Quicktime Broadcaster and baseline H.264/AVC

Is there any way to force QT Broadcaster to encode to baseline profile when encoding H.264?
PowerMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Has anyone been able to create a iPod Video compliant video recording from QuickTime Broadcaster?
Don't believe Broadcaster accesses the "baseline" H.264 profile required for iPod compatibility. Use the "Movie to MPEG-4" export/share option to create "custom" iPod compatible files in QT or use a third party utility with user settings. You can also try any of the dedication QT conversion options but files will likely be much larger.

  • Quicktime Broadcaster and Leopard - no audio

I use Quicktime Broadcaster a few times a week for a contract I have. Everything worked fine as of Friday morning. After the upgrade to Leopard, I noticed that the app would no longer encode the audio of video. This only occurs on a MacBook Pro. An old PowerBook works sort of OK, but not perfect, have some other issue as well. I booted into a back-up of my previous set-up, and all works as it should.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I have looked everywhere, and do not see any errors in the logs to help troubleshoot. All settings look OK. I can record audio with Audacity, but not Quicktime Broadcaster.

This does not seem to work for the live stream, only the locally archived stream has the audio. Am I missing something? A setting I am unaware of?

  • Quicktime Broadcaster - getting it online

I'm trying to work out how to stream my webcam live onto my website.
I have installed QTSS and Quicktime Broadcaster, and managed to set it up so it can be viewed around my home, but I have no idea how to get it out and onto the internet or embed it into my site (after a LOT of searching Google).
    Can anyone explain?

We were using two Canopus ADVC110 Video converters as I have medical use which is allowed for these devices. This is also the reason I cannot use other video converters at the moment. We were streaming H.264 only as plain MPEG4 would not have met our bandwidth restrictions without serious danger of massive dropouts. (A different story, not QuickTime's fault.)
With a Testbild (bars and tone) I actually didn't have a problem, even for prolonged periods. Maybe because the Testbild was came from the SONY betacam we used. Quality was nothing short of stunning. With the ultrasonic echo-scanner image locked I experienced problems with the upstream breaking after a few minutes. Maybe also because this stream was video only.
I'll try and experiment with UDP upstreaming if that helps with the disconnects.

  • Quicktime broadcaster getting a timeout error.

    Greetings,
I have setup quicktime broadcaster and feel that I have everything running properly however when I try to connect to my broadcast via the internet I get an open quicktime window showing "waiting for media" with a count up to 8 then back to 0 before it shows "Timed out".
I have tried using TCP and UDP but the condition persists.
I opened up ports 554 and 7070 neither of which is blocked.
Port mapping directs those ports to the server via airport extreme.
I get no error messages on the server
If I try to connect by using rtsp://mywebsite.com/link.sdp I get "waiting for media" with a the timeout message in the white quicktime window with the blue quicktime logo.
If I try to connect by via rtsp://mywebsite.com:80, a black quicktime window opens and it says disconnected.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello Lynn,
    Thanks for your help
With the P2-4x-4k40 camera file, I get a warning that the camera file does not support the IMAQ device I have selected (see attached pics)
If I click on yes to add the interface, I get an error saying there was a problem and end up with an empty camera file
I've found I can load the Dalsa P2-2x-2k40 camera file and it 'works' if I turn down the width to 1024, in that it doesn't time out.  I do get a completely black image though.
According to the specsheet this camera has four taps but there's only two set up in the camera file and it doesn't seem to be possible to change it.

  • Quicktime Broadcaster with still image

    Hello.
I run an internet radio station (www.chapmanradio.com) using Quicktime Broadcaster and QTSS. I want to add a still image of our station's logo to the stream instead of just audio. From what I've read, Quicktime Broadcaster can only use a live video source like a camera. Does anybody know if this is true? Or if there's a way to get around it and broadcast a still image?
    Thanks in advance.

If you can find the old iSight now long sold out or a DV firewire camera you should be able to point it at the screen and narrate as you do stuff.

  • Send Mac streaming audio (Quicktime Broadcaster)

I am using QuickTime Broadcaster and I have a streaming audio to the audio currently being played in the mac (not the microphone, not the line input) if not the audio currently being played by the mac, but I did not know how to do this, can someone help me? thanks in advance

The audio found on a CD is recorded using 44.1 kHz.
Your DV camera records at 48 kHz only because that is the setting used in .dv files.
It's a waste of bandwidth to use such a high setting. Heck. You probably don't even need "stereo".

  • Quicktime Broadcaster H.264 Configuration

    Hey,
Does anyone have any knowledge of how to configure H.264 settings in Quicktime Broadcaster?
The specs on www.apple.com/quicktime/broadcaster/specs.html say it supports both H.264 Baseline profile and H.264 Main profile, but the software only gives "H.264" as an option (the "Options" button greys out when you select H.264), and it is putting out a H.264 "Main profile" stream.
Does anyone know how to switch this over to a H.264 "Baseline profile" stream?
I'm running QT Broadcaster 1.5.3 under MacOS 10.5.7 with Quicktime Pro 7.6.2.
    Thanks!

After many conversations with Apple representatives, I don't believe Baseline encoding is possible in QuickTime Broadcaster at this point, sorry. I would be interested in this feature too! Too bad they don't seem terribly concerned with updating the software.
In the forums for Wowza Streaming Server (link: http://www.wowzamedia.com/forums/showpost.php?p=20815&postcount=29), someone has claimed success using VLC to live encode to baseline profile, using the following settings:
    venc=x264{keyint=25,nocabac,level=3.0,qpmax=36,qpmin=10,me=hex,merange=24,subme= 9,qcomp=0.6},vcodec=x264,vb={VB},width={SIZEW},height={SIZEH},acodec=mp4a,ab={AB},channels=2
Haven't had a chance to try it out myself, but VLC is certainly flexible enough to accomplish this. (Whether it do so reliably is another matter...)

  • Separate audio and  video inputs for Quicktime Broadcast?

I want to produce some real time streaming via Quicktime Broadcast. My audio will be coming from a Mackie mixer with firewire interface, the video will be coming from my video switcher which has a firewire output. Will I be able to combine the audio and video firewire feeds in the computer (or software), or must I combine the audio and video into one firewire feed before it hits the computer?
    Thanks!
    Rob Cook

I just did my first feed Monday night. I used a video mixer and Mackie board myself. I feed the audio and video(component) into my DSR-20 VCR, which I also use for a tape backup recording. This then feeds the QT Broadcaster. I don't think you can feed anything but a firewire machine or iPhoto camera into Broadcaster. Might work with an USB camera/vcr???
I feed H.264 video, at 320x240 with mono 16 bit audio. Hint... don't do disolves, as they increase the frame rate. simple cuts-only seems to be the best. We also fed keynote slideshow into switcher... carefull there, as it produces saturated colors that will effect the signal... the switcher will think the super saturated video is sync and glitch the video. red is the worst, of course. Next week I am going to use a little proc amp to drop the chroma a bit.

  • Quicktime Broadcaster 1.5 and Darwin Streaming Server 5.5

Since i upgraded to Quicktime Broadcaster 1.5 (as i want to use H264) i can't use any more the Automatic Unicast (Announce). It says 'Broadcast error disconnected (-3285). I updated to Darwin Streaming Server 5.5 (on SuSE 9.1 Linux on a hired server with 2 IP's, one binded to DSS, the other to Apache to enable Streamin over port 80) but it doesn't help. I tried with Wirecast instead and everything workes fine (at least it created the .sdp file correctly) so i don't think the problem is in the Streaming Server Set up. Anyone has experienced something similar with the new Broadcaster?

We use 10.3.9 server here on three different machines. Two of the three disconnect from Broadcaster after about half an hour, with the -3285. The third system will not even allow a connection to start, ever. I am thinking that the automatic unicast file has a permissions issue. All of the three servers have Open Directory enabled. I want to turn it off, but I am not sure what will happen to the rest of the server's abilities if I do. Does anyone run in an Open Directory disabled configuration?

  • Nokia 5230 and H.264/AVC playback issues

    Hi guys
Can someone please tell me which H.264/AVC profiles do Nokia 5230/5530/5800/N97/X6 play?
    Thank you!

    ok;
    I've found this:
"The problem is that the Real Player itself is not able to handle MPEG4 part 10 profile (also called H264 or AVC).
I wish the Real Player could do this, because you can get a high quality videos with small file size using low bitrates.
It plays only MPEG4 part 2 profile (also called ASP, similar to H263).
    My conclusions are:
    1. The device itself will be able to play H264/AVC given the proper software (The Core Player upcoming version?).
    2. The website is too enthusiastic and made a mistake in stating that 5800 can play H264/AVC out of the box. :-["

So i suppose same is the case with 5230.

  • Streaming Audio A2DP and Airport solutions or Quicktime Broadcaster...

    Hi everyone,
(first post for me, I hope this is not the wrong place for this)
So here it is : another topic about audio streaming, sorry about that.
What I want to do : Since all my music is on my Macbook with Leopard, I want to be able to stream less or more in real time some audio from iTunes, and maybe later if possible audio from movies or else outside iTunes. The stream has to be played on my stereo speakers that are currently plugged on my desktop Windows computer.
I know there is couple of solutions for that, and here is what I tried :
The airport express was the first easy thing, worked quite good but couple of things could have been better :
    - This imply that you put on your network a 54G device (trying to avoid that to go fully N)
    - You can not really use something that is not on itunes (Airfoil enables it, but still limitations) About that I ll be glad to hear from you if someone tried to stream from a movie with that - issues with a/v sync?, etc..
Then I thought about using A2DP, but the Leopard support seams not reliable, so I did not try to buy an A2DP receiver - that has an audio output for your speakers. There is couple of them on the market (http://sonyfanboy.wordpress.com/2007/05/27/new-sony-a2dp-bluetooth-receiver-tdm- bt1/), but some reports indicate that the sound is bad, the range is poor, and it interferes with the wifi. - any comments on that would be appreciated! - also - do you have an a/v sync if you play a video this way?
The third solution is the one I am using for now. Not perfect, but the better for me so far:
I am using a combination of Quicktime Broadcaster, Soundflower and Soundsource to create a virtual sound card that stream everyhing that is sent to it. On the other side my desktop computer receives the stream via either Vlc or Quicktime.
This works quite well since everything goes through the existing network (My desktop has a 100mb link to my router). I had to look for the right settings for quite a while, and sometime Quicktime broadcaster has strange behavior (stops responding while launching or closing, or when starting or stopping the broadcast). But once it is launched and broadcasting, it is solid - the broadcast can sometimes be on for couple of days without me noticing it. Since I am using vbr, the stream is going down to about 15Kb/s when no sound is played on the macbook.
Still, It would be nice to have a solution that is more flexible, maybe with no latency to watch movies, and maybe something that does not need my pc to be started and to run a client to play the stream.
So I am looking for some insights about similar solutions : maybe one of this internet radios that would pick up the broadcast, but also that would output the sounds on external speakers.
That s it, I am done typing. Sorry for my English and this (too long) post. Again, comments appreciated.
The problem remains here the latency (at least one second even with all cache or buffer turned down) - so you can not stream the audio of a movie that you watch on a wireless device.

  • Quicktime Broadcaster Play quick time movie

Can Quicktime Broadcaster play a .mov video file... or can it only use camera inputs?
CamCamX has the ability to play video as if it were the isight camera... but this software is more than I need. I just need to play one video through Broadcaster.
I want to use broadcaster as opposed to the server because most days I do a live broadcast through broadcaster. On days that i do not I just want to play a prerecorded file. But my viewers will come to the same link so I want to use the same application.

The file must meet the following specifications to play correctly.
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
    -or-
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats.
You may need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • H.264/AVC Encode

    Hiya,
we all know our video guru el_loco whom I have known a long time and who helped me two consecutive years to get MY PHONE. This process is based on him.
    Our N95 8GBs are HW accelerated for 640X480 REZ'd MPEG4/MP4s and 320X240 REZ'd H.264/AVCs.
I personally prefer H.264/AVC over MP4 just because it is bit clearer and well saturation level.
So, I have been trying to find out which converter does its best to convert **bleep** to good H.264s.
So, I use Videora iPod Converter.
    It uses internet occasionally.
When you open it;to avoid so many confusions directly create a new profile.
    Name it anything you like.
    And the settings are:
    It goes in this way:
    Settings>New Profile
    General: Profile Name
    iPod 1-pass-ffPPEGVNB
    Video>General>H.264, Baseline Profile, Level 1.3
(Lets keep General2, and general3 untouched)
    Bitrate:
    ABR
512(it is enough for me, but there is another option-576, if you want more experiment try it, but leave 768 or higher)
    Max resolution:320x240
Audio: as you wish, but 64 AAC-LC is enough for me.
    Thanks.
    Any correction, el_loco welcome.

    Hi,
Just some clarification so I don't continue wasting hours encoding video!
I've been trying for ages to get H.264 working on my phone at 640x480 resolution. So if I'm understanding this post correctly, the N95 can't go above 320x240 for H.264??
Don't get me wrong: MPEG-4 looks awesome on the N95 handset, but H.264 would be much, much better for tv-out...
And can it still support H.264 using widescreen resolutions below 320x240?
    Thanks,
    Jessica

  • Quicktime Broadcaster on iBook Clamshell (G3-466Mhz-FireWire-520MB) ?

    All,
Not sure if this is the right place to post that - can't find any other...
    I have an opportunity to acquire an iBook Clamshell or a good price. It has 466MGZ, 512MB RAM, 8MB Vid, and a 10GB HD - Model M6411;
I want to use it to run Quicktime Broadcaster to live encode video from a FW device; The hardware requirements on the broadcater homepage are PPCG3 - 128MB - but they recommend intel or G5 for H.264 encoding. I know for afact that a G4 1.2 is enough to do it.. ;but what about the G3 specs ...?
    any idea or advice ?
    thanks
    laurent

If you used QuickTime 6 and Sorenson Video you might squeak by.
QuickTime 7 and H.264 wouldn't work on that CPU.
You could barely even view H.264 encoded files on that machine let alone create them in "real time".

  • How to play MPEG 4 (h.264 / AVC) videos that were encoded for the PSP

    Hello,
I am trying to play a video in MPEG 4 (h.264 / AVC) format (file extension .mp4) that was encoded to play on the Sony PlayStationPortable (480x272) via QuickTime. The video plays perfectly via VideoLAN, mplayer or the PSP, but QuickTime only opens a black screen without any error message.
I am using the most current version of QuickTime on WindowsXP or Windows Vista. I have the same problem on either system.
Can anybody tell me how to resolve that problem? I do not want to reencode the videos, though.

    QuickTimeKirk,
My goal is to create a looping animation for playback on an iPod. Should be easy right? Not with the QT!
    I did the following:
    1) Render a bunch of frames destined for looping.
    2) Convert them to an uncompresses ".avi" file.
    3) Open the ".avi" file in QT Pro.
    4) Click "Loop"
    5) Play movie. It loops nicely.
    6) Click "Export" and select "Movie to QuickTime Movie"
    7) Click "Save"
When I play the saved ".mov" file (You said QT retains the metadate requiring looping) IT DOES NOT LOOP!
To recap: This is a Quicktime movie. I selected looping when I created the bloody thing.
    It
    does
    not
    loop.
    This *****.
This is REALLY, REALLY, ANNOYING! *** is going on with this QT Pro crap? I simply want to loop the movie. Is that really asking too much? I don't think so.
Can someone, anyone, please, please, tell me how to force the movie to loop on launch. Forcing an iPod user to muck about and select looping (can they even do that?) is not an option. Period.
    Please help me,
    Doug
