Quicktime compatibility

Hi,
I'm using FCP 4, and the last time I updated Quicktime there was a compatibility issue that caused me to not be able to capture video, so I had to re-install Quicktime 7. This was a while ago and I've since been using 7.0. I wanted to know if this problem had been fixed, and if I could download 7.5.5 and not experience any problems with FCP 4.
Thanks.

Here's what I did:
Installed a spare 300gb hard drive into my G5.
Partitioned it into 2 150gb volumes with Disk Utility.
Installed OS 10.3 on the first volume, ran Software Update to get to OS 10.3.9 and QT 6.5.2.
Installed all applications and ran Software Update.
Installed OS 10.4 on the second volume, ran Software Update to get to OS 10.4.11.
Installed all applications and ran Software Update.
Rebooted on one of the new volumes, then shut down. Removed the old original hard drive and kept it as a backup.
Yes, the data on the drive will be lost if you partition the old drive.

  • Error prompts after Quicktime compatibility download

Because I am using apps from the new iLife 08, I downloaded both MAC OS 10.4.10 along with the Quicktime Compatibility download on my G5 dual 2.0GHz MAC. Now Quiktime Pro 7.2 will not record. I get the following error prompt when I try to record either audio or video: The operation could not be completed due to an unknown error. (INSError 'Mac OS error 2003332927' Domain =NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=2003332927)"
I've zapped my PRAM, run a correction on all my permissions, removed preference files from both libraries and checked my hardware and I get the same error code. I know it's not a hardware problem since Final Cut Pro and iMovie HD still can capture video fine from the two different video capture devices I use. Also a nearly identical MAC that has not been updated has none of these problems. Does anyone have a clue what these error codes are pointing to? Or are my Quicktime options dead until Apple comes up with another compatibility update?

"I downloaded both MAC OS 10.4.10 along with the Quicktime Compatibility download on my G5 dual 2.0GHz MAC."
I am assuming by your last posting that *DW was unable to repair?*
Just in case QT is not the culprit since you also downloaded an OS at the same time, suggest you cross-post in one of the iLife Forums.
*Just a thought:* Are you sure you meet all iLife 8 system (hardware & software) requirements?
    Good Luck!

  • Quicktime compatability issues???

I was wondering if there are any compatibility issues with quicktime and other programs. After my single 1.8 G5 running OS X 10.4.2with all the latest updates has been started up for about 2 hours, if I try to open anything up in quicktime, it freezes my computer. I was wondering if anybody knows if it is a software thing or something with my machine. I just finished wiping my hard drive and did a clean install but the problem still persists.
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Jon

I would also be very interested in any information about this issue.

  • QuickTime compatibility with FCP 4.5

Are there any other people out there using FCP 4.5 on OS 10.3.9 successfully with a version of QuickTime later than 6.5.2? I haven't dared upgrade QuickTime since all kinds of things went wrong and I hade to downgrade QuickTime at great trouble. But perhaps more recent versions have solved these problems. Anyone know?

This is not true. You can run QT 7 with OSX 10.3.9 - HOWEVER - it really is a good idea to keep families of software together.
    This means osx 10.3.9/FCP 4.5/Qt 6.5.2
    or
osx 10.4.9/FCP5.1.2/QT 7.x (whichever is current)
    good luck.

  • Video problems - mp4, DivX, QuickTime compatibility, converting m2t

At first my Mac didn't recognize AVI files natively in QuickTime, but VLC could play them. I installed DivX and now it will play AVI, .mov and .mp4 converted from an m2t stream (using VisualHub and MPEG StreamClip), and most other formats, however, certain *.mp4 files that were working before now no longer work in Quick Look or QuickTime. As far as I can tell, they are all videos converted from YouTube with TubeSock. What could be causing this? Before DivX, QuickTime played them; now, they're simply plain white videos with the sound intact.

Can you run get info on the files in quicktime player? It might be worth uninstalling DivX and trying Perian instead.
If you prefer to get to the bottom of the issue instead of just working around it, dig up the video on Youtube again, re-download and re-convert. See if it happens again.
If it does, go back to the youtube page again and open the activity window in safari. Here you will find an entry with a drop down arrow for each tab or window you have open. They are all labelled with their URLs. Find the YT page and click the drop arrow. This will give you a load more YT URLs. You are looking for one with .flv in it (not necessarily at the end). Click this one to highlight it, then copy it. Then open the downloads window and paste into it. The flash video will now download. (This is what Tubesock is doing for you.)
Try converting the .flv again with Visual Hub or Streamclip. If it still goes wrong at least you have eliminated Tubesock as the culprit.

  • Quicktime compatibility issue with Adobe After Effects

    Hi,
When opening Adobe After Effects CC, a warning pops up: " Quicktime is not installed on this system, some components will not work correctly. "
But an older (trial) version of CS6 is also running on the same system...
    2013 Mac Pro
    3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5
    32 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
    OSX 10.9.4
...and it exports QT correctly! I have installed both: Quicktime Player 7 Pro (7.6.6) and Quicktime Player 10.3. Firewall is disabled and I don't use other Quicktime components.
I found several threads on this topic like: http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2011/02/troubleshooting-quicktime-errors-wit h-after-effects.html
    and...
    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/08/solutions-for-problems-with-quicktim e-files-in-after-effects-cc-12-0-because-of-conflict-with-dvcprohdvideoout-quick time-component.html
... But none of the above proposed solutions seem to work. That's why I am trying my luck here.
    Thanks in advance!

Okay, the issue is supposed to be resolved by following these instructions: http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2014/06/permissions-mac-os-start-adobe-appli cations.html
The blogpost describes exactly what is going on with After Effects CC.
It says: "Set the entire Adobe preferences folder and its contents to be read/write, not just read-only."
    However this folder:
    Mac OS: [drive]/Users/[user_name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe/
    ...seems to be in a different spot on my mac;
    Mac OS: [drive]/Library/Preferences/
Or is it the wrong folder? It contains many .plist files amongst which com.adobe... preferences, so I am guessing it's the right one. There is no Library folder in the Users/[user_name] folder anyway.
But changing the "read only" into "read/write" doesn't seem to get me anywhere. Having done so, the same notification remains: "Quicktime is not installed on this system..."
Just a direction; no solution yet. Or am I missing something?

  • Quicktime compatability

I am trying to view quicktimes imported from a p2 card.
the footage was shot on DVC PRO HD camera, transfered to quicktimes and my older version cant read the format.
What codec do I need to download to view the quicktimes?
Is quicktime Pro going to solve my problem?
Help please. Need to watch these dailies.

i guess I am up the creek?
Read This to see if you have the required software already installed. (Believe the Apple installer will check for FCP HD 4.5 but don't know if the secondary Frame Rate Converter also checks. However, note additional hardware considerations for converter.)

  • Cannot open any mp4 files on Quicktime but plays ok within iTunes.

Hi, I'm new to apple discussion forum, I have been searching for answer to my problems but couldn't find the resolution.
I have dozens of MP4 files which plays well on Quicktime on my other systems running XP-Pro. Recently I transferred my mp4 files on a portable drive and I wanted to open them up on a system which has 64-bit Vista. I can open all the files within iTunes without a problem (although it had to install files within iTunes first) but the same mp4 files won't run on Quicktime.
I wanted to be able to run the mp4 files on Quicktime without the need to open iTunes first, as I don't want to install these mp4 files in iTunes.
If any of these mp4 files are opened on Quicktime, I am getting an "Error -43: file not found..." message although the files are there. I don't think it's related to the 8 character limitation because I even tried to chunk-out the characters. I have tried many times to uninstall and reinstall both iTunes and Quicktime and also tried many times to run the standalone Quicktime setup by itself, but the same error-message remains.
I tried to run the mp4 file on RealPlayer as well as DivX but both program says it needed Quicktime to run the file, although Quicktime was installed it seemed like the programs cannot see quicktime, and yet when I run any of the mp4 files within iTunes they work fine.
Any reason why Quicktime won't open file and yet iTunes can open the same file?
I don't know of any but is there any known Quicktime compatibility problem with 64-bit Vista and if so what causes the conflict, or are there any workaround or patches? (can't find any related issues on Microsoft support)
Is there any way I can resolve this issue, and be able to open these mp4 files within Quicktime without getting error -43 message and without the need to install the mp4 files within iTunes first?
Any help from any good people out there are very much appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.

    Hi.
Yes, I have the same exact problem. Running pretty much same Vista 64-bit system. When I double click to run a mp4 file I keep getting that same error -43: file not found. The video plays fine through iTunes but won't run at all through Quicktime (outside of iTunes).
Hope someone can come up with an answer or Apple puts in fix.
For now I set iTunes to be the default program to open for this file type but would it rather have remained Quicktime.
Tried the uninstall and reinstall to latest Quicktime version but that didn't fix anything. Same problem....

  • QuickTime compatible video camera?

In frustration with Apple's dropping of the iSight Cameras and no word of a replacement, I looked desperately for a web-cam solution for my PowerBook 15 and my Mac Mini.
I will be working away from home and the ability to video chat with the family will be wonderful, IF I can find a substitute camera that will WORK with the Mac's. My MacBook allows the family to see me in all the methods we have tried, but we need to "turn the camera's on them" so to speak.
In some forum (here? TUAW?) I read that a digital video camera with firewire and "QuickTime" compatibility will be a great substitute, but what is meant by QuickTime compatibility? I have a new Panasonic video camera, and wonder if it will work.

    Hi BrianDubya,
Any Firewire DV output (6 pin to 6pin) Camcorder
    Any Firewire Web cam
Any USB cam that has Mac drivers and this Utility
    http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/
The chances are that any USB cam is going to have
Windows drivers (if you need them for a Intel)

    I love Macs.
I came in from out of town and tried all three of my computers, 2 PowerPCs Macs and one Intel MacBook with the video camera and all I have to do is plug the camera in.
Bada Bing!! The Panasonic PV-GS250 works everytime with Yahoo Messenger, Skype, and iChat.
After the 2-1/2 hours I spent "connecting" a new HP Laptop and new HP printer and getting it communicating and on-line (THAT's TWO and A HALF HOURS!!) I am glad I discovered Apple Inc products.
Thannks for your help in this!

    Hello K,
Thank you for contacting Adobe Technical Support.
I am responding in reference to your web-case dated 10/09/2009  . We
would like to thank you for showing interest in Adobe Product. I
understand the concern that you are facing with  Adobe CS4 Master
Collection  while installaing.. I apologize for the inconvenience and I
assure you that we will work together to resolve the issue.
Going through the log files you have sent , I suggest you to follow
    these troubleshooting steps:
    1. Run the CS4 Clean Script for windows. The link for the same is :
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html. Download and run the
    CS4 clean script for windows.
2 .Run Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Product in a new user account.
Create a new user account that has the same permissions as the account
that you use when the problem occurs. If the problem doesn't recur, then
the original user account may be damaged. For instructions on creating a
new user account, see "To add a new user to the computer" in Windows
Help or contact your system administrator.
    3. Repair and defragment hard disks (Windows XP)
System errors can occur if hard disks contain damaged sectors or
fragmented files. Repair and defragment hard disks, either by using the
Error-checking tool and Disk Defragmenter utility included with Windows
or by using a third-party disk utility (for example, Symantec Norton
Utilities). You should run such utilities on each hard disk or
partition. More information about the Error-checking tool and Disk
Defragmenter appears below; for more information about a third-party
disk utility, refer to the documentation for the utility.
The Error-checking tool repairs bad sectors, lost allocation units and
file fragments, cross-linked files, and invalid file names. To access
the Error-checking tool, choose Start > My Computer, right-click the
desired hard disk, and choose Properties from the menu. In the Local
Disk Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab, and then click Check
    Now in the Error-checking area.
Note: To prevent Disk Defragmenter from moving files to bad sectors of a
disk, run the Error-checking tool before running Disk Defragmenter.
Disk Defragmenter rearranges the files and free space on your computer
so that files are stored in contiguous units and free space is
consolidated in one contiguous block. To access the Disk Defragmenter
utility, choose Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk
    Defragmenter.

  • How do I download iTunes to my dell pc?

I am trying to download iTunes onto my Dell home pc.  Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated!  I click on "Download iTunes" and pops up a box that asks me if i want to save the file.  I click save and immediately the site says, "thank you for downloading iTunes, blah blah blah"  I cannot find an icon or cannot see anything on my pc that pertains to iTunes whatsoever.  Please help!!

It seems that in some cases the scripts on Apple's site that are intended to query your system to offer the appropriate installer don't work as intended, taking you straight to the "Thank you for downloading" page.  Depending on the edition of Windows you are running, there are three variants of the most recent version of iTunes, with direct links to the installers as follows:
    iTunes 12.1.2.27 (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe
    iTunes 12.1.2.27  (64-bit) - iTunes6464Setup.exe
    iTunes 12.1.2.27 (64-bit "for older video cards") - itunes64setup.exe
The third of these - which is actually the 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer - should be used if you get a warning about video card incompatibility when you install the standard 64-bit version, but also may resolve issues with playback, QuickTime compatibility, and problems with some third-party applications (including Outlook).

  • My iTunes won't recognise my iPhone or iPod after latest update?

I downloaded the newest version of iTunes after being prompted to by a pop up, Since downloading and installing it my iPod 'Isn't recognised' by iTunes and has also wiped all my music off my iPod. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times but nothing is happening at all. Anyone have any advice at all because I'm at the end of my tether here trying to fix this

This possible resolution was posted in a previous thread on the same issue:
Make sure you are using an administrator account.  Any of them on your machine will do for the following
    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:
disconnect your USB device and close ITunes
    connect your USB device
    if ITunes loads, close it.
    b) File explorer:
Open File explorer and browse to
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
right click on the one ending in "INF"
    Select Install.  It's very quick.
    remove the USB device
    c) Restart the computer.
When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.
Alternative, you could try this alternative installer:
iTunes 12.1.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
which is actually the 32-bit iTunes application with a 64-bit installer - although it is primarily intended to address problems with playback, QuickTime compatibility, Outlook integration and issues with other third-party applications, it may be appropriate if your issue is related to an inconsistency between something within Windows and the "full" 64-bit version of iTunes.

  • IBook not connecting: Other computer has no problem

We connect to the net via an ethernet cable using PPOE. We are not usually on at the same time, so we just unplug the cable from whichever computer is using it and plug it in the other. Never had any problems swapping the cable between computers when one of us wanted to use the net.
Now my wife's iBook isn't connecting. My PowerBook has no problems, but when her iBook tries to connect, it says that authentication failed. When I ran diagnostics, it said that the cable was not plugged in or that it was not connected to a network.
I've tried: repair permissions, turning it off and back on again, typing in ID/password manually, using the assistant, deleting Quicktime and prefs (saw this on a post), unplugging iBook and taking out battery for half-hour (had to reset time and date).
I can share my connection via airport, but her Safari is SLooooooow and when I tried to do a software update on her iBook using this shared connection, it would not connect (lost network connection (-1005.) When I hit "Network Diagnostics", it all came back green: no problems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

ok, the quicktime compatibility update (took several tries and about two hours to download) seems to have done the trick.
    fun fun fun.
