls those shortcuts in its default location.
    apple, please fix this annoyance

You need to delete all Quicktime icons and create new ones by creating shortcut to "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\quicktimeplayer.exe" (or whatever your installation path is), the new icons should be only about 600 Bytes (the old ones have about 2KiloBytes). Then this extremely silly behaviour ceases. I must say i "REALLY" appreciate the effort Apple has put into orgranizing my desktop :/.
Now i hope i can delete my account which i created only to post this message (i really like filling endless forms :/)

  • Niether iTunes nor Quicktime will start up?

I've been through **** with this installation. What happens, is:
I'll click the iTunes or Quicktime link, it says it's loading. It appears on the process list for about 3 seconds, then gos away. It doesn't flash the iTunes screen or anything.
Even if I go into program files and manually open them, nothing happens.
-I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes.
-I've tried disabling my firewall, then reinstalling.
-I've tried uninstalling K-lite Codec pack (even though i'd really like to have it >< )
-I've tried uninstalling the bonjour service/Apple updater/ect, reinstalling them, still fail.
Finally, I tried uninstalling Quicktime. I first tried Windows Uninstaller, it said "Fatal error with installation". Then, I tried an unistaller program named Tuneup, it gave me:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755."
It says "Installer", but i was trying to unistall.
Anyways, I went through and downloaded Quicktime, then tried repairing. Didn't work, I still can't run the program nor can I unistall it. :/
I know quiet a bit about computers, this is probably the first time in a year that i've had to ask for help with something like this.. I'm pretty lost. x_x
    Thanks for any help.

Okay i read through all those articles.
I used Filemon liek that guy suggested, and I get little to no errors. The only error i really got, was when i run filemon, a few of the Querys-
    C:/Program Files/Quicktime/CLBCATQ.DLL was not found.
    C:/Program Files/Quicktime/COMres.dll was not found.
    C:/Program Files/Quicktime/xpsp2res.dll was not found.
But i think thats common? Even when i run Firefox i get a lot of not foudn errors. Could you check your quicktime directory and see if those files are there?
Anyways, the program seems to start up fine (from FileMon's point of view), it gos and gos until it gets to this step of the process:
    WRITE C:/DOCUME~1/Admin/LOCALS~1/Temp/Quicktimepalyer
    Which is also,
    C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Local Settings\Temp
It says the write is successful, but the program ends there.
When I install, there's just a whole bunch of "Directory does not exist" and "File Missing" errors through FileMon. But it's like that with any installation.
If there's permission settings on the Temp folder, I don't know how to check or how to change them @_@

Head into your control panels and try to launch the QuickTime control panel. What error message do you get then? (Precise text please ... the information in the error message about where QuickTime thinks the QuickTime.cpl file lives can be of some help with diagnosing the nature of your problem.)

  • Quicktime doesnt start (process 100% cpu, never appears)

I'm having weird problems with Quicktime (and iTunes too).
When i open a .mov file in quicktime (Win XP sp2), the quicktimeplayer.exe process immediately uses 100% CPU and the user interface never appears. I have to kill the process in the taskmanager.
if i go to windows' configuration panel, and i click [Quicktime], the rundll32.exe process uses 100% cpu (this is the quicktime config screen).
When i launch itunes, the same happens.
When i open a website containing a quicktime movie in IE or Firefox -> same.
I tried reinstalling older versions of quicktime, i tried downloading the unregistered free version from apple.com, i tried the unofficial [quicktime alternative] program, and they all produce the same result.
Sometimes, after the setup is completed, i can watch .mov files, but usually only for a while, after that the problem is back.
I uninstalled all quicktime/itunes related applications before reinstalling, deleted every trace of QT stuff on my harddisk, and even registry. But the problem keeps coming back.
    Environment:
Windows XP professional SP2 (fully updated, in perfect condition)
    GeForce FX5600 videocard (latest drivers)
    3GHZ cpu / 1000MB ram
Plenty of free HD space, no spyware or any other crap, no antivirus or other programs running.
I have no idea what "triggered" this problem, maybe it was a windows update, maybe a gfxcard update, or maybe it's an overdue y2k problem.
probably unimportant note: When i say 100% cpu, i actually mean 50% but this is only because my processor uses Intel Hyperthreading.

  • ITunes/Quicktime will not start.

iTunes/Quicktime will not start. Nor will anything quicktime dependant start. (Like Adobe Go Live) I recently reformated one of my Windows PCs and reinstalled m$ windows xp pro. I begain installing nessacary software and when I was done with iTunes/Quicktime (Why the heck is it now bundled?) it would not start. Could it be a codec conflict problem? I also tried reinstalling iTunes/Quciktime and nothing changed...

    hi trackmanxs!
then i got the new quicktime and i am gettin error -1316 and -1603....someone please help
here's what we'll try first with that one.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try another careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
