QuickTime: can't move to a specific point when playing .WMA audio files

I use a lot of .WMA audio files recorded on my Olympus Digital Voice recorder. Since the latest update of QuickTime I cannot move to a specific point in a file. When I click and drag on the diamond cursor it won't move. The only way to move through the file is to play it or 'fast' forward it - which takes ages.

I have the same problem. when playing wma or wmv file, simply just cannot drag the progress bar to a specific position. Just have to progress from the very beginning to the end. Once it has been played to the end, I can move the progress bar. Very weird
I have both flip4Mac and perian installed with the latest version.
Could anybody please help.

Not only can i not see the individual chaptes -- apparently like you and everyone else suffering through the "improved" iOS7 -- when my audiobook repeats a "file" within chapter, which it sometimes does, I cannot get "inside" the chapter and move forward to where I'm supposed to be.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

When I run the VST_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, etc from each project the audio and the video are clean and match.
When I run the edited Premiere Elements file that were created after project 34 edited Premiere Elements file project 35, 36, 37 etc. I am getting the audio from project 34
When I run the edited Premiere Elements file that were created before project 34 edited Premiere Elements file project 1, 2, all the way to 33. I am getting the correct audio

thanks for the fast response. cs5 remembered the window position. I like having the window in the middle as I have a 27" monitor. I just upgraded to cs6 yesterday and I'm sure it was remembering the window document position. I think. If i find out how to fix this, I'll post it here.
And while I'm on the subject of cs6, why the f*** did adobe combine the stroke and swatches pallettes? Now I forever have to click stroke and swatch tabs all day. And I love the army and navy file icons of photoshop and illustrator. I won't comment on Acrobat X. ; (

Can't Move Text Into Vanishing Point Plane

For some reason, when I select text and attempt to paste it into a vanishing point plane, the selection ends up 200% longer than what it should be, and I can't move the text layer into the plane. Screenshot attached.

After you paste the text, (or anything previously copied to the clipboard before entering Vanishing Point) into Vanishing Point, there is no reason why you can't use Free Transform to scale it back to your required size, and aspect ratio. If the text or object is too big, and the FT handles are outside the VP Plane, just drag it down so you can see the upper handles, scale it down, and drag it back into position.
Note: that when using FT Perspective on any object (I am talking about outside of VP) it tends to exaggerate the 'length' because that's how we would probably see the object in real life. Perspective I just about the only time I actually right click and chose an option from within FT, because it is so easy and quick to Ctrl (Cmd) drag a corner or center handle.
Unfortunately you only get the basic FT options of size and aspect ratio from within VP, which is a pity because you can't distort your object to apparently wrap onto a curved surface. I added some FT warp to this text before applying it from within VP. I suspect I am missing a trick or two with VP as I don't use it very often, so I'd love to hear from someone who really has it under control?

Noob question - How can I copy a specific time sequence from an audio file

Hello, I want to chop up an audio file
into time-specific lengths. How can I accomplish this precisely? I know I can position the playhead precisely but
how can I copy a chunk of an audio file, for example, if I wanted the segment from 00:02:34.7
to 00:05:42.1? Is my only option the "drag" selection of the
Time Selection tool? Is there not an option to do some start and end point setting so I can be as arbitrarily precise as necessary?

I can't move tv show to ipod when used as external drive

I have been putting itunes purchased tv shows on my 60g ipod as a hard drive untill it stopped working. I drag the show to the ipod icon on the desktop and the plus sign appears then nothing happens. I have 28g free and it's worked fine untill now. I'm just doing this temporarily untill i get a new hard drive for my computer. I only have 13g now. So if I want to buy anything else I have to free up the space and I know that if I just put it on my ipod as a watchable video I can't move it back.

Does this video play in iTunes? How is your iPod configured to sync videos from under its Movies configuration tab in iTunes?

How can I search for a specific folder when filing an email message?

Dear all, first of all thanks for your support.
Please don’t hit me but I am currently a BlackBerry user, since this is the standard I got from the company I work for.
That said, new server technologies allows now to use also other devices with the same company server, something that gives me the chance to switch to an iPhone.
Basically it’s all ready for the switch, but just one thing holds me from making the step.
It’s the email messages filing procedure.
With the iPhone, assuming I am not missing something (something that I hope), when you want to file an email in one of your folders you select the “file” function and then you scroll with your finger across the folders list you have in your email account.
This is all right if you have an handful of folders, but if you have hundreds, if not thousands, of folders it will take forever to find the one you’re looking for.
With a BlackBerry, once you selected the email messages you’d like to file, and after you selected the “file” function, you can also scroll, but – very important for me – I can also start typing the initial letters of the folder I’m looking for. The more I type the less folders will appear, as less folders will match with letters I typed. Once the list is short enough to easily see the folder you want (usually after you typed two or three letters, which takes no more than a second), you can pick the folder you wanted in a blink of an eye.
This makes email messages filing a very fast operation, and since I use this for my job I can’t live without email filing.
If someone of you knows how to perform the same with an iPhone, and possibly with the original apple mail software, I will very glad to make the switch.

At what point will gaining an audio file introduce noise or distortion?

I know that in the mastering process an entire stereo mix file will be gained by at least 6 db or so. My question is: At what point will gaining the signal become problematic.
I'm talking specifically about gaining an *audio file*, I'm not referring to gaining a software instrument track.

It's the man of a thousand questions...
There's no rule(s) regarding mastering as it varies according the genre and can even vary from track to track. Mastering doesn't necessarily have anything to to do with gain unless it's to balance tracks so the album/CD/DVD has cohesiveness.
Regarding digital distortion:
The simple answer is, don't go over 0 <zero> DB, although peak levels with short durations can be tolerated.
There's two main avenues regarding distortion... peak level and RMS level.
The lower (moving towards 0db) the RMS level, the less dynamics you will have and the more overall gain the file will have.. when I produce commercials I generally keep the RMS level at around -15db, this gives a fairly constant level with just enough peaks and valleys that I can stand listening to it. Some rock/dance producers master down to -12 or -10db.
To show how insane the loudness wars are I've seen tracks mastered at -8db and have heard of tracks being mastered at -6db or less. At this point there are virtually no dynamics every bit of the audio spectrum is used, it's a wall of sound. Even if the peak level never goes over 0db the RMS power can cause less than quality audio systems to distort as the preamps break up from input gain.
Something to think about, you might want to do some research on your own, people giving you answers IS NOT learning.
Also... learn a little about the history of mastering, how it was originally conceived as opposed to how it is used today.

Is that file played in a tab in the current window or in a separate pop-up window?
Are you allowing pop-up to modify the window size (dom.disable_window_move_resize = false)?

Force pointer to a different audio file

I often use the function to open a file in an external sample editor (usually izotope) while a Logic song is open. But the following applies even when not using this particular command. That particular command is handy in the sense that Logic keeps refreshing the updated file as it's being edited, but what I really want to do is create a new file so the original stays intact as a backup.
I'd like to have a command to force Logic to point to this renamed, edited sound file instead of the original--without having to close and reopen the song.
This would operate much in the same way as when one is prompted by Logic when it is unable to find a sound file upon opening a song. You get the can't-find-a-file dialogue with option to either search, or to manually point to the file. I just want to be able to force this on command while the song is open, as an audio bin command (not just when opening a song and Logic is unable to find a file)
Currently, the way I deal with it is
-close the Logic song
-rename the original audio file temporarily, e.g., put a ~ in front of the file name.
-use the "find manually" option when Logic says to find the file it can no longer find
-point Logic to the edited and renamed version.
-then once again, rename the original file back to its original name.
Anyone have a simpler method?

DVD movie skips and breaks up when playing on tv

Ok, I have made a DVD using iDVD 08 and it works perfect for all my movies and slideshows (in my dvd player) except one.
There is one movie that breaks up or skips forward when I try and play it.
The movie seems fine in imovie and plays on my Mac with no errors!
I am at a loss what to do to fix this? Any suggestions?

My guess is you can't fix this type of issue. It depends largely on the dvd player and secondly on your media and the burn speed you chose.
You can try burning a disc image from the file menu in iDvd and then lowering the burn speed to 4x or lower. Use verbatim and Maxell for best results. A third option would be to try a quality DVD Lens Cleaner kit from either Maxell or 3M. (don't use less expensive brands since they can actually cause more issues than they solve).
Btw .... Disc Images burned with Roxio Toast (as opposed to iDvd) to quality media such as those already mentioned above often play well on a wider variety of set tops under these circumstances ....
