Quicktime Broadcaster - getting it online

I'm trying to work out how to stream my webcam live onto my website.
I have installed QTSS and Quicktime Broadcaster, and managed to set it up so it can be viewed around my home, but I have no idea how to get it out and onto the internet or embed it into my site (after a LOT of searching Google).
Can anyone explain?

We were using two Canopus ADVC110 Video converters as I have medical use which is allowed for these devices. This is also the reason I cannot use other video converters at the moment. We were streaming H.264 only as plain MPEG4 would not have met our bandwidth restrictions without serious danger of massive dropouts. (A different story, not QuickTime's fault.)
With a Testbild (bars and tone) I actually didn't have a problem, even for prolonged periods. Maybe because the Testbild was came from the SONY betacam we used. Quality was nothing short of stunning. With the ultrasonic echo-scanner image locked I experienced problems with the upstream breaking after a few minutes. Maybe also because this stream was video only.
I'll try and experiment with UDP upstreaming if that helps with the disconnects.

  • Quicktime broadcaster getting a timeout error.

    Greetings,
I have setup quicktime broadcaster and feel that I have everything running properly however when I try to connect to my broadcast via the internet I get an open quicktime window showing "waiting for media" with a count up to 8 then back to 0 before it shows "Timed out".
I have tried using TCP and UDP but the condition persists.
I opened up ports 554 and 7070 neither of which is blocked.
Port mapping directs those ports to the server via airport extreme.
I get no error messages on the server
If I try to connect by using rtsp://mywebsite.com/link.sdp I get "waiting for media" with a the timeout message in the white quicktime window with the blue quicktime logo.
If I try to connect by via rtsp://mywebsite.com:80, a black quicktime window opens and it says disconnected.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello Lynn,
    Thanks for your help
With the P2-4x-4k40 camera file, I get a warning that the camera file does not support the IMAQ device I have selected (see attached pics)
If I click on yes to add the interface, I get an error saying there was a problem and end up with an empty camera file
I've found I can load the Dalsa P2-2x-2k40 camera file and it 'works' if I turn down the width to 1024, in that it doesn't time out.  I do get a completely black image though.
According to the specsheet this camera has four taps but there's only two set up in the camera file and it doesn't seem to be possible to change it.

  • How do I fix error code 401 - "unauthorized" I am taking an online class and the videos worked before, and now whenever I launch QuickTime, I get that error code.

I recently began taking an online class. We are required to watch multiple videos. I was able to watch the QuickTime videos before, but now whenever I launch the videos in QuickTime I get the Error code 401. My teacher does not know whats wrong, because I do have authorization to watch the videos, I am just not sure how to go about it.

You may try updating the same as a standalone download.

  • Quicktime Broadcaster won't let me broadcast

I have an iBook G3 running Mac OS 10.3.9 and I am getting video from the iSight camera fine but when I try to broadcast, I get this irritating audio squeal and "Broadcaster Error: Connection Failed (-5420)". What could be wrong?

I also occasionally get error 5420 but I think that was due to closed firewall ports. Right now I'm testing with the firewall disabled on my DSS server and am getting prompts for username and password. I have tried credentials for the server, for the broadcaster login, and the ones I set for DSS (set and reset) with no changes.
I've tested the sample movies and the DSS streams from files fine; I just can't get broadcaster to connect. Broadcaster is set for Automatic Unicast with the hostname, username and password fields filled in before I click Broadcast.
Has anyone else encountered this? I'm on the same local network, but the broadcaster is wireless. Has anyone else successfully broadcast over WiFi?
    Thank You!

  • Quicktime broadcaster won't work since upgrade to Tiger!

this is probably the worst experience i've had trying to get support from Apple. nothing remotely resembling my problem is anywhere in the knowledge base. here's the deal...
i used broadcaster every week prior to upgrade without any problems...NOW...i am unable to "enable video stream" since upgrading to Tiger. All I can broadcast is audio.
I EVEN have AppleCare support for my computer but Apple still won't help me!!!! I spent all day on this and need it to work TOMORROW MORNING! didn't expect any problems since it worked fine before.
    Signed,
A disappointed customer who has used Apple Computers for 20+ years!

Okay....after a few more hours I decided to reinstall Quicktime Player and then re-enter my quicktime Pro registration key. Now it works. I'm still disappointed that Apple wouldn't help me with this though. Not the service I'm used to.
So...quicktime broadcaster users be advised of this need to reinstall quicktime after upgrading to Tiger. It wasn't just my g5 that was affected...I checked it out on my g4 powerbook and also had the same problem.

  • Bad files out of QuickTime Broadcaster

I am using QuickTime Broadcaster (1.5.3, running on Mac OS X Server 10.6.8) to stream a monthly sales meeting to our employees. The stream is also saved for later viewing. It's this saved stream I'm having issues with.
The resulting QuickTime files are very difficult to deal with. QTB automatically closes a file when it gets to 2GB and starts a new one (a little more than four hours of stream, given my present settings). The first of these files will not end cleanly, but instead has a single frame repeated numerous times. Fortunately, QT Pro understands that the video actually ends at the place where these repeated frames begin, so that part is easy enough to edit out.
It's the subsequent files that have the bigger issue. There seems to be some kind of time code problem. When I try to stitch the files together in any app, including MPEG Streamclip, QuickTime Pro, or iMovie, things go haywire. For instance, if I copy the entirety of the second file to the clipboard in QT Pro, then paste it onto the end of the first file, QT Pro refuses to update the view in the viewer. Audio plays, but video doesn't. If I try to save this resulting file, I get "The movie contains an incorrect time value."
Often, I can cut out the first few seconds of the second file and it pastes OK. However, this does not always work. Anyway, I do not want to lose any time from the presentation.
This seems to happen irrespective of the video format that I've selected for streaming. Does anyone have any experience working with these files?

Error -2015 (Invalid time value) occurs when the display time of the first or last frame of the movie (or of one of the movies that you are merging) is not correctly set.
    See also: http://aeroquartet.com/movierepair/quicktime-errors
Trimming the first 3 to 5 frames, and last 3 to 5 frames will usually solve the problem.
You can also use Atom Inspector and edit the ctts table of the first trak.
By setting first and last values to 0, you end up fixing this problem.
Always do a back-up of your movie before using Atom Inspector.

  • QuickTime X does not play QuickTime Broadcaster recordings

This is a post I'm leaving for other SL upgraders who come looking for information on why their QuickTIme Broadcaster .mov files and other QuickTime files such as .m4v for iPod that don't play on QuickTime X but do play on iTunes and QT 7.
I'm finding there are compatibility issues with QT X not playing files that were created with Apple utilities such as QT Pro and Broadcaster. This has happened with both iPod .m4v and Broadcaster .mov files. Sometimes you just get a plain black window with signature Apple rounded corners and other times you get that plus audio only. YMMV
Another point of pain is that the previously viewed URL list seems to not be remembered in QT X under some conditions that I cannot reproduce easily. QT 7 picked up the list from my Leopard install just fine however.
As noted elsewhere in this discussion forum, the solution is to open the QT X player Info window and check the 32-bit mode so QT X does not take advantage of any of those features of your hardware or OS.
IMHO the idea of a clean player is fine. The implementation leaves much to be desired and at present, is a wart on an otherwise trademark excellent step in a smooth OS evolution to 64-bit by Apple SW engineers. I doubt the QT X problems are engineering ones but rather product management decisions that prevented adequate resources be but on the component. Looking forward to SL releases that make QT X as invisible in the OS as it's window borders.

For those with a similar problem, I read somewhere on the Apple forums that Metadata Hootenanny will add chapter tracks that appear correctly in QuickTime X. http://www.applesolutions.com/bantha/MH.html
I can confirm it works for me!!!! The chapter tracks show up in Metadata Hootenanny just fine, so it’s a matter of importing the file and saving it again with Chapter Track enabled. Yayayayay!

  • Using a non-firewire cam with quicktime broadcaster

I have this very nice ptz analogue video conferencing camera... worth about $2000 to tell the truth. I would love to be able to use it with quicktime broadcaster. The problem is the video output is S-video, not fire wire. Does anyone know of some sort of hardware adapter or something that can take the S-video signal and output it in such a way that will trick quicktime broadcaster into thinking that there is a firewire video cam connected?
    any suggestions would be appreciated
    G4 Dual   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I had thought of that but I am worried that i would shell out the money for one only to find out that Broadcaster doesn't recognize it. The documentation for Broadcaster claims that it requires a firewire camera. I am wondering if anyone has had any success or failure with this?
Not a QT Broadcaster user myself, but do have v1.5 installed on my G5. On reading your query, I tested it with an old, original (unstable stabilized) Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge and newer Canopus ADVC-300 converters. Both were correctly identified by name if properly connected when QT Broadcaster application is opened. And, although "hot-swapping" the converters did not cause any problems while QT Broadcaster is running, neither did it force the software to rescan and identify the "change" in hardware device.
For the purpose of the tests Nikon digital still cameras (990 and D-70) with analog video output and a Sony camcorder with analog and digital outputs (in both tape and throughput modes) were used as the source and the output was recorded/saved as a QT movie file by QT Broadcaster. While I could only get the D-70 to output singleframes (didn't take the time to look for the book), all other sources produced much better quality than expected using the default DV to QVGA/15fps settings -- even when using an old 1930's B&W movie as the taped source.

  • Quicktime Broadcaster Error -3285

Hey guys I need help. I have a Xserve and I woul like to use Quicktime Streaming, I set up the server but when go on Quicktime Broadcaster (laptop Macbook pro) and try to streaming over Automatic Unicast (announce) the software say to me ERROR 3285. Some one to know which is the best procedure.
oopps When I use the Quicktime broadcaster on Unicast and i send to server the SDP it work

I can stream all day long when I do pro webcasts on my different clients networks. But when I try to stream from home, I get Error -3285 every 10 minutes. Is it because of my Comcast cablemodem (aka Comcrash)? Does anyone know if Comcast has some sort of filter that cuts off people uploading (in my case streaming video into Secondlife)?

  • Quicktime Broadcaster: Only with OS X Server?

Talk about austerity! I have what must be the simplest set-up. PowerMac G5, 12 Mbps cable connection (ethernet), iSight, and QT Broadcaster. The sum of that is that I immediately get a 5420 cannot connect to server error. There is nothing in QTBB Help, and I find nothing by searching Apple's support files. I don't even find anything that could qualify as instructions on how to use the application.
Does it work only with the $500 OS X Server?

  • Using Echo AudioFire4 with Quicktime Broadcaster

Just purchased an Echo AudioFire4 to use as the input source for Quicktime Broadcaster on my Mac mini server.
The AudioFire4 shows up just fine in the audio source drop down and if I use either of the front panel inputs, which are inputs 1 & 2 it works.
However if I connect the source to either input 3 or 4 on the back panel it get nothing in Broadcaster. The audio shows up just fine in the AudioFire Console application. From trying the AudioFire4 with other audio applications its pretty clear that the applicaiton needs to have a place where you can choose inputs 3 &4 before you can get the audio from these inputs. So either QT Broadcaster has a place to do this I don't know about or I'm out of luck and can't use inputs 3 &4. Does anybody know of a way to make inputs 3 & 4 work with QT Broadcaster?
    Thanks

  • Using QuickTime Broadcaster with QuickTime Player

I have one computer streaming video/audio using QuickTime Broadcaster. How are you supposed to view the stream with QuickTime Player on another computer? None of the QuickTime docs says how you view a stream. I tried entering the IP address of my broadcast computer into the Open URL field, but nothing happens. I have the latest SW on everything.

Thanks. This helped, although it still didn't work. I found the solution in the help file although I still had to experiment. The description below is one way for it to work, although there are probably other ways.
To get it to work from one computer to another, you have to export from the QTB an sdp file. This file gets stored on the viewing computer. On the QTB computer, on the Network tab, the IP address needs to be the viewing computer's IP. Once broadcasting, the QT Player on the viewing computer opens the sdp file. It should then work. If anything on QTB get changed (MPEG-4, etc), you need to export another sdp file.

  • QuickTime Broadcaster

Hi I have a couple of questions regarding QuickTime Broadcaster.
First....how do even make it work.
When I select the automatic Unicast I get an error -5420 no matter what I fill out on the fields or do it over TCP.
When I select it as manual unicast I don't get any error message but any other computer inside my own network cannot see the broadcast on either the audio or video port. This brings another question. Why 2 ports and not just one? and, how do I setup both ports on the viewer QT?
My other issue is that I can only broadcast my iSight, but I want to broadcast what's going on on my desktop instead of my webcam. How do I broadcast the desktop?
Anyways. I would appreciate if somebody could educate me on how to use this program.
    Thank you. Bye.

It will work stand alone. After tinkering around and searching various discussion groups it turns our the whole problem is on the receiving end. If they have a router it has a firewall and router firewalls seems to be default configured to block the ports Broadcaster uses. By plugging the computer directly into the cable modem the broadcast got through. Maybe someone can explain this a bit better but when using Broadcaster one to one, the broadcast is being sent to that IP address only via the ports at the receiving end. Because of all the bad things people like to do when they can hack into other's computers these are blocked. So the receiving end has to open their ports to let the broadcast in. Kind of like why you close and lock the front door to your house, it keeps out the unwanted but it has to be opened to let the cat in.

  • My first question here.Is it possible to bounce live from logic into quicktime broadcaster quicktime streaming server?o

I would like to broadcast (webcast) live music only.Is it possible to live bounce from logic to quicktime broadcaster/quicktime steaming server, and thus to mobile me ?

Thanks, Evan. Your first suggestion works - although with a lot more difficulty as the Quicktime Pro I have is 5.0 and in Mac OS 9.2. If I listen to it in QuickTime Pro 5.0 after exporting - it is very jerky but the final AIF is okay. I can now burn the CD in iTunes. I probably should upgrade to QuickTime Pro 7 (.whatever) but I am leary about putting out the extra cash if it won't export Midi Files. Any experience with that?
Also, I do want to get the hang of converting midi data to audio in LE7.01. That way I can add singing to the songs for the beginner students to learn.
Maybe I'll have a better feel for that once I finish the Training Series book.
Some of the advantages of keeping it in midi format is the ability to transpose. Some students don't sing in the key the works are written in.
Your second idea did not work for me. Maybe because I don't have Toast on this computer (it was attached to my iBook). When I opened Toast, chose AUDIO and dragged the midifile to it, it rejected the offer as not being in Audio format.
Thanks so much for your help.

  • Quicktime Streaming Server will not accept Quicktime Broadcaster connection

I am running Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard server on a parallels virtual machine on my Mac Pro. Since the parallels server cannot "see" the video camera and microphone since it is parallels, i want to stream from Quicktime Broadcaster from the host Mac Pro to the QSS. I have tried everything from Sunday and i keep getting a Disconnected (-3285) error. I have set the login password in server admin, i have used the web based management option, i have created relays and then deleted them, i have used the Quicktime Administrator's manual and have gone in through the Terminal to adjust the password, and so on. My goal is to stream from the host to the QSS server so that i can host a webcast to multiple users who would go in through rtp in QUicktime. nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Just to add to this. I followed several instructions in the Administration guide for both OSX and Darwin. I went into the qtusers file and verified that the username that i want to use to broadcast was in there. It was. I went into the qtgroups file and made sure that there was a group called broadcaster and there was. i also added a group called admin and added another username and made sure that was in qtusers as well. I followed the steps to create a qtaccess file and put a copy in the default media folder. i also tried having broadcaster send its mystream file right onto the server's. I know that QTSS is talking to QTB because it does request a username and password. I put the ones that are in the config files in there over and over again and it does not work...
