QuickTime Control Panel causes BSOD

Installed the Quicktime 7.6.5. All went well (or so I thought). The next day on bootup, I received a notification that a driver condition caused a blue screen. O checking in the system logs, I found the actual problem was QuickTime control panel, so I removed the QuickTime from the system, after which I rebooted and removed all registry info and rebooted again. Problem solved here, but would like to see a rewrite of control panel and app support center to agree with the libraries that work with qt (quartz, etc) so the bluescreen will not occur.

O checking in the system logs, I found the actual problem was QuickTime control panel,
Interesting. When you used WinDbg (Windows debugging tools) to analyse your memory dump of the crash, did that confirm that the STOP error was caused by the QuickTime.cpl file?

  • Cant access quicktime control panel

I may be stupid or somethin, but I can't find the **** quicktime control panel to upgrade to the pro version.
I looked through my computer's control panel, there is only one user on it, but it looks like there is also an old administrator user there too.
There isn't anything about quicktime in my control panel, and I looked through the quicktime files in the c drive and didn't see anything about a control panel there either. Somebody got an idea? Because I just spent a worthless 39 dollars, and am seriously considering making the switch to linux.

Thanks. I do have a lot of appreciation for the macintosh-expecially since they came out with the os x. There's no doubt about it, it will be my next computer. If only I could get one at work.
But until I can afford that new computer, it's easy to convert my windows machine into that friendly linux that I'm getting used to.
There's no mistaking that Apple is the best in the business. But with windows, it's always one thing after another. I bought a new computer a year ago, the one I had lasted me 6 years, was expecting this one to do the same. But alas, a few viruses later it was toast. HP didn't give me the software to start over, so I had to do a system restore. Needless to say I don't have time to dig through my entire hard drive deleting the remains of the virus. But hey-no problem, because I have another one on there now.
And AIM is causing some wierd things to happen with the ui, among many other problems I constantly have.
So, instead of buying a new version of windows xp, which I can only re-install twice, I'm switching to my friendly linux. Then when I can, it's apple.
I really think the only reason people don't switch to the mac is because the first time you use it, it's different enough to be confusing or even frustrating. But after the first week, anybody should be using one with confidence. Some people might need some kind of tutorial or something.

  • How do I locate the quicktime control panel (to upgrade to quicktime pro) in Windows 7 home premium?

I just paid to upgrade QuickTime and received a registration code. Tho problem is there is no way to find the QuickTime control panel via the Windows 7 Home Premium control panel. How to I ovrcome this?
    p.s. I'm a newbe to QuickTime :-)

    Thanks Gary,
This does not help me... the instructions state:
    1. Locate the QuickTime 7 Control Panel
From the Windows Desktop, click on the Start menu, choose Settings, then choose Control Panel, then locate the QuickTime 7 Control Panel.
However, I cannot locate the QuickTime 7 Control Panel on the Windows 7 control panel -- it's not listed anywhere in the available options.

  • Exception Error from the Quicktime control panel/Update

When I press the Update button under the Update tab, I get the following error:
An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\Windows\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDD "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\QuickTime.cpl",QuickTime"
Quicktime seems to run correctly and says I have version 7.4.1 installed, so I'm not really worried as I wind up having to manually install any updates anyways. Also, I have automatic updates disabled, I have removed the autoupdater from my startup (slowed down my windows loading), and since that Bonjour service is annoying and nonessential, I have turned it off as well.
If any of these are the reason for the error, I'm willing to live with it. Just thought I'd let you know about the update error.

+When I press the Update button under the Update tab, I get the following error:+
+An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\Windows\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDD "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\QuickTime.cpl",QuickTime"+
Do you have an nVidia video card in that PC, Drakaran? That seem to be the common factor for people with the Update tab crash with 7.3.1, 7.4 and (presumably) 7.4.1 (and also the crash when they try using "Help > Update Existing Software" instead of using the Update tab in the control panel).
One way around it (for some folks) is to go to the Advanced tab in their QuickTime control panel, and check "Safe mode (GDI only)". With that setting in place, OK out of the control panel, restart QuickTime and try another check for updates.

  • Can't open quicktime control panel...among other issues w/ QuickTime/iTunes

I download itunes and then try to open it and before it opens and error occurs causing it to close. all other apps seem functional except quicktime. I can't open it under control panel (An exception occurred while trying to run “C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
“C:\WINDOWS\system32\QuickTime.cpl”, QuickTime”) and when I try to open it from the START menu I get "QuickTime failed to initialize. Error # - 2095". Any ideas on how to fix this so I can get QuickTime and iTunes working? Thanks for the help.

I have exactly the same problem!!
Been on this site since Dec 26th and still can't get ipod to work.
You would think Apple would have a help line!
If you solve yours please let me know how you did it, and I will do likewise.
    Thanks

Can anyone tell me if there is a way (besides opening each yahoo event and switching it on the iphone to an icloud calendar) to transfer my yahoo calendar to an icloud calendar??
There is not, Vista or Lion are the minimum requirements, use Yahoo's sync services instead.

  • Cannot find the QuickTime 7 Control Panel - settings

I cannot find the QuickTime 7 Control Panel. I have QT7 player on my laptop and am trying to enter registration code for QT Pro.  I'm running windows vista.

If you're currently displaying your Control Panels in Category View, you'd need to change your view to "Large icons" or "Small icons" to see the QuickTime control panel.
Alternatively, launch the QuickTime Player and go "Edit > Preferences > QuickTime Preferences" to bring up the control panel.

  • Can't find Quick time control panel to enter in Quick time PRO registration

I just bought Quicktime Pro 7. I installed Quicktime 7 and can't find the quick time 7 control panel. The only way to download quicktime Pro is if I can access the Qucktime control panel???? How do I locate the quicktime control panel if it is not actually located in MY Control panel?? I'm confused.

David's referring to the Preferences in QuickTime Player, just so it's clear.

  • Can't delete Itunes and Quicktime from Control Panel

Hi. I posted a few days ago re: when I tried to update Itunes, I received the 1608 error.
So, I have been trying to uninstall QT and Itunes via the Control Panel in Windows XP (Home) and when I click on both programs to remove, it blinks and then just stays there. They won't delete.
Any suggestions? I am about to the end of my rope! I have tried all the suggestions I can find here.
Do you think if I reinstalled everything on my computer, if that would work? I know it is extreme, but I can't get anything else to work. I am the authorized user in DCOM settings, I don't have Norton, I turned off the Virus protection in Yahoo, I deleted the items in temp directory, ect.
    Thanks in advance!!

    hi Ipisarki!
hmmmm. just checking. when you were trying to treat the 1608, did you try the InstallShield advice on the 1608?
(thinking here that whatever is causing the 1608 might be causing this problem ... so if we can fix the 1608s we might be able to get this problem fixed too.)
there's a link through to the InstallShield advice on the 1608 in this document:

  • Windows BUG: Can't change file types through control panel Quicktime settings

I am running the latest version of Quicktime on Viista Home Premium 64-bit.
When I into Control Panel -> View 32-bit Control Panel Items -> Quicktime -> Browser, and I click on "File Types" or "MIME Settings", I get a blank page that looks like this: http://oi40.tinypic.com/hvbbia.jpg, and Quicktime momentarily freezes.
I have no issue adjusting file type settings when bringing up Quicktime outside of control panel, or when using "Default Programs" within control panel, it's only when I do it within "View 32-bit Control Panel Items" that it does this.
This is a minor bug but still weird. Can anyone else verify the issue? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't help.

This could be caused by damaged QuickTime preference files (or possibly a permissions problem on the preferences files).
We can try rebuilding one set of your preference files to see if that helps with the greyed-out stuff.
First, quit QuickTime if you have it open.
Next, you'll need to make sure you are set up to view hidden files and folders in Vista (or 7).
    1. From the Start menu, click Open.
    2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
    5. Click OK.
Next, you'll remove the QuickTime preference folder (and contained file).
    6. In Computer, open Local Disk: C or whichever drive your documents are stored on.
    7. Open the Users folder.
    8. Open the folder with the name of the Windows 7 user account in which the QuickTime file types are "greyed out".
    9. Open the AppData folder.
    10. Open the Local folder.
    11. Open the Apple Computer folder.
    12. Drag the QuickTime folder out onto the Desktop.
Now you'll rebuild the preference folder and file.
    13. Launch QuickTime. Check your file types again.
Are they still greyed out, or can you change them now?

  • Installing Control Panel 2/3 causes problems in opening Excel sheets

After installing the control panel 3.0, I can't open Excel sheets properly anymore. A message says that the Excel sheet contains corrupted data and Excel can try to restore them. After confirming this, the excel sheet shows opened but all formating is gone.
I had this issue yet with Control Panel 2.0. After some research on the web I found out that the problem is caused by the CP for Windows. I then switched back to CP V 1.1.4 and the excel sheets opened properly again.
Thanks for any advise. I'm using Windows 7 and Excel/Outlook 2007.

You are downloading software illegally. ShapeShifter is shareware so unless you indicate that you paid for it I don't feel it is appropriate to post your issue in this forum setting.

  • Quicktime Applet does not appear in Control Panel

I installed Quicktime 7.2 on my hp laptop running Visa Ultimate. No Quicktime applet appears in my Control Panel, so can't enter key to upgrade to Quicktime Pro. What to do? I've uninstalled and reinstalled Quicktime, but still can find no place to enter Pro keys.

Found the missing applet in the vista control panel under the last icon "Additional Options" where I was given the choice of "View 32-bit control panel items." The Quicktime applet was there and allowed me to open it to enter the PRO key code.
