Quicktime codecs for reading XDCAM footage

Recently updated the software on my Mac Pro tower (circa 2008) and now Quicktime only plays audio of XDCAM footage, but not the video.
Quicktime plays regular mov, mp4 and mpeg videos just fine so I've isolated the probem to just XDCAM 1080 24p footage.
I think the codecs for reading XDCAM footage were lost or overwritten during the update, is there any way to reinstall or retrieve them?
If not what are the proper codecs for Quicktime to play XDCAM footage?

I also had a similar problem to most people here. Cannot playback XDCAM files after upgrading from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I called Apple who suggested a fresh install of Snow Leopard without upgrading the 'ProApps QuickTime Codecs 1.0.3' and copy the contents of the Library/QuickTime form the fresh install into my QT library. However, I decided to seek the file(s) that is the cause which is the AppleHDV.Component file. I copied the faulty one to my desktop (so I had a backup) and downloaed:
PerianXDCam.component.zip -> PerianXDCam.component
PerianHDV.component.zip -> PerianHDV.component

Once unzipped, copy into the Library/QuickTime folder and this should solve your problem, until Apple and Sony resolve this issue.

HDV Quicktime Codec for PC

Hi
I am in the middle of editing a project on FCP 5 and need to export part of it to a PC.
The footage is HDV 1080 50i and for speed I would prefer to keep it that way.
I'm having trouble finding the Quicktime codec to allow the footage to be palyed back on the PC, can anyone tell me where to find this???

I think you're talking about exporting to wmv. Flip4Mac Studio Pro HD is a good start. If you want better than that, check out Episode.

Quicktime codecs for divx and other vids

Hi guys,
I have a large collection of videos on my pc and after switching to apple yesterday I realized that I couldn t see most of the vids.
I realise that there seems to be a problem with quicktime 7 ( i have the latest 7.0.3) but is there a codec pack somewhere?
I remember the nimo pack for pc so is there a similar thing for mac?

The Beta DivX CODEC for Mac Tiger and QT7 can be found in the DivX Labs website at http://labs.divx.com/?src=footerdivxlabs_from/divx/mac/index.php
I haven't had much luck with it.
If you just want to play the files on your Mac, try the free VLC media player at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Is apple pro res 422 best codec for transfering HD footage in Mpeg stream?

i have m2t files that are not recognized in FCP...is this a good codec for transfer?

I use an inexpensive program called ClipWrap (http://www.clipwrap.com/) that avoids transcoding by simply rewrapping the .m2t files in a .mov wrapper. It's fast and works well.

FCP Quicktime Codec for Windows

I have an HD sequence that I exported using Export to Quicktime (movie is self contained); This gives me a .mov file that is uncompressed and has a smaller file size than any other way I export. I tried to play the file at my friends house on his PC but we couldn't. I'm assuming this export method uses a specific codec that my friend doesn't have. If this is the case, do you know if or where he could DL the specific codec. I googled it, but to no avail. If I'm completely off base with the whole codec thing could someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks

Happy to help out, but you need to identify what cam or sequence settings you use to create the HD sequence.
HD means so many things, including HDV and DVCProHD.
What is it?
And what did you choose to export to that create a smaller movie file for use on the PC?
Because it seems you have converted the original footage to something else, otherwise the size would be the same.
You might try an export to h.264 that should work if your friend is using v.7 of QT on Windows.

Quicktime codec for fcp files?

is there a way to view newer fcp files with out purchasing fcp?

I have fcp 6.0.6 on an old G5 dual processor runing Tiger 10.4.11, but now have a new MacBook Pro but not newest fcp and some one just gave me a newer fcp project on a firewire drive to simply author a DVD which I find I am unable to accomplish.

Transfer your FCP license to the new machine and upgrade?
Apple will allow that, I've done it before, for Aperture.
The new MacBook Pro quads are like twice as fast as the Dual G5 processors anyway.

Quicktime Codec for use on internet

Projects that I have exported as a quicktime files seem to be giving people trouble when downloading. They are exported in h.264. If i used h.263 or
h.261 for export are those codes usable by earlier versions of QT, and would people be able to view them in the case that there only problem is that they don't have QT 7.

As enzo mentions, MPEG-4 is a viable alternative. And will make your files QT 6 compatible.
Another, perhaps more popular, codec is Sorenson Video 3, which is compatible with QT 5(or later. (Though it's a bit dated now, KenStone.net has an awesome article about compressing for the web)
Understand that with each step backwards -- QT7 (h.264) -> QT6 (MPEG-4) -> QT5 (SV3) -- the compression algorithm gets more primitive, so maintaining the same quality is harder to do (at the same file size).

Quicktime codec for DVDs?

As well the apple DVD player stinks compared to quicktime, yet quicktime doesnt appear to have a DVD player codec? any suggestions?

QuickTime Player can't even open commercial DVD's and can't view the files on them.

Codec for Nikon D90 footage

I'm playing around with Nikon D90 footage for the first time. It imports as an Apple Open DML Jpeg 1280x720, 24 FPS file.
Any recommendation as to which Codec or sequence setting I should use to keep as much quality of the raw?

I'm on a MacPro with FCP 6. I do not have an SDI connection or RAID Array drives, so uncompressed is out of the question. I wonder how much of a difference there is between uncompressed and Apple Prores, aside from a huge file size disparity. I think I will play with Apple Prores HQ.

Codec for displaying JVC HD Cam footage?

I have imported a clip but all I get is a black screen with audio. Can abybody point me in the right direction for a suitable Quicktime codec?

I opened up the footage in VideoSpec and it tells me that is is HDV 720p25.
If I attempt to view in the browser it just displays a black screen. If I try to copy onto a standard DV timeline it does the same. I've spent the last couple of hours looking for an answer to no avail.
Both MPEG Streamclip and VisualHub are unable to convert to DV which I could at least then view. Quicktime also opens the footage as black screen with audio.
Help!

Codec for HD Quicktime?...

I have a couple HD Clips that a friend gave me which are in Quicktime format and I want to include them in my Premiere CS4 Project. I try to bring them in and I get an error saying "Codec missing or unavailable" I tried then just opening the Quicktime in the QT Player and I QT sends me to their 3rd party codec site (which is of no help at all, making me basically choose what codec I think it's in which I have no clue)
I talked to the guy who created the files and he says they are the raw files from the tape that were captured in Final Cut - I don't know if that helps, but these files do play on Macs (My friend, and the guy who createdthem - both can view them and import them)
So what Codec does the pc not come with that Macs do?
Can anyone help me out here?

The main QuickTime codec that is for HD footage and is only available on Mac and not Windows is AIC, or Apple Intermediate Codec. And opening the files in QT Pro on Windows and trying to convert them simply won't work--there is no AIC QT component for Windows.
Your friend with the Mac, however, could recapture those clips or transcode the AIC versions into ProRes, for instance, for which there is a PC playback component. This is installed by default with QT Player/Pro. If these clips are encoded with AIC, that's the only way you'll get any joy on the PC.

DVCPROHD Codec for Quicktime?

Problems with mpeg2 codec for quicktime

I just downloaded the mpeg2 codec for quicktime and installed it. My computer doesn't recongnize it and I still can't play mpeg2 clips. When I check the video codecs installed on my computer, the mpeg2 codec doesn't appear in the list even if I did install it. I'm using windows XP. What can I do?

The QuickTime MPEG2 Component comes with an installer. Did the installer run? Did it show any errors?
It is working for me in QuickTime on Windows XP.
Note: Even with this component there are some limitations. It cannot play AC3 sound tracks. It should however be able to play MPEG2 video from .m2v or .vob or .mpg files.

Xvid Codec for Quicktime 7.0.3

Hey, i've got some videos i'd like to put onto my ipod, but they were converted to avi using xvid. Therefore i can't use qt to put them on my ipod. Does anyone know if and how i can install the xvid codec into quicktime.
