Quicktime audio playing up when I multitask

Hey guys,
When I use quicktime to listen to lectures and stuff I usually have it on full scree and I multitask with other programs running such as safari, word and finder etc. When I switch from quicktime to another program (either using command + tab, or swiping on my trackpad) the audio glitches. A few times it's just paused for a quick moment as if i've muted the sound, then continues playing. Lately it's been getting worse, and it makes a static noise, or it just doesnt play the audio at all, but the video is still playing.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks

Sorry Ralph,
It didn't solve the problem.
What's happens is when I go onto a coca cola site I enter my email and password. The process shows it is working and nothing happens, just keeps on trying.
When I logged into my internet provider to delete my emails nothing comes up. Had to use another galaxy tablet which worked, no problems..
Next I enter completions where you have multy choice answer and you pick one and same with the rest of the question and all the iPad does is revert back to the in completed form.
Sorry it is so long winded I've got the latest updates on my iPad Air tried resetting it, cleaned out the cookies etc.
Thanks

  • No audio play through when uploading audio file

Hello. I have been trying to use GB '08 to upload audio files of recorded interviews. Problem is when I begin uploading, no audio plays so I can't adjust levels, etc. I've tried looking through preferences/other tools for "play through" features but can't find any. It doesn't do me any good to try to upload interviews if I can't hear them to make sure the audio quality is good enough. Can anyone help with this? Thanks!

Yes, I am importing the audio from an external recording device. I set up a basic track and then hit record but then I can't hear anything except the metronome or the timing clicks. So I have to stop it after a few minutes to check that it has recorded the audio properly - levels OK, etc. And then if the voice levels are too low or some other problem, I have to guess that I'm adjusting the input levels OK, and then I hit record again and repeat the process. I want to be able to hear the audio while I'm recording. That's what I can't seem to fix.

  • Quicktime Audio plays - no video

Have a site (www.myefa.org) that is used by MANY worldwide to learn English. The site has been active for quite a few years and has streaming video. We use Quicktime exclusively and are rethinking that decision.
After the 7.1 and higher upgrades the site's video no longer works. We have CDs to use with the site (also containing video) that do not work anymore either. The audio plays the video does not.
We have our users "downgrading" to 6.5.2 and explain that iTunes won't work. They must choose and aren't too happy about it.
The site listed above is used in school lab settings and by individuals. Many support persons (including moi) have attempted "fixing" the problem to no avail. We have performed all Troubleshooting tips given on Apple's site along with tips given in this forum...nothing seems to work, including installing 3rd party codecs.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated. If you go to the site www.myefa.org, click on Visitor, then an episode. Choose any camera icon to see video...chances are pretty good you'll hear audio but see white video.
If you do get audio and video please forward your settings to [email protected]
Thanks in advance for any assist.
    Gateway   Windows XP Pro

Well, you've given us something to ponder. Thanks for that.
I also retried the CD's we have for the site (same video taken from the CD instead of streaming after clicking on the link) and get the following:
    - the plugin was found, but an error in the plugin occurred.
    - The plugin did not initialize properly.
From the Apple/Quicktime site the message is a wee bit different:
    - An error occurred inside the plug-in on this page. (interesting that plugin is hyphenated here).
Again, all help is welcome and I appreciate your response.

  • QuickTime only plays videos when the program itself is started

    Hi there.
When I open a file in QuickTime and the program hasn't been started before, everything works like a charm. Do I close the video then, though, and try to open another one while the program itself is still running in the background, then it won't do anything. Only if I close QuickTime once again, I can open a new file with it.
The problem exists as of recently foremost and is getting quite annoying. I hope someone else got the same problem or at least an idea how to solve it.
    Greetings,
    Daniel

The problem exists as of recently foremost and is getting quite annoying. I hope someone else got the same problem or at least an idea how to solve it.
If using QT X, have you tried deleting any/all of the erroneously created individual QT X Player PLIST files or tried using the QT 7.6.3 Player to see if it has the same problem?

  • HT1539 Digital copy transferred from DVD has no audio played back via Apple TV

I have successfully redeemed and transferred the digital copy from a DVD into iTunes. Both the video and audio play perfectly when I play the .m4v file using QuickTime Player. The video plays perfectly, but there is no audio when the movie plays via my Apple TV. My TV is not muted. Every other file in my iTunes library, including movies and music and no matter the source, play back with audio just fine. The only file that doesn't play with audio via my Apple TV is this digital copy that I redeemed and transferred into iTunes. Any idea what my problem might be?

Apple Support Communities solved my problem thanks to member Winston Churchill.
My digital copy of Skyfall transferred from the DVD into iTunes and viewed via my Apple TV on my HD TV would display the video with great clarity and resolution but the audio would not play.
Per his suggestion I visited the Settings icon on my Apple TV. I changed the "audio out" setting from "auto" to "16-bit" and this fixed my problem.
Thanks to Mr. Churchill for solving my problem with his brilliant suggestion.

  • Can I have music played automatically when my web site opens?

I have gotten as far as placing an audio clip on my "about me" page but it seems to require hitting play in order to hear it. Is there a way to have the audio played automatically when the web site comes up? Also can you have it continue to all of the pages? Or is there some other stuff I am missing??

  • Ipad background audio from video when multitasking

    Hello.
This is a request if people can either feedback On their present experience or try this out themselves first and feedback.
I have an ipad 1. When ever i try to get background audio to play from video when multitasking in another app, eg safari, from any video app including plex, airvideo, vlc,  and the original apple video app. All that occurs is that the icon changes to the ipod and a random song is played from my music library instead of the audio from the video i was watching. This does not matter if the video file is streamed or stored on the ipad itself.
There is one slight and occasional proviso to this, as at times if the video file is tagged in itunes as 'music' rather than 'movie' or 'tv show' etc then it does on occasions work, and on occasions youtube videos will play in the background. But most of the time these aspects also dont function int he background with the ipod icon instantly replacing which ever video app icon i tried to use in the background.
Now my sons iphone 4 manages to function correctly and always plays video in the background when multitasking.
I have asked this question before on this forum, with no response, so booked a visit to my local genius bar. Where they checked my ipad and agreed it wasnt working as ios should, then interestingly they attempted to do the same on an ipad 2 and it failed to work in exactly the same way.  Their response was that this was obviously a fault of the ipad ios, possibly due to the ipad having a separate video app where as the iphone has video within its generic ipod app.
I did the usual by informing apple via of this bug through the feedback system, and requested that the genius bar do the same. But having thought about this, and failed to see any other users on this forum who are also puzzled at this lack of what i think is an important function, i wonder if this means that i am the only one who likes to listen to video when im browsing, so dont need it, or wether everyone elses ipads function as ios should do, and for some reason both my ipad, and the ipad 2 tested in the shop are at fault.
So can i request if others reading this can have a go to see if their ipad will play background audio from video when multitasking, or if the same problem occurs.
Thanks very much this is really appreciated.

Oops clicked the wrong button, I meant to click a 'helpful answer' as it  hard to have a correct answer to such a question.
    But thanks for the replies.
It looks like this is a bug in ios solely for the ipad, as it does work fine on the iphone  although wonder which way the ipod touch will perform. interestingly it looks like i may also be in the minority of wishing to listen to video files as I browse:)
Which probably means apple may never get around to sorting it, as no one else uses the function.
Anyway thanks for the replies, if any one else wants to see the bug have a go and comment, i find it funny how I seem to be the only one to have found it to date.

  • TS2289 Audio in iMovie 11 files but missing in sections when shared to iDVD. The movie and audio plays fine in iMovie but my burned iDVD  movie is missing some audio .

I imported a movie into iMovie 11 from a Canon Vixia HFR 300 SD card with no problem. I have a new iMac running OsX 18.8.4 I think. I added chapter markers and shared it with iDVD. And burned it to a DVD.  Towards the end of this 30 minute movie the sound just stops. I do remember some screen came up when I wanted to burn DVD that said something was wrong with files but I couldn't figure what do to fix it and allowed me to continue. Any ideas?

    Hi
Either the problem is in iMovie or in iDVD
    two notes
    No Audio in iMovie
Most common origin is use of audio from iTunes.
    Work around -
    • Select needed audio to one new playlist
    • Copy out this as an Audio-CD .aiff (not .mp3)
    • Use this in the movie-project
    Other origins are
    1. strange / alient file formats as -
    • .mp3, .avi, .wmv etc
    • Convert them into .aiff 48kHz 16-bit and use this
    2. the Mac is set wrongly in regard of midi -
    • Close iMovie and other programs
    • Start GarageBand
    • Make a new GB-project and play some notes
    • Close GB and Save
    • Now try iMovie again
    3. No audio when playback in iMovie 1 to HD 6.
    a. in iMovie pref. - deselect ” Playback via Camera”
    b. in System preferences - see that Audio out is not set to zero. Mine often does this
    without me knowing why.
    4. iMovie’08 & 09 & 11
    • Toggle audio-scimming by cmd-K
    Stuttering audio and video
    1. FileVault is ON - Turn it off
    2. More than 50 audio files in a movie-project
Mix down to one audio clip
    3. Project is stored on one (USB) external hard disk - should be a FireWire one
    4. the External hard disk is not Mac OS Extended formatted - but
UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange and this will not work for Video.
    5. To little free space on internal boot hard disk.
I go for a minimum of 25Gb free space when project is imported and edited and this goes for
4x3 SD Video. For 16x9 HD my guess would be about 5 times more at least.
Neither Mac OS, iMovie or iDVD can address any other hard disk than the boot drive for it’s
scratch files. (Unlike Final Cut Express/Pro where You select scratch disk/s)
    6. Network storage - DOESN’T WORK
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    Minuscular - - 176x144

    Large - - - - - - 720x540    960x540
    HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In

Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
•OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • No Audio in Quicktime 7.7.4, but Quicktime Trailers play fine.

I have no audio, but picture is fine in Quicktime 7.7.4 on Windows XP.I have tried everything I can think of. Uninstalled every single Apple program and reinstalled, still no audio. Tried earlier versions of Quicktime, still no audio. Uninstalled Itunes and re-installed, still no audio. Audio plays fine in every other program, website, it just doesn't play in any quicktime videos. The video part plays fine, just no sound. I've checked all volume levels and nothing is on mute. I've ran codec programs to check and make sure no codecs are corrupt, still no audio. Any help? I have an AMD Athlon Windows XP with Nvidia audio drivers.

    Howdy Brian,
I found the perfect article to help troubleshoot the lack of audio when you play movies in Quicktime. Its named iTunes and QuickTime for Windows: Audio does not play or plays incorrectly and can be found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1362.

  • I make videos using my go pro hd camera, but when i export it only half of my 3 min video shows up with the audio playing in the background, plus when i try to select the quality in the export options it won't let me select 720p or 1080p?????? help!!!

i make videos using my go pro hd camera, but when i export it only half of my 3 min video shows up with the audio playing in the background, plus when i try to select the quality in the export options it won't let me select 720p or 1080p?????? help!!!

What you could do now is break up your video into smaller parts and render them out, then assemble them again as a whole.
I know this is not the best fix, but it might work.
You can duplicate an edit in the main screen, then delete the last bits and export,
do the same for the other half.
Then import the two bits (or more if you need) in a new edit.
Out of curiosity, can you post what format the video is in?
Copy a video straight from the camera to your computer.
Open it in Quicktime player, and with out playing type Apple + i
or Control + i for PCs
It should tell you lots of info about the video, and might help us to see what is wrong.
This is what it looks like:

  • Audio portion stops when playing movie

The audio portion of my movie stops playing. I have remade the movie and the disc several times.  There is no indication, prior to watching it on TV, that there is a problem.  The burn is successful and when I open the file the movie plays fine on the computer.  I don't know if the way I have made the movie is contributing to the problem.  Obviously, I'm new to this so please bear with me if I'm giving too much information.  I have a total of four clips (movies?) that I bring into the idvd menu.  Three of the clips are based on months throughout the year.  The fourth clip is a combination of those three so that I have an undivided movie of the whole year.  I guess I'm questioning whether the reuse of the pictures and music make a difference even though they are independent clips.
I'm using imovie and idvd 11.
Do you have any suggestions as to why the music quits and/or how I can solve this most frustrating and time-consuming problem?  Thank you.

  • Can 2, 3 QT audio clips play sequentially when embedded in a Keynote page?

In Keynote, can I embed 2 or 3 (4?) QuickTime audio clips into one separate Keynote page/slide and have each clip play in its proper sequence?
    The background:
I am making (for a friend) a Keynote presentation (on taxes) which will be exported in QuickTime to Youtube. Instead of making ONE audio clip per page/slide, I am making 2 or 3 separate clips in order to cut down the time involved in redoing the whole voice-over when my friend makes a mistake. He is not a professional speaker and gets stuck sometimes. When he has gone a certain length of time and has done well and comes to a logical break in thought, I just stop the recording. That way if he makes a mistake in the next recording, he doesn't have to start from the beginning again.
This morning I woke up thinking about it and realized that if all goes the way it would unless I do something extra, all two or three or four audio clips that I embed on a page will all begin playing at the same time! So I figure to avoid that, I can “program” each clip to start after a certain number of seconds.
Please advise. This tax presentation means a lot to my friend and it is important.
    Thank you,

If each of the audio clips is a separate audio file (track) then each can be played as Build-in (Start Audio) either on a Click or Automatically. Thus, each can be "synchronized" with its associated graphic image by having the audio and graphic Builds occur simultaneously.
Remember: If you are scheduling an Automatic Build, the actual Duration you specify in the Build menu depends the processor speed of the playback computer, so if the timing is critical, you need to confirm this on the playback machine.
    Good luck.

  • Browsers won't play sound when playing audio

Everything was working fine with my iMac until some time today. I have the standard iMac and an Edirol FA-66 Firewire audio capture.
At some point today, the Mac decided that it was going to send all of the sound streaming through my web browsers (Safari and Firefox) to the Edirol. Everything else - iTunes and so on - plays fine through the iMac speakers.
I have been into System Preferences and the Audio menu and made sure that the output is selected to built-in speakers.
I have shut down the computer and unplugged the Edirol. When I reboot the browsers simply produce no output. I know they are still playing the audio because I can capture it with software like Audio Hijack.
When I reconnect the Edirol, the audio plays through that.
It would seem that some piece of software has possibly hijacked the audio from the browsers and is overriding System Preferences to send the audio to the Edirol (or nothing, when the Edirol isn't plugged in) but I have no idea what that software is.
I have recently installed the MPlayer and a Quicktime plugin to play AVI files but that was a couple of days ago and things worked fine with the browers afterwards.

    Hello,
You might try launching Garage Band and play a few notes in there. Then, close it and see how things sound.
Garage Band restores many sound settings to their original settings. So, while I've never used it for this particular symptom, it couldn't hurt to try it.
Also, there are additional audio settings in the utility "Audio MIDI Setup" in the Applications --> Utilities folder on your hard drive. So, you might check your settings in there as well.
    I hope this helps.

  • Audio Disruption / Skipping When Multitasking

Hello. I occasionally DJ over the internet. I have been saving my bucks to buy a MacBook Pro and update the 3 year old technology from my Powerbook. I have noticed that when I am playing music locally on my new MBP, the audio occasionally "skips" when I change windows. My PB did not have this issue and I am upset that the newer faster computer is. It seems like it is having a hard time multitasking.
Also, when I run the program "Second Life" my entire system freezes up. I have found forums on the Second Life website talking about Apple having river issues with the graphics card, but that they have yet to address it. Apparently WoW has the same issue. This is SO frustrating. I feel like my PB was the super computer now.

I had FIOS TV installed yesterday and had this exact problem today.  Called tech support and they suggested it was a splitter or loose connection and they set up a service appointment.
After the call I checked all connections and all was fine.  Figuring that all the IP related content  (i.e., multi-room dvr) passes through the router, I did a remote reboot and everything is now fine (no more skipping on HD content).

  • I have windows XP. I have a DVD that I was told was made in MOV. I have tried and tried to down load quicktime to play it, but all I can get is audio. It brings up the opening picture of the video then it stops there and plays the audio fine.

I have windows XP with 32bit. I have a DVD that I was told was make in MOV. file. I have down loaded and unloaded Quicktime several times and it is always the same. The audio plays fine, but the only video I get is the opening frame of the video and it stops there, but the audio goes ahead and plays?  Any ideas??

    It should play in QuickTime.
Try dragging the file from the mounted DVD to the desktop (it will copy). It may playback properly.
