QuickTime Clips Won't Play

I have some animated GIFs that I want to play in my movie. I saved them as QuickTime files and then imported the QuickTime movies into my movie and then dropped them into the movie.
However, when I try to preview the movie, they don't play. Instead, I just get a black screen for the length of the clip.
I know all the frames are there because I can see then when I slide the mouse left and right over the clip. However, I can't get the clips to play.

never tried but mostly doubt.. iMovie and FCE are meant for editing camcorder material... and anim.gifs never fullfill the standards of 'video' (PAL/NTSC/HiDEf) ..
but..
FCE allows to 'zoom' clips ... you should convert your anim.gif into something 'video-ish', e.g. a dv-stream, import to FCE, and 'shrink' the clip to a size, where it looks better in a video.. for sure, it dosn't 'fill' fullscreen, you'll get borders around it..

I am having problems using mov files imported into a project. I get the message "Not rendered" in the Canvas and clip won't play. Can anyone help?

When clips won't play without rendering in the Timeline, it usually means that the clip's specs don't match the Sequence settings.
A .mov file could be made from any number of codecs; the QuickTime Movie designation is merely a container for video files of all kinds.  Since FCE only works with the QuickTime DV codec and the Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) natively, if your mov files aren't one of those two, you need to convert them PRIOR to importing into your FCE project.

  • Video clips won't play back after capture

I am a long-time user of Premiere Elements, currently using version 9.0. I am capturing video clips from the same videocamera that I've used in previous versions of PE. My video clips won't play back after I capture them. The clip is in my "media" area, but when I try to play it back, the audio plays but the picture remains frozen on the starting image. What is happening?

It is a Sony Handycam DCR-HC28, mini DV, using a firewire connection.
Operating System is Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3, system specs are SATA 2 RAID 1 with dual 1 TB hard drives. 4 GB RAM. As far as how fast my processor is, I looked on my invoice and it says, "Intel Core2 processor Q6600 (2.4 Ghz, 1066 FSB) with Quad Core technology and 8 MB cache, 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800 MHz.
I defragmented my hard drive before beginning and have 779 GB or 83 percent free space on hard drive.
I have not placed my video clips on the timeline yet so don't know if there is a red line on top, indicating it hasn't been rendered. I merely wanted to play back my clip to set "in" and "out" points. This has never happened before in my long history of using Premiere Elements. Would prefer not to have to go back to PE 8, as that was a disaster.

  • Why won't iMovie voiceover clips won't play sound!

I've been using iMovie '11 version 9.0.9, to make a school assignment. I started two days ago and it was allw orking perfectly fine, until today when some of the clips won't play. It started after I deleted a voiceover clip to replace it with a song from itunes. When I tried to add the song it showed that it was there but it played no sound. I managed to get that song working by dragging the song onto the whole project and then dragging and pinning it onto the parts I needed it.
After I got that working I tried to add new voiceover clips to the project but then there was no sund coming from that clip either! After about an hour of searching and fiddling I had just about given up when I played my project in the background and ran it through untill the end and I heard the last clip I added, that wasn't working before but now is.
At this point I recorded another clip to add thinking my problem was fixed, but alas that voicover clip played no sound. I thought I might try running through the entire project again to see if that would help like the last time. But no, that was not the case, in fact even more sound clips have stopped working.
I read in a lot of other threads that it might be a corrupt clip and it will have a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it (or a spinnign circle?), but none of the clips have this! Is there something I need to do to see the triangle, if that is the problem? Or is it something completely different?
Please help me I desperately need to get this working by tonight!

Sorry, but there's a dedicated discussion forum for iMovie, where you might be luckier finding help.

  • Quicktime Player won't play avi files all of a sudden

All of a sudden Quicktime Player won't play my avi files. They worked previously. I could play them with Quicktime 7 with or without Perian. I'm running 10.6.4.
They'll run fine on my MacBook and I don't have Perian installed on it.
    Any ideas?

I just uninstalled Flip4Mac and everything is working as it's supposed to. Very strange. Perhaps a conflict with Perian? But then again, QT didn't play the avi files with Perian installed. So, I guess the conflict is with Flip4Mac and something else.
    Thanks anyway

  • My quicktime player won't play any videos on my Mac X os. The video will start on quicktime then automatically start

My quicktime player won't play any videos on my Mac X os. The video will start on quicktime then automatically start. I installed DiV X today and all this happened is there anyway to fix this?? I went through everything dragging the icon to the trash and deleting it from safari extentions.

    Download and install
    Perian from  http://perian.org/
You should read this support page  http://perian.org/#support   in case you need to delete older codecs.  In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them), particularly any DivX extension to Safari. However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from  http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac  Note that Perian will be discontinued after the release of Mountain Lion:  http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57434082-263/perian-plug-in-for-quicktime-t o-be-discontinued/?tag=txt;title

  • In OSX 10.9, Quicktime movies won't play

Plug-in not "visible" in list even though Quicktime is installed. In this OS, we cannot "reinstall" Quicktime because it's built into the OS. How can I get the QT videos to run inside Firefox?

You said that QuickTime movies won't play "inside Firefox". Do they play inside Safari or when you directly access a QuickTime Movie file that's been saved on your Mac ?
See the Firefox Support article, [[Use the QuickTime plugin to play audio and video]]. It has some test links and explains how to enable the QuickTime plugin in the Add-ons Manager, in case it's been disabled in Firefox.
Like you say, QuickTime is built into the operating system on Mac OS so if you can't enable the browser plugin in Firefox or if it's missing, your best bet would be a Mac forum such as https://discussions.apple.com/

  • Help!! video clips won't play in slide show

I have a 40 minute Aperture slide show presentation that contains a few video clips (time-lapse videos, etc). It played well last summer. However, now that I am about to present the show tomorrow I can't get the video clips in the show to play. They have all been located and connected to the original files. If I double click on individual video clips they will play in the browser window but they won't play in my slide show. Any ideas? I'm in panic mode!

What happened since last yoear? Have you reinstalled the system at some point? Maybe you had last year additional video codecs installed? Flip4Mac, Perian?

Also, if you recently run a cleaner utility that cleared the caches, you now may have a missing  com.apple.xpchelper.cache in /System/Library/Caches .

  • Embedded audio and video clips won't play in a pdf doc.

I have an EPK with embedded clips that won't play. I've udated all my software, and followed the isntructions for allowing 3rd party content ot be stored. Macbook Pro with all updates installed.

The "wm" part of the file extension is a Windows Media Player format.
They are not compatible in QuickTime without third party software help.
http://flip4mac.com is the Microsoft recommended method for Mac users to view WMP formats and they offer a "beta" version for Snow Leopard users.
Your AVI file has the same troubles but the fix may be a bit easier to fix:
http://perian.org (for the codecs) and the older QuickTime Player.
To install QuickTime Player you use your Snow Leopard DVD and the "Optional Installs" package.
It will install in your Utilities folder.

  • Clips won't play at correct time

    Hi,
So a while ago, iMovie HD was working just fine, but then it started messing up the timing of my project. I am making a slideshow that is 15 minutes long right now and will get longer. I only use still pictures, music, and titles (no Ken Burns or transitions). Now, when the playhead is at the start of a pic, the photo won't play until about 3 seconds later. Sometimes, when the photo is playing at the wrong time, a different picture flashes. Basically, the duration of the pictures is all different, even though i set them all to have a 3 second duration.
I'm very confused why this is happening, because the same problem is happening to all my imovie HD files, not just the one. However, only pictures are delayed, not video clips or title sequences.
    How can I fix this?

    Hi
OK - I can give it a guess.
    • Trash preference file - and/or -
    • Repair Permissions
    • Free space on start-up hard disk >>10Gb
this takes care about 95% of people with this problem. If it still persists after this
    it will be more tricky.
    My general list on this
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Delete iMovie pref file
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Turn off Mac and disconnect Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes - will at least re-set FW-port
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
    • Problems in iPhoto Library can affect iMovie to crash on start-up. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time

    • Program miss-match. iMovie’09 v. 8.0.6, Mac OS X.5.8 AND QuickTime 7.6.4 - is OK (will work under Leopard and Snow-Leopard)
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.
    Lennart Thelander
I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • Quicktime x won't play movies

I have snow leopard, mac os 10.6.2 and quicktime x. Ever since I upgraded to snow leopard whenever I put movies into my mac they won't play. They use to automatically play but now they don't. Are these movies employing legacy codecs and/or require a third-party component package like Perian? If so, have you updated the needed components that will work under the QT X/7 combined structure/QTkit?

  • Quicktime Pro won't play FCPro exported Qtime mov

I exported mov files from Final Cut. But Quicktime won't play them.

What do you think is the problem?

I exported mov files from Final Cut. But Quicktime won't play them.
What audio and video compression formats did you use? Are you trying to play them back on the same computer or a different one?

  • "Export as Quicktime Movie" -- won't play on other computers

When I use the "Export as Quicktime Movie" option and try to play it back on a Mac without FCP installed, it is missing components and won't play back in Quicktime Player. Of course, I can export with various compressions and then it's fine, but sometimes I want that big "original" file. Any thoughts? Thanks!
    Message was edited by: elisenew

You do need the codec you are exporting to installed in the other machine if you wish to play the exported file. A variety of codecs are available only with FCP installed.
A couple of possible solutions are a very high res H.264 or Download [ProRes decoder|http://support.apple.com/downloads/AppleProRes_QuickTime_Decoder_1_0_forMac] to share a prores file between machines.

  • Audio "sub-clips" won't play in source monitor, but will play when cut into a sequence.

I'm cutting an "audio only" project in Premiere and I came across a strange problem while making sub-clips. The first 6 sub clips made from the same master audio clip were normal, but then something changed, and the rest of them won't play any sound while in the "Source" window, even though while in the window the sub-clip displays a waveform.
Once edited into a sequence they play normally, but not being able to listen to the sub clips in the source monitor is annoying, and louses up my whole editing routine for this kind of project.
Any ideas as to why this is happening, or what I might do to fix it?

    Number of issues here:
    1. Your system does not meet minimum requirements.
    2. Your CPU, disks, memory are not enough for anything other than DV.
    3. What video camera was used with what codec on what OS with which version of PR. etc.
Some suggestions... and answer at least the 16 questions at the end of the Wiki article.

  • Quicktime X won't play .avi files

I have several video files that are in the .avi format, and Quicktime won't play them. Every time I try to open them it says 'the movie can't be played'. I have visited the support site on Apple after clicking the 'Tell me more' button on the dialogue box that appears. I have downloaded Perian, Flip4Mac and DivX, none of which have solved the issue. I can't even open the file in Quick Look - it just plays the audio and not the video.
Does anyone have any ideas? Please help.
    Thanks

VLC also does not play the file. The error message I receive when trying to open in VLC is: "VLC does not support the audio or video format 'VP70'. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this." I also have the option to show details, so if they would be helpful then I'll post them, but I hope there is enough information in this post for you. Any other suggestions?
    Thanks
