More broadcasting and streaming info in  this Apple download.
If you need a streaming server (SS) and want a free one, the open source version of QT SS is available at the Darwin Streaming Server site.
Finally, here are a narrative tutorial and a video tutorial that may give you some more ideas on how to stream using your Mac over your LAN.
QT Broadcaster and QTSS are professional apps that are very powerful.  However some users find them less user friendly than commercial video monitoring apps such as EvoCam or Security Spy.  If you have much difficulty with the free QT solutions, consider the commercial alternatives.

  • Quicktime Streaming Server will not accept Quicktime Broadcaster connection

I am running Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard server on a parallels virtual machine on my Mac Pro. Since the parallels server cannot "see" the video camera and microphone since it is parallels, i want to stream from Quicktime Broadcaster from the host Mac Pro to the QSS. I have tried everything from Sunday and i keep getting a Disconnected (-3285) error. I have set the login password in server admin, i have used the web based management option, i have created relays and then deleted them, i have used the Quicktime Administrator's manual and have gone in through the Terminal to adjust the password, and so on. My goal is to stream from the host to the QSS server so that i can host a webcast to multiple users who would go in through rtp in QUicktime. nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Just to add to this. I followed several instructions in the Administration guide for both OSX and Darwin. I went into the qtusers file and verified that the username that i want to use to broadcast was in there. It was. I went into the qtgroups file and made sure that there was a group called broadcaster and there was. i also added a group called admin and added another username and made sure that was in qtusers as well. I followed the steps to create a qtaccess file and put a copy in the default media folder. i also tried having broadcaster send its mystream file right onto the server's. I know that QTSS is talking to QTB because it does request a username and password. I put the ones that are in the config files in there over and over again and it does not work...

  • Quicktime Broadcaster won't let me broadcast

I have an iBook G3 running Mac OS 10.3.9 and I am getting video from the iSight camera fine but when I try to broadcast, I get this irritating audio squeal and "Broadcaster Error: Connection Failed (-5420)". What could be wrong?

I also occasionally get error 5420 but I think that was due to closed firewall ports. Right now I'm testing with the firewall disabled on my DSS server and am getting prompts for username and password. I have tried credentials for the server, for the broadcaster login, and the ones I set for DSS (set and reset) with no changes.
I've tested the sample movies and the DSS streams from files fine; I just can't get broadcaster to connect. Broadcaster is set for Automatic Unicast with the hostname, username and password fields filled in before I click Broadcast.
Has anyone else encountered this? I'm on the same local network, but the broadcaster is wireless. Has anyone else successfully broadcast over WiFi?
    Thank You!

  • Darwin Streaming Server & Quicktime Broadcaster Problems

recently upgraded to Darwin Streaming Server 5.5, and am having difficulty with it. I keep getting the following error when I try to change the settings under the Broadcaster sidebar menu item.
    Error - Perl execution failed
Can't call method "state" on an undefined value at /Library/QuickTimeStreaming/AdminHtml/parse_xml.cgi line 1365.
The line that this error references is:
    if (($broadcasterConn->state = 0) && ($theAction eq 'SaveBroadcasterSettings')) {
Additionally, If I select "Broadcast" in QuickTimeBroadcaster, I am presented with this error:
    Connection Failed (-5420)
I have not experienced these errors with the previous version, which I uninstalled. When I reinstalled DSS I received a "Successfully Install" Message.
And...for what its worth, this is the version of perl I am using:
This is perl, v5.8.6 built for darwin-thread-multi-2level
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

We use 10.3.9 server here on three different machines. Two of the three disconnect from Broadcaster after about half an hour, with the -3285. The third system will not even allow a connection to start, ever. I am thinking that the automatic unicast file has a permissions issue. All of the three servers have Open Directory enabled. I want to turn it off, but I am not sure what will happen to the rest of the server's abilities if I do. Does anyone run in an Open Directory disabled configuration?

  • "Quicktime Broadcaster quit unexpectedly", "Precondition Failed (412)"

We are trying to do a live webcast of our church service through a 3rd party QTSS host company. On our end when you press "broadcast" it will go through pre-rolling, but when it goes to broadcast mode the program crashes and gives an error, "The application Quicktime Broadcaster quit unexpectedly."
If you relaunch the application it gives you a "Broadcaster Error - Precondition Failed (412)". The audio and video feed is coming into the computer through a AJA Kona LHe breakout box and card. Broadcaster lists all its settings as options and you can see the video in the preview window. I plugged in a simple dv camera by firewire and had the same experience.
Does anyone use Broadcaster with a breakout box etc., not sure if Kona isn't compatible or something?
A mac laptop has been plugged in using the same internet connection and used iSight and worked fine.
We have another G5 that I put broadcaster on and used a simple dv camera to make sure that there was not a network, firewall, or 3rd part server issue and it worked fine, but this computer isn't in the control room and doesn't have the audio and video feeds from the service to be of use.

  • Quicktime Broadcaster: Only with OS X Server?

Talk about austerity! I have what must be the simplest set-up. PowerMac G5, 12 Mbps cable connection (ethernet), iSight, and QT Broadcaster. The sum of that is that I immediately get a 5420 cannot connect to server error. There is nothing in QTBB Help, and I find nothing by searching Apple's support files. I don't even find anything that could qualify as instructions on how to use the application.
Does it work only with the $500 OS X Server?

  • 'Connection Failed' msg when trying to connect my TX to wifi

I have a Palm TX that I bought used. The seller said it was in good order (she bought an iPhone), everything else works on it, my router is a Linksys and is working properly for the laptop. I have been on the phone and live chat with Palm support (they say they can't help). I have read the major posts about common problems (by Wyrenut, I think and on brighthand). I have done a soft reset and a hard reset with no change.
HELP! The TX picks up the signal and shows our SSID. We use WPA-PSK and I've entered the key code several times and I'm sure it's correct. The TX also will pick up signals elsewhere, such as hotels and restaurants, but still says 'connection failed'.
Is there a way to tell if it is a hardware problem? If maybe I got a lemon? (I hope not) All else works properly. I can sync, etc.
Can anyone help? If it helps, I was told it is 2 yrs old. Also, I've emailed the seller and asked if the wifi connection was working when she last used it, but nothing yet.

MAC filtering is turned off by default in just about every router.  If you haven't turned it on, then it shouldn't be in effect.   I don't own a Linksys, but MAC filtering should be in the Wireless settings somewhere.
When you did the resets, did you test the TX immediately without a Hotsync?  If not, it may be software-related.
Are you sure the router is set to broadcast in /b mode, or "Mixed /b and /g"?  If set to "/b,/g, and /n" try backing off to just b and g, no /n.

  • Quicktime Broadcaster 1.5 and Darwin Streaming Server 5.5

Since i upgraded to Quicktime Broadcaster 1.5 (as i want to use H264) i can't use any more the Automatic Unicast (Announce). It says 'Broadcast error disconnected (-3285). I updated to Darwin Streaming Server 5.5 (on SuSE 9.1 Linux on a hired server with 2 IP's, one binded to DSS, the other to Apache to enable Streamin over port 80) but it doesn't help. I tried with Wirecast instead and everything workes fine (at least it created the .sdp file correctly) so i don't think the problem is in the Streaming Server Set up. Anyone has experienced something similar with the new Broadcaster?

We use 10.3.9 server here on three different machines. Two of the three disconnect from Broadcaster after about half an hour, with the -3285. • Using a non-firewire cam with quicktime broadcaster

I have this very nice ptz analogue video conferencing camera... worth about $2000 to tell the truth. I would love to be able to use it with quicktime broadcaster. The problem is the video output is S-video, not fire wire. Does anyone know of some sort of hardware adapter or something that can take the S-video signal and output it in such a way that will trick quicktime broadcaster into thinking that there is a firewire video cam connected?
    any suggestions would be appreciated
    G4 Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I had thought of that but I am worried that i would shell out the money for one only to find out that Broadcaster doesn't recognize it. The documentation for Broadcaster claims that it requires a firewire camera. I am wondering if anyone has had any success or failure with this?
Not a QT Broadcaster user myself, but do have v1.5 installed on my G5. On reading your query, I tested it with an old, original (unstable stabilized) Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge and newer Canopus ADVC-300 converters. Both were correctly identified by name if properly connected when QT Broadcaster application is opened. And, although "hot-swapping" the converters did not cause any problems while QT Broadcaster is running, neither did it force the software to rescan and identify the "change" in hardware device.
For the purpose of the tests Nikon digital still cameras (990 and D-70) with analog video output and a Sony camcorder with analog and digital outputs (in both tape and throughput modes) were used as the source and the output was recorded/saved as a QT movie file by QT Broadcaster. While I could only get the D-70 to output singleframes (didn't take the time to look for the book), all other sources produced much better quality than expected using the default DV to QVGA/15fps settings -- even when using an old 1930's B&W movie as the taped source.

  • Connection Failed--can anyone understand Netstat routing info?

    Folks:
Been chasing the problem of trying to get my two listed computers to connect by ethernet/Connect to Server with AFP and entering the IP address manually--which worked in 10.3.9. With 10.4.6 -- to 4.9 so far none of the Tiger OS are able to do that. I've rolled the AppleFile Server kext back to 4.8 and tried all the previous versions loaded onto an Ext HD &&& I finally ran AppleJack . . . and nothing, NADA, Nichts!! The two units "see" each other and log in window opens with my correct user name and I enter the password --the spinning beachball and then "Connection failed" or "Log iN failed" --"check the IP address and try again" but I'm looking at the DHCP generated number in the other computer . . . .
Saw That Phil Smith.com gave suggestion that perhaps this is a routing table?? problem and to run Netstat--so I ran it in my Tiger based iBook with the "Display routing table info" button checked--but I don't know what any of it might mean. Any ideas?

  • Using Echo AudioFire4 with Quicktime Broadcaster

Just purchased an Echo AudioFire4 to use as the input source for Quicktime Broadcaster on my Mac mini server.
The AudioFire4 shows up just fine in the audio source drop down and if I use either of the front panel inputs, which are inputs 1 & 2 it works.
However if I connect the source to either input 3 or 4 on the back panel it get nothing in Broadcaster. The audio shows up just fine in the AudioFire Console application. From trying the AudioFire4 with other audio applications its pretty clear that the applicaiton needs to have a place where you can choose inputs 3 &4 before you can get the audio from these inputs. So either QT Broadcaster has a place to do this I don't know about or I'm out of luck and can't use inputs 3 &4. Does anybody know of a way to make inputs 3 & 4 work with QT Broadcaster?
    Thanks
    Alan

  • Quicktime broadcaster how tosave life feed to .mov

    Hello,
after quite a bit of fiddling, I finally figure out how to stream live A/V to the internet using Quicktime broadcaster, Darwin Streaming server and Mavericks Server.
Now the last hurdle is trying to save the live feed into a file such as .mov, but I am not sure how that can be done.
In the Quicktime broadcaster, there is a check box next to the Broadcast button that says Record to disk. but it seems only record to a .sdp file. How can I record to a .mov?
    Thanks in advance.

Well good news... I've solved my own problem. So I thought I'd share my fix. As it turns out, I needed my Yamaha USB mixer... the feed just would not work internally. In the computer Preferences, my Sound Output setting is now set to "Built in audio" and piped out to my Yamaha Mixer via mini-jack to Stereo RCA cable. Next the Sound Input setting is set to the USB Codec which is the send from my Yamaha USB mixer. Then Simply iTunes outputs to the mixer via internal audio and QuickTime Broadcaster collects the audio feed via the USB connection. No more horrible feedback loops, and a steady feed that hasn't dropped out all night.
One other point, there is a buffer delay of two minutes which for some reason I forgot to take into account. So sound adjustments are slow and require quite a long wait to see if the setting adjustments requires more tweaking when listening to the feed over the internet. So a good idea is to use a good peak limiter to cap your feed.
I hope this helps someone in the future.

  • QuickTime Broadcaster

Hi I have a couple of questions regarding QuickTime Broadcaster.
First....how do even make it work.
When I select the automatic Unicast I get an error -5420 no matter what I fill out on the fields or do it over TCP.
When I select it as manual unicast I don't get any error message but any other computer inside my own network cannot see the broadcast on either the audio or video port. This brings another question. Why 2 ports and not just one? and, how do I setup both ports on the viewer QT?
My other issue is that I can only broadcast my iSight, but I want to broadcast what's going on on my desktop instead of my webcam. How do I broadcast the desktop?
Anyways. I would appreciate if somebody could educate me on how to use this program.
    Thank you. Bye.

It will work stand alone. After tinkering around and searching various discussion groups it turns our the whole problem is on the receiving end. If they have a router it has a firewall and router firewalls seems to be default configured to block the ports Broadcaster uses. By plugging the computer directly into the cable modem the broadcast got through. Maybe someone can explain this a bit better but when using Broadcaster one to one, the broadcast is being sent to that IP address only via the ports at the receiving end. Because of all the bad things people like to do when they can hack into other's computers these are blocked. So the receiving end has to open their ports to let the broadcast in. Kind of like why you close and lock the front door to your house, it keeps out the unwanted but it has to be opened to let the cat in.

  • Quicktime broadcaster getting a timeout error.

    Greetings,
I have setup quicktime broadcaster and feel that I have everything running properly however when I try to connect to my broadcast via the internet I get an open quicktime window showing "waiting for media" with a count up to 8 then back to 0 before it shows "Timed out".
I have tried using TCP and UDP but the condition persists.
I opened up ports 554 and 7070 neither of which is blocked.
Port mapping directs those ports to the server via airport extreme.
I get no error messages on the server
If I try to connect by using rtsp://mywebsite.com/link.sdp I get "waiting for media" with a the timeout message in the white quicktime window with the blue quicktime logo.
If I try to connect by via rtsp://mywebsite.com:80, a black quicktime window opens and it says disconnected.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello Lynn,
    Thanks for your help
With the P2-4x-4k40 camera file, I get a warning that the camera file does not support the IMAQ device I have selected (see attached pics)
If I click on yes to add the interface, I get an error saying there was a problem and end up with an empty camera file
I've found I can load the Dalsa P2-2x-2k40 camera file and it 'works' if I turn down the width to 1024, in that it doesn't time out.  I do get a completely black image though.
According to the specsheet this camera has four taps but there's only two set up in the camera file and it doesn't seem to be possible to change it.

  • Connection failed on Safari for Mac

I have a problem on a single site that is using Flash player to broadcast video news. Some time ago using Firefox I've got already a Connection failed error, whilst from another Mac there are no problem at the same time. Switching on Safari seemed to solve the issue as the connection issue wasn't present. Now I've got the same problem on Safari too, whilst on the other Mac everything keeps working flawlessy. I'm focusing the issue about something related to permissions as the user who has problems on that Mac has a managed profile, even though has no restrictions running applications (His dock is blocked to avoid her, a 81 years-old lady, to do a mess with the icons on it(!)), and accessing my admin profile on the same mac everything works fine with that site. I have already rebuild permissions on the disk, but no lack. OS is Leopard. Processor is Intel. Please help. Thank you.

To andy.... Sheez, thank you for pointing out the Vimeo video. I'd completely forgotten it was there. Some pages rarely get attention. They're just there.
    What are "cursor images"?
"What OS & Safari version were the problems noted with ?". Wish I could tell you, but even if I'd gotten the information first hand, I'm not sure this particular population would know the answer themselves. (They tend to be quite elderly - and I say that as a 70 year old myself - and probably still use AOL for email.) All I've been told is that several people haven't been able to get the site to work. The few mentioned whom I know do use Safari on an iMac, so I'm jumping to the conclusion that that this applies to most if not all.
Had a LOL moment when you said "the web inspector went silly." See my response to Bee about Xara Web Designer. Xara would make any web inspector want to go back to being a spell checker.
