Quicktime configuratoin error -3285

I have successfully setup a streaming server on OS X Server, and i can stream from several networkstations, including a Mac, Windows, a MacBook Pro...
But i have a MacBook and PB 12'' that can:
- access the network share and copy the file if they want to (or play it from there)
- enter the rtsp://... uri, and on server i see in the server admin interface that they get connected.
- but then they stay at "Quicktime is configuring"... and that ends with the -3285 error, that i can not find any information about.
Anyone an idea? I tried wireless/LAN, i compared the MacBook network/quicktime configs with the MacBookPro, and one plays, the other doesn't... and i have no clue why.
Tx
Frank Mantek

And, it does not really help. The perplexing thing is that i have 3 laptops to test with. A MacBookPro, a MacBook and the 12'' PB.
Only the MacBookPro is able to play, the other two machines are unable to get pass the "configuration" timeout. In all 3 cases, i see the connection made at the server, with no error. In all cases, i can see the filelength of the stream, but they are not able to play it.
This is completly undebuggable. Network configuration seems to be identical (same settings, same wireless network etc), all machines can play the copied file, all machines can access the share.
I enabled http streaming on the server just for kicks, with no difference in the result at all.
Any other suggestions? Right now, i am ready to give up and use another solution.

  • Quicktime Broadcaster Error -3285

Hey guys I need help. I have a Xserve and I woul like to use Quicktime Streaming, I set up the server but when go on Quicktime Broadcaster (laptop Macbook pro) and try to streaming over Automatic Unicast (announce) the software say to me ERROR 3285. Some one to know which is the best procedure.
oopps When I use the Quicktime broadcaster on Unicast and i send to server the SDP it work

I can stream all day long when I do pro webcasts on my different clients networks. But when I try to stream from home, I get Error -3285 every 10 minutes. Is it because of my Comcast cablemodem (aka Comcrash)? Does anyone know if Comcast has some sort of filter that cuts off people uploading (in my case streaming video into Secondlife)?

  • Can't broadcast - error -3285

I have a Darwin streaming server running under OSX 10.2. The server runs well and I'm really pleased with the quality of the H264 movies its serving.
The issue is that I cannot broadcast to it from a 10.4 powerbook.
I have broadcaster 1.5.1 and when I try to connect, I am asked to authenticate. I enter the ID and PW (if i get this wrong, it asks again) and then it comes back pretty quickly after saying Prerolling with Broadcaster Error -3285.
I can't find any reference to this error in the scant documentation I can find and Its really bugging me. Any ideas??

Not sure what the error code means. You may want to search apple's knowledge base.
However, in reply to your question, no you do not need a server to broadcast from one computer to another single computer.
QTSS or DSS is required when you need to broadcast to an audience / large number of clients.

  • How Can I Fix A QuickTime Codec Error?

How Can I Fix A QuickTime Codec Error?
I have several movies from 2008 that are labeled as .mov but I now get a QuickTime error saying "The document "XXXXXX" could not be opened. A required Codec isn't available."
These movies ran in QuickTime just fine until about a month ago.
All the folders in which these movies were stored in 4 folders in 2 folders in one folder. All folders at each level were encrypted with Stuffit Deluxe a version circa 2008 and decrypted with a newer Stuffit Deluxe 10.x. Other movies that are NOT .mov and in with the .mov movies still run.
If I click on the Thumbnail Preview "It" runs.
    How can I fix this?
TOP image is the Error message.
BOTTOM image is the Thumbnail Preview info.
I've checked out "Tell Me More" and have not found a solution.

How Can I Fix A QuickTime Codec Error?
The basic work flow is to determine which codecs were used to create the non-playing file and then check to see if these formats are supported by your current system codec component configuration.
If the files will open in one of the QT player app, the open the inspector window to see which codecs were used to create the original file as seen here...
or here in the "Format" entry...
Or, if you have QT 7 keyed for "Pro" use, you can open the "Properties" window to gain even more information as demonstrated here...
if you file will not open in either of the QT Player apps, then you can try opening the Finder "Get Info" window for the file,
use a third-party media player that will open the file, or
use a dedicated media information utility to learn this information....
Once you know what codecs were used to create the file, post back with this information so we can deterine if the file should be natively supported by your Mac OS X install, requires an Apple Pro editing codec normally installed by the editor app, or requires a third-party codec which the user must supply.
Your information does not indicate whether or not the files actually played on the current system or were transferred from a different system which was properly configured for playbac, whether or not you recently upgraded your operating system/modified your codec component configuration by adding or deleting any codecs, whether your compound "Stuffing" of the files created corruption, etc.
As to MOV files the selves, this extension just implies the data was placed in the QT generic file container and the actually data could be of any compression format thathat was compatible with the codec component configuration for the system on which the files were created and could include natively supported system codecs, pro editing codecs, and/or third-party proprietary or hybrid codecs. (I.e., this is why we may need more information regarding the individual non-playing files.)
If I click on the Thumbnail Preview "It" runs.
f you are referring to QuickLook (QL) then the technology is different than QuickTime (QT). In the former case, the system is playing representative data but not actually opening the file as QT does. Thus, there is always the possibility that the problem is in the file structure (atom) information. For instance, suppose someone merely changed the MOV file extension in the Finder rather than actually copying data to a real MOV file container. Then it is possible that the QT player app may be searching for a codec that is not supposed or expected to be supported in the MOV file container and, not finding it, issues the erroneous codec error message—especially since you did not inticate the source of the file you are trying to play or, in some cases, which QT player is now not playing the file.
In short, there are several possibilities here and not enough specific information.

  • Quicktime -50 Error (New Issue for Me)

    I have OS X 10.9 and FCP X 10.0.9
I'm doing a project with h.264 footage that is simple - a talking head in front of green screen, keyed, lower third in beginning, Photoshop PSD still background under. Audio is secondary WAV synced with FCP X's auto sync in Events feature.
I'm doing about 35 of these, each a separate project in FCP X. The events are on a 3TB internal hard drive on my Mac Pro that has about 2 TBs free.
What I'm experiencing is I do one of the projects, render it out using the Apple Devices 720p preset (fast encoding), and it works perfectly. I duplicate that project, change the edit point of the same exact video event, share it and about 90% in it stops and gives me the Quicktime -50 error.
If I duplicate that project (just the project file) and then share it, it renders fine. I delete the other project that gave me the error, and then I continue.
Some give me the error, some don't. It's all the same assets.
I haven't figured out why it gives me this error.
    Thanks!

  • FCPX Quicktime 50 Error

This just started within the last 30 days or so.
I am getting repeated Quicktime 50 errors when I try to export a project.
The footage is shot using an Atomos Ninja / Samuria using ProRes and edited in FCPX. I have done over 50 videos prior the exact same way and now I have this error which prevents me from exporting my work.
When it first started I completely changed hard drives doing a complete clean install of the system. (minimist install) I have completed two projects prior, now again, I am getting the error.
Everything is up to date, I have attempted to find any corrupt files, of which there are no corrupt files to found.  I threw out a quick teaser yesterday, flawless, today the completed project and won't export.  I get 19% and it errors.
I have read the posts from the past and nothing seems to work
I am pretty invested in FCPX and at this point it is becoming unuseable to me.

Have you tried everything that's on this list?
Go to Preferences and turn off Background Rendering.
Select your project in the library and in the File menu, click on Delete project Render Files; choose All when prompted. Select your event and do the same with the event Render files. In the project use the range tool to select a short section. Try to export that as a test. Don't render before you export.
If that doesn't work, copy the project and paste it into a fresh project. Try another export test.
If that doesn't work, create a new user account.

  • New update of Quicktime gets error for mp4 file

So I have a video file in .mp4 format and I all the other video player such as Mplayer extend and VLC all work with mp4 but quicktime however i like to watch all my .mp4 in Quicktime and i thought it was a file error however i believe it's a quicktime update error so all your mp4 file you had before probably gets an invalid sample description error..... so can some one help me out i still got to watch the file but i would like to use my Quicktime pro because i have it and if it just not doing anything i want to delete but I can't because it apart of mac's so i would like something done by the support team or something...........

From where did you get this "mp4" file? From what site, or what application generated it? Did it ever play in QuickTime Player? QuickTime can play standard MPEG-4 files, but there are other applications that generate non-standard files but still use the .mp4 extension (Microsoft, for once) and those QuickTime will not be able to play without third-party codecs such as Perian. If you had Perian before, you may need to update or reinstall.
BTW, it makes it a lot easier to read your posts if you use proper punctuation and capitalization. I don't mean to be giving English lessons here, but it helps if you make your posts as easy to read as possible.

  • HT5148 I am using the trial FCP 10.0.8 and I get a quicktime error when I export to any format I get a quicktime -50 error. Any idea why this could be happening?

Hi, i am using the 10.0.8 trial version and trying to export a simple project to any format and get the Quicktime -50 error. Has anyone seen this before?

Often Times the 50 error means corrupt media. What is your original media and did you optimize?
Try this. Turn off Background Rendering in Preferences. From the File menu, and with your project selected in the Library, Delete Project Render Files. Close FCP and empty the trash. Open FCP and your project, With the Range Tool, select a short section of your timeline. Without rendering, export that section as a Pro Res Master File. If that works, It's likely that your project should be OK to export.

  • Quicktime Unavailable Error

I was running iTunes 9 on my PC and it said there was a new version. So i went to the Apple website and downloaded the new iTunes 10 with Quicktime for Windows. I ran the setup file and it said my installation was finished. I tried to run iTunes after that but iTunes keeps showing the error "Quicktime Unavailable : Quicktime was not found. Quicktime is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again." I have tried this multiple times with the same result everytime. Please help! It was working perfectly before and now its not. Also whenever the error message showed up the first time I clicked on the Quicktime shortcut on my desktop and it ran fine.

I have same issue. Called support twice. Works after install once and then get same Quicktime Unavailable error again and again. Uninstalled and installed several times. If anyone knows a fix it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Tried to update Quicktime - reporting errors

Tried to update quicktime with itunes. Got a:
Error writing to file c:/program files/quicktime/qtsystems/quicktime.resources/quicktime.dll Verify that you have access to that directory
Had to abort. Tried to delete the file and reinstall quicktime. Would not let me delete. "Cannot delete Quicktime: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)"
Now I cannot install quicktime at all.
    Have Windows XP

Error writing to file c:/program files/quicktime/qtsystems/quicktime.resources/quicktime.dll Verify that you have access to that directory
Had to abort. Tried to delete the file and reinstall quicktime. Would not let me delete. "Cannot delete Quicktime: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)"
hmmmm. both sets of symptoms are consistent with disk damage or file damage on the C drive.
try running a chkdsk over your C, as per the following document:
How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? if so, does a QuickTime install go through afterwards?

  • Quicktime Export Errors

    Tiger 10.4.5
    Quicktime 7.0.4 Pro
    Mac G5 1.8 Dual
    3GB SDRAM
    MPEG2 QT Plugin
I'm having big problems Exporting ANY .mov>>>mp4 or .m4v. This has happened since the last big OS Update. I get -50 Quicktime fail errors consistantly. This is happening on both big exports and small exports. .
Any thoughts? I can't be the only one.

I tested this out with QT 7.04 on os 10.4.3
I exported a mov to mpeg 4 Improved and also mpeg4 Basic. Didn't see the -50 error. I check the exported files and they were okay.
The source movie was only a minute long. But you said yours dies on short and long exports. Sorry that's not much help.
Here are the error codes for QT.
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/QuickTime/APIREF/ErrorCodes.htm
-50 isn't listed. It could be an OS error.
    Hope you figure it out.

  • Quicktime Plugin Errors!

Anyone getting Quicktimes plugin errors at the Apple trailers page?

    yes...
it seems IE on a PC does not show any Quicktime movies anywhere. Never mind how long ago the quicktime file was encoded. Never mind what webpage it is on.
If you are on a PC you should be using Firefox anyway. This problem is only on Internet Explorer.
Strange that a thing like that didn't hit the mainstream news yet. I keep getting complaints from all over the world.

  • System32 and Quicktime.cpl error message

If I try to run Quicktime from control panel I get the error
An exception occurred trying to run C:\\Windows\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RUNDLL "C:\WINDOWS\System32\Quicktime.cpl", Quicktime
When I try to start off desktop, my harddrive just grinds a little, but Quicktime never starts up. Nor Picture viewer. Only thing that works is 'read me'. Running latest QT with XP, IE7, Nvidia Geforce, Dell 8200. I can view movie trailers and demo on Quicktime.com no problem.

i've got the same message when i try to go to the MIME settings in the browser tab. When i copy the file quicktime.cpl from C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem to C:\Windows\System32 i dont get the error. But when i try update my quicktime software i will get the error again.
I found this problem because i want to play a hd trailer on a website in firefox. But when i try it ask for plugins that i must install. When i click on that it cant be automatic installed, so i must to it manual. When im redirected to the apple page for manualy installing quicktime, i try to install it, but it seems that firefox dont see that quicktime is installed. I still get the message about plugins.
Maybe it has a conflict with the error about quicktime.cpl
btw, when i get the quicktime.cpl error, the quicktime windows close by itself.

  • QuickTime Error -3285

Ok, I created a large QuickTime stream. It was about 600MB, so I used QuickTime Pro to set the play range, and split it in half. I did this for the first have and did a Save As, then opened the original and did it for the 2nd half, and did a Save As again.
Both of these play fine locally.
I uploaded these to my RTSP server, and I've got code to embed into a webpage.
    Clip 1 streams perfectly.
Clip 2 gives me a -3285 error. I think it says Disconnected but the word is cut off.
I can't get it to open the URL. I have no firewalls or anything, and like I said clip 1 plays fine.
Any ideas? Does splitting not work on streaming MOVs? Do I have re-export it?
